Speak of the Devil

It was always you, babe.

A Slow Burn, Surprise Pregnancy, Second Chance, Rock Star, Standalone Romance from S.L. Scott, a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.

The hottest rock star in the world walking into my work wasn’t on my bingo card. Speak of the devil . . .

My soon-to-be ex-husband.

Shane Faris is taller than I remember. Scruffier. More attractive than ever and sporting a sinful smirk that tells me he hears “Yes” too much. Figures.

He offers me the divorce I want, but on one condition . . .

Two nights together, for old times' sake.

He’s partied his way through time zones, collecting ink on his skin to commemorate events I wasn’t a part of. While I struggled to earn my degrees, Shane chased fame and made memories without me.

It’s time to move on.

So why does his presence cause my heart to kick up a beat and my cheeks to blush when he sends me a wink? I can’t resist him. And he is my husband, after all, if only for a few more days.

When one night becomes two lines on a pregnancy test, we must decide whether this is a second chance worth taking together.

I just saw this on Facebook and the quote said....."it's always been you babe". Considering this is a second chance "romance" does that mean he was celibate during the separation? Or is this a case of the usual, him sticking his dick into every available hole but of course she's the only one he cared about 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Enquiring minds wanna know??????

ETA so it's confirmed he's a typical manwhoring rockstar ughhhh

I feel like there should be a ban on the "it's only been you " phrase in these types of situations

Couldn’t Finish. Did the Others read a different Book?

The book flies through a timeline and does not really allow you to get to know or care about the FMC or MMC. The book description was not even the same as the book. The banter was childish. The nursing career references made it clear that the author did not research the industry at all. For example, no one would call an NP “Nurse Cate” nor would she call herself that. An NP is a provider role not nurse role and she would be rounding like a doctor not a nurse. The whole plot is unbelievable and absurd. A famous millionaire would not know he was married or at least call a lawyer once he found out and then let it slide for almost a year! Too poorly written with shallow characters to even keep going and I really tried.

This was a great second chance romance with a twist on your usual fake marriage! I am a SUCKER for second chance and honestly when I started reading this, I couldn't figure out how that was going to play out, but when it did it was done perfectly for these characters. Normally when you read fake marriage, it's a situation where someone is asking for that to help them with something. This spin was that they were married all along but neither knew it from some technicality in the system. I liked the fact that they knew each other in high school too. This was a long spanning slow burn with the added second chance not once but twice!

Catalina AKA Cate AKA Cat to Shane is ready to move into her dream house. The only problem- apparently she is married to Shane Faris. Her high school crush and now world famous drummer for Faris Wheel. She doesn't know how this is possible let alone how to get in touch with him to get things straightened out. Somehow he ends up finding her and they have an instant connection. There are sparks and chemistry is flowing hard. But she knows his reputation, and that is now how she plays. Things seem different with them though. Things progress slowly and now she has found herself in a situationship with this not relationship man. Things seem to be going well until they aren't. He walks out the door and leaves her heart broken. Fast forward 10 months later and they are set to sign their divorce papers. But Shane has stipulations. He wants to get to spend time with Cat for 72 hours. Uninterrupted time. He wants to help her understand where he was and where he is now. The thing is that Cat never stopped caring for him and the time together only solidifies that for her. Now they are trying this thing for real. They are going the distance, but will they be able to make it through another unexpected curve ball? The universe seems to want them together as long as they don't get in their own way.

Shane is living the life. He is a world famous rockstar. He is living life. He has different women in all the cities ready to be with him at the drop of a hat. What he does not expect is a frantic phone call from his old high school crush wanting to meet. What he really doesn't expect is for her to let him know that per the state of CA they are married. Now they have to figure out how to undo it, but Shane finds himself not wanting to rush the process. He finds himself wanting to spend time with Cat, the girl who always intrigued him so. He finds himself on tour and not wanting to be with anyone but her. So they are in a sort of sitationship which he is somehow ok with. He is ready to see where this can go, but when asks too much of Cat without realizing it, everything implodes. Now 10 months later, he is ready to prove to her that he has changed. His life has not been the same without her in it. He is ready to commit and see this marriage through. He just has to convince her of all of this. Her willingness to accept him and his truths is such a surprise to him. But he feels it in his bones, that they are meant to be. But once he learns the truth about their marriage and something else Cat needs to tell him, will that change things? Never in his eyes.

