She's divorced and building a new life. He's happy living as a responsibility-free nomad. When forced to work together to save a failing music store, will this lonely pair find what they are looking for? Or instead, will they find what they need?

Nora’s life is out of sync since her recent divorce, but an urgent call for help draws her to Cataluma, California, to help her uncle Jock’s struggling music store.

There, fate reunites her with Jock’s stepson Gene, whom she hasn’t seen in twenty-five years, since she was a gangly fifteen-year-old trying in vain to get twenty-year-old Gene to notice her.

Well, he’s noticing her now, and Nora’s rediscovering old feelings she can’t ignore.
As they work together to keep the store running, their relationship grows, but they must face several challenges along the way, including Jock’s health problems and the store’s financial woes.

Jeanine Lauren doesn’t disappoint. I love that her stories often involve second chance love. And since I’m of that age, it’s nice to showcase (slightly) older couples finding love.

Nora and Geno are great characters that you really like. They’re not perfect, they have baggage but doesn’t everyone. I also like that they both have a love of music. Something else I really relate to in this story.

There is also a side story of Geno’s stepdad Jock and his best friend Sandy (maybe more than best friend).

This is just an all around feel good story and a pleasant way to enjoy an afternoon.

I am a sucker for a happy ending. That is exactly what Jeanine Lauren gave us in this uplifting story. I fell in love with NORA and GENO. Something Of Note was a closed door romance. that would actually make a good Hallmark movie! 🙂 I would for sure recommend this book.

Back Together

Gene and Nora go back a long way with Jock’s music shop linking them. But they have not had much contact in decades. Now middle-aged adults, they find their way back to Jock’s shop, music, and each other. Sweet story, quick read, cute dog character.

I enjoyed this story. I think it could have been developed more so that we could see more of the intentions with Nora and Eugene. We didn’t see very much of them actually falling for each other, it just focused a lot on the business. I feel like we could have also learned more about Sandy and Jock and their history.

Eugene (Gene) is headed to Catalina, CA because his stepfather Jock fell off a ladder and broke his back. Jock owns a music store and Sandra has worked for him for years but she still needs some help so Gene is going to take on teaching music lessons. Gene had bad luck with his previous relationships because he seem to point the women into better situations. But in walks Honoria (Nora) which is Jock’s niece. Gene hadn’t seen Nora for years and she was a stunning woman to him now! Nora had come back to help Uncle Jock also.

Nora’s husband had many affairs throughout their marriage plus he had lied to her about some important things. Nora is doing accounting work so she decides to get Jock’s store up into the digital era, instead of boxes of paper receipts. Both Nora and Gene are also in charge of working on the Strawberry festival. Can these two work together and only be friends? Can Nora trust another man? And, does Sandra hold a spark for Jock?

Something of Note by Jeanine Lauren is a light, uplit, closed door, friends to lovers romance set in a small town.

Nora is recently divorced and because she worked for her ex husband and is unemployed she decides this is the perfect time to visit her uncle and help him with his struggling music business in small town Cataluma, California. She reunites with Eugene whom she hasn’t seen since childhood. Eugene is her uncle’s stepson and they work together to save the music store.

I love the friends to lovers, second chances, small town romance, and saving the shop tropes in Something of Note. Yes, tropes are predictable but in the best ways when you’re searching for an UpLit read.

A small town sweet romance is sometimes the right read at the right time. Eugene is five years older than Nora and her secret teenage crush. Eugene is a free spirit and has never committed to a long-term relationship. Could his growing attraction to Nora, cause him to reconsider his nomadic and footloose lifestyle?

Although life has dealt these two some disappointments, the trauma and drama is minimal. So, if you love music and you’re looking for a light, closed door romance set in a small, friendly town, with a lovely HEA, I can recommend this sweet UpLit, second chances story.

Thanks #NetGalley Littleford House Books @BookSirens and the author for a complimentary e ARC of #SomethingOfNote upon my request. All opinions are my own.

Something of Note :A Sweet Second Chance Romance by Jeanine Lauren is a short novela only 145 pages, second chance romance between to 40 something year olds set in a small town.

The story is set around Eugene, a musician who never married moves from job to job, including snowboard teacher and construction worker, who goes back to his hometown to help his step father run his music store while he gets over falling off a ladder and breaking some bones.

