This Pucking Love #2

These Pucking Boys

Rate this book
Once upon a time, a small-town girl thought her dreams were over. She could have never imagined that her life would turn around and resemble the rom-com screenplays she planned to write.

I’m that small-town girl, and I should consider myself lucky that my ex turned out to be a major douche.

Now I finally know what it means to be head over heels in love with someone. In my case, I’ve fallen hard for three hockey players. But it’s one thing to have fun with three men at the same time, quite a different story to have a serious relationship with them.

Reputations are at stake—mine and theirs. If the media finds out, I can say goodbye to my job, and my family will never speak to me again.

But I’m willing to risk it all because a love like ours only happens once in a lifetime.

Well. I read it.
Do I feel better? No.

The drama? Was so.. Unnecessary. Dumb. Like. Plane crashes? Shootings? Blackmail? Stalking? What genre of book is this?

I feel like the author really just wanted someone to have a Scottish accent... But doesn't actually know what that means. So they randomly threw in what they thought were Scottish sounding words... Over and over and over again. Lachlan would have been far less annoying without the Scottish thing. 🙄

June. June June June. I couldn't stand her martyr outlook. She was so damn immature. If she's "getting stalked" and "getting harassed" and cops are already involved... Then PRESS CHARGES YOU DUMMY. I just. She was so annoying. I can't even say how many times I was rolling my eyes.

I liked Alex and Jake for the most part. Once they got over their "one night only" bull... But it wasn't great.

Also. The storyline made no sense. The end of book one (which, why did this mess need to be 2 parts?) the June (terrible name) was on her period. Then book 2, same day... Magically, no more period. No mention of it. Plus we've only gone thru a few DAYS but then it's all the sudden like 2 weeks later? But it's made to seem like it's the next day.

I just did not like this at all. I finished it out of spite. And I don't feel better having finished it.
Would not recommend.

Awesome finish to this duet 😊. I wasn’t sure how the author was going to make this work for June and the boys but she figured it out.

I really felt that there should have been a showdown for Jake with his father because that was a big part of the books, but that was left unresolved.

I would like to see a bonus epilogue at some point. Please 🙏

So this book had a shooting, a sex tape, abuse, blackmail, dangerous allergy reactions, stalking, car accidents.... I feel like I'm missing things. And it was only about 300 pages long. I swear, it was like how much can I put these people through. Craziness. So again, a little unbelievable for the situation and time frame, but you know, I needed fluff/crazy so it worked for me right now.

This picks up right where the cliffhanger of book 1 left us. We do get to dive more into each of the guys in this one. They are giving their own storyline to follow, but I still feel like it was mostly surface level to just get to the sexy times. There was a lot of side things thrown in that I felt could have been left out in order for us to really get involved in this relationship and not have seem so one dimensional. But that being said, I did stick with it and found it pretty cute.

I still think everything felt like it all just lined up a little too perfectly but that's romance books for ya, and sometimes, you just need to escape into that for a bit. I will definitely be checking out more from Hercules.

This book and series were cheesy corn dog with cringe sauce!
Everything about this was just so cheesy so corny and so cringe.
It was written way too matter-of-factly almost like a police report. There was no real talent or passion or depth to it.
The dialogue was beyond immature and like a bad soap opera. Or even a really bad hallmark movie.
She made the men come across as 12-year-olds especially poor Lachlan. She made the guy sound like Hagrid who still sleeps with a Blankey and is called Lacky. He’s a grown man, but he came across as a little boy. And I love Insta love but this was way over the top.
It was probably one of the worst series I’ve ever read.

And don’t even get me started on the book covers. They look like magazine covers from a Twink gay porn mag.

Is like this book was a test to see how many different plots and storylines can happen in a 315 page book. Holy unnecessary and annoying. This book didn’t need to be created. If anything, only about 30% of it should’ve existed in ONE BOOK. At first I was enjoying it but Jesus Christ how many things can you add in one book. Not to mention all of the plot holes and love ends that were left from this. Now don’t get me wrong, were these books extremely unbelievable yes but part 2 was just ridiculous.. I actually enjoyed reading part 1 even though it was just as wild. But this was like they had 10 authors working on a book and told them all to write a storyline then combined it. Golly the amount of eye rolls I had towards the end was so much I thought my eyes would get stuck. I’m rating this book 2 stars because the spice was well written, it was funny, and I do like the cheekiness of the characters. The first half of the book wasn’t as terrible as the rest, that’s when it really started to lose me.

