If you like ‘Stranger Things’ and Stephen King, prepare to unearth the horrors of ‘The Covenant’
An ancient evil stalks the misty streets of Capetown, Maine. Everyone in the quiet seaside community knows it, but only journalist Kenzie Walsh and her friends are willing to do something about it. When a mysterious, arcane chalice is unearthed in a local cave, Kenzie discovers its ties to a cursed, shadow-haunted city thought to only exist in legend, and its role in a terrifying end-times prophecy. With the prophecy now set in motion, and unspeakable horrors soon to be unleashed, Kenzie and her friends must race against time and impossible odds to stop the gravest threat humanity has faced.
From the best-selling author of ‘The Necromancer.’ If you like the atmospheric horror of Stephen King and the camaraderie of ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘It,’ join Kenzie and her friends on this thrilling adventure where the future of humanity hangs in the balance.
Hey All. I’ve revised my bio yet again so it doesn’t sound like I’m describing myself in third person. I’m an entertainment attorney (I draft contracts for movies), writer, filmmaker, and former Marine. I write scary books and laugh-out-loud spice-free rom-coms.
Kenzie Walsh wants to dig deep into the history of Capetown Maine as something happened in the past with her brother and she wants to find out what is haunting her town. Little does she know that there is an ancient evil that is stirring and when an artifact is unearthed in a cave is when things start to move rapidly that could bring the fires from hell knocking on her door!
That is about all I can hand out with a small backstory so if you are intrigued then go read this book!
Thoughts:
This story starts off with some suspense and creepy terror! As I made my way through the story I found myself becoming more creeped out by what was taking place within the book. Lots of spooky moments as I careened along at a fast rate of speed through the story.
Once again this author has taken me on a spooky ride into the terror zone and kept me pinned to my seat with nightmare fuel! Giving this book five "Nightmare Terror" stars!
This began very strong, with great emphasis on the rudiments of the story, a cinematic feel throughout. It had such a promising premise and a nice build up. But after the middle it simply flops. Too many details, the cast keeps getting larger, the schemes just too intricate for one read. By the time I reached the end, I had lost interest.

Kenzie and her brother Chad don't have the best life, they both live with foster parents who are abusive and next to useless. They run away but then Chad is killed by something supernatural. Kenzie is determined not to let his death be in vain and starts writing a newsletter for the town. Trying to make them believe and shed light on what is happening. For something is for sure closing in on their home, something ancient, evil and vile is rising and it's not going to stop. There will be death and blood for Acheron is set to be the epicentre of ten reteun of something malignant the world hasn't seen. And this is just the start. This was just as fantastic as always, I would go as far as to say his writing rivals that of huge name, top writers. Much rather dig into one of his horror novels as they are always a good read than a bestseller name. Can't wait for the next installment starting Kenzie.
The plot and characters in this book are fantastic! This authors writing style is clear and creates beautiful imagery in your head. The environment created is reticent of a Stephen King book which is not easy to accomplish. This author is very talented at building out a world. Beware, this story is not for the faint hearted and will keep you up at night if you are sensitive to horror stories. There are some cliche one liners and situations that stick out to me which is why it lost a star, but I read A LOT so what sticks out to me as a cliche may not bother you.
I would say this story is appropriate for ages 15+ (as long as the teen is okay with horror novels/movies). There are a few swear words but not overly used/used where it is unnecessary. Obviously every parent is different with what they would allow their child to consume but this is my opinion.

