Jay's Silence: The Worst Guide to Collecting Dragons

Rate this book
Four dragon shifters. Three parts of a casket. Two unexpected portals. And a sorceress
stuck in a pear tree.

I may have my voice back, but that doesn’t mean I’ve got anything else worked out. Like how to
regain my powers. Or how to get my four hot dragon shifters to understand I’m not for keeps.

Even if they filled gaps in my soul, I never knew were missing, saying goodbye is inevitable. At
least for me. Right now, we’ve got bigger problems. I’ve put the world in danger, but I can’t
remember how.

A magical road trip might be the only way to find some answers. Three continents later and way
too many run-ins from my past, makes me realize that answers were only a dragon scale away.

This is an erotic reverse harem urban fantasy novel. Medium to fast burn. It is explicit with some knotting and MM. The author feels there are no trigger warnings. However, it does feature interpersonal relationships that are not black and white. If you are looking for a sweet romance full of happy people and clear-cut situations, please don't read this book.

I absolutely love this series it’s now one of my favorites. Hot dragon shifters and a badass female main character who could what more . Jay is my new spirit animal.

I just realized that I accidentally left the same review on both books my bad . I was having issues with goodreads and when I did my reviews they were in my notes because goodreads wasn’t working properly and i thought I did separate reviews but obviously I didn’t.so hers my real review.

I gotta say I actually hated Tyson in the first book he was such an entitled cunt to put in bluntly and I wanted to throat punch him on several occasions lol but he really matured in this book .

I’m so glad they guys came through for her and showed her she don’t need to count on herself that they would be in her corner. The things on dragon island are getting nuts it just goes to show you that secrets are never secrets for long and all the truths are coming to light as they should. Fan freaking tastic book that I’d totally recommend .🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

I couldn't have asked for a better follow-up to Silent Jay. Jay's Silence was fecking awesome! It wasn't until this book that I realized how hard Jay is on herself. I guess it goes to show that no matter how powerful everyone everyone has their doubts and insecurities. Jay is learning albeit at a snail's pace but she is letting down her walls. Plus, the guys came through, I'm so glad they didn't abandon her when things got a little dicey. They're all learning and adapting, finally coming together as a group. Heck, even Tyson is becoming more mature. Who saw that coming?

The plot of this book is magic and mayhem. Jay and her guys go on a (literal) magical international road trip. Jay and the guys are gather clues to piece together the all the mysteries that surround Jay and find unexpected answers. The group goes to a lot of fascinating places, meets some interesting characters, and there was loads of magic involved, and they find themselves in some wild situations. It was such an exciting read, something was always happening and emotions were flying.

Plus, things are getting janky on Dragon Isle, and it has nothing to do with Jay and her mess. No, there is something very wrong at Dragon Central. Things are starting to add up. I loved the twists and turns. So many secrets and lies came to the surface that it was hard to tell which way was up.

Silent Jay had me hooked from the first page. I was glued to my seat, feeling a gambit of emotions. I can't believe it's over. I had such a great time with these characters, I'll have to keep an eye out for what Katie releases next.

3.5 ⭐️

Jay’s Silence was a pretty fast-paced read, and at times I found myself wishing for a bit more breathing room after certain events.
That said, I really enjoyed watching the characters grow and getting to know them on a deeper level. Slowly uncovering the layers of the story as it unfolded was one of the aspects I liked most.
Overall, I did enjoy this book. Even though Jay sometimes acted a bit childish — which could be frustrating — it didn’t take away from the experience enough to stop me from appreciating the story as a whole.