I also felt like this was an opposites attract. Cat was all beige and planning while Shane is on tour constantly and living life on the edge. My heart broke for them when things ended so quickly but OMG how quickly Shane mended it for me. This man knew what to say and how to show his love for Cat. He wanted to go slow but literally couldn't because of how much he cared for her. It was cool to see how much he was able to get himself together. And as much as I might have held out a little longer, I appreciated that fact that Cat didn't have any ill will towards him. She still loved him and wanted to move forward not back.

I have enjoyed the two books I have read in this series. I really like Suzie's writing style and the way I have found myself invested in these characters and how they weave together. I definitely recommend this book and series if you haven't started it yet!

Thank you to Suzie for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review :) Can't wait to see whose story is next!

The perfect weekend read! One letter difference in their last names brought them together but fate and a glitch had other plans for them.

Shane is sweet, cocky and sexy AF😍. His world is about to be rocked when an old classmate reaches out to him. (This is where I fell in love with him….the arrogance 🤣)

Catalina, she’s fierce, kind , smart and independent….and single. She’s built her life on structure and balance so you can imagine her surprise when the closing on her house is delayed because of her husband’s financials…

This sends her on a goose chase to find her husband and get divorced so she can get her house. Only fate has other plans for these two.

I smiled while reading and swooned hardcore. I’m going to miss these two and the band!

Read it!

I absolutely loved Speak of the Devil by S.L. Scott; it is an incredible second chance at love story. S.L. Scott is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors to read and has once again shown that she is an amazing storyteller. I love that she continues to write the books that I love to read and is a must-read author for me. It was impossible to put Speak of the Devil down and I loved every moment on every page. Who does not love hot sexy men, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another? One of my favorite parts is that I love how the title of the book is incorporated into the love story. Speak of the Devil is the story of Catalina “Cate” Farin, gerontology nurse practitioner and her high school crush, Shane Faris, drummer for Faris Wheel. While trying to buy a house Cate discovers that she is married to Shane Faris, who she has not seen since a bonfire on the beach where they kissed after their high school graduation. She reaches out to Shane through his record company, I love the phone messages he received regarding Cate’s phone calls. I love the chemistry and the conversation between Shane and Cate which flows so easily, with innuendos and naughty banter, with dirty talking Shane constantly flirting with Cate causing her to blush. I love that Shane always calls her “Cat,” her high school nickname. A plot twist puts their relationship in jeopardy, and how their relationship changes when they resolve the plot twist. I love the tattoo that Shane gets and the significance of the tattoo. I love that Speak of the Devil follows Cate and Shane over the course of their relationship, the good and the bad, the happy and the sad, together or apart, and the challenges. I love that each shares secrets with one another that they never shared with anyone before. Cate shares secrets about her relationship with her parents. I loved the heart-to-heart conversation between Cate and Shane. I love how they finally admit their feelings for one another. I love the ending of their love story from Shane’s proposal to the location of the wedding. I love how they finally discovered how they accidentally got married. My favorite part of the story are the epilogues told from Cate and Shane’s perspectives. Cate’s epilogue takes place eighteen months after the end of the story, I love all the changes in their lives. I loved it. I really enjoy how the book is told from the first-person perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Speak of the Devil is second chance at love story and is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud. Speak of the Devil is filled with such moments, and with so much emotion. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a love story, S.L. Scott did not disappoint, especially with the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. I love how S.L. Scott always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong, sassy woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy man. Speak of the Devil is filled with poignant and bittersweet moments as well as all the plot twists and surprises. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Speak of the Devil the characters feel like family and friends. It felt like a family reunion, catching up with Nikki and Tulsa, and Laird and Poppy and their children. I enjoyed all the interactions between the Faris siblings and Shane, and Cate’s interactions with them, it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. I loved all the characters in Speak of the Devil, especially the residents who are Cate’s patients. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I thoroughly enjoyed Speak of the Devil. Highly recommend this incredible love story. Received an advanced copy from the author.

