Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.

As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.

Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.

Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it.
I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.

3.5 STARS!!
It’s been quite a while since I have read a Fern Michael story and when I saw this book, I knew it would be a beautiful spring story.

Three different authors and three different stories make for three wonderful experiences.

The book by Michael’s was definitely a unique way to build a romance. The male love interest was someone everyone knew except for the female main character.

Small towns have a way of growing on you and this story offered an interesting take on life in a small town. A sweet way to write a story!

Book Two by Lori Foster was so special. I love the natural way Foster tells this story. Nothing is forced and the characters are amazing. It is like a warm hug featuring a sweet blended family. It’s a feel-good story that shows off Foster’s fabulous storytelling abilities.

Book Three by Carolyn Brown brought back so many memories for me! I am a huge lake girl and the feeling of nostalgia was strong with this one. Good friends, healing, and a budding romance made this a memorable, feel-good story I loved.

Overall, Lilac Time is a wonderful addition to your spring and summer romance stories. A sweet and heartwarming choice!

I wanted to listen to this audiobook because of one of my favorite authors, Lori Foster and it was just a bonus to get two more authors novellas as well. Lori Foster once again proved why she has become a favorite. I absolutely adore the single dad trope. Plus she really pulled on my heartstrings when our h was an orphan who gets a family in her happily ever after. Loved it! I’m also happy to get a taste of two new to me authors. I enjoyed both and plan to check out more by both of them. I must also mention the narrator did a great job with all three novellas.

SWEET AS HONEY * Fern Michaels

Healing a broken heart while helping her father mend a broken hip provides Natalie with the perfect distraction. In fact, it doesn’t take long for her to realize that her heart wasn’t truly broken after all. Could a certain beekeeper find his way into her heart? Despite her initial reservations, Natalie can’t help but be drawn to Garrett. This story goes beyond simply being impressed with Garrett’s beekeeping skills and honey-making process. In this charming novella, Natalie’s compassionate nature shines through, and it’s easy to hope for her to find her own sweet and happy ending.

EVERYTHING SHE’D EVER WANTED * Lori Foster

AnnaBeth, with her unfortunate past, has always yearned for a family of her own. Devlin, with his sweet little girl Mia, captures her heart. This touching story demonstrates that tragedy can blossom into hope. What Devlin and Mia have experienced has shown this to be the case. I thoroughly enjoyed the unfolding of this sweet romance, particularly the unconditional love that Mia embodies.

THE MEMORY CABIN * Carolyn Brown

Sparks fly instantly when Jenna and Carson meet, especially considering their shared history. This heartwarming romance includes the bonds of friendship as well as grief counseling, giving this book an emotional edge. While this was undoubtedly a wonderful romance, a tragic past and hidden secrets could have easily derailed everything.

I thoroughly enjoyed all three stories in this delightful anthology. It’s no surprise that each novella would have a happy ending. These heartwarming stories have an emotional depth that makes them a quick and enjoyable read.

Many thanks to Kensington and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. First off I didn't care for the narrator, I am not sure who thought it would be okay to hire a woman that sounds like a smoker voice to narrate was just not a good idea.

The stories were okay.. I am usually not into short stories. They often feel very very rushed but the first story just was slap in your face all about climate control. I think that the MFC was just annoying and I felt like the romance just literally happened at the last few sentences and it felt just off and sudden. The other stories were okay also. I mean if you are looking for a fast summer read that is perfect to kill time traveling in the car or plane or by the pool you will like this if you like short stories. It was just okay for me.

This anthology is truly a breath of springtime air. I was excited to read these novellas by one of my favorite authors, Fern Michaels, and Lori Foster and Carolyn Brown who I've read and enjoyed recently. All three stories are family oriented and full of emotions, romance, and HEAs (of course). I highly recommend this sweet book.

Lilac Time is the latest anthology from three of the loveliest authors in the industry. All three stories are a breath of fresh air. There is definitely something for everyone here. While I enjoyed all of the stories, my favorite was Everything She'd Ever Wanted. I loved watching Annabeth and Devlin finally give into their attraction. Annabeth has yearned for a forever family. Devlin, his daughter and uncle are exactly the people she needs in her life. It's such a sweet story. I highly recommend this one as well as the others in the anthology.

Lilac Time gives you three novellas, three different flavors of emotional mess, and one very strong urge to hug a pet with a ridiculous name. The premise is solid: women at crossroads, small-town backdrops, and enough lilacs and lemonade to wallpaper a Hallmark set. But let’s be real — this collection is less about the flowers and more about women trying to figure out how to live after the rug’s been yanked out from under them.