I Never Want To Leave This World 🐉✨

So first, I gotta say, one of my favorite things in this story was the fact that Jay could FINALLY talk to her guys 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻😂 I love how that played into the storyline in the first book, but it was so nice to finally see them get to communicate the old fashioned way 😉 I loved seeing Jay’s bonds strengthen with all the guys in this book (whether she wanted them to or not 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️). She truly had such different connections with each one, because each guy was truly different from the other. In my opinion, it is so rare to truly see such different MMCs (no cookie cutter characters here y’all). It made each of them stand out, and it made their relationships with Jay (and each other) stronger I think because of those differences (some connections stronger than others…I was not upset with the ⚔️🥰). Yet it also highlighted how much they overcame to work together so that they could figure things out with what was happening around them & within their own group, and to do what they needed to do to convince Jay that she had found her place by all of their sides if she was willing to accept them. Part of that was their physical connections, and the progress they were finally able to make being with Jay (albeit still not as easy as they would’ve liked 🤷🏻‍♀️). It definitely upped the 🔥🌶️🥵 in this book, and did NOT leave me unsatisfied at all…pretty sure Jay agreed 😝😂 Beyond the relationship dynamics the story tackled, I also loved watching the action as it unfolded & led Jay & the guys on a journey into the “real” world to figure out how to get her powers & memories back, as well as how to fix all the other problems that were surrounding them, which included the ley line issue. Getting all the questions answered in this book was certainly no easy feat, and there were definitely some unexpected surprises & twists among all the chaos that I never saw coming. That just kept me guessing & kept everything exciting along the way though, so no complaints from me 😉 Seeing all of the character growth during their journey, especially from Jay & Tyson (don’t look so shocked that I called you out sir 👀🤦🏻‍♀️😂) was so well done, and it all felt very intentional & necessary to the storyline, yet not overdone or overly dramatic. Overall, this was a duet that I enjoyed way more than I anticipated, and I am so glad that it hit my radar when it did. If you want to go on an adventure that will satisfy your needs when it comes to delivering on plot, character & world development, an emotional roller coaster, mystery & suspense, and all with a well paced romance between 5 imperfect characters…then just stop now & grab this duet, then get to reading (you’re welcome in advance 😉😝). Definitely one of my top 10 favorite reads this year, and I’m so curious to see where Kate is going to take us to next….hopefully somewhere in this amazing world she built for us, because I’m already excited to revisit ❤️

**3.75 for the duet

I think this duet could've been a trilogy with the amount of obstacles that the characters had. There was no rest nor breathing room to be had. I think up to the second half of book 2 there was still no clear answer who the villain is. There were also a lot of unresolved plots in the storyline and there was no epilogue. The author did say that she was leaving it open for maybe a future series.

I liked the plot - there were some parts that were typical in a dragon RH but there were also surprising new takes on it. The FMC is portrayed as someone quite powerful and older (1000 yrs old) but her powers got taken away and was only able to get it back towards the last 3 to 4 chapters, so we weren't able to see how powerful she is. I liked the banter and dialogues between the characters esp. with Tyson's nicknames for Rehan. The main plot revolved around the FMC learning to love herself. There were some spicy scenes but I think one of the main reasons why this wasn't a 5 star read for me was because of the MM. To be fair, I knew going in that there will be MM or more of a fluid take on the harem and for the most part I'm okay with that. But with the way it was written, like the two MMCs felt like there were "exploring" whilst in the harem and without the FMC, I wasn't really sold on that. I get that maybe the author wanted to bring a bit more tension in the relationship but there was no need for it, just cause the FMC causes enough tension in their harem already LOL. So, I think it caused more "issues" and took away from the sincerity of the two MMs, if that makes sense?

Overall, I did like the duet. The fighting and action scenes were well written and the characters had depth. I just wished there was more of an epilogue and maybe a longer part on their resolution of the issues in their relationship.

This book picks up shortly after the first book ended. After making a show at the EM and a mysterious figure talks to Jay, Jay finds herself in a magic blocking prison. After she gets free, Jay and her mates must set out on a journey to stop the demons attacking a fix the ley lines while trying to get Jay her magic back.
I LOVED this book. I couldn’t put it down once I started and definitely missed some sleep to finish it. Jay is definitely one of my favorite heroes. Her inner monologue is funny and yet makes you sad to see how she thinks about herself. I loved her further bonding with her mates. I also loved how this duet has a RH where the men not only don’t get along, but are rivals who despise each other. I loved watching them create their own bond, with Jay in the center. That said, I could give or take MM, I’m not particularly crazy about it as many of the books I’ve read lately seem to have it and to me, it takes away some of the relationship with the heroine. However, I loved how this author did it. It was hawt, not a huge central thing, and the MCs made sure to show that their feelings about it and that their mate bond was solely to Jay. I also loved that the book POVs changed frequently to put you in each MC’s mind so you have to wonder why they did what they did. Still not sure how I feel about Tyson and his justification for what he did in book 1. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I highly recommend if you like these genres.

