After moving fifteen hundred miles away from the site of his biggest failures, Lux hopes he's left his track record for failure behind him. Foggy Basin is a fresh start, a place without constant reminders of everything he's ever gotten wrong. Moving so close to his best friend, Frida, gives him at least one person he can spend time with other the approaching holiday season, until she sends him on a little errand that changes his whole world.

River is a ray of sunshine from the tips of his curly pink hair to the soles of his pink Converse. He is an unapologetic blend of sassiness and snark and he's not about to tone it down for anyone, including the colorful new Daddy who has caught his eye. Lux might be an art teacher, but River has made an artform out of making sparks fly and with Christmas right around the corner, there's nothing he'd like more than to celebrate the season by rolling up a bit of Christmas Magic after a few nights of rolling in the sheets.

As the holiday approaches, these two colorful souls bond over cocoa, snickerdoodles and family drama, and all while making a whole slew of sparkling Christmas memories to rival the brightest lights on the tree.

A Daddy for Christmas 2 is a multi-author series. Holiday tales of lost boys in need of Daddy’s love and in some cases, a firm hand. Naughty or nice, it’s all in Santa’s hands now. So why not dive in and read each standalone and enjoy the holidays alongside our boys.

Layla Dorine

LAYLA DORINE lives among the sprawling prairies of Midwestern America, in a house with more cats than people. She loves hiking, fishing, swimming, martial arts, camping out, photography, cooking, and dabbling with several artistic mediums. In addition, she loves to travel and visit museums, historic, and haunted places.

Layla got hooked on writing as a child, starting with poetry and then branching out, and she hasn’t stopped writing since. Hard times, troubled times, the lives of her characters are never easy, but then what life is? The story is in the struggle, the journey, the triumphs and the falls. She writes about artists, musicians, loners, drifters, dreamers, hippies, bikers, truckers, hunters and all the other folks that she’s met and fallen in love with over the years. Sometimes she writes urban romance and sometimes its aliens crash landing near a roadside bar. When she isn’t writing, or wandering somewhere outdoors, she can often be found curled up with a good book and a kitty on her lap.

* ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (One star for River's hair, the other two for the story)

I started reading and stopped for a few days. I thought the beginning was pretty blah. I started reading again, got into the swing of things and it was good, but with several ups and downs.

A negative point for me here was that some characters in this book had already appeared in other books and even though the author has gone over some events in this one, it still gives you that feeling that you're missing something, besides the desire to look for the said books to find out what really happened. I don't like that, because when they say that a book is independent, at the very least what I expect is that it really is independent. For me, a book that has so much happening in another, that somehow influences it, is not independent. Information being left out. Ugh, that's a big no for me. BUT, I kept reading and it wasn't all bad, until...
The part where Lux reads a book to River. Did I need to dictate the story? No. I skipped it without remorse. The author could have used the chapter for River to tell Lux what really happened to them and her older brother, which wasn't fully explained here. It's probably in the book Twisted Chassis, which is the story of Maddox and Haven.

Neither of the two characters seem to participate in the Daddy/Little dynamic when they appear, the fact is only really addressed much later, which I found quite forced. After the first moment, it doesn't show any more of Lux's teaching routine, and of course it doesn't show him interacting with his best friend. The focus was on the two of them.

The chronology was a little confusing, at times it seemed like days, even weeks, had passed, but in fact it was from one day to the next.

So it wasn't a bad story, but it had its share of problems.

No angst.
No cheating. No suffering. No action or drama. No violence.
HEA. Daddy/Little.
Dual POV. Lux and River.
Small town that sometimes feels big.
Mention of parents' death (occurred off-page). Mention of relative's death (occurred off-page).
Mention of false accusation and conviction (occurred off-page).

ISO Actual Proofreading …

This is a cute, no-stakes, love at first sight kind of romance. The main characters are endearing and engaging. The story is sweet. There wasn’t as much defined Daddy/little content outside of one scene as other books I’ve read in this genre on no on-page discussion of what this dynamic means to each other.

However, the version of the book I read is in need of some serious proofreading. It’s too short of a book for 23 highlights of typos or sections where the point of view changes from 1st person to 3rd, from the perspective of one of the main characters to some unknown perspective. I’ve read other works by Dorine that would much more polished than this.

This would get a higher rating from me if the incongruities and typos were fixed.

Great Christmas Daddy story

I enjoyed this story hence the 4 * but, boy does it need editing! Wrong names, perspectives, incorrect or additional or missing words. Also, penguins are NOT from the North Pole 😁

So good!

It’s a great feeling when you meet someone you are so compatible with. Whether it’s a friend or something more it lets you know you are awesome the way you are. That’s what Lux and River discover here and it was a beautiful story.

Lux moves to Foggy Basin to become a middle school art teacher. Here he meets River, who runs the smoke shop in town, and is an artist of his own. Both being artists I sometimes had a hard time remembering which character was speaking. That being said, I loved the quiet moments they had drawing. I also appreciated the found family effect, with River's brother and sister accepting Lux into their family. River was so much in love with all things shiny and glittery, and a big fan of Christmas. It was a sweet story.