In Sweet as Honey by Fern Michaels, Natalie Simmons heads home to help her dad recover from hip surgery and maybe avoid making eye contact with her romantic past. She’s a web designer for rock stars (which feels extremely unbothered of her), but she trades in the city for farmer’s market booths and food pantry shifts while she stays with her parents — and also while dodging a complicated emotional rebound. The real plot starts buzzing when she meets Garrett, a grumpy but golden-hearted beekeeper who initially comes off like the human equivalent of a wet newspaper. He and his sister Georgia run a small honey company, and while Garrett clearly wants nothing to do with this rom-com energy, their slow-burn bickering builds into something sweet. Mr. Meowser (her cat) and Mr. Bumbles (his dog) obviously steal the show. There's a Fourth of July Jamboree, because of course there is. And while nothing in this story breaks new ground, the cozy small-town energy is so strong you can practically smell the honey sticks.

Everything She’d Ever Wanted by Lori Foster is a different kind of soft. Anna Beth Sanders has no family — not really. She grew up in foster care, she lives alone with her very emotionally intuitive Chiweenie named Ruby, and her version of human connection is hanging out with her elderly neighbor Sony and pretending not to be crushed by how lonely she is. Then comes Devlin — Sony’s nephew — and Devlin’s five-year-old daughter Mia, who Anna Beth can’t help but adore. Mia and Ruby are instant soulmates. Anna Beth and Devlin… not so much. At least not at first. But Sony is a seasoned chaos agent and determined to play matchmaker. It’s sweet, it’s slow, and it’s less about sweeping romantic gestures and more about what it means to belong — to a person, a community, maybe even a future. This one’s the only story that brings a little heat — like someone finally remembered grown adults have hormones and unresolved tension. Also? The grandma drama is peak meddling energy, and you’ll want to throw something at her. In the best way.

Carolyn Brown’s The Memory Cabin is all about emotional rubble. Jenna Stewart gets hit with the double whammy of a marriage falling apart and her mother dying — on the same damn day — and it sends her straight back to the lake cabin she grew up in. She paints. She processes. She meets Carson Makay, the soon-to-be park ranger with a conveniently tragic backstory and a history with Jenna that goes back fifteen years. But this story isn’t just about the romance — it’s also about friendship. Jenna’s annual grief-counseling weekend with her two best friends (Amber and Kelly, forever iconic) adds warmth and grounding to a story that otherwise could’ve tipped into melancholy. There are secrets, shared memories, and that very specific kind of love story that only happens after everything else falls apart. Carson doesn’t save her. He just shows up — and lets her choose what comes next.

Three stars. The pacing is uneven. Some emotional arcs get microwaved. And a couple of the romantic pairings go from "who are you?" to "I’d die for you" a little too quickly. But there’s real charm here. This is a collection about second chances — not the dramatic kind, but the quiet, hopeful ones. The ones that sneak up on you at a farmer’s market or in the middle of painting a lake at sunrise. If you need a reset, a warm hug of a read, or just a book where people have actual conversations and nobody gets ghosted or murdered? Lilac Time delivers.

Thank you to NetGalley and RBmedia for an advanced audiobook.

Lilac Time
by Lori Foster; Fern Michaels; Carolyn Brown
Narrated by Natalia Payne

Three different authors and three different stories, one narrator.

SWEET AS HONEY - Fern Michaels **
Natalie Simmons returns to her hometown to assist her dad during his recovery from hip surgery. As a talented graphic designer, she relishes the freedom to work from anywhere, but her focus is on family during this challenging time. While volunteering at the vibrant local farmer's market, she crosses paths with Garrett and his spirited sister, Georgia, who passionately runs the Honey Business, known for its artisanal products. Initially, Natalie finds it difficult to connect with Garrett; their interactions are filled with tension and misunderstandings. However, as the adage suggests, love often emerges in the most unexpected circumstances, revealing that perfection isn't a necessity in matters of the heart.

I’ve tried delving into Fern Michaels' works before, but they never seem to resonate with me. This time, I decided to explore one of her audiobooks, hoping for a different experience. While it was an enjoyable listen, it ultimately didn’t captivate me as I had hoped.

EVERYTHING SHE’D EVER WANTED - Lori Foster **
Annabeth often finds herself captivated by her neighbour Sony's striking nephew, Devlin, who juggles the challenges of single fatherhood with grace. His life may seem chaotic, yet it radiates a warmth and joy that she has always yearned for, having grown up in the uncertainty of foster care. The vibrant bond between Devlin’s spirited little girl, Mia and Annabeth’s feisty dog, Ruby, blossoms unexpectedly, hinting at the potential for more than just a delightful friendship. While the narrative unfolds sweetly and follows a predictable path, it ultimately lacks the lingering impact I had hoped for.