This is the second book in a duet. You need to have read book 1 first to know what's going on.

So this book picks off where book 1 ended. Jay has her dragon mates and also has her voice back, but not her powers.

This book is longer than I thought it would be. It's all about Jay and her dragons following clues, trying to figure out how to get her powers back, her memory returned, and then work out what's been happening, why, and how to fix it all.

There is a lot of character development and relationship building. Without everything that went on, Jay and her guys wouldn't have been as strong a unit as they ended up being.

Her mates really push Jay to look at herself and how she's been living her life, I enjoyed that this book really delved more into the relationship dynamics. The guys did not know each other or that they may have a poly relationship, and I loved reading how they worked out how things might work and how they could work as a team.

Tyson remains the group toddler with his tantrums, but I absolutely loved all the nicknames he came up with for everyone!

The group still has the 'electric shock' reaction when getting intimate, and there were some interesting solutions to this predicament!

There is a lot going on in this book, lots of action, fights, a mystery to solve, clues to follow, people to help, and relationships to build.

I enjoyed this duet and will be checking out more from this author.

Jay’s Silence picks up right after the conclusion of Silent Jay. It’s become clear that there’s a mage meddling with things around the dragons’ island, and that Jay’s curse is due to something in her forgotten past. Jay and her mates follow the clues to the real world, where there is plenty of evidence that Jay may have done something unconscionable. Can Jay undo the damage of her previous actions, and will that mean undoing the mate bonds between herself and her dragons?

Jay is still the sarcastic, jaded protagonist we know and love from the first book. While she made some inroads in her acceptance of her mates, addressing her previous crimes makes her further convinced that she is not good for her mates. The more they learn, the more she distances herself, which gets a little bit repetitive. The dragons meanwhile, are struggling to understand how to make the multiple mate-ship work. As the five become more intimate, Jay has to come to grips with the realities of her mate’s feelings as well as her own.

Jay’s Silence is the perfect conclusion to The Worst Guide to Collecting Dragons Duology, as it has major character growth for all five main characters. Jay matures emotionally and learns to love herself. Even Tyson, my least favorite character from the first book, matures and becomes a more insightful person. A very satisfying ending to a very enjoyable duology.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I just finished Jay's Silence: The Worst Guide to Collecting Dragons by Kate Messick, and wow… what a wild ride! I went in expecting a reverse harem urban fantasy with a touch of eroticism, and Messick delivered in spades. Jay’s journey to reclaim her powers while juggling four impossibly alluring dragon shifters had me completely hooked. The dynamic between them isn’t simple or sugar-coated, which I really appreciated it felt messy, real, and intense.

The road trip across three continents added such a great layer of adventure and suspense. Each encounter from her past kept me on the edge of my seat, and the way the author wove Jay’s fragmented memory with her dangerous magical missteps made the story feel high-stakes and unpredictable. I loved the pacing; it was medium to fast burn, just as promised, and I found myself constantly flipping pages, desperate to see what happened next.

If I have a small critique, it’s that this book is definitely not for the faint of heart or those who want a clear-cut “happily ever after.” The relationships are complicated and the erotic content is very explicit (knotting included), but if you’re into dark, messy, and passionate urban fantasy with dragons, this is a must-read.

Messick really knows how to blend fantasy, heat, and emotional depth Jay’s struggles, both with herself and her dragons, felt surprisingly relatable amidst all the chaos. Honestly, I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series.

Once again, I find myself reviewing my own book, and I love it. Of course, it deserves five stars; I know how much time, effort, and thought went into it. Even better, it is exactly what I like to read: smut, plot, and fantasy, all pulled together by a woman who needs to save herself.

My personal notes on it: I am very happy with how I tied everything together. I really wanted Jay's Silence to feel like an epic journey where the tables were flipped. Instead of Jay being in the dragon's world, they were in hers. I read so many RH books where the woman is stranded in a word she doesn't understand. I LOVE THEM don't get me wrong, but I want to add something a little different to our shelves.