Absolutely outstanding, the pacing is great. The story and the world building had me engaged. I am gutted that the sequel is not out yet because the ending was brilliant.
I was fortunate to come across the author's work months ago, witnessing a talented voice of horror. And this is not the horror from ghosts or spirits to scare kids. This is the horror that can obsess one's mind long after the books are finished.
The Covenant revolved around a girl named Kenzie whose ability to see things that others could not put her in an epic journey. There were many characters in the story from God's disciples to Devil's right hands, and many more perspectives that interwove and told a compelling story.
However, by that same reasoning, despite the seamless narration, the story just dragged on until I realised in the last few pages that there was no way the book would finish this story. I was right: we were left at a cliffhanger and the story would definitely require a sequel to finish it, confirming by the author's information at the end of the book.
I felt a bit disappointed because the gruesomeness was nowhere near the previous excellent works such as "The Necromancer" and the adventure was like in "Stranger Things" from Netflix. I would sincerely suggest the authors to make the sequel true to his talent of painting vivid horror and visceral terror in his stories, meaning that please do not make the sequel a teen book. Otherwise, it would be an abominable waste.
Further, since this book already explained a lot of things (like, literally A LOT thanks to the extended, and sometimes even repetitive, descriptions), the sequel should refrain from retelling the aforementioned details in this book. Instead, the sequel should, by itself, an epic battle between light and darkness, between God's emissaries and Devil's minions. Among abject despair lies subtle hope. My expectations for the sequel are beyond any imagination.
I counted the number of years among the three demonic books: Hell (2018), Necromancer (2021), and The Covenant (2024). It was three years that the author produced another story. I sincerely request that please do not let the readers wait for another three years to read the sequel to The Covenant. There is no greater torture than let hope turn into despair of waiting for the ultimate ending of things.
For the current book, since it is clearly just a "beginning", any comments on the characters or plots seem "immature" to me because there are so many places and potential for those characters to be exploited to the fullest in the sequel. Yet, one thing is constant: the story telling talent of the author surpassed most horror authors in this epic type of adventure.
I gave the score of 3.75 simply because many details were just too lengthy in that if readers and the author were aware that this book was just a prequel, then the details needed to be compelling dark and succinctly told. Otherwise, the more details were put to increase the number of pages, the more "convenient" events in the book seemed (e.g., details were there to simply rationalise the actions of the characters), leading to an abrupt, or even disappointed, cliffhanger.
However, as said, the book was a testament to the talent of Tom Lewis, and readers should read this to behold the gruesome terror awaiting in the sequel, and they MUST do so to understand the latter.
I wish the best to the author and I hope Tom Lewis will finish the sequel much sooner than expected. Also, there were some repetitive sentences (iterated descriptions) in the current book that a more careful editing would make the reading better.
I have been expecting demonic stories by Tom Lewis, and I will keep doing so in the very near future.
The first 1/4 of this book was setting the stage. I have never seen an author talk about a story like they can’t actually be bothered to write the story. “ so this happened… then THIS happened, and oh man, this is a cool part”. Stop it. Of course, near scene from scene, Lovecraft was flooded into this tale. Unfortunately it lacks the creepiness of actual Lovecraft. It is in the minutia that the author lost me. while all of this amazing intriguing stuff is happening, we have to stop and have a scene about how the REAL serious investigators of the unknown, a group of teenage boys, have to have a conversation about the sexy legs of the girl protagonist and how she wins their sexual interest over some other random highschool girl. Which is ssssooooo coool and gratifying to the girl investigator. Except its not cool at all, because the author took the main girl in the story and turned her into “the little woman”. Did she go make sammichs for all the boys after that? I will never read any of the work of this author again. Not because of the stupidly obvious sexism. But because of the stupidly obvious everything. Nice concept, too bad too little talent to write it.
I got 93% into the book and would have probably rated it 3 or 4 stars, depending on the ending. Then I reached a part that made me stop and I won't finish it, sadly. It was this interaction:
“How do I look?” she said. “Like the IRA.” Beneath her mask, she smiled at this. “Don’t mess with the Irish.”
I get that most Americans don't know about the ins and outs of The Troubles and that it ended a few decades ago. Regardless - you have to be aware that it's not a thing to joke about. So many people, innocent people, murdered on both sides. So many bombs and threats and anguish. Terrorism that seemed never ending. How would a joke about 9/11 go down? Not that I can imagine any author being crass or stupid enough to find it acceptable to do. I was young when it ended and didn't live anywhere close to Ireland or any major city but I still remember the SIX separate bomb threats that led to me having to flee places like a swimming pool and museums. So yeah - not funny in the slightest.

Wow, wow, wow.
There was so much going on in this book, but everything was linked together. Everything twisted and turned into one another like a perfectly constructed five-strand braid that I wasn't sure where it was going to end but I was eager to find out.
The author's writing style drew me in and the characters and plot kept me reading until the very end. While the overall premise of the book isn’t something out of pocket, the end of days, the antichrist, the delivery, and the journey that is taken by Kenzie and all the people in her life were brilliant and very original. I look forward to reading other works by this author and urge you to pick this book up for an exciting, toe-curling adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I really hope there will be a sequel to this, I’m not ready for it to be over.
Well, I forgot I had this book on kindle and that it was actually an ARC long overdue MY BAD! 🫣 terrible memory but according to my kindle I got it from booksirens so I guess thank you to them.. I forgot I had an account with them.. anyway the book
It was enjoyable, kinda a horror vibe but the FMC is at school I think she is somewhere between 16/17 along with her peers.. small town it goes back into historic roots of the lore there which is cool cause it linked with present time
I don’t recall any plot holes, but like the doom dreading feeling and how you hear those who will have public speaking where they are telling the people in town that the Antichrist is coming…
This book gives you an idea on how that could appear in a modern world and you know what it’s not pretty..
I’m intrigued enough to read the second book when I know what it’s called
In Tom Lewis’s “The Covenant: A Tale of the Antichrist“, an ominous force of evil looms, ready to mercilessly strike down all who oppose it or accidentally stray into its path. Will our cast of characters be able to stop it?
What a journey this was! The book’s first half is bleak and distressing, but it lays the dark groundwork perfectly for the action and terror that is to come.
Very good read....I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Very scary had a H.P. Lovecraft vibe to it Acheron the lost city fog ghouls 😈 demons. The story was awesome Kenzie went through Hell. Losing her little brother and being put in a foster home were she was being abused.
Total cliffhanger, I can't wait for the next one. This has all the spooky things, great world-building and characters. I'm not big on religious fiction but this cuts into it enough to make the good vs. evil leave some room for hope.
I picked this book for spooky season and it did not disappoint! So fast paced and creepy! I was not expecting the adventure this took me on. I cannot wait for the next installment.
Not my normal read but I really liked it and hope there will be a second book to find out what happens and more about the characters. Glad I decided to check it out.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next installment of this series. I don’t want to give too much away about the book but it reminded me of a supernatural goonies type book with some good scares and action.
I enjoyed it so much that I'd love to read the sequel if one is ever written. I want to know if Kenzie and her friends somehow defeats Lillith, Calvin and Acheron. I also wouldn't mind reading a prequel of how Acheron came to be and how God cursed a city.

This was a great book to read just before Halloween. It kept you on the edge of your seat, a very well written story that kept you wanting to read more.
Story flowed nicely and kept me interested. Would have liked to see a bit more development in some of the characters, but all in all, a really good story.
Really good thriller with supernatural items like demons and the antichrist. Quick story and a cliffhanger ending. I really liked the way this author added in little horrors all through the story.
