Their Hallowed Queen: Part One

Rate this book
I’m the final girl.Or at least, I was, three years ago after my best friend was murdered in a haunted house on Halloween. Her death set off a chain reaction that culminated in me running from home and never looking back… until now.The last few months, I’ve known someone was watching me, following me, sneaking into my apartment. I just couldn’t prove it. Even my therapist with benefits never seemed to believe me. But now he’s dead and I’m the chief suspect in his murder. I can’t help thinking that the same people who ran me out of town all those years ago may be the same people responsible for luring me back in.And I fall for it, going back to the quiet little hometown of Serenity Hollow. Within hours of being back, trouble finds me. And it comes in the shape of three stupidly sexy men… men I loved, men I trusted with my life, men I barely remember. They’re determined to punish me for abandoning them all those years ago, and their punishment may just end up colliding with the shattered remains of my heart.Their Hallowed Queen is a DARK romance with HEAVY content warnings. The final girl will not have to choose between the suitors, and there will be a Happily Ever After at the end of Part Two to make all the tragedy worth it.

Got the book for review on booksirens.
3.5 stars rounded up. Very smutt, dark and a bit twisted. It had a final girl vibes and a mystery to who killed her best friend. I'm very intruiged to see what will happen in book to and get more answers. It's a why choose and very steamy but liked that it had an intruiging plot to go with it.

Received from Booksirens. Nope, I didn't get paid for this. Yep, full honesty.
It's part one and it has potential. At the moment it's murder mystery thriller meets porn and the sex sort of drowns everything out. The story flicks back and forth from 2019 to 2023, 2019 being the night Audrey is murdered and 2023 when Marley is forced to come home.

It starts off with Scream vibes, the bubbly crowd that you know at least one is going to end up murdered, sex and drugs. I'm yet to watch Freddy or Jason, but I know what they look like so yeah, scary shit. This is one that isn't subtle, the sex is strong with threats of rape and no safe word. The thriller part is interesting and I definitely want to see how it plays out. Then there's 2023, the homecoming that starts off grisly, moves into sex, more sex, add in a porn feel cliche and yep, more sex. The book finishes in a cliffhanger that feels a little, ah, let's stop there for now. I'd read the second half. Story wise, bouncing between 3.5 stars and 4. Currently feels unbalanced with the sex. I do like the writing style, so off to read the vampire isle one.

Dear author, who gave you permission to leave me hanging like that? Because this book was amazing. I devoured it in hours. It’s been so long since I’ve read a good book that had me feeling all sorts of feels. And this is everything I didn’t know I wanted or needed out of a Halloween book! I do wish it were longer. I know a second part will be coming out but I wish I had it now. I can’t wait for the next one!

Now, let’s talk about the contents of this book:
She has all the spice. All the kinks. And all the hot men.
She has some dark content/dark spice scenes so if that’s not your thing, don’t read her 🫶🏽
Our main girly flashes between past and present where she is the center of murder(s?) the story in the past unfolds bit by bit. In the present, she reunites with some friends 😉 from the past.

I received a free arc copy of this book for an honest voluntary review 💕

Book: Their Hallowed Queen (This is bk.1 in a duology, it ends on a cliffhanger.)
Author: Carly Claire
Date Started & Read: October 11th - October 11th ( not yet released )
Genre/s: Romance and Mystery/Thriller
T/W's?: Yes, multiple, author includes a list of tw's in the introduction.
Rating: 3.5 stars!

If Den of Vipers and Haunting Adeline had a child… it would be this book… because… oof.

Their Hallowed Queen is a dark and thrilling romance and mystery that delves into the life of Marley, who is our MFC, we are then shown her life during two timelines, 2019 and 2023, in our 2019 time we are shown Marley and her friend entering a haunted house with another group of people, and it all goes downhill from there, in 2023, Marley has finally drawn up the courage to return home after running away from it after a horrible event occured in 2019, when Marley gets home, shes entirely unaware of what danger will come to her, or more like who will come for her.