These boys are delicious as heck and have the biggest hearts when it comes to their girl! My gosh these 4 have not been given the best of luck and yet together they find their way! All 4 have to learn to not only trust in what they have but to learn to love because nothing has ever come easy to them!

When walls finally crumble and they learn to lean on each other the rest of the world just gets drown out because nothing is stronger than their bond!

Michelle’s RH books are always some of my faves because she takes you on a crazy adventure full of so much angst and some serious steamy moments that make them a 5 on the chile pepper scale for me every time!

DNF- this book is so chaotic. I managed to make it through book 1 with minimal issues but everything went off the rails in book 2. It honestly feels like the author ran out of things to write about to make this worth being two books, so they made a bunch of small, off the wall incidents to fill space. Like there's more life altering events in the first half of this book than some multi-book series.

Omg so glad Book two was ready to read after that cliffhanger from book one. After the scare June, Jake, Ryan and Lachlan are closer than ever. The men are opening up to June and they are finding out that Southern women are sweet but are built with steel. Ryan and Jake have to deal with their families problems it was more important than ever to keep communicating with each other. This story had one crisis after another until it came to a head. The story was beautifully written and this reader hated to see it end.

This book continued, and finished, the same way that the first one started. It was definitely a nice, light read. And yet, at the same time, it just feels very mild and anti-climatic.

There was way too much that happened, and yet the drama and suspense of each situation gets resolved and disappears pretty quickly and without much issue.
I didn't really feel much worry over any of the situations, so it didn't bother me.. Because of this, there wasn't much feeling with each situation for me.

It feels like the author wanted to try writing so many situations and scenes, and then just crammed them all into one book. We've got sports, RH, plane crash, shootings, stalking, blackmail, car crash, leaked sex tape, assault, and more!
I would have loved to see some of the resolution of some things, too. I would love to have seen Maya's apology, or Wendy getting confronted, or Bill losing everything. I want to see that happen, not just something that gets mentioned in passing.

I don't think I would read this duet again, and I doubt I would actively recommend it to others. If you want a smooth and light read, though, you may enjoy it.

Part Two picks up right where the drama left off—and Hercules does not hold back. The emotions hit harder, the relationships go deeper, and the character growth is exactly what I hoped for (and then some).
The book really starts to pick up in the second half. The romantic tension simmers, the challenges feel authentic, and the stakes—both emotional and personal—rise in a way that makes every chapter count. I found myself way more invested than I expected, rooting for them like they were my own team.
The ending was so satisfying. It wraps things up with heart, closure, and just the right amount of softness. It left me smiling, maybe even a little too attached to these chaotic, lovable people.
Final thoughts:
•Emotional damage: minimal, thanks to that sweet ending.
•Steam level: dangerous if read in public.
•Hockey boyfriends: 10/10, would let ruin me.
If you made it through Part One, you need to finish this. It’s the reward the characters—and readers—deserve!

A little too much…probably spoilers.

Book 1… enjoyed, cute storyline, sorta fast insta love between June and her guys-Lachlan, Jake and Ryan. However, this second book was a little much.
You start with the plane crash, then you have all of the guys arrested followed by a sex tape and further by school shooting. Throw in a Ryan’s terminal cancer mother that walked away years ago, Jake being blackmailed by his father and Lachlan finding his long lost grandmother. In between is a ton sod spicy scenes.
While I enjoyed the spice and the underlying story, all the side stuff got to be a little too over the top and much.

a tad excessive.

Super sweet and very quick read. Honestly, it could’ve been one book with some careful editing. To have all these calamities occur within moments of each other seems a tad unrealistic. Especially the incident with Louis’s Dad…that was a bit of a reach. I also don’t care for the open ended situation with the tape. It didn’t really tell us why it got released or what the consequences of the actions were. This is distributing p@rn…it’s still a crime regardless of if they are adults, it was released without their consent or knowledge and you can go to jail for that. I feel like this was glossed over when it’s a pretty traumatic situation.

Omg this was a soap opera. Literally every possible plot twist imaginable makes its way into this one and while it was kind of a train wreck, I couldn’t look away. It’s a feel good light hearted romcom with the same spice as the first book, I’m glad I read the series because I enjoyed it for being what it was but I couldn’t help laughing and rolling my eyes. The characters a loveable and I found myself laughing a lot or yelling at the book but that ending was the worst. I don’t want to ruin it but some other reviewers mention it and I’m glad I was prepared for that. Just…too much going on.