Shane Faris coming in HOT 🔥

💍 Rock Star
💍 Slow Burn
💍 He Falls First
💍 Second Chance
💍 Accidental Pregnancy

This series is just getting better and hotter with each instalment!
Based on this story, it's true what they say; "Drummers hit is harder"... wooo-heee!

This second-chance love story is so good. I could not put it down. I read it in one sitting!
Catalina (Cate/Cat) and Shane met in high school. She had a big crush on him, and he thought she was so incredible, he didn't deserve her. They shared one kiss, and then he left for the summer to pursue his music career. Upon his return, she had already left to go to college and pursue her nursing degree. Fast forward about 12 years... Cate is not able to move forward with the purchase of a new home due to an administrative delay: her husband's financials...! what?!?!?!?! this must be a mistake, she believes, as she's never been married. In her attempts to make the necessary corrections, she discovers that she is married to a Shane Faris, rock star drummer for the band Faris Wheel. How this is possible is beyond her, but she needs to fix this, or she loses the house.

And this is their story:

Shane is your stereotypical rock star: no cares or worries; different women in different cities, more money than he knows what to do with it. at least, that's what people think about him. but as he witnesses his band mates (who are also his family) in a new phase of their own lives (marriage, children, settling down) he wonders when will it be his time to have these things?

Cate is a geriatric nurse, who loves what she does and loves her patients. She lives a very ordinary life, with boundaries, order and appreciates predictability and developing plans.

They couldn't be more different. In exploring how is it possible that they are married, they find themselves jumping head first into relationship that finds them both falling in love. But it's not enough. They are both at the height of their respective careers and Shane, who's not used to fighting for the things he wants, walks away from Cate, living up to his admission " I don't do relationships". both are left heart broken. For ten months they don't see or hear from each other, till one day, Cate is called into a lawyers office for what she presumes to be the beginning of their divorce proceedings. Shane has a different plan in mind: he asks for time with her. just 3 days to prove to her that he is worthy of her and her love. He used these last ten months to work on himself and he wants to make this marriage work.

They are the cutest couple EVER!

"Shane has a way of making me feel like I matter to him"

They spend an incredible weekend together, learning more about each other and sharing their personal histories. They are honest and raw with each other. Cate stays true to herself and makes Shane work for it. He hurt her. He broke her heart and, although she knows deep down she never stopped loving him, she knows her worth and I love this about her!

Shane is so madly in love with Cate and is determined to show her how he loves her with a passion from so deep inside him. He wants to remind her every day how special and important she is to him.

I absolutely loved their story. I'm a sucker for the second chance trope and S.L.Scott does this so well.

I received a free ARC of this book and this review is my opinion.

I have read all the books in the Westcott Family series, I have loved Swear On My Life, Never Saw You Coming, and Never Have I Ever. The books that were not for me were Forgot To Say Goodbye and When I Had You.

Safe to say, Speak of the Devil is a win for me! I loved it! The tropes are slow burn, second chance (more like third chance!), accidental pregnancy, rock star romance, MC/FMC discover they are married! He falls first!

I was gripped from the very beginning. I didn't want it to end. Loved Shane Faris and Catalina Farin. Only one letter difference in their last names, it brought them together. But of course, fate and a glitch had other plans for them!

Shane is sweet, cocky and sexy AF! His world is about to be rocked when an old classmate (both crushing) reaches out to him. (This is where I fell in love with him....the arrogance! Haha). Catalina, she's fierce, kind , smart and independent and single. She's built her life on structure and balance. So you can imagine her surprise when the closing on her dream house is delayed because of her husband's financials.. Like WTF??? This sends her on a wild goose chase to find her husband and get divorced so she can get her house. Of course, fate has other plans for these two!

I smiled while reading and swooned hardcore. I'm going to miss these two and the band!

I highly recommend reading it!

After reading Never Have I Ever, I was really excited for Shane’s story and to meet the girl who was able to tame our playboy rockstar drummer. From the very beginning, the characters and their personalities sucked me in, and I truly felt like I was immersed in the story. The chemistry between these two is magical - with playful banter, a satisfying buildup and knock-your-socks-off spice.