Carly has a very unique writing style that manages to keep the reader hooked, however when it comes to the language of the book, I personally feel that it wasn't as advanced as it should or could've been. Now in saying that the writing managed to keep me quite hooked in the story I feel that the pacing was off, as what we were doing was getting one chapter from 2019 and then switching to a chapter from 2023, this made me feel more distanced from the 'romance' plot because personally I just wanted to figure out what was going to happen 'mystery' wise, and kept wanting to skim through the other scenes, I think if the author put focused more on the 2019 plotline than the 2023 plotline the story could have had a lot more potential. Now, we had quite a good variety of characters, however I think we should have been shown a bit more of Marley's character development, I feel like she was so loaded with trauma, basically anything you can think of rest-assured Marley has been through it, that we didn't get to focus on who she was beneath all the depression and anxiety. Now to talk about our MMC's we barely got anything from them at all, other than that they were assholes who didn't really care about our MC's boundaries, and one of them even goes as far as subtly threatening her with rape. The setting of this book, in my opinion, was basically perfect, the whole ominous, spooky vibe really set the book in motion and showed it's whole "halloween" aspect.

Overall, this book was a solid 3.5 stars, the plotline could definitly be altered slightly to make it more intresting and captivating, however what was there was decent. The characters, were all very different, with different motivations, and even though the MMC's could be slight assholes with no moral boundaries the author did set them up to have huge character growth and development in the next book. This book's setting makes it a perfect fall read, and I'd recommend it for someone who wants a mystery with a heavy amount of spice.

This isn't a paid review. Book acquired through Booksiren.

Well, I am so invested now. Do yourself a favour and read this book! Each chapter had me hooked. It's an easy read and the story has so many subplots that I had this book devoured in a day.

It's got thrills, mystery, horror and 90's slasher vibes mixed with some serious spicy BDSM.

Cannot wait for part two.

this book is my new roman empire

In the Stefon voice:

“this book has everything: Dick piercings, dark morally grey male characters, reverse harem, swords crossing, dirty talk with degradation!!!” Truly all of my boxes have been checked. It’s part one of a two part book and as soon as part 2 is out I will devour it too.

Their Hallowed queen is a dark romance story about Marley and the events that enfold in her life, after she had something happen in a haunted house. I won't spoil it, go read it for yourself ;) The story has a dual timeline, it starts in 2019 and eventually she goes back to this haunted house in 2023 and well..that was a dangerous idea.

Overal the book was entertaining, but the writing felt a little off in it's pacing. The dual timeline wasn't balanced, as there was more focus on the past timeline.
What I did really like about the book was the Halloween, spooky vibe and the spice. The author nailed that!
I would recommend this book to someone who's looking for a Halloween, mystery, 90's slasher vibe book with lots(!) of steam, BDSM-ish scenes. I feel like this book has build a good base for book2, so I will be reading that. If only to know what happens next and to see the characters develop.

okay imma be real and that this was the slowwwwest book. I was not a fan of the flipping from past to present every chapter because in present they were being FREAKS then the past would come up and she was being interrogated or going to a funeral or some shit. The spice? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ but it was just one solo scene spread throughout the last half of the book.
I mean I get it Marley has trauma but damn get to the men!!!
Will I read part 2? Yes😔 Gots to see if through.
Reread? Nope. Nuh uh. No thanks.

This just was not for me. I like the thriller aspect of it and the mystery surrounding who killed Audrey… but the whole book was smut- which like i said- is for some people- just not for me.

If you like really heavy smut and a little bit of horror- here ya go!

I might come back and change this review and rating after reading book 2, but as it stands now, there were some great parts, some horrible elements, and there were things that were just like WTF? Why?!?

As others have mentioned, this book flip flops between 2019 and 2023, and the back and fourth is exhausting, I was over it after a couple of flops. I wish we had spent more time on one time, and then moved to the other time, a couple back and fourths is not bad, but switching every chapter, and with all the characters, and the two tandem investigations... IDK, it wasn't my favorite.

Her relationship with her therapist was super weird. And it wasn't *really* addressed either. Like all of a sudden she's hooking up with him? I'm not yucking this relationship, I am questioning the writing and how it is presented to the reader. I didn't like how the relationship wasn't given background or justification.

And it is strange that everyone connected to her kept dying, and yet she's like, "That sucked... Well, I have other things to get to... tra la la, everything's fine"

There were many parts where she was such an unreliable narrator, it bothered me! I hope it is better explained in book 2. Is she dumb? Is she being taken advantage of? Is she having episodes of madness and blacking out? And she's like, hey dudes I don't remember, you say you saved me, so I'm just going to believe you, now let's get busy"

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'll be back. I know I will have more to say..