The Memory Cabin - Carolyn Brown ****

Jenna Stewart is a painter whose vibrant colours often reflect the turmoil of her life. After enduring a tumultuous decade marked by divorce papers arriving just as she lost her beloved mother, Jenna's world turned grey. Yet, amidst her grief, she found solace in two kindred spirits: Amber and Kelly, whom she met during grief counselling. Together, they forged an unbreakable bond, meeting each year at Jenna's serene lakeside cabin in Texas, where the gentle lapping of the water and the scent of pine invite them to reminisce and heal.

Carson Makay, after completing his military service, returns to his hometown to take on the role of park ranger, stepping into the shoes of his uncle Victor. Haunted by the shadows of his own emotional journey, Carson grapples with reintegrating into civilian life. Yet, as he reconnects with Jenna and witnesses her resilience, their friendship deepens. The warmth of their shared moments begins to transcend their pasts, revealing an unexpected and profound connection between them.

This beautifully woven tale explores the themes of healing, the power of friendship, and the courage to move forward, reminding us that even in our darkest times, light can break through and lead us to new beginnings.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to both the Publisher and the Author for generously providing me with a complimentary audio Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this novel through NetGalley. This review is my sincere, unbiased reflection of the book, shaped solely by my own thoughts and experiences.

Sweet collection of stories. A favorite part is that each story had at least one animal (dog/cat) that was important to the story.

SWEET AS HONEY * Fern Michaels
Natalie is through with pining over her ex. If only her efforts to be social again didn't lead to repeated run-ins with an infuriating beekeeper at the local farmer's market. Yet Garrett keeps buzzing around. And as Natalie watches his patience and dedication in tending his hives, she begins to wonder if life has a sweet surprise in store.

After a difficult breakup with her boyfriend, Natalie was more than happy to return to her hometown to help her parents while her dad recovered from hip surgery. On her first full day, she encountered Garrett, the local beekeeper. With her current distrust of men, she makes a snap judgment of him. She spends an inordinate amount of time thinking negatively about him until she actually meets the man. I liked Garrett and his devotion to the bees, as well as his efforts to educate people about their importance. Meanwhile, Natalie contemplates moving back home for good. She and Garrett circle each other for a while but eventually show their interest in seeing where a relationship might lead.

EVERYTHING SHE'D EVER WANTED * Lori Foster
Annabeth can see that her neighbor's handsome nephew, Devlin, has his hands full, raising his little girl single-handed. Yet though his life is frazzled, it's full of the kind of joy and togetherness she longs for. And when Devlin's daughter and Annabeth's tiny dog fall hard for each other, it might be the start of more than one beautiful friendship.

Annabeth is lonely, though she tries to hide it. With no family of her own, she has sort of adopted Sony, the elderly man next door. She also got to know Sony's nephew, Devlin, and Devlin's little girl, Mia. Annabeth is a take-charge kind of woman and, as the story opens, steps in to help Devlin during a crisis with Mia. The growing relationship between Annabeth and Devlin is helped along by Uncle Sony's machinations and the love between Mia and Annabeth's adorable dog, Ruby. Annabeth has some self-esteem issues, but Devlin and his family's love and support show her the way to her forever home.

THE MEMORY CABIN * Carolyn Brown
Jenna Stewart loves gathering at her Texas lakeside cabin with her girlfriends. It's an annual tradition to reconnect with the women who helped her deal with her mother's passing along with the end of her marriage. But this year, lives are changing, dreams are evolving. And perhaps Jenna's heart has healed enough to welcome a new love that arrives with the first flowers of spring . . .

After her mother's death and the end of her marriage, Jenna moved back to the lake house that was her favorite summer memory. There, she becomes reacquainted with Carter, her teenage crush and soon-to-be park ranger. I liked how he stood by her side in support when she faced trouble rather than stepping in and taking over. Jenna also faces a crossroads in her life, as her yearly retreats with her best friends come to an end due to changing lives. I loved her friends and how they remained close even with those changes.