Unfortunately, I was really thrown off by the pacing in the second half. The story felt choppy with plot holes that just didn’t make sense. The summary of this book doesn’t match up with the story very well. Most of what it describes doesn’t happen until the last 25% of the book so it feels like a giant spoiler. If I could give any advice, I’d say go into this one blind, and it’s a much more enjoyable experience.

Because I truly felt like the first half of the book was 5-star worthy… my overall rating for this one is 3.5 stars rounded up.

I received this digital ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Speak of the Devil: A Slow Burn Second Chance Rock Star Romance by S.L. Scott is one of those unforgettable stories that grabs you from the first page and refuses to let go. It’s a rare book that makes you want to linger in Cat and Shane’s world forever, savouring each moment of their journey, while at the same time pulling you to the finish line just so you can experience the full arc of their emotional story again and again. S.L. Scott never disappoints, and once more, she solidifies herself as one of my favourite romance authors with this beautifully intense second-chance romance.

Cat and Shane’s path to happily-ever-after is anything but straightforward, and that’s part of what makes their story so gripping. S.L. Scott gives us a heart-pounding first act packed with deep emotions that draw you in. Just when you settle into the warmth of their love story, Ms Scott takes you on a whirlwind turn, delivering an ending to the first act that leaves your heart racing. As the story unfolds into the second act, it’s pure swoon heaven. Shane, the drummer rock star, brings the swoon factor to a whole new level, and his charm and depth will leave any reader’s heart soaring.

And just when I thought my romantic heart couldn’t be any fuller, this author delivers not one but two epilogues that easily rank as the best of 2024. The way she wraps up this story gives it the perfect balance of satisfaction and sweetness, making Speak of the Devil a book to remember. For fans of second-chance romance and rock star romance, this one is unmissable.

“Do you live your life to the fullest?” “
“I live. I’ve had experiences most will never get, traveled the world, and met people from every walk of life.”
“Sounds like a dream, but you don’t.”
“I don’t what?”
“All those things are amazing, but they don’t sound like your dream.”

Loved, loved, loved this second chance romance.
The circumstances that brought these two back together, after missed opportunities in the past, truly had to be fate intervening. Shane and Cate (Cat)…Two people who couldn’t be more opposite, but soon discover that one persons strengths can help balance anothers weaknesses. I fell in love with both of them. I also love that characters from other S.L. Scott books make appearances. I love that she intertwines new characters and old together.

“ If you love her, tell her. If you want to spend the rest of your life with her make sure she feels it in her bones. Make sure she knows you will do anything to win her heart back.”

“ You could have just told me you were in love with her. And to think you could be here with her.” “ I am.” “ What are you saying Shane?” “ My North Star, my guide through hard times when we were apart, a reminder that lives on my skin that nothing is impossible if you love them enough. I needed something of you with me always.” ““This is for me?” “ I stayed away for me, but I came back for you.”

Fantastic!!

Could you imagine finding out you are married to your high school crush who now happens to be a world-famous rock star?! Neither Shane nor Cate knew that they were married but now knowing it now starts a journey for this couple that made my heart melt. The surprises and chemistry were fantastic. I just knew things would take another turn when Shane asks for just one night together before they go their separate ways. Is Cate willing to give Shane another chance?

For me this was an exceptional book and I didn’t want it to end. This is my first time reading this author and after reading this book I have to go back and read her other books as well. I’m hooked.

Speak of the Devil was such a fun, angsty read! I loved the ease and overall friendship that Cate and Shane had. I love that Cate didn’t fall all over Shane and gave him a hard time when he needed a reality check.

These two had some twists and turns along the way but the way Shane stepped up and was there for Cate by her side in the end….has my heart!!!

I adore this book so much and loved every word. Emotions all over the place but that’s exactly what I love and I couldn’t read this book fast enough!

Hmm this one was hard for me get into. i was really excited about this book too and maybe i over hyped the book in my head? I just felt like the flow of the book was very choppy and scenes often jumped all over the place. There was also a minor fact thing about twins that I couldn’t get over, but I don’t want to dwell on it.

