Chasing the Dragon

Rate this book
Once a lost boy that joined up with the hope of a better perspective, now he comes back a broken man. Levi Pierce had promised himself he’d find a way out of the mess his teenage choices had created, but even after returning, he finds himself forever haunted. Not only is he being forced to deal with the demons from his past, but also the injuries of his present. Memories plagued by screaming, guns, and sand.
War.
Yet, despite his attempts at denial, no one else seems too intent on leaving him to his own devices. It would appear that some of his old companions have dug their way in deeper than even he had, their lives dusted with the powder of California’s newest drug ring. His twin sister, Chris, is a local cop, one of the many that have been pushed aside by the FBI in their attempts to quell this problem before it has the chance to begin. But, unlike her colleagues, she feels no bitterness over the situation. Rather, because of her families’ close ties with the Assistant Director of the FBI, Chief Mit Knight, she feels quite inclined to get involved, even against his warnings otherwise. And Levi, who’s constantly being harassed at every angle, is unwittingly dragged into the investigation at the side of his somewhat psychotic sibling.
Not everyone supports the situation however. Reina Asahara, Mit’s daughter and close friend to the entire Pierce family, sees the prospect of Levi getting involved as only a potential danger to his delicate health. Having been charged with the task of looking out for him during the summer months, she often finds herself tagging along as he dives forward thoughtlessly. She’s determined to protect him however, even if it’s from himself, and will do anything to accomplish her goals.
Even if that means revealing her identity to the very people her father is trying to hunt down.