Rating: 3/5 stars

Main tropes: Reverse Harem/Why choose, Sports romance (Hockey), Close proximity, Secret relationship, Found family

Secondary tropes:Grumpy/Sunshine, Reforming playboy, Cinnamon roll hero

Micro-trope: Hero with dimples, pierced hero (apadravya), Food play

Triggers/Safety warning:

These Pucking Boys was a largely easy read which showed June, Ryan, Lachlan, and Jake settling into their relationship and facing the trials and tribulations of life together.

The first book in this duet began to establish who the four main characters were as individuals and who they could be together. Book two continued this by further establishing personalities and group dynamics but I don't think they were developed to their full potential.

Ryan continued to be a charming and flirty individual but in this book we saw his vulnerability and got to explore that through him having to face his past. It made for, at times, a striking contrast to how he appeared in book one and it was something that I enjoyed but this book continues the lightheartedness of book one so it wasn't explored for long and therefore left something to be desired.

Jake's characterisation didn't change from how he appeared in book one but we did get further presentation of his different personality characteristics. We saw his hotheadedness first hand and him take on the protector role when it came to his found family and of course his continued sweetness. He continued to be a likeable and sometimes loveable hero but I do feel like there was a missed opportunity for more from him when it came to the resolution of the storyline regarding his biological family.

Lachlan continued to be a loveable cinnamon roll hero. His personality was at times infectious for when it came to feel good vibes and I loved his interactions with the other main characters. However I feel like both Lachlan and the reader were let down by a small and quickly resolved secondary storyline regarding his upbringing and what happened regarding that - it simply could have been so much more than it was.

When it came to June in book one I felt like all we learnt from her came from how others (namely the heroes) saw her so I'm glad we saw more from her in this book. June continued to be a caring and sassy heroine but as we saw more of her life outside of her relationships with the guys we learnt more. We saw more vulnerability but we also saw her tackle that and how headstrong she could be and as a result these scenes made her a more well developed heroine who was more than the good that the heroes saw in her.

The focus on the fun of a new relationship and well matched sexual chemistry from book one continued in book two. However, with the group facing the difficulty of maintaining a relationship with four people, the pressures from how this was perceived, and the other trials and tribulations the book had a more serious tone. I found the slightly longer timeline and more serious themes to aid the development of the character’s deeper feelings and subsequently the reader's ability to connect to the story. There were certainly elements of their relationship development in this book that I enjoyed more than the first, however I don't think I became any more invested in their story than how I felt after finishing book one.

The secondary characters continued to be a mix of ones you liked and ones you didn't. When it came to the ones you liked, some stood out more than others and there are a few I'd consider reading more about if they got their own books. When it came to the ones you weren't meant to like and who were a source of conflict, as contradictory as it may appear to you I don't think we saw enough of them. The book kept the story's light-hearted tone considering the more serious themes and potential triggers but because these things appeared briefly, sometimes with minor detail, as did the characters involved in them. Therefore there came times when I was questioning if their inclusion was necessary to the story and the main character arcs.

Overall I enjoyed this book but like the first it did leave a few things to be desired which lessened my enjoyment.

Favourite Quote:
"No, lass. You're much more than that. You're my happy ending."
… "Happy ending in what sense?"
"All of them, my love."

*Sigh!* This was not the conclusion to this duet that I was hoping for. I mean, sure, they all get a HEA and that - what kind of romance novel would it be if the characters didn't end up happy and together? But ... all the dramatics kind of got old after awhile. It's an endless cycle of unfortunate events from the start of the book until the end. And while I get that the author needs to keep things interesting to hold the reader's interest, at some point, for the characters to continue to have horrible events keep happening to them seems over the top and honestly just obnoxious. And the way in which everything was resolved really seemed too convenient. So many of the things that happen to them wouldn't have been a simple fix. And they get away with A LOT! I understand that they're the heroes of our story, but for them not to have consequences like at all doesn't really seem fair.
And while it may have been something that I was just irritated by in the first book, the way the sex scenes are written continue on in this book. The spice is okay and worth reading, but do leave a little to be desired. They're descriptive and detailed, but they do seem to trail off when things are really heating up. None of the sex scenes feel like they're really finished. It almost is akin to how things drop off in a closed door romance, but we've already been given some juicy details, why stop things there? I was hoping that line of writing wouldn't continue and it would feel like we had really come to the end of the spice.
I will say that for all the things I had an issue with, the reader does find out some major cliffhangers that were still up in the air (specifically what happens to Lachlan and Jake & why Ryan ditched June and went out drinking) pretty quickly into the beginning of this book.