Everything She Ever Wanted by Lori Foster
Losing her parents at a young age and growing up in the foster care system, AnnaBeth Sanders’ fragile heart is searching for a family to call her own, but is hesitant to throw her emotional well-being out there for fear of rejection. With Ruby, her cuddle bug Chiweenie and trusty sidekick, AnnaBeth gives her all to those she cares for, but doesn’t know what to do when the feelings are reciprocated.
Cue AnnaBeth’s sweet, elderly neighbor Sonny, his widowed nephew Devlin, and Devlin’s daughter, Mia! This ready made family is full of love and hilarity! With a bit of help from matchmaking Sonny, Devlin and AnnaBeth come to realize opening their hearts may not be so bad after all.
This story is the shortest in the anthology. I wish there was an extra chapter or so to expound on Devlin’s background a tad bit more, but I’m happy with what’s given and the story is full of Foster’s trademark warmth, friendship, found family, and the cutest Chiweenie antics! AnnaBeth’s emotional fears were relatable and Devlin’s patience and steady support was heartwarming.

The Memory Cabin by Carolyn Brown
Jenna has been stuck in an emotional rut since her momma passed and her waste of space, now ex-spouse served her divorce papers…on the same day! She’s looking forward to seeing her two friends, Amber and Kelly, for their yearly memory week-an exchange of bad and good memories they learned to do during grief counseling—but she’s not at all prepared for the news they bring. Will the changes be enough for Jenna to realize she hasn’t lost all hope and her heart is ready to love again?
Carson has mustered out of the military and is replacing his soon to be retired Uncle Victor as park ranger. He’s not only dealing with the loss of a close friend while taking on a new job, but having to say goodbye to his only relative can be tough. Falling for the lovely next door neighbor he’s seen a couple of times over several years…could this be their time?
This was my favorite story of the set. Jenna’s emotional journey —grief, happiness, friendship, support—you name it, and I’m pretty sure Brown covered it! Everything culminated for a very moving storyline. I found myself rooting with Amber and Kelly for Jenna to see what happiness she and Carson could bring to each other.

Sweet As Honey by Fern Michaels
I didn’t finish this story. It wasn’t my cuppa.

I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley/Kensington Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My Thoughts

SWEET AS HONEY FERN MICHAELS

Thirty-four-year-old Natalie Simmons thought of herself as a tomboy-nerd, or a nerdy-tomboy because growing up an hour from Ocala National Forest Natalie was able to indulge in outdoor activities and dressing comfortably became her go to preference for clothing.

Before she realized almost 15 years had passed since Natalie spent any time in the area where she grew up.

When she moved home to help while her father recovered from hip surgery Natalie rediscovered how laid-back things were in her previous small town Florida life compared to the faster pace lifestyle she had grown used to a mere three hours away in the city of Jacksonville.

Over the weeks that Natalie spends helping out her parents and reconnecting with her best friend Diana her needs and wants for life change in the best possible ways.

By end of this story what started out as a short-term plan turned into a new beginning for Natalie, in more ways than one.

EVERYTHING SHE’D EVER WANTED LORI FOSTER

We are introduced to main character AnnaBeth Sanders and her tiny Chiweenie dog, Ruby, who’d fallen head-over-paws in love with five-year-old Mia the daughter of her elderly neighbor Sony’s hot nephew, Devlin Connely.

AnnaBeth had met Devlin the year before, playing it cool around him, his Uncle Sony and Devlin’s adorable daughter Mia every time she interacted with them but falling deeper in love the entire time.

Luckily for her those feelings were not just on her part but reciprocated by all three making the dream of one day having a family to call her own a reality for AnnaBeth.

THE MEMORY CABIN * Carolyn Brown

Jenna Stewart finds solace in reuniting once a year with her friends Amber and Kelly.

Having helped each other over the years to confront and overcome life changes that caused them mental anguish and grief.

Now however there are even more future changes as Jenna finds out and must find a way to stay positive about for each of her friend’s sake.

The common theme for each short story is change and second chances.

While each of these authors have always excelled in keeping a full length novel interesting and making me happy to have read them this particular collection worked but I did not feel any real compulsion to finish any of the three offerings in one sitting as I normally would.

In Sweet as Honey, Fern Michaels gives us Natalie who has returned home to help look after her father after an accident , where she meets a beekeeper who continuously has a run in with and who infuriates her to no end, but as she come to know more about him, she realizes there is more to him than just beekeeping and that no only the honey is sweet. And Natalie starts on a new journey in her life when she makes a big decision about her future.

Everything she’d ever wanted by Lori Foster gives us Annabeth who has moved to a small town and lives next door to a nice elderly gentleman who has a very handsome nephew Devlin, who has a sweet daughter and who has fallen in love with Annabeth’s dog. And Annabeth has fallen for both the little girl and more so with her father. All Annabeth ever wanted was a family...Can these three people make her wish come true.

The Memory Cabin by Carolyn Brown has three friends who meet each year at Jenna’s cabin in a lake side town in a small Texas town. The three women who met at grief counseling group have met each year to come to terms with their grief and loss and to help each other start new paths to happiness. And like new blooms in spring, Jenna will blossom both in her live and heart to her new path.