In addition there is his step cousin there Nora who is going through a divorce is sent by her mum to help Jock,

Something of Note due to its size is a light read with very little character event development even with the main characters Eugen and Nora which is unusual as the story is told from both of their point of view and both of them get roughly the same amount of time.

The story is said to be a second chance romance, however this is one of those novels of this trope that is only there in the description as Nora fancied Eugene when they were younger, to me this should be in a different category of romance trope.

Having said that the novel is a fairly well written sweet closed door romance set in a small town with a middle age couple and well worth reading,

Sweet music

I’m a Jeanine Lauren fan. I love romances with more mature couples – ones who’ve lived. Living means enduring hardships. Living means facing tough realities – like cheating, or lying, or mortality.

Nora has headed from Seattle down to Cataluma, California to help out her aging uncle, Jock. Eugene, Jock’s friend, is also around to help in preparation for the upcoming Strawberry Festival. Nora had a crush on Eugene when they were younger but, alas, that relationship never took hold. Nora moved on to marry a guy who, in the end, turned out to be a real jerk. Still, she’s got her dog and a will to move forward.

Eugene’s a wanderer. But he remembers Nora, and soon feelings are rekindled. I enjoyed the slow burn of watching these two reconnect and was awesomely happy when they finally figured out how to make things work.

I’ll say I also loved the secondary characters in the book. Oh, and the dog. Have to mention the dog! Truly just a delightful, sweet love story.

What to expect: small town romance, family, friends to lovers, music, saving the shop trope

Something of Note is a sweet story of two people who find a home in each other. Eugene is a free spirit who is not inclined to settle down until he meets Nora who, as a young girl five years his junior, had a crush on him and followed him around. Nora is now going through a divorce and is trying to heal. Now they are brought together to help save the family music store.

For me the novel was a little clunky at times and I think the attraction between the main characters seemed hurried. I would have liked to read more scenes between the MCs that would make me understand why they would turn their lives around to be with each other.

Still, I enjoyed reading about the charming little town and all its characters. If you are looking for a light read about a sweet small town romance, this might be the book for you.

Eugene would be classified as a nomad as he travels at the time. He works three different jobs but is thinking about working for the band full time. He has now gone home to help his step-father as Jock fell off a ladder and broke his hip and the recovery will take a while. Jock owns a music store and doesn’t use technology at all so all they have is a desk full of papers and receipts. Nora comes to help after her mother asks her too. She is going through a divorce and is waiting for him to sign the papers. She found out he has been a cheater for years and also kept a very important secret from her. She has had a crush on Eugene and when she sees him again after many years, that crush has come back. Will she be able to trust again after the betrayal of her ex and would there be a possibility that Eugene would give up the traveling way of life and settle down? Of course, Duke the dog is a plus to this story as is Sandy who cares deeply for Jock.

Really enjoyed this book as I love to read and love music, so this was the best of both!! Enjoyed the author's style and flow of the story. Story was also very realistic and relatable if music has been present in one's life.

Enjoyed the cantankerous Uncle Jock and even though he cared about people he had to be in control of his music shop, even from the hospital bed. His saving graces Sandy, a long time friend and employee, who cared for Jock more then as a friend. Jock's niece, Nora who is an accountant but has a strong musical background who is hoping to get her divorce from Crispin, her cheating ex-husband and handsome, gorgeous Eugene or Geno who is a 'nomad' because he hasn't met his true love yet.

Good reading how the family's love was all around and to see an old time attraction grow between Eugene or Geno and Nora. If you are looking for a nice, light read about music, love and family this is the right book for you!

I received an early coopy for my honest and voluntary review

Short simple love story about second chances
Though the story is about Nora and Geno, reading about Sandy and Jock also brought a smile to my face.
Eugene is Jock's stepson and even the way their relationship unfolds after Jock's fall at the shop was brought out subtly and sweetly. Eugene's backstory about how he never settles at any particular place and his multiple jobs all throughout the year and his band comes out as it is clear that Eugene is a free spirit.
Honoria is an accountant among other things and her mother Doris is Jock's sister. As Doris is working on her shop, Honoria, decides to help Sandy in the shop at her mother's insistence.
That brings Geno and Nora together.
Through Geno, Nora's story with Crispin and the sudden end to her married life and career brings Nora to Jock's shop.
Can the two of them work things out and will Geno be able to settle?
Duke was cute and sweet.
Overall, sweet short romance. Nice read.