There are so many different endings to tie up loose ends that didn't seem logical and were just convenient to ensure that everything was wrapped up with a nice bow. However, the thing that I took the most issue with was that June was offered her job back. I understand that her being recorded having sex wasn't her fault nor was it her fault that it was leaked to media outlets. However, I don't think that after something like that she shouldn't have stayed fired. Even if she was shot protecting a student after the fact. The school board, parents of students, colleagues, and so many other people have seen a video of her having sex with three guys. That's not something that can be unseen or is likely to disappear from the internet for forever. I just don't think that she would have been asked to come back to work after something like that AND she had already been fired.
There were a lot of other things that I probably could have taken issue with and I'm not sure why that bothered me the most as outlandish, but it did and there it is.

I'm not saying you should skip this conclusion, just go into it knowing that there is so much damn drama that it almost overshadows anything else that you're trying to read. Enjoy!

Book two down and it was just as good as the first one. The last 33% I was eating it up! The drama in this one was muchhhh bigger. Scandal, three hospital visits, family drama from multiple families, wedding, pregnancy, firing, and whatever else you can think of, it happened. Whether it happened to them or not. I am happy with the way this book ended. I’m happy everyone has taken a chill pill and we can have a happy life. Jakes parents are actually ridiculous. We already knew abt his terrible father but even his mother is scandalous! She mad abt the husband having an affair but so is she! Like plsssss. June’s parents, mainly her mom, are also not the best. Even though they came around, she was hostile to begin with and still is. April is just annoying. I mean she’s the younger sister and obviously has her flaws but still ugh. Omg I loveeeeeeee that Lachy found his biological family! I’m so happy for him cause I mean I love him and don’t tell anyone but he’s definitely my favorite. And I’m glad that Ryan has made peace with his family, specifically his sister. Now doggone on Wendy.. SHE GOT WHAT SHE DESERVED THE WRETCH! Exposing them because of jealously is crazy! It’s giving your madddd! And now look at you… DIVORCED! HA! And the world is right again. Maya was almost about to get it cause idk who you talking to like that girl. And Melissa!! I wouldn’t mind a spin-off story about her. I wanna know her backstory and what was happening with her fiancee and where does she go from here, relatsionship wise. I love how she had June’s back from the beginning and they became instant friends. I wanna know more about her. Also Katrina is the woman! Thick and thin!!! She was there for June no matter what! Supported her through everything and we all need a Katrina in our life. Matron of Honor as she should be. Oh oh and I won’t forget Bill’s karma at the end! Ha ya idiot. He threatened the boys with charges unless June talked to his aunt and that woman STILL kept you out the will! HA! Ya still broke! HA! I hope Danika likes a broke cheating man. I don’t know why she doesn’t think he won’t do it to her. Let’s be fr. I think I have covered everyone and I’m a very happy camper with this series. One of the first series I have finished in a while. AND i read the books back to back. That’s how you can tell I enjoyed this series.

Michelle Hercules provides a fast paced, drama filled, steamy story in her addicting why choose hockey romance, These Pucking Boys! She never fails to weave a multi-faceted complex story for her characters and build a world you can get lost in. This is one with cameos from previous books…like the cute costume ideas for our four main characters as well as hockey rivals!

June is an elementary school teacher who proposed to her long time boyfriend on the Jumbotron at his favorite team’s hockey game. Instead of a happily ever after, she discovers he was cheating with her friend. Three hockey players on the team refused to let that be the end of her night and invited her to the after party. From there a one night stand with three intense and attractive hockey players turns into a whirlwind of fun, drama, and love.

I loved the way this trio of guys saw June and knew they had to have her. Jake is alpha in every way, a protector and broody. He is my favorite. Lachy is a big teddy bear who is attentive, tender, and so hands on. Ryan is the flirt, providing fun ideas and afraid to let people in, but loyal when he does. Together they meet every need June has and are just what she wants. And she fulfills all their needs too.