Other than that, the story line was still super fun and unique. I loved Cate’s character and her personality, although I wish she stuck it to her boss 😂. I also wanted a better explanation from Shane though for the WHYYYY…..why 10 months? I wasn’t satisfied with his explanation…..but no spoilers! So read it to find out what I’m talking about!!!

Cate’s in the process of buying a house, however her plans are thwarted when she’s asked for her husband’s financials before the sale can be completed. The thing is Cate doesn’t actually have a husband, in fact she’s never been married but records state that she is. Her supposed husband is none other than Shane Faris the playboy rockstar who she happened to crush on when they were in high school together. Determined to sort the situation she seeks out Shane and breaks the news to him of their apparent nuptials. Shane is surprised to discover that “Cat” from high school has been trying to contact him after all these years and is curious as to why. Is it because he’s famous or does she have another agenda? The last thing he expected was to discover that they are apparently married. Determined to get to the bottom of the situation they’ve found themselves in, Cate and Shane pair up. He cannot stop thinking about Cate now that they’re in each another’s lives again, the feeling’s mutual as she can’t stop thinking about him too. The more time they spend in one another’s company the more their feelings towards each other deepen, and they decide to give a proper relationship a go. However things blow up between the pair before they’ve even really had a chance to begin, and they go their separate ways. They do reunite 10 months later when they’re on verge of finalising their divorce. But Shane wants another chance, he asks Cate to give him 48hrs of her time in order to prove to her how sorry he is and how much he’s changed. He walked away leaving Cate broken hearted once before, is she willing to put her heart on the line once again? One things for sure you’re going to want to read Speak of the Devil in order to find out.

This was another fantastic book by S. L. Scott. It was interesting uncovering the backstory of how the pair found themselves to be married. I loved the characters, both main and secondary. There was drama, a little suspense and a whole lot of chemistry, oh and there’s a plot twist too. A great storyline that will have you hooked from beginning to end.

Cate Farin is a successful, independent woman, and she's finally in a position to purchase her first house. Imagine the excitement she's feeling! That is, until the sale can’t be completed without her husband's financials. *Cue record scratch* Cate isn’t married, has never married, and yet the State of California shows she's married to Shane Faris, the drummer for the world-famous band, Faris Wheel.

What follows is a big, tangled mess that takes a lot of time and effort to untangle. Fortunately, Shane's not the type to ignore a damsel in distress, except he figures Cate is just another groupie who wants to knock boots. As you can imagine, that assumption goes over like a lead balloon with Cate.

As they spend time together and get to know each other while trying to unravel the mystery of their marriage, Cate sees beneath Shane's surface bravado and cocky arrogance, but she doesn’t trust him. He's going to have to pull out all the stops if he's going to win the wife he never knew he had.

Whether it's talent, training, hard work, or great editing, some authors just have that “it" factor, and Scott has it in spades. Her romances make me laugh out loud one minute and then masterfully manipulate my heartstrings the next, making for an exhilarating emotional ride. Forget the Farris wheel, this one is a roller coaster!

One of the things that really brings a story alive for me is the peripheral characters, and the people at the retirement center where Cate works are some of my favorites! This gifted storyteller has a way of including small details that leave a lasting impression and make me love her work even more. Charming, witty, steamy, and bursting with heart, this phenomenal story is sure to be a favorite of any romance lover.

Laird Faris and Catalina Farin were in high school together, 12-13 years ago. Cate is a nurse with a Masters degree in Gerontology. I thought maybe more would be mentioned about her boss since he's obviously a tool of the highest order, but he barely got mentioned in passing.

In the process of trying to buy her first home, Cate finds out that she's apparently married to Rock Star drummer Shane Faris. It's a mystery for a while how that happened, since neither she nor Shane had any sort of relationship other than a bonfire kiss the night they graduated, before he and his band left town and made it big.

They both had feelings for the other when they were younger, but they were both too nervous to say or do anything about it. Now they have a second chance - but his fame makes the possibility of a relationship more than complicated. I guess this could even be considered a third chance romance, since things go from wow to worse before they come back to wow again.