I love my pacing in this book. Where I feel Silent Jay suffered from two dips I just couldn't write my way out of, Jay's Silence is a whirlwind that doesn't stop. More than any other book I've written, Jay's story truly encompasses both her physical and emotional elements: from the island echoing her internal struggles to the guys both leaving their mark on her soul while accepting her for who she is.

The epilogue sets us up either for a sequel from the current POVs OR possibly a new series about .... well I shouldn't tell you here. You'll have to keep an eye on my socials to see what I work on next.

Silent Jay was the first book I read by this author, and she got me hooked. I couldn't wait to start book 2, and she definitely didn't disappoint.

This book picks up where we left off. From there, Jay has her mates, her voice, but not her powers. She suspected her mate bonds were a lie, and now she's got proof. She has to fix her magic less situation, free her "mates" from their false mate bond, and fix the ley lines that initially jump-started her entire adventure. All this while trying to figure out her memories and righting past mistakes of which there seems to be plenty.

You guys, this book! It kept me turning the pages into the early morning hours, just needing to know what happened next. I loved Jay and her men. I can't pick a favorite among them because I really liked them all for different reasons. There is a lot going on in this book, but don't worry, there are still some very good spicy scenes.

The guys have such good character growth, and their dynamic settles into a more cohesive unit. Jay, on the other hand, struggled with not only accepting her mates after trying to break the bonds she believes are a lie but letting them in. There was definitely a point where I wanted to reach into the book and shake some sense into her. I'm glad to say everything works out for them. It just takes a bit to get there.

Good book, with plenty of opportunity for more.
This is the second book in the Worst Guide to Collecting Dragons series, following Jay and her dragon mates as they try to save the world from a power hungry god. They also have to save Jay from herself, because that girl just doesn’t see her value at all. I think that’s one of the reasons she resonated with me. The theme of her journey can be summed up with this simple quote:

‘“You deserve love,” Og said again. My heart cracked. I deserved love. I knew that, didn’t I?’

This one definitely has plenty of that epic journey to save the world action going on—but the true journey was Jay learning to love herself, so she could truly find happiness. There is a lot left unanswered though, and that bothered me a bit. She’s immortal, are her mates still mortal or not? I’d hate for her to have had to go through all this and still only get a lifetime with them.

The author left it open for more from this world, or possibly an epilogue. There are enough unanswered questions I think I’d like to see that.

This book has sword crossing, and romantic entanglements between some of the men as well as with Jay. She is their emotional center though.

It’s well written, pretty well paced as well. I just wish a few more questions had been answered.

Jay’s Silence by Kate Messick is book two in The Worst Guide to Collecting Dragons. I was eager to read this book after reading the first book. That being said you must read the books in order as this one picks up after the first book. My poor kindle got a workout as I spent hours with it in my hands as I didn’t want to stop reading. I really enjoyed the direction this book took on, about Jay learning to accept herself and the situations she finds herself in. As well as the dragons/mates learning and understanding how to deal with having multiple mates and all the feelings/emotions involved. I really enjoyed the multi POV’s but I found Jay’s to be funny at times and other times relating to how she thought and felt about herself. I really felt my heart swell as she learned to love herself and gaining her voice/strength. The growth and maturity in this book was great to read. I thought the book was so well written and I was engaged reading it the whole time. The development was well done that even my opinion changed regarding my least favorite character. I would highly recommend this book if you enjoy a well developed plot that has a why choose romance and great characters. Overall had a wonderful reading experience with these books.

I would give this a 3.5/4

I absolutely LOVED Silent Jay, I was sucked into the world and couldn't wait for what was next.

While there are things about Jays Silence I enjoyed, I felt it feel flat in comparison to the first book. The story line was drawn out far too long, and in some areas it was tough to follow. Jay's inner monologue this time became tedious more than anything, less fun. I found Jay to be my least favorite character this time around; her constant running away and disbelief in herself went from a character flaw that could be redeemed to a silly girl who was rather tedious to read about.

