The world is guarded by dragons. Lurking in the shadows and keeping out of sight, they keep evil at bay.

This book was rather meh as far as I am concerned.
I jumped on it because the story, as it is described by the book blurb, is a type of story that I like and I have to admit that the story does indeed have some promise.
The reason it did not work very well for me is that the dragons in this book are essentially weak ass wimps hiding in some dragon city trembling in fear. The only time they show some (false) courage is when they gang up on the newcomer (Scarlet) like some dumbass school bullies.
This really dragged down the book for me.
The only things this book has going for it, from my point of view of course, is that there are a fair amount of hints that Scarlet is more than what appears at first glance and the hope that she will be the one that teaches the rest of these wussie dragons (with a few exceptions) to behave like actual dragons.
I’m not sure that is enough for me to have a go at the second book in the series though. I guess we’ll have to see about that.

Quick read
Finding out after his disappearance that her old neighbour is a dragon, and so is she, gives Scarlet more questions than answers. While she obediently follows the clues Anthony left her, and his ex-lover Ben, she isn't persistent on getting these questions answered.
As a reader with same questions it made me inpatient, drew me in, and kept my attention. A first book of a series does that while sets up the interest for the next ones so I can't complain. I'll continue with the next book.

This is a decent plot driven story. The world building is alright. The most interesting part is its potential of where the story will lead.
Most of the book is looking for a missing dragon. They adore him and are very concerned. He sounds like a really awesome guy. But we never meet him, it's disappointing.
One interesting quality is the fact that the book is full of dragons, but they don't come across as overpowered. When Ben was jumping through the trees, he came across as capable rather than godly. Which is very refreshing.
The mc doesn't assume people position and power but observes and is flexible to reevaluate when presented with new information.
Overall, it's a good book, with the rest of the series still a mystery that I wish to explore.

Scarlet found out the hard way she was a dragon! She was being hunted and trapped when she changed into a clumsy red dragon that didn’t know what to do after she went into the air. After her crash the mentor, Ben, her care taker had told her to trust showed up and took her under his guidance. Scarlet finds a whole new world exists and in the trying to find her longtime guide she has many lessons to learn and enemies to fight. Great read

Nice read and a new adventure
When Scarlet discovers her secret the adventure begins. With her new found friend she sets out discover where her mentor and friend has disappeared to. Lots of new discoveries and a new life begins. Looking forward to next book.

This was a really fun book
Loved the main character and the adventures she gets into. There is a bit of dragon magic, lots of action, and interesting characters throughout. I recommend this book and hope the rest of the future series is as good.

It hooked me!
The beginning was too awkward and needs a bit more editing. The story finally engaged mep and completely pulled me in. I am not fond of harsh reality in my escapism, but I have hopes for more humor and less angst or this story just won't be for me.

This book was rather dragged out somewhat. How many times can you read "however" in one book? Most of the time, it was in the wrong context. Also, I think you should get a better proofreader (if you even have one). I hope the other books in this collection are better

January 26, 2025Started reading the writing is bad in my opinion not like it doesn’t make sense but it’s just not entertaining. I think I would like the story if I kept on reading but I’m not that desperate for a new book yet, so I’m gonna try some other ones and I might come back to this one.

This book is so well written, it is almost like sitting in the theater watching a fantastic movie! Strongly looking forward to the next book in the series.

DNF - quit at 28%
This had potential, but the plot just moved so slowly, with a lot of repetitiveness, that I lost interest in the story. I put it down & couldn’t bring myself to pick it back up. Others may enjoy this, but I just didn’t.
At my age (61), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