For me each story told of changing one's life with major life changing paths. Each of these three stories in this anthology have a similar theme but each story is unique. Each author has created a story that their fans will love, and their new fans will be wanting to read more of their books.

For me each story has a something I can relate to which makes the book that much more enjoyable for me to read... grief, it has touched my life many times, Parents and family that need my help in times of medical diagnoses. And friendships that through thick and thin never waver. And Lilacs, they were one of my mom and my grandmother’s fav flowers and when they bloom, I can always feel them near me.

All three of these authors are always on my must-read list. They are favorites. They create story's that have warmth, heart love and friendship. You will want this book on your TBR read shelf this season of rebirth.

This book gets a High Five from me.

I was given an advance reader copy for my honest review. Which I have given freely.

Everything She’d Ever Wanted by Lori Foster
Lori Foster has managed to write another love story where you end up loving everyone you are introduced to, including a little dog named Ruby. Annabeth lives next door to Sony, he is an elderly man who she has become friends with and she checks up on him when is nephew, Devlin is not around. Devlin is a widower with a young daughter, Mia, who Annabeth is crazy about but is not sure what to do about it. One thing she uses to her advantage is her little dog, Ruby, who adores Mia. This is a sweet, adorable story about a family coming together and two people falling in love.

The Memory Cabin by Carolyn Brown

This is my first time reading Carolyn Brown. I thought The Memory Cabin was a sweet story. Jenna started her life over at the cabin her family used to spend summers at after her husband divorced her and her mom passed away. Ten years later, she is still dealing with her loss but meets up with her two best friends for one week every year. Although, this year she is also meeting Carson, the new park ranger, who is pulling Jenna out of her hibernation. Jenna and Carson just click with each other and it works well with the story. This is a nice story about healing, friendship, and love.

Sweet as Honey by Fern Michaels
This is the first time I have read anything by Fern Michaels. I know she is a prolific well-established writer. Unfortunately, I found this short story a little too short. Natalie is in a rut in her professional and personal life so when her father breaks his hip, she packs up and moves home to help out. Natalie begins to come back into her own as she starts getting out and doing things. On her path of discovery, she crosses paths with Garrett, a local beekeeper, who she develops a slight focus on. I expected a romance to spin up in this book and it just didn’t happen. Truly, this was a book about a woman who lived a boring life becoming less boring. In all honesty, I still found her boring. When her past relationship was described, I couldn’t tell if they were a couple or trivia partners so I didn’t see why she was upset about a breakup. If you like a slow burn, so slow it happens after the book is over, then you will enjoy this book.

These are novellas about not related to each other, but with one theme. These stories are about three women who are not looking for love, but find it when they least expect it.

SWEET AS HONEY - Fern Michaels
Natalie Simmons thought she was right on track with a future with her boyfriend until he gives her the “we need to talk” line. She ends that relationship and with it her best friend.
She goes home to help her parents while her father recovers from hip surgery and suddenly realizes that happiness might be just where she is now. Having constant encounters with “the bee man” whom at first she found annoying,
Will being back home be the place to have a future? Will it include this new and interesting man?

EVERYTHING SHE EVER WANTED - Lori Foster
This one is at times heartbreaking as well as heartwarming.
AnnaBeth Sanders has finally found her happy place in her new house and a wonderful friendship with her next door elderly neighbor Sony. She’s also fallen in love with his granddaughter MIa and maybe even the little girl’s father, Devlin.
Devlin, a widower, is a man who truly sees AnnaBeth and wants to show her she really is worthy of love.
Hankies might be needed with this one.

THE MEMORY CABIN - Carolyn Brown
This was another sweet and touching story. Jenna Stewart’s life hasn’t always been easy. Ten years ago she lost her mother and her boyfriend broke up with her, but thanks to a grieving group, she gained two wonderful friends. Friends that for the last ten years, have come to visit her once a year at her cabin, making it “the memory cabin”. One where good memories are held.
When the new park ranger comes to town, an immediate bond and attraction occurs.
This is also the year that things will end and new ones will blossom. Will Jenna be able to let go of the past, and embrace her future? One that might include Carson Makay?

I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Kensington Books. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Three stories to read! And let’s be truthful, it’s all about the pets. In their own ways, they made the stories, at least for me.

Sweet As Honey by Fern Michaels: Great story about two people who are a little bit lost in life but finding each other makes it perfect. Natalie Simmons designs web presences for musicians and is owned by a cat. And she is a nature girl, though her solitary existence she’s come to realize, is limiting her joy of life. She runs into Garrett, the local beekeeper, and his dog Mr. Bumbles. Cute story, and dare I say...sweet.