This story is full of heat. But there is so much happening at the same time. You don’t have to sacrifice story for heat here! Michelle always provides both!

a two to three star read

I appreciate a story that starts off where we left off with minimal backtracking. It’s also crazy to think of how this book began compared to where it ended. I’m not sure why we randomly threw in the inheritance plot out of nowhere. I’m sure why we threw in gun violence, domestic violence, stalking, religious trauma, so many additional familial issues and just all the different ways to break them up. Wendy’s actions were weird and never truly discussed after they happened. Why did Malcolm end up leaving the team? It took too long to check back in with the student. The dying parent was mentioned and passed over as was the estranged half sister. There was just so much happening that at times it was really good and then nothing came of it or it was unnecessary and became a hole. I liked the characters, I liked the premise. The series could’ve been really good but overall it was fine. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it. It’s a real middle of the road read but the characters are great. Minus her siblings who seemed good in the first book, as did her parents and then in part two they all got extremely weird.

A teď tu o hokejové Popelce?

Title - These Pucking Boys (books 1 & 2)
Author - Michelle Hercules
PROS
- Fave tropes: why choose, hockey romance, sassy FMC
- Diverse MMC personalities
- Character growth throughout both books
- Epilogue
- Couldn't put down

CONS
- A few logistical issues, like when she had to pee in book one the morning after, and then it didn't seem to a major issue after a point.
- I found the ominous foreboding of Jake's dad's involvement a bit heavy handed. Like, why did he want him in New York that badly?

FORMAT - Kindle
Did you like the book? 4 stars - I really liked it! I'll probably remember stuff from it in the near future.
Did you think about the book when not reading it? Yes
How severe was the angst? When it happened, I could feel it coming and dreaded the shoe dropping.
Re-readability - Would read again
If part of a series, would you continue? Yes
Basic takeaway

I like that this book had three distinctly different MMC yet still fell into standard hockey team archetypes. The spice was nice and wove organically through the books. The auxilliary characters were well-done. Not jarringly different, but not forgettable. It had laughs, angst, upsets and warm-fuzzies.

I absolutely love June's polyamorous relationship. The way it's written is not weird and it makes total sense. I really liked the ending; it gives all its meaning to the corny jumbotron scene from the first part. Ghosh! Are these men thoughtful! Characters' background for Jake, Lachlan and Ryan have been deepen. We understand them better under their skin. They really opened up to June.
All the plot holes from the first book have been answered, except the one regarding Bill's and Danika's. I still think they should've recognize theirs wrongs and apologize to June, not ask her a favor! Wtf, Bill!

This book is SO GOOD and so full of action and drama. It's one thing after the other and its glue the reader to the pages. Will definitely read both parts again one day, but back-to-back.

Only con: I felt like June's jealousy was out of place. Like it wasn't her. And if she trust the boys so much, why did she stop women from talking to them (ex. Halloween party)?

I finished the first book a few months ago thanks to prime reading or stuff your kindle, can't remember which. I was so disappointed when it was left on the cliffhanger. Now that I have kindle unlimited I had to finish it.
Things I didn't like: 1. not much mention of what happened in the first book besides for the glaringly obvious jumbotron fiasco. I had to relearn people's names and who they were to the story. 2. The drama. OMG the drama. Nothing This crazy happens to 1 person and sometimes I felt that June made terrible decisions that put her in these awful situations. 3. If the drama was cut down this book could have been 1 book.
Things I did like: 1. There relationship together. All 3 fit in so well it was so adorable. 2. No third act break up. I was very happy that all 4 of them were mature to know that it wouldn't solve anything. 3. The characters they were written so well, even the sub characters had a star in the book. Loved it!

This book picks up right where we left off and doesn't stop. It is jam-packed with drama, twists, and turns—exactly what I was waiting for.

Many readers expressed a desire for more background on the characters, and Michelle delivers in Book 2. You learn about their pasts in greater depth.

I appreciated how everyone's relationships grow and bonds become stronger. June further develops her connections with each of the boys, spending more one-on-one time with them. The boys also form a closer bond among themselves. Everyone truly shows up for each other and doesn't back down—it's the cutest found family situation.

If you're looking for a hockey romance filled with banter, spice, a little drama, swoon-worthy men, and an overall fun read, I highly recommend this book.
