Board book asking about the meaning of Christmas. Is it the presents, Santa, cookies, caroling, mistletoe, or tree? All these things are fun, but the book mentions that Jesus’ birth is the best part about Christmas. It rhymes and has easy-to-understand language (even using casual terms like super-duper) but it wasn’t one that Elliot requested at all. We read it a few times and we were done. We just prefer more of a story format.
Colorful illustrations and rhyming text denote what Christmas really is about. Although the concept is simple, the message is extremely important and would make an excellent read aloud for young children amidst the hustle and bustle of this busy time of year.
The proportion of "Christmas holiday" to "reason for the season" pages is 9:4. It takes a while to get there, but this book makes its point succinctly and in language little ones will understand. And, to be fair, "yes," Christmas is about all those holiday things, too. Not a "no."
Is Christmas about cookies or presents? No, it’s about God sending his son, Jesus. This is a nice rhyming book that very simply explains the reason for the season.
This book begins lightly and introduces children to the "fun" and celebratory aspects of Christmas. The author's deeper purpose is to educate youngsters about the religious meaning behind Christmas, which is usually dismissed in our secular society. Adams joyfully teaches children about the gifts, foods and celebrations associated with Christmas, but doesn't fail to hone in on the religious importance behind this holiday.
My son is 2yo, and LOVES this book now that he is able to recognize Santa, snow, and candy canes, and now that we are starting to teach him a little bit about Jesus. He's always bring us this book to read, he loves hearing the rhyming words, and my husband and I love reading it to him. It's a really cute book!
My 16 month old daughter absolutely loves this book! The illustrations hold her attention and she loves pointing to certain things when we ask her where said object is! I love that it incorporates everything about Christmas!!! And is one book that I don't mind read over and over again!
This book does a great job of explaining how to balance cultural influences in Christmas with the true reason we celebrate Christmas. While the book is not perfect, it's close, and it's fun and engaging for young readers.
An awesome short board book for little children talking about all the fun things to do with Christmas but then drawing the focus back to the true meaning of Christmas: Jesus.
I really liked the author's other book What is Easter?. This book has a similar format. It describes traditional Christmas celebrations and then explains the true meaning.
