My name is Hannah. Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me.

As a quiet, true crime-obsessed teenager, I don’t have many friends. With the exception of my tirelessly working mother, my father who lives far away, and my therapist, Dr. Psych, I’m alone. Until the day I met Rebecca.

Rebecca is everything a girl wants to be. Beautiful. Popular. Star of the cheerleading squad. When she takes an interest in me, I jump on the chance to be her friend. It doesn’t matter that her boyfriend hates me, or that she is only friendly with me in secret. I’m lucky to have her, and we both know it. That is, until I have to learn the hard way. When things feel too good to be true, they often are.

When Rebecca goes missing, it’s up to me to uncover why. Remember when I said my mind plays tricks on me? It also loses memories…and a lot of them. Where did Rebecca go? Why can’t I remember anything from the days before she disappeared? And can I figure it all out before it’s too late?

Misplaced Memory is my Debut novel. Let me introduce myself. I am the proud mom of one spontaneous little boy and a bonus mom of three. What a rewarding experience to be a part of their lives the last 11 years.
My husband and I met by chance but who knew it would lead to all this. We own a salvage yard in Brockport NY selling used auto parts, a repair shop in Clarendon NY, we are auto dealers and we have so many more things we want to start up.
I have always been a creative person not an artist by any means but I love to create new things. I make t-shirts for our shops and stickers and I create fun things for my son's spirit weeks at school. I have actually started to think of taking that to the next level for myself as well. I do mugs and dip into sublimation a tad and I enjoy doing diamond art to keep myself moving. Really it's fun for me.
I love to read and I read many genres across the board. I have always been the person that if the cover appeals to me I will pick it up.
Writing was not something I would have thought I would get into but I truly enjoy it so much once I started with my first I couldn't stop. Note I did not live this story or know anyone who did, it is not a personal story. My stories are just that.
I am a ghoul by nature, Halloween is my favorite holiday and fall my favorite season. I enjoy watching horror movies, crime scene shows and documentaries. Of course I often watch Ghost and Paranormal shows also. Which is where my brain tends to tread while I write.
I am so grateful for those of you who have been incredibly supportive already and I hope you enjoy this journey with me !

In her debut novel, Michelle Gallo weaves together different periods of the main character, Hannah’s life. This impressive approach results in making the story feel rich and layered.

I really appreciated how the author slowly peeled back the layers of Hannah’s life experiences. It was like watching a puzzle come together piece by piece until the truth finally emerged. This gradual reveal made me sympathize with both Hannah and her mother, whose love for Hannah was clear, even though it was overshadowed by her daughter's perceptions.

The chapter featuring the Captain was a particular highlight for me. It felt like the author hit her stride there, and it tied up the book’s ending in a really satisfying way. It’s moments like these that made me think this debut novel is just the start of something great.

Overall, Michelle Gallo has done a fantastic job with this book. It’s insightful, engaging, and leaves you thinking long after you’ve turned the last page. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what she writes next!

Hannah, a quiet, true crime-obsessed teenager with few friends, meets and befriends Rebecca, a popular cheerleader. Despite Rebecca's boyfriend's hostility and their secretive friendship, Hannah cherishes the bond. When Rebecca goes missing, Hannah must uncover the truth, complicated by her unreliable memory. As she tries to piece together what happened, Hannah questions her own mind and memories to solve the mystery before it's too late.

I recently finished reading this book, and it was a five-star experience for me! The writing was exceptional, with important details skillfully woven into the narrative from the very first page. The author masterfully led me through the story, revealing crucial elements so subtly that their significance only dawned on me later, making the twists all the more impactful. The writing style and timeline provided a deep understanding of the main character, Hannah, and kept me second-guessing my theories throughout. Overall, I highly recommend this book; it's one of the best thrillers I've read this year, and I can't wait to read more from this talented author.

I’m really not sure how this has 4 star ratings. This book is full of grammatical and punctuation errors. Did anyone even edit it? Not to mention, predictable from the start. I had it on my “want to read” list and I’m having a “misplaced memory” regarding who made that recommendation. I hate quitting anything… so I pushed through. It wasn’t worth it for me.

First novel by a new author

I did enjoy this book. Very detailed, I felt like I was right there. I figured out the ending pretty early on, however, I believe this author definitely has a bright future writing.

Great job for a first novel! There was a lot of detail given about people and places. The story line was very on par for the Housemaid trilogy.