Everything She’d Ever Wanted by Lori Foster: AnnaBeth Sanders and her Chiweenie dog, Ruby will melt your heart. To me, she was just a nice, caring, warm person who always looked at the bright side. She has a secret crush on Devlin Connely, the nephew of her next-door neighbor. And Devlin has a daughter Mia who not only stole AnnaBeth’s heart but her dog Ruby’s affections as well. So adorable! All the characters, including Uncle Sony, are just the best. AnnaBeth has a backstory that tugged my heart but it never gets her down. These four plus the pup make a perfect “family” and will warm your heart. I know they did mine. Loved it!

The Memory Cabin by Carolyn Brown: I started laughing at the first paragraph – Jenna Stewart came up with a great concept: birth certificates should come with the person’s “expiration date” so everyone can prepare. Now this was Jenna’s way to try to come to terms with her mother’s passing but the idea was still funny to me (not the actual death). She meets Carson Makay and his adorable dog, Bubba. Jenna has some lingering personal trauma from her past that she has to learn to deal with and Carson is the man to help. Great Southern-slant, sweet story and I enjoyed.

Novella’s from three best selling novelists. Spring is in the air and it is time for change and new romance.

Sweet As Honey by Fern Michaels - Natalie returning home to help her parents after her father’s surgery. Her last romance has ended with him cheating on her with a good friend. This one showed Natalie reconnecting with an old friend and enjoying the company of her parents. Everyone is telling her what a great guy the local beekeeper is but it takes a while for them to officially meet.

Everything She’d Ever Wanted by Lori Foster - My personal favorite. Devin is a widower with a cute daughter Ruby. He is trying to keep things together as he cares for his uncle. Next door to the uncle is Annabeth. She is always willing to pitch in with Ruby or help in any way she can. Her kindness is seen by the uncle who can’t help but play matchmaker.

The Memory Cabin by Carolyn Brown - Jenna heads to her cabin at the lake. It is her place of peace and reflection. Her life was upended when her mother passed away on the same day that she received divorce papers. But the cabin is a place for new friends and memories. And Carson, the new Park Ranger, is there to add support.

All three stories have women going through changes. I enjoy novellas and the good ones give you a full story. Of course a really good one leaves you wishing they’d turned those characters into a full length novel. These are all seasoned writers, who stick to kisses or intimacy behind closed doors. I am sure this will please their fans and entertain others looking for quick reads. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the ARC and I am leaving an honest review. (3.5 Stars)

Sweet as Honey - Fern Michaels
Natalie returns to her hometown to take care of her dad. She volunteers at the local farmer’s market where she meets a beekeeper and his sister and reconnects with old friends. Misconceptions between all are cleared up and Natalie realizes that home might be a place she wants to stay. New beginnings, new and rekindled friendships, new love.

Everything She'd Ever Wanted – Lori Foster
Annabeth enjoys helping her neighbor, Sony and admits to herself that she looks forward to the days his nephew, single dad Devlin, and his daughter, Mia, visit. Mia loves Annabeth’s dog, Ruby, and the feeling is mutual. The more time they all spend together, feelings begin to grow between Annabeth and Devlin. They all just might get their happily ever after. A delightful story!

The Memory Cabin - Carolyn Brown
When her mother unexpectedly dies on the same day her husband served her with divorce papers, Jenna decides to move into her mother’s cabin. It’s a beautiful, relaxing place where Jenna and her two friends, Amber and Kelly, get together annually to relax, catch up on each other’s lives, and offer support and advice to each other.

This year there are changes in store. Victor and his wife Dorena, her neighbors in the cabin next door, are retiring and moving away and their nephew, Carson, will be moving in and replacing Victor as the new park ranger. Amber and Kelly both have surprising news that saddens Jenna, yet makes her happy for her friends. Jenna finds that positive changes are coming her way, too.

A story of new beginnings, a few surprises, and more!

Lilac Time consists of novellas by Lori Foster, Fern Michaels, and Carolyn Brown. It is narrated by Natalia Payne.

It’s been a while since I read a Fern Michaels book. When I had the opportunity to listen to a novella by her and two other authors that were new to me, I couldn’t resist.

Sweet as Honey by Fern Michaels -3 stars
Natalie goes home to help after her father had a fall. I struggled with this as I found Natalie to be irritating and immature. A minor delay while honey was being delivered caused her to overreact whenever she heard the word “honey” or someone winked (honey logo). It end on too long and the romance was very rushed.