3.5 stars. Honoria/Nora & Eugene/Gene/Geno’s story is sweet. They knew each other as kids and last saw each other when they were 16 and 20. Nora was an awkward teen with puppy love for Geno, who barely acknowledged her existence. They’re now 40 and 44, respectively, Nora is a recent divorcee, and confirmed bachelor Geno wears many hats and has no permanent home. They’re reunited by a mutual family member’s accident as they’re tasked with running the business while he recovers.

Mutual attraction leads to a will they/won’t they situation (closed door only), and lots of obstacles along the way. Will Nora risk her heart again to a man who never stays in a place for more than a season? Will she beat her biological clock and become a mother?

I gave it less than four stars because the names are dreadful, there are some rather slow bits, and some of the dialogue is dated and awkward. Otherwise it’s a romance that will appeal to a broad audience.

Something of Note by Jeanine Lauren is a very easy to read book about a friends to lovers romance that takes place in a small town.

Some of the books tropes include:
- Small town
- Friends to lovers
- Second Chance romance

Both the main characters are reunited when they go and help Eugenes step father after he had a bad fall which resulted In a broken hip and right arm. The books story line is great and its easy to understand where the book is going. Its very entertaining but there are parts of the book that could be expanded on slightly more. Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I have read an early review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A second chance Music theme romance between unlucky in love Eugene and Nora.

Nora had a crush on Eugene when they were both young but, a relationship never took hold. Years later they are reunited.
Either one of them are youngsters, both have changed over the years. Now, they are working together getting the musical performances ready for the upcoming Strawberry Festival. As well as save the towns music store…. Sometimes it takes a few challenges to bring people closer together.

This story is heartwarming and easy to read Highly recommended!

I enjoyed reading this story but feel that if it had been longer the characters would have had more depth.

The story lacked detail in parts, like Jock's finances. Nora looked over his papers he had in the safe and came to the conclusion that he was financially secure but it wasn't explained how she came to that conclusion. There was also no further mention about the sheet music.

I would've liked to have seen how Nora & Eugene's love developed over time. It seemed like ending was rushed.

I've read several books written by Jeanine Lauren; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is part of the Shopping of Love in Cataluma Series; it is a stand-alone book. The story is about Nora & Eugene; she returns to Cataluma to help he uncle; he’s her uncle’s step-son that she had a crush on years ago but he never noticed her because she was too young for him.

I found this to be a sweet story of second-chance romance. Two people come together to save the family music store. They both have more baggage then a Samsonite luggage store. The question is, can they work through it and find each other for a happy ending? I found the characters to be averagely cute but sweet. They both have romantic sides. The story is there and just needs a touch of tweaking. It's a quick romantic read that is still an enjoyable and entertaining treat.

A sweet older couple romance along with her dog. I love how they remember each other from years ago when she a child and he’s young adult. Enjoyed how her dog was never an after thought and regular walking and feeding dog was naturally occurring. A cute couple which he loves sneaking the dog bacon. Loved that part the most sneaking bacon to the dog. Lol. *I was given an advanced reader copy via BookSirens and am voluntarily giving my honest review.

Jock needs help. The older man fell, and is facing a long recovery period. Enter Nora, his niece, and Eugene, his stepson. The attraction is strong between them, but aren't they related? Their mutual love of music, and Jock's music store, bring them together in this heartwarming romance. I particularly like that the author writes stories about couples who are slightly older. Something of note is a great book about seasoned romance written by Jeanine Lauren.

Eugene seemed not to be lucky in romance until Nora came along to help his uncle who was hurt and who happened to be Eugene's stepfather.

I loved the depth of the story and how the story flows in an interesting way from the beginning to the end, it's so captivating.

A great book indeed

Nora is ready for something new so the request to help her uncle couldn't have come at a better time. Eugene is starting to feel his age so helping his father at the music store sounds perfect. While Nora and Eugene are learning how to work together they are also starting to feel a little chemistry between them. I enjoyed reading about how their relationship developed.