Nice and steamy, just the way I like 'em. I can't wait for 2025 to roll around so I can re-read all my favorite S.L. Scott books (that's all of them, just fyi)

I started reading  Speak of the Devil by SL Scott when I was in a reading funk.  I was worried I might be too distracted to enjoy it fully. But I couldn’t have been more wrong! This second-chance rock star romance was exactly what I needed—a genuinely unputdownable escape that captivated me from the first page to the last. Cate and Shane stole my heart, and I was so invested in their relationship. Speak of the Devil pulled on my heartstrings and didn't let go. The two epilogues deserve a huge chef’s kiss! Bravo SL Scott! One-click worthy.

Sooo Good!

This is one of the best books that I have read in a while. I have been struggling to find a book lately that hooks me and keeps me hooked.

Shane and Cate - their story did that.

Was their journey to happiness easy? No
Does their relationship face challenges? You know so
Do they get their HEA? Well, you definitely need to read this book to find out!

Great story and I definitely recommend it!

I love Rock Star romances!!! This one had a lot of my favorite tropes rolled into one. I loved that they knew each other before he became famous. I loved why she had to get in touch with him. Bless her heart, Roberta, she just refused to make it easy on them. This one had me surprised at every turn. I do believe Shane’s was my favorite story… but don’t tell Tulsa. 😉 This book was unique. Shane and Cate surprised each other, and then they were baby surprised. I loved it!

One of my favorite tropes in romance novels is rockstar romance. I will eagerly read any rockstar romance book by any author who writes this trope. This includes S.L. Scott, a writer known for her emotionally driven rockstar novels that I can't get enough of, especially since I discovered her books on Kindle Unlimited this year. I loved everything about her latest rockstar romance story, Speak of the Devil, and I found it hard to put down. I was determined to dive into Cat/Cate and Shane's story, especially since it incorporated another favorite trope of mine: Second Chance Romance.

The first chapter alone had me hooked from the start, where I had a hard time doing anything else with my life. The FMC, Catalina (Cat/Cate) Farin, finds herself dealing with an administrative delay in purchasing her first home when she finds out that she is supposedly married. Not only that, but married to a famous rockstar who happens to be her high school crush from twelve years ago. Now, she has to track down Shane Faris and either get an annulment or divorce so she can hopefully own her first home. However, when she reconnects with Shane, she realizes her feelings from years ago come back in full force. It also doesn't help when Shane has equal feelings for her and then they find themselves in a predicament if they truly want a divorce or not.

I loved how Cat (or Cate) and Shane reconnected after being apart for so many years. Shane, a well-known player in his band, undergoes a complete transformation after meeting Cate again. He’s not typically a relationship guy, but reconnecting with Cate inspires him to change. You can tell that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to prove that he has changed for her. I don't care how many times I read this type of storyline; I enjoy every moment of it.

I understood Cate's hesitation about opening her heart to Shane, given his reputation as a player and his fame. She has her career to consider and can't just drop everything to be with him, especially since she is very focused on buying the house she wants. Cate's independence reminded me of myself, which is why I connected with her character right away. She felt relatable, but I found myself secretly rooting for her to end up with Shane throughout the story.

Even though Shane did something that almost made me dislike him, he ultimately redeemed himself in the end. He showed just how much he was willing to be with Cate, and I couldn't help but love him even more. Seriously, Catalina is one lucky girl to be with someone like Shane, and Shane is fortunate to have her.

Don't hesitate to read this book by S.L. Scott; it is truly unforgettable. I'm still thinking about it even after finishing it, which is why I’m giving it five stars. I wish I could give it more! The story, the main characters, and even the secondary characters all captured my heart. I can't wait to read more of S.L. Scott's work, and I’m determined to explore her entire backlist. I’m grateful every day to have found her books on Kindle Unlimited because she has become one of my favorite authors and an auto-buy for me. I read her books on KU while also purchasing physical copies as trophies for my bookshelves. I don’t care how many books I already own; S.L. Scott’s books deserve a space on my shelves.

Single/Dual POV: Dual POV.

Standalone or Part of Series: It's an interconnected standalone in the Faris Family series.

Would I recommend this book? I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy Slow Burn, Second Chance romance stories, especially with a rockstar theme. From the very beginning, you'll find yourself rooting for Catalina and Shane to be together forever once you dive into the story.

Speak of The Devil by S. L. Scott delivers!