I did enjoy where all of the dragons came together for the greater good, it was a plot line that I had hoped would happen and wasn't sure would manifest. I was happy to see that come to fruition and gave the dragons and more redeemable story - I wish we would have seen more of this and less of Jay's struggles. Tyson got his well-deserved come back, though he still has a temper and alot of work to do on his future self, I didn't feel the need to shake him so much anymore.

Overall, It had an enjoyable ending and I was glad to see Jay and all of her mates stay together in the end.

Book two picks up with Jaiyana aka Jay is still trying to find her lost memories and her magic, along with not opening her heart and allowing herself to believe she is a good person and deserves the love of her dragon mates. She tells herself that the dragons are just tools to help her solve her problems and save the magical Ley Lines The story takes many twists and turns, landing them in Ireland, Malta, and Africa. As Tyson, Ogden, Rehan, and Lux learn to work together as a team not easy for the dragons since they tend to be so territorial. Jay's conversations with herself are just as funny, heartbreaking, and sarcastic with much more depth as she starts to understand herself and her needs. As she is trying to solve her own personal problems and save the Ley Lines, she runs into Caoimhe and Tenzin a mated couple who had made a deal with Gorm to help them be together she takes on their problem. You will need to read the story to see how she solves their problem, hers and her mates and the wild ride to save not only the Ley Lines but the dragon's Island as well. This story is not one that lets you down.

Absolutely loved this!!!

This is the second book in the Worst Guide to Collecting Dragons series. I absolutely loved Jay and her 4 elemental dragons. They are so addictive and at times, I just wanted to throttle Jay for being too much in her own head and not accepting them (although her inner commentary was friggin hilarious).

Jay's Hail Mary at the end of the first book didn't end up quite as she thought and now she's stuck in a strange dragon prison. With the help of two of her mates, she escapes but now she discovers that Lux has been recaptured by his father, so they work out a way to rescue him.... Except gnarly demons start dropping from the Ley Lines so they all have to figure out exactly what all is happening since she has recovered some of her memories but still has large chunks missing.

Jay, lux, Ogden, Tyson and Rehan end up going on a crazy journey to Ireland, England, under-England and other places to try to track her steps. And the absolute worst thing that she could have done, she did ... Except she doesn't understand why and how.

This book was fantastic! Can't wait to read more from this author!

The second book in this series was slower to read and in pacing, and sometimes confusing, despite having more focus on action than on relationship development (which was more dominant in book one). Jay got back her voice, but not her powers, and the ending of book one created quite the mess in Jay's life. Now that she wants to uncover the mystery of what happened, get her powers and memories back, Jay has to follow clues to figure out where the root cause of the problem lies. She ends up in lots of trouble, as usual, but there is a chance to redemption for everyone.
Although I have to say I got annoyed at Jay's inner monologue sometimes, and would have thought she would be more mature considering her real age, the memory loss grants her forgiveness, and I actually had fun watching the drama of her life unfold, so all in all good for me. I was happy to see more of the dragons (though I still have a tiny issue with Tyson's temper), enjoyed watching it come all together, and solving the mystery. There were no loose ends left, and the book was spiced with some hot scenes too :) All in all a bit longer than expected but still an enjoyable read.

I didn't want this book to finish since I truly enjoyed it so much. Jay's Silence has flaming sensuality, attractive characters, and a captivating placing that had me turning the pages. Tense action, heart-stopping romantic moments, and captivating characters who endure long after the novel ends may all be found in Jay's Silence. All of that is contained within a vivid, captivating universe that has enchantment that the reader can actually feel.
.
I haven't read anything like this urban fantasy in a very long time. It is full of magic, dragon shifters, and a grand, cross-continental adventure. The main character, Jay, is funny, strong, and imperfect in the greatest kind of ways. She is juggling her difficult, emotional relationships with her four dragon shifter partners while trying to regain her abilities. And believe me when I say that there is electrifying chemistry between them.
.
You feel drawn in by the Author's writing style, particularly the way she gives each character a unique voice. The plot is made more riveting by the way it allows you to go inside everyone's thoughts and understand why they behave the way they do. They all center on Jay, though, and their relationships are anything from normal in spite of all the trouble! There are fiction that absolutely blow your mind every now and again, and this is one of those books!