Everything She’d Ever Wanted by Lori Foster - 5 stars
Lori Foster is a new author to me. I absolutely loved this story. Annabeth watches out for her elderly next-door neighbor who happens to have a handsome nephew, Devlin. As you learn about both of their back stories you can’t help but root for the two of them to get together. I will definitely be looking for more books by Lori Foster!

The Memory Cabin by Carolyn Brown - 5 stars
Carolyn Brown was another author I was not familiar with. This story is both happy and sad and three friends get together at cabin to deal with tragedies that have happened in their lives. This time things are different. Has Jenna healed enough that she is able to move past her mother’s death and the end of her marriage and open her heart to love again? Another author whose work is now in my TBR pile.

I enjoyed Natalia Payne’s narration on all three stories and will look for more books narrated by her.

Thank you to the authors, HarperAudio, and NetGalley for the Advanced
Listener Copy (ALC) copy of these books and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

LILAC TIME REVIEW:

Sweet As Honey by Fern Michaels
I enjoyed this story. I learned a lot about the bees/honey production and the importance of buying products locally. It was great to see Natalie return home and grow fond of her town once again and, regain a friend and reconnect with her parents. The love interest between Natalie and Garrett was just getting started when the story ended. I do understand that it is a novella-type story though. I would love to read what happens next for them. I’ve only read one other book by Fern Michaels and I like her style. I look forward to more books from this author.

Everything She’d Ever Wanted by Lori Foster
Annabeth is awesome as she shares her beloved doggy with her little neighbor. I enjoyed Devlin & Annabeth’s story. Annabeth is so kind and both Devlin & her tend to his uncle so well. They both cherish having a family and so meant for each other. As one of my top favorite authors, I enjoyed this story, as I always do, typical of Lori Foster’s very talented & creative writing style. She always keeps me turning the page and wanting more.

The Memory Cabin by Carolyn Brown
Jenna & her friends are healing from their past traumas. It is great that Jenna is finally able to let go of her mom’s death by releasing her ashes. It is great that her friends are there to help her in the process. Once she does that & sees that her friends have also healed, she opens up herself to other possibilities such as a relationship and becoming a mentor for a teenager as she was once mentored by a caring & talented artist herself. Carolyn Brown is a new artist for me. I liked her writing style as well. It is very similar to Foster & Michael’s. I look forward to reading some more of her books in the future.

Lilac Time contains 3 novellas which all threee are heartwarming and include wonderful pets!

Sweet as Honey by Fern Michaals
For me, this story centered around Natalie Simmons, web designer,
who is trying to find herself. She moves back home with her cat and begins her self- discovery journey and includes meeting the local beekeeper, Garett. While I felt it was a slow read, it was still a sweet story.

Everything She'd Ever Wanted by Lori Foster
Annabeth grows up in foster care and is scared to get too attached to others in her life for fear of losing them like she lost her parents. Her secret dream is to have a family of her own. She has a lot of love to give. Devlin, a single parent who lost his wife and mother of Mia, has been looking after his a
aging Uncle Sony who lives next door to Annabeth. While Annabeth & Devlin have had some contact, they get to know each other more when Uncle Sony has an accident. Of course, Annabeth's dog, Ruby, is a big hit with everyone but especially with Mia. This is a great story of two people finding love and overcoming their pasts.

The Memory Cabin by Carolyn Brown
Jenna and 2 of her closest friends have an annual trip to Jenna's lake cabin where they share memories and their grief that brought them together.
This turns out to be their last year together as each moves on with their lives. Jenna meets Carson, the new park ranger, who helps heal her heart and also gives her the confidence of stepping out of the shadows as an artist and gallery owner. This is a very heartwarming story of rebuilding lives.

This is my honest review from the ARC received.

Sweet as Honey

In this first story we have Natalie a website designer and tech guru and Garrett a bee keeper. Natalie is a no nonsense tomboy who loves nature and tech. She is content in her life until her boyfriend dumps her and goes behind her back. So it is perfect timing when her dad needs some help recovering from surgery and she goes home to help out. While there she discovers many things about herself and what she really wants out of life, while also interacting with a frustrating bee keeper. A very sweet story.

Everything She’d Ever Wanted:

The second story featured content creator Annabeth and banker Devlin. Annabeth is a sweet and caring soul who has delighted in caring for her elderly neighbor Sony and his nephew’s daughter Mia. She has lusted after his nephew Devlin for a while, but not dared to do anything about it since he is a widow with his hands full. That is, until he gives a hint that he might want more. This was a sweet story about found family and learning to trust love.