I was so happy to read a book that had an elapsed timeline. I think this was the perfect book for Shane and Cat. Cat has loved Shane since she was 18 and had a raging crush on him. Shane leaves their High School behind to become a Grammy award winning drummer in the band Faris Wheel. When Cat tries to buy her first home, imagine her surprise to find out that she is married to Shane! On a mission to correct this mistake so she doesn’t lose the house, she reaches out to him.

Eventually, they set out together to find out how this happened and get a divorce as soon as possible, or do they? Shane realizes that he harbors feelings for Cat, but he is not a relationship guy. I enjoyed that Scott shows the growth of these characters over time. Shane needed to realize that it is not all about him and getting his immediate needs met.

The way Scott wrote about when Shane chooses to walk away, and that significant time passes before there is any communication is absolute perfection. This really showed the growth that needed to happen. There is a realism to this part of the story that makes this so believable. My heart broke for both of them.

“Love runs deep like a river through your veins. No matter how long you’re apart, the other person is always with you.”

Considering another person and what makes them happy, how it can fit into your world and make each other grow is true love. When he discovers the mistakes he made, it might be too late, but Shane has a trick up his sleeve that you hope works.
There are so many beautiful moments of raw vulnerability between these two, yet their hearts are guarded.

“She wasn’t before you, Cat. She is you. You’re the one.”

I found myself both alternately on the edge of my seat, laughing at the banter and cringing at the struggles they face to find each other. The tattoo scene was the best thing ever written, and I loved how personal the discovery and explanation was. Only Scott can give us these heartfelt moments in this way!

“I was holding her, fascinated by the gentle slope of her neck, the hair that tumbled over it, and her back bare calling to me. I’ve kissed her there, right at the curve, that freckle my North Star in the middle of the night.”

Every girl wants to be someone’s North Star and Scott gives us this beautiful moment. I loved how real Shane was with his emotions throughout the book.

”I want to hold your hand because its the familiar, the only olive branch I have to give while driving. I just thought if we touched, we had that connection, that we could build from there this time.”

I know this couple will live rent free for a while in my head and I can’t stop thinking about their hard fought and wonderful love story with the perfect HEA and epilogue that will make you swoon and smile. Don’t hesitate to grab this one. In the words of Maggie…”it’s not about one kiss. It’s about a lifetime, and eternity together, creating a family, and loving each other through the years.”
Thank you Scott for gifting us the love story of Shane and Cat.

Rockstar Romance/Second Chance Romances/Unexpected Pregnancy tropes aren’t my usual go to reads. I have to be in the mood. And Rockstar Romances are a relatively new trope to me. But I love S.L. Scott’s work, and I’d read the first book in this series (Never Have I Ever) which I loved. Catalina is a nurse, who loves her job and patients. She’s worked hard to get there, and when an opportunity to buy her own home arises, Cate jumps at the chance. Only problem…. Her husband!!! Shane is a drummer in a rock band. He’s loving life and all the perks that come with it. Receiving a few messages from a name he hasn’t thought of in a while piques his interest, so he heads out to find out more….. Cate and Shane have no idea how they are actually married, they connected in high school and had one conversation and a kiss. So both are stunned to find out they are legally married! Who did this? And why? Cate is going to lose her dream home if this doesn’t get sorted. And if the paparazzi find out about Shane and Cate, it’s going to be a media nightmare!! (Shane doesn’t want that for Cate.) Just when you think it’s all going to be ok, Shane up and leaves…. 🤔 and at that point I just wanted to put the story down! I thought there was a connection, I’ll admit I was a little disappointed! But in the meantime, Shane has been thinking, he’s ready for commitment, he’s ready to claim Cate as his. Only one problem, the way he left, he doesn’t think she will give him another chance! It’s time to up his game if he wants the girl. So how do they proceed? Well….. Shane proposes a weekend together, then the divorce will be settled and they will be free to go their own ways! Then the unthinkable happens…. An unplanned pregnancy!! Shane and Cate want kids, but just not yet! Their relationship is being taken slowly, and a child might not be the right thing right this minute. So what happens next? I did like the two epilogues. They made me smile. And a great way to end a really good book. The banter between these two had me chuckling, and the chemistry had me reaching for 🧊 😉 it was definitely a he falls first, I feel. And Shane does his best to get Cate to feel the same way. Will Shane and Cate get their once in a lifetime love? Or will it just be a fun weekend memory? Can they walk away even though it was a fake marriage? Lots of emotions, medium angst, and me thinking Cate really shouldn’t have given Shane such an easy pass…. maybe a little more grovelling 😉 I didn’t want to give too much away, as I hate reading reviews with huge spoilers. But I will recommend this book if you love the author, and like your romance with a slow burn, but lots of great moments. And I can’t wait to read the next book in the series (and maybe get to see more of Cate/Shane.) 🦋