I was so disappointed by Jay’s Silence after loving the first book so much! I felt like Jay’s Silence was so drawn out, long, and convoluted. It was hard to follow at times. Some details were tedious, but other, bigger plot lines just magically appeared without the leap from point A to point B. I loved how all of the dragons came together, but I wish we would’ve had more of that versus all the confusing mess Jay had got into. I think Tyson got his well-deserved redemption arc, even though he still has a temper. I didn’t think Jay’s inner monologues were as funny this time around. In fact, I really didn’t care for Jay at all. At some point, her running and hiding and not believing in herself went from being a redeemable character flaw to annoying. I also thought this book was quite sloppy; tons of typos, sentences that should’ve been combined with a comma instead of a period (think: Jay did this. While Tyson did this), and just general editing mistakes, like incorrect names.

I received an ARC of Silent Jay from BookSirens. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Picking up where book 1 ended Jay found her voice but still didn't have her magic. This story takes Jay and her Dragon Mates on a wild goose chance to find the one responsible for cursing her and leaving her on the island inhabited by dragons.

Although I was a fan of book 1; book 2 didn't give me the same feels. Was there spice? Yes, Witty Banter? Yes OTT Possessive Dragons? Yes. Was there danger and violence? Yes.

Honestly the thing that made me disconnect with the story was Jay's constant insecurities and self loathing.

Her mates decided to stand by her to help her find answers that would lead to the recovery of her memories so that she can right the wrong that has put the magical world in turmoil but no matter how much her men tried to help her she constantly pushed them away.

There were so many moving parts that at times the book seemed to be all over the place and Jay's attitude didn't make things easier.

Overall this was a good duology but something was missing and I can't quite figure out what.

Ending the Curse . . .

Gaining consciousness on a tropical island at the bottom of a deep pit with a barred hole at the top, a murder hole, Jaiyana (“Jay”) contemplates her fate. She had four dragon mates, convinced their emotions were not real as she touched her mate marks, her memories recalling the image of pain in Rehan’s gaze, unease in Ogden, confusion in Lux, and pure anger in Tyson. Under a curse, she has succeeded in recovering her voice and vision, but when she tried to call for her magic flame, nothing happened. She needs to get her memories back. Despite her mates trying to work together and help her, she tries to keep them away, believing their bond is fake. Will their love and the trust being built up be what helps her restore what she needs? Will she finally open her heart to them? And can she fix whatever damage she had done that she can’t remember? Grab your copy and watch for the changes they all go through to make them better as they grow closer. Will they remain together, or will they go their separate ways in the end?

Wow so the first book left me with so many questions that I just jumped strait into this one and could not put it down. I absolutely enjoyed reading mor about Jay and her four dragon elementals Tyson, Og, Lux and Ryhan. In this second book Kay can finally speak but she is still trying to figure out what happened and why she does t have her magic. As we get further into the story we start getting clues and eventually we finally learn who is behind it and more of the mystery starts to unfold until we get to the end and everything is finally explained. I’m not sure if you could call Jays ending in this book a HEA but she is loving her life with her dragons and it seems they are finally learning to get along. It took some time and not only were the guys stubborn but she was just as bad. I’m happy though that they could work things out and be able to work as a group. It was an enjoyable read and would recommend it to someone looking for dragon shifters, jealous possessive over the too guys, elemental magic, shifters, who he’s and mages.

This was an amazing and satisfying end to this duet.

This is a fairly long book which will probably please those readers that dislike a series broken down into 4 or 5 books. It is instead told in 2 quite lengthy parts so I couldn't read it all in one sitting despite how much I wanted to!

This second part of the duet was all I could have hoped for and more. Now that Jay had her voice back her magic was still eluding her. And who was that strange man that appeared claiming he had gifted her dragons? And would her four elemental dragons ever be able to overcome their distrust and dislike of each other!

This was an exciting and eventful conclusion. We were taken on an adventure of battles with demons, witness Jay take on old adversaries and watch as the four men/dragons evolved into working as a team. The character development was amazing, all the characters had become so much more by the end of the story and it was interesting to see how the relationships blossomed into real love and respect.