The Memory Cabin:

In this final story we have Jenna the painter and Carson the park ranger. Jenna has had a rough few years after getting divorced and losing her mother on the same day. Every year Jenna meets up with friends from grief counseling at her cabin by the lake to reminisce and share their painful memories. Except this year things are different with her two friends that come to share. As Jenna feels left behind by her friends and their progress, she realizes it might be time for her to finally heal and move on, and Carson might be just the person to help her with that.

A very sweet collection of feel good stories!

I was so excited for this anthology/Novela featuring three of my favorite authors.
EVERYTHING SHE EVER WANTED by Lori Foster
I absolutely fell in love with the characters in this book. For a novella, they just had so much personality. AnnaBeth lost her parents at a young age, and she was put into the foster care system. She eventually worked her way into a neighborhood with an amazing neighbor. They kind of adopted each other. Sony would call on Annabeth whenever he needed something. And Annabeth was always willing to help. Annabeth also had a sweet little dog that she named Ruby.

Uncle Sony had a nephew that would come by when he could. And that nephew’s name is Devlin and he just so happens to be extremely attractive. With a delightful little girl named Mia.

Ruby and Mia became best friends right away. So you can kind of say that this little family ended up coming together because of the dog.

THE MEMORY CABIN by Carolyn Brown

I cannot imagine what it would be like to be Jenna. Who lost her mom and was served with divorce papers from her somewhat useless husband on the very same day.
There’s this saying the grass is always greener. Jenna had two friends, Amber and Kelly that she met in grief counseling. They made a habit of getting together once a year to exchange memories and catch up. In what is called “The Memory Cabin”After hearing what Amber and Kelly had to say, Jenna felt better. And decided that maybe she could love again.
Carson Makay finished his military duties and came home to replace his uncle Victor as the park Ranger. Also, he’s carrying his burdens over the loss of a good friend.
He is pretty attracted to Jenna. Could this be Jenna’s new love?

SWEET AS HONEY by Fern Michael’s

Natalie, it’s a bit confused why everybody in town loves the local beekeeper Garrett. Natalie’s first impression of him was not that great. But the more she got to know him the more she could understand how the rest Of The Town felt.
Another great read with wonderful characters.

Sweet as Honey:
This story overall was not for me. I felt like the author kept hinting at something the whole story and it just never happened so it felt like why even mention it. I really like Sally and Robert they always seemed to have something sassy to say that had me chuckle. I did like Diana she seemed like a genuine friend and person and someone who you would want in your corner.

Everything she ever wanted:
This story reminding me of the saying "That blood doesn't make family". I love how Annabeth had the biggest heart and for those in her life and helping those was well. She was super quirky and when stressful situations happen she was all for finding a positive spin on things. I loved Mia that girl and her energy just jumped off the pages and always had something to laugh at her and Annabeth were two pea's and a pod. I really had fun reading this light hearted story.

The Memory Cabin:
This story hit a little different for me as I am in the middle of the grief process this author was talking about in this story. I loved the friendships between Jenna, and her friends it felt like each one of the ladies was in different place in life however everyone of them was helping each person, and build each other up. I liked Carson he was fun and while I get the story was about the women in the story I so wanted more of this story. Overall this was a fun story and the author kept it clean. However if you are or have ever lost some one grab tissues you will need them.

Thank you to the publisher for a giveaway copy of the collection!

As a 27-year-old man I'm definitely not the intended audience for any of these novellas, but I did enjoy the charming and sweet stories they told. That being said...

Sweet as Honey - Fern Michaels - ⭐️
This one was just objectively bad. The first two chapters were absolutely laborious to get through and then the rest of the novella felt like groundhog day while the main character continued living the same sickeningly sweet small town fantasies over and over whilst holding a strangely intense grudge for the stranger who she falls in love with (*literally*) over the course of the last half of a page. I'd give less than a star if I could.

Everything She'd Ever Wanted - Lori Foster - ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This one was far and away the best of the bunch. Actually well-developed and complex characters and more themes and takeaways than I'd expect from such a short novella. I would bump this up to 3.5 stars and would definitely read a full-length novel of AnnaBeth and Devlin's story if it existed. I do have to at least threaten to knock points for naming the male love interest Devlin, though, it's diabolical.

The Memory Cabin - Carolyn Brown - ⭐️⭐️
This one started off *so strong* and then completely derailed into a country-living lakeside fantasy. A lot of grammatical errors and some spelling mistakes plagued the last few chapters and it was clear there wasn't much effort put in to editing and revising them. Overall though, still a good, unique story, much better and more well-rounded than the Michaels.