Book Review: “Speak of the Devil” by S. L. Scott

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

“Speak of the Devil” is a wild ride of emotions! It’s a story about love lost and found, wrapped up in a mix of romance, angst, and rock ’n’ roll. Buckle up, because it’s a rollercoaster of feelings!

The story starts with a bang! The hottest rock star in the world, Shane Faris, walks into his estranged wife’s workplace. Their relationship is on the rocks, their marriage is about to end, but Shane makes a deal—one last weekend together before they sign the divorce papers. What starts as a trip down memory lane turns into a life-changing twist when an accidental pregnancy forces them to face their past and think about their future.

Shane is the brooding rock star with the devilish smirk and rebellious tattoos. But there’s more to him than that! Beneath the rock star persona is a man who’s searching for redemption and connection. His vulnerability shows through his confident exterior, making him a complex and endearing character.

Cate is relatable, strong, and determined to move on with her life after years of being in Shane’s shadow. Her journey from heartbreak to self-discovery and finally opening her heart again is the heart of the story.

The tension between the characters is thick, fueled by unresolved feelings and the weight of their shared history. The slow burn makes every moment of connection feel earned and super satisfying.

Shane’s determination to win back his wife’s heart adds a touch of tenderness. It’s clear he’s never stopped loving her and watching him fight for their future is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

The author paints a vivid picture that draws you into the characters’ world. The dialogue is tense and full of longing, and the intimate moments are beautifully written, making you feel both passionate and sad.

“Speak of the Devil” is a deep dive into love, loss, and the chance to make things right. It’s more than just a rock star romance; it’s a story about two people finding themselves and each other amidst the chaos of fame and regret. The characters are flawed but super relatable, and their journey will keep you up late into the night. Whether you’re a fan of slow-burn romance, second chances, or rock star stories, this book will touch your heart.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves emotional, character-driven romances with a bit of rock ’n’ roll magic.

After reading the blurb for Speak of the Devil, I was expecting something along the lines of teenage sweethearts, married young before he leaves her for fame and stardom, I didn’t expect neither the hero or heroine not knowing they’d somehow tied the proverbial knot, something the heroine Cate only found out when she tried to buy a house. In the meantime, Shane the hero has found fame as one of the hottest rock stars in the world, but he still remembers Cate from when they were at high school together. In the process of working out just what has happened things between them start to heat up but it wasn’t meant to be and I got the feeling Shane got cold feet at the thought of commitment but months later they meet up again he offers her the divorce she wants but on condition that she spends a couple of days with him.

I loved Shane, I mean a bad boy, dirty talking rocker with a smirk, I was instantly picturing someone you can’t decide whether you want to slap or jump. In comparison Cate was a good girl even down to the kind of nursing she did, geriatrics was probably the least glamorous field she could’ve gone into. They were complete opposites as he lived an extraordinary life, touring and partying across the globe in comparison to her ordinary, more mundane one but there was no doubting the chemistry between with lots of flirting and innuendos from Shane but Cate was more distrusting but then things were taken out of their control with a surprise of the nine month variety and she had to decide if he was worth taking a chance on. Their overall story was engaging with a lot of emotional moments but interspersed with some fun and levity to lighten the mood and stop things becoming too heavy to and I felt myself sucked right in and becoming invested in seeing them reach a happy ending. There was a great cast of secondary characters who as it turns out may be familiar to regular readers of this author, this was my first read from S.L. Scott and although this book can be read as a standalone, it is part of a series.