I highly recommend this book and I am sure I will read it again in the future

*I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review*

That was some scrumptious character development if I do say so myself. I really enjoyed how each of the five main characters clearly had their own unique struggles to overcome in this book. At the end of the first book, they were all still very self-centered and a happy ending as a cohesive unit seemed like a pipe dream. Through a number of trials and tribulations that frequently had me on the edge of my seat, they slowly morphed into a deeply bonded and developed group, something which can often be difficult to achieve in poly romance books.

I also really enjoyed the expanded world building in this book. We got to see what life was like in the supernatural world outside of the dragon’s island and dive much deeper into how magic works in this universe. A delightful and engaging read that I can definitely picture myself returning to in the future.

Jays Silence follows shortly after the first book ended with Jay locked in a magical prison. Able to now talk, she still doesn't have her memories or her magic. As we read about her adventure to fix the lay lines, try to recover her magic and stop the demons, we watch as Jays relationships with her four dragons get closer and stronger. I loved that the guys don't give up on Jay despite all her attempts to push them away and convince herself they all must still be under a spell. It was amusing reading all the names Tyson came up with for everyone, especially for Rehan.
I did find this book a bit harder to follow along with than the first. At times, it seemed like the storyline dragged along or I would get lost in it completely, and not understand what was going on or how we got to that point.
Loved the spice levels as always and the dynamic of everyone towards the end. Overall a good book and great duet!

In the first book the focus was on the relationships between the protagonist and the male dragons. This book focuses on action. While a fast paced novel can definitely keep a reader interested, this book seems to lose some of its momentum. I appreciate that the first book had mystery and that this book involved solving the mystery.

However, my favorite aspect of the first book was the distinctive personalities of each dragon. In having so many action packed scenes and jumping from one setting to another, I feel the author did not give the characters as much detail. Additionally, in getting such scenes filled with excitement the writing at times could be confusing.

On a different note, I appreciate the author made sure to address all issues in this novel. As well as create a series that very much highlights the importance of self acceptance.

Overall the series is enjoyable and quite spicy at times.

I received an advance review copy for free and this is my honest review.

While reading the first book I became obsessed with this series. I fell in love with it so quickly, and Jays Silence didn’t change that. I I enjoyed seeing her men start to actually come together as a team instead of infighting, and seeing their inner monologues change in accordance with that cohesive group acceptance. It was also fun to see them actually see the world beyond their little island.
Jays part in the book is a whole other story though. Seeing how little she thought of herself and how much she fought the bonds with the dragons bc of it broke my heart. Watching the dragons slowly but surely change that, even if by a minuscule amount at first, made my little heart happy.
And seeing all of it come together for the final battle and how it all played out, made all the distress and heartache I felt over their interactions and inner monologues worth it. They were such a cohesive team and worked together flawlessly.

Jay and her dragon shifters are back in the second book of this duo series, The Worst Guide to Collecting Dragons! With her voice back, Jay is learning more about this world, her men and herself through the twists and turns of their adventure to save, well, everybody! Now that Jay has her voice back, it was interesting to see how she would interact with each of her guys. Obviously using your voice is one of the easiest forms of communication, so seeing that dynamic in book 1 with her unable to use it was super unique, but I am glad that ultimately we were able to get more depth of interactions now that her voice is back. Not to mention, the heat between her and the dragon shifters was off the charts! I would love to travel back into this world and see these characters again, but even if we don't, this was a great end to the duo reads.

Book two starts straight off from where book one ended, and Jay went out with somewhat of a bang when it came to the EM. She has her voice, but no powers and the only way she can think of getting them back so she can get back to her life is epically shot down by her mates.

Tyson drove me absolutely crazy again in this story. I admit I spent a lot of the time wanting to smack him upside the head for being such a child. Luckily we have the other guys to make up for his behaviour, especially Lux who I have totally fallen in love with.

This book takes us away from the secret island of the dragons and have Jay and her mates hopping around the globe to find out what's really going on and how she was cursed. It was a good wrap up and I do wonder if the author may possibly revisit these characters in the future.