2.5 🌟

“Their Hallowed Queen” (Part One) - Carly Claire. Let me say that in the beginning of the book there is a note from the author, and it tells you exactly what you need to know about this book before getting started. The main Character of this story is named Marley, and she seems to be followed by tragedy. Her best friend was murdered on Halloween 2019 in her hometown and later her therapist in 2023 after she moves away. To deal with all of this Marley goes back to visit her sister in her hometown. Soon after arriving she is reunited with blasts from the past.

Now, the author does switch the chapters between 2019 and 2023 which is new for me and surprisingly brilliant. It keeps you engaged and leaves you feeling teased between timelines. You get a build up from the chapter then it flashes back to the past or present. This also gives answers to questions you may have as they arrive in the story. This book is fast-paced, full of spice all while being a who done it book. The author's writing is easy to read and easy to follow along with. Now this does leave you in a cliff hanger that made me literally scream “What?!?”. But it is OK, book 2 is out. I would give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars and would definitely be recommending.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for an honest review. This does not influence my thoughts, opinions, or the content of my review. My feedback is based solely on the merit of the book and my personal reading experience.

Trigger/ What to expect:
- Why Choose
- Breath Play
-Primal Play
- Knife Play
- Water Play
- Body Shaming
- Death
- Snowballing
- Kidnapping
- MMFM
- Halloween Vibes

The story focuses on Marley and what happened within the haunted house and what caused the death of her best friend in 2019. Even though Marley was there no one seems to believe her side of the events. In 2023, Marley finally has the courage to return home and finally face what really happened in 2019. The book changes time periods between 2019 and 2023- every other chapter. I think I would have preferred if the gap between each one was a bit longer rather than the constant back and forth between past and present. I did enjoy seeing the story from both sides. But I just felt it didn't flow as well because of this.

Carly writes in a way that you can't help but be drawn in. I can't wait to read the second book to find out what happens and to see the rest of the story unfold.

Their Hallowed Queen was a great spicy read perfect for spooky season. This was a really fast paced read, the spice was incredible and I really enjoyed the thriller/horror aspect to it as well.

My only criticism is that the pacing felt slightly off at times due to the switching between the past and the present every chapter, I feel like it would maybe have flowed a bit better if the flash backs had been every few chapter instead.

This book is part one so it left things on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to find out what happens next!

It took me a couple of chapters to really get into the story, but once I did, I finished the book in just a few hours! I so want to know what’s going to happen and what did happen.

I wasn’t a super huge fan of the constant back and forth between present and past timelines because it felt like it kept jerking me out of the story. I do love a good flashback, but the back and forth was a little jarring. Aside from that, the book was fantastic, and I cannot wait for part two to come out!

What really happened that Halloween night, and why is Marley’s memory different from the security cameras? How?? Magic? Maybe. Maybe not. I can’t decide. Also why does Audrey resemble Marley, and how does she have Marley’s dress?? Ah! So many questions.

Colton, Rev, and Tripp are intriguing. I so want to know more about them and what they feel for Marley! It’s obvious they seem to be obsessed with her, but for how long? They make it sound like they wanted her before she left, but we haven’t gotten her side of leaving yet or what lead up to it.

Story-wise, I give this book a 5/5. It’s got me on my toes, and I need to know more! Format for me is 3/5 for reasons I’ve already mentioned. Spice is 3/5 in my opinion! I’m eager for part two! I received this book from BookSirens.

🧡’Their Hallowed Queen’ by Carly Claire🧡
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 / 5⭐️’s
🌶🌶🌶🌶

‘Are you sure you want to be f*cked like a whore tonight?’

‘Keep your eyes on your reflection, baby. You may just get to see the moment we steal your soul.’

‘I want your sweet little c*nt to weep for me every night as you reach the brink of blacking out because you’re screaming so loud it steals the breath from your lungs. I want you to forget any man who has ever f*cked you before tonight, any man who has ever touched you that wasn’t one of us. And most of all, I want to share you with my friends.’

Okay… I know this is Halloween themed but I really wanted to read it… so I did 🤭 and it didn’t disappoint… well the first one didn’t anyway 🫣!

I was hooked from the start of the first book and had some suspicions about Colton but then they slowly faded… how wrong I was for that 🫣!!! The plot twists in the book where good, I was on edge the full time! Don’t get me started on the spice either it was just chefs kiss 🥵!!!!

The second book started off good but I didn’t really like the ending and how it took on a fantasy twist I really wasn’t expecting that at all!

