Will fear leave her alone, vulnerable, and abandoned?
Police officer Zara Grant is new to Hazel Hill, and despite her attempts to keep people at arms-length, she’s connected with the strong and steady, Officer Will Cooper. But how long will he stay around? Everyone else in her life leaves, why not him? Especially when her past creeps up on her in the form of a previous arrestee coming to town and making threats. Can she trust Will to stick around? And how serious are those threats?
Will Cooper always dreamed of becoming a detective. Not that he’ll admit that to anyone, especially Zara. Not when he’s content enough being a uniformed officer instead. Why take the risk of failure? But when Zara finds out he’s abandoned his dream, her own fears of abandonment rise up between them. Is this something they can overcome or will fear—and outside threats—destroy what they have?
As those threats turn into a break-in at Zara’s house while she’s gone, she’s left to wonder what the invader will do if he returns? Can she trust Will to have her back, or will he abandon her to face this alone?
The first in a new series, Abandoned, brings Liz Bradford's readers back to the small city of Hazel Hill, North Carolina. While it takes place chronologically after Giants Fall - The Detectives of Hazel Hill Book Five, there is no need to read the other series first. If you've never read one of Liz's books, this is a great place to start.
*Abandoned was previously released in Stay With Me - Summer Heat collection the summer of 2023.
This was a fast-paced read with non-stop action and suspense. The storyline drew me straight in as someone is after Zara, but who? I enjoyed seeing the detectives from the Detectives of Hazel Hill series making cameo appearances in Abandoned. Zara struggles with trusting people as she has a history of being abandoned by people. Will has his own struggles with trying to prove he's not a failure. I'm looking forward to learning more of AJ and Logan's backstory and hopefully soon.
I enjoyed this book, and have read it at least three times. (I got it in the collection before it came out alone.) Liz Bradford is one of my top favorite authors, and I am glad to have more Hazel Hill connected books. I'm looking forward to the next one! Thanks, Liz for all of your hard work and for putting Christ in each book in realistic ways to the main characters.
When everyone she ever trusted has left her, why should Zara trust Will? As a new police officer in Hazel Hill, she’s instantly drawn to him. Somehow secrets from her past have followed her, and she’s no longer safe. Can she trust Will to stick around, or will he run too!
Great book!! I love Hazel Hill books! Fast paced, suspenseful, a book you can’t put down. Pair a great thriller with clean, Christian writing and you have an amazing book!
I was disappointed on how Zara handled herself- for being a police officer- she put herself in dangerous situations more than once- going to a house alone more than once when she knew domestic abuse was involved- not conceal carrying on her days off? I wish you would portray women especially female police officers on using more critical thinking and thinking ahead on using precautions for self protection
this is a page turning story to the end. someone is breaking into her house but who? will the people that are heling her continue to or will the leave her also. very good story if you like suspense you will want to read the book
