Lady Charlotte Wentworth knows all too well what it feels like to be a burden. Born out of wedlock, she has never felt accepted by her cruel stepmother or her spoiled stepsister. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when her father receives a letter from the Duke of Devonshire, who years ago promised to marry his daughter and now wishes to honor that promise. Forced to accept the proposal intended for her stepsister, Charlotte braces herself for the worst.
Can she dare to hope when her future husband doesn’t even know her real name?
Henry Devinish, the Duke of Devonshire, was once an optimistic young man. After a serious accident, he became a shadow of his former self, scarred both inside and out. He longs for love and companionship, yet, fears no woman will have him as he is. Duty and loneliness guide his hand as he writes the fateful letter that will bring Charlotte into his life. Her unpretentious manner and gentle care thaw his wounded heart, and against all reason, he completely and utterly falls for her. If only he could trust her enough to reveal the truth about his condition…
Will Henry find in Charlotte everything he’s ever hoped for?
As the two of them tiptoe in an enchanting dance of half-truths and painful secrets, their deepening connection cannot be denied. Will they trust each other with the truth, even though it may very well doom their fragile bond? Or will they continue upon a path that will inevitably expose them and tear them apart?

Lucy Langton was born in Boston but currently lives in Maine with her husband and their beautiful twin daughters.
She has a PhD in English literature from Columbia University. Her field of expertise was 19th-century British novel. After college, she went backpacking in Europe where she met her husband. It was love at first sight!
Lucy knew she wanted to be a writer ever since she was a little girl, writing stories from different eras to read to her little brother. Her first story felt like a dream come true.
When she’s not writing, she enjoys painting, eating pizza and baking… not necessarily in that order! She also identifies herself as the biggest Jane Austen fan!
DNF @7%. A lot of errors to the point that sentences don't make sense. The writing style is just plain but, the narration is divided into third person pov, dialogues and oddly enough the Duke's inner thoughts - in the same paragraph as the 3rd pov, with no punctuation etc.
This also looks like insta-love/fascination on our Hero's side which just isn't my thing.
In terms of storytelling this one blatantly cuts to the chase; it's been 16 years since the accident, the Duke holds his party regularly for years and only NOW comes forward about why he's in a wheelchair?? And in such an unnatural and silly manner this topic is started, especially that all these men seem to have known each other since childhood...
Given I have just read Stacy Reid's "My Darling Duke", this one would suffer from comparisons.
This is the story of Henry and Charlotte, based on a letter of the offer of marriage. And a deception that could break the Dukes heart and her, s.,. When Charlotte's cruel family sends her to marry the Duke(a cripple) impersonation her sister. The jokes on them. You, ll need to read the story to find out why. Thank you ♥️
A good story about a young woman mistreated by her step sister and step mother goes to meet a duke though she used her sister's name but she and the duke fell in love and others tried to part them A good read