But overall I really loved the story!! Super dark and super spicy what more could you want 😍🥵!!!

I know this was a part one for this story, but I found this to have way too many holes for me to think this story was "great." Like others have said, this story flips between past and present. I found the past to be easier to read as the FMC in the present is unrelatable. And what happens would never logically happen in this story without a little bit of questioning. I would never relate to a character with PTSD from a traumatic event and visit the home to what happened, to just F*** to three guys I lived my childhood with. The smut was interrupted by jumping back to the past several times. I think if you don't mind that and don't mind having SEVERAL questions about the story and are willing to wait for the next part, this isn't a bad read. But I would've found having a prequel of the past and a second book on the present would've been more enjoyable to read. I think a lot of questions and judgements about the FMC would've been settled more easily. And let me tell you I really enjoyed this book up until about page 170, then I kind of fell off the bandwagon.

“You really do like it rough, don’t you, kitten?”

First, I want to say I'm really looking forward to book two because I was left wanting… needing more. Luckily, I don't have long to wait! I feel like so much was said, yet I feel like it didn't get anywhere. The story slowly unfolded but not completely making 100% sense just yet. Again, I really need that second book, ahah! The book ended at a really horrible (great!!!!) spot in the story, I was almost yelling, ha! Like, I'm so upset where it ended - the author definitely thought that one through! The story was written well and portrayed differently from other books I've read. I thought maybe I'd be confused, but it really worked out very well, and I'm looking forward to everything coming together in the story in book two. It's definitely dark, thought so check TWs.

This is more like 3.5 stars for me, rounded up for Goodreads for its sheer WTF factor. I’m not entirely sure what I just read.

I don’t know if my brain couldn’t handle the alternating timelines - from past to present and back again, over and over— or if the storyline or writing in general was a little disjointed, but when I finished I felt this weird mix of confusion: tons of questions, like, who the hell was/is Mark, what happened to him & his friends, why is Marley being targeted so viciously, why was Audrey killed, and how the heck did Marley have 3 childhood friends who were obsessed /in love with her and she had absolutely no clue; and then this desire to see what happens next in Part 2.

Yes, the smut is smuttin’ and the spice is spicin’, but my brain just needs the story to make a little more sense. Maybe it will all come together in the next book? I don’t regret the ride on which this book took me, I just wish I had a better understanding of some things at the end of it.

3.5⭐️ The mystery is thrilling enough but the book is set up so every chapter switches from present day October 2023 to flashbacks of October 2019. The present day is basically one big, long, drawn out smut scene that resumes every other chapter. This book would probably be higher rated if it was reformatted to have the first half of the story be the flashback to the murder and the other half be the present day.

For me, it’s fine to flashback every once and awhile in present day, but the constant flipping from past to present day threesome scene to past is an odd format.

Will I be reading the second part? Of course. I’m actually buying on Kindle right now. As I said, the mystery is thrilling enough, I just believe the author could have really done something great with reformatting.

Carly Claire has got me allllll kinds of fucked-up.
My mind is spiiiiiinnnniiiiinnngggg!
Holy fucking shit balls.
Okay so first off, who the hell killed Audrey? That was gory as fuck. I had to re-read it twice to make sure I read what I actually read! I honestly felt like Marley - the confusion was unreal. Totally mind boggling.
Secondly, why the fuck is Jake acting like a drugged-up psycho? I mean it makes sense, his name starts with a J and from personal experience, men named Jake are always toxic and should be avoided at all costs.
Thirdly, THE SMUT WAS SMUTTINNGGGG. Goddamn.
Those three men >>> goddamn!
I’m like a bitch in heat whose mind has been blown to fucking bits.
I’m actually kinda scared for what’s about to go down in book 2… imma need a minute to mentally recover

I was NOT ready for it to end where it ended! I can’t decide if I should get part 2 now or read a palate cleanser before diving in to part 2. This was a very sexy why choose read, though I’m still confused as to what happened! I am hoping that besides more sexy scenes the author finally finishes telling us what binds all 4 characters together in the second book. I read some reviews that said it was confusing with the back and forth timelines but I actually enjoyed them! It was not confusing nor did it take away from anything. I am also hoping we find out who murdered her friend in the second part and why.

If you don’t like detailed sex scenes, grisly murders, or BDSM, or multiple sex partners, this is not for you. It is very much for me though.
