Having watched his father lose everything to a woman, Italian billionaire Vincenzo Giansante has spurned romantic relationships. Naturally when one-night stand Siena claims she’s carrying his child, he insists on a paternity test. And when it’s positive his powerful, primal reaction shocks even himself. He demands marriage to secure his heir!
Independent Siena won’t be beholden to a man who accuses her of gold-digging! She declines his diamond. Yet she can’t forget their electrifying night. And the harder Vincenzo campaigns for Siena’s hand, the harder it is to resist a repeat encounter…
Julia lives in England with her family. Mills and Boon novels were Julia's first "grown up" books she read as a teenager ("Alongside Georgette Heyer and Daphne du Maurier."), and she's been reading them ever since.
Julia adores the English countryside ("And the Celtic countryside!"), in all its seasons, and is fascinated by all things historical, from castles to cottages. She also has a special love for the Mediterranean ("The most perfect landscape after England!") — she considers both are ideal settings for romance stories! In between writing she enjoys walking, gardening, needlework and baking "extremely gooey chocolate cakes" — and trying to stay fit!
What an utterly depressing book. This is not what I read Mills and Boon for. Cruelty, misery, miscommunication, stupidity and what seemed like chapters on a dangerous birth. Not for me.

I didn't like it. Their connection was not very strong.
They only ended up together because she was pregnant. He had zero intention of seeing her again, he turned off his emotions and moved on with his life. When she told him of her pregnancy he threw her out of his office, he never followed up or contacted her. He just assumed she was a liar. Only because her friend contacted him did he pursue finding out if the baby was his. FMC also did not want to contact him again (because of how he left her after sleeping with her and then how he threw her out of his office and basically called her a slut).
Then throughout the pregnancy they were so disconnected and never had any fun conversations, there was so much conflict and fighting. Both had so much resentment for each other and didn't really want the baby. Both regretted that they had slept with the other resulting in a baby.
I understand they both had tragic backgrounds* with pregnancy and children dying, but it was really sad how much the heroine was resentful of being pregnant and blaming it for ruining her dream of art school. She was so angry all the time, she was so mean to MMC all the time and tried so hard to push him out of her and their baby's life. I get he was not the nicest when she told him of pregnancy but he makes sense with how they met and his life experiences.
It was nice that at the end after almost losing son in childbirth she realized how much she actually loved her baby. However the love Confession between mmc and fmc was not super believable imo because it never felt like they had a true connection. P.

This was an awesome read. The h meets the H at a gala and there’s instant chemistry. They spent the night together and he just leaves the next morning. 6 weeks later she discovers that she is pregnant and tells him about it, he is rude, arrogant and very controlled. I love her because she doesn’t take his attitude, she is adamant about not seeing him, nor does she want anything from him. The plot and characters are very well written. The dialogue is emotional, they have trust issues but by the time the baby arrives, they realize what they feel is love. Great epilogue.
Julia James is back! She used to be one of my favorite authors but her latest books did not capture me. I am happy to say this book is a beautiful love story with an alpha but caring hero and a sweet loving heroine. Add a steamy encounter and an unexpected pregnancy and things got pretty interesting. I loved both hero and heroine. I loved how heroine resisted our strong but determined hero. Their chemistry was impossible to ignore! I felt like I was reading an old school Harlequin and this is the highest praise I can give to a HP!
I usually enjoy this author's work, but this was not it. As another reviewer mentioned, this book was kind of depressing. The characters kept dancing around each other, and the chapters where they were together just didn't feel romantic. I'm not sure how to articulate this book, but the swoons, the feels...they just weren't there this time around. Even the epilogue gave me nothing.
