He thought he was rescuing her from the Comanche. Now the Civil War soldier must prove he isn't the villain she thinks he is.
Driven by the looming expectation of becoming a suffocatingly proper lady, Morning Fawn is determined to escape the confines of her uncle’s plantation and return to her adoptive Comanche tribe. But with each failed attempt, her hopes dwindle, and she wonders if she'll ever find her way back home or if that world is forever lost to her.
Devon Reynolds, disillusioned by the price of affluence and the horrors of war, leaves his privileged life to join the Texas Rangers and later the cavalry. In the military service, he finds purpose . . . until he loses his wife during childbirth while he is away. In an attempt to redeem himself, he takes one last fateful mission to rescue Morning Fawn from the Comanche. But the results force him to question the righteousness of his actions and the cause he serves.
When Devon returns to Texas as a Yankee spy, his path crosses with Morning Fawn once more. Determined to save her from the prison of her uncle's house and to recover Texas from the Confederacy, Devon is drawn to her fierce spirit and unwavering resolve. But can two wounded souls, each fighting their own battles, find solace and love amidst the chaos of war?

I was so excited to get back to this series today!
Book two is set in 1863 Texas and features the sister of the heroine in book one. You may remember that these Logan girls were taken by the Comanche, adopted and raised in their ways. In fact, Beth Logan lived as Morning Fawn for nine years before being found, ripped from her new family by kidnapping, and taken to live on her uncle’s estate. When we first meet Morning Fawn, she’s been at her uncle’s ranch for the past 17 months since her kidnapping, and we discover that she hasn’t been treated very well.
The hero, who actually turns out to be her kidnapper, arrives at her uncle's, sees his mistake, and attempts to save Morning Fawn. First Texas U.S. Cavalryman Lieutenant Devon Reynolds immediately captured my heart with his concern for Morning Fawn. He has his work cut out for him in trying to convince Morning Fawn to trust him. I went mushy when I discovered that he wore Isabelle’s locket! You’ll have to read to find out who she is.
The main theme of this sequel is belonging and both main characters demonstrate that ‘home’ isn’t necessarily a place, but being together. The author also explores choices and shows us that even when we discover we’ve made the wrong choice, it’s what we do next that counts. Morning Fawn has to choose between what she’s always wanted - land to call her own - and love.
Sherry Shindelar’s writing is beautiful. I highlighted the following quote as it demonstrates the wonderful imagery and ‘showing not telling’ that’s so prevalent in her writing.
“The Lord will be with us. Keep telling your mind and your heart that until it takes root.”
How I love the faith that is being fanned into flame at this point in Texas Divided by Sherry Shindelar! But so much action, so much emotion, so much war comes before this point.
Beth Logan, niece of a Texas cotton planter, has been kidnapped from the Comanche by bounty hunter Devon Reynolds. Taken by the Comanche when she was young, Beth has adopted their ways and lifestyle, including the name, Morning Fawn. The settlers’ way of life is odious and restricting, and she hates her uncle’s family for forcing it upon her. But even more, she hates Devon, the one who captured her and delivered her to his uncle.
As Morning Fawn is constantly looking for an escape to the Comanche life she had grown to love, she is rejected and punished by society. Her uncle ( LeBeau) uses extreme force and cruelty to try to bend her will to his. As Devon sees how cruel LeBeau is, he wonders if he did the wrong thing in capturing Morning Fawn. Now a spy for the Northern army, tasked with stopping cotton from being exchanged for weapons for the South, Devon begins to be entranced by the feisty maiden who is so different from the usual Southern belle.
“I’m going to get you out of here someday, Morning Fawn. The moon will be yours for the taking.” While Devon works for LeBeau as a front for his spying, he begins to interfere with LeBeau’s extreme control and cruelty towards the people on his land. Morning Fawn herself can have more freedom than in the past if she acts like LeBeau wants her to and chooses a wealthy Southern planter to wed. How badly does Morning Fawn want her freedom? What kind is understanding do she and Devon develop? The story is layered with action, intrigue, and romance. Then, at its worst, we see Faith beginning to bloom and spread from the most unlikely of places. The people who are treated the most unfairly!
I love Shindelar’s writing style. So many times I had to stop to reread a beautifully phrased sentence or re-enjoy a great word picture. I am hoping for another book soon!
You won’t be able to put this adventurous Civil War novel down until you’ve devoured the last word!
I received a copy of the book from JustRead Tours. I also bought my own copy of the book. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
Notable Quotables:
““If giving her the land buys her a settled, respectable life, so be it.” Could land really buy all of that? What about love?”
“Maybe the Lord had not forgotten her. Maybe He’d been reaching out to her all along. Waiting for her to turn her heart to Him.”
“A body can do a bushel of harm without ever meaning to.”
“he’d squash any hint of romance. Sometimes the most loving thing to do was to walk away.”
“There’d be no way to keep Morning Fawn uninvolved now that she knew. It’d be like shooting off the starting pistol at a race and telling a Thoroughbred not to gallop.”
“I used to ride toward the sunset as far and as fast as I could. You took the sunset. Now I have nothing.”
Texas Divided by Sherry Shindelar is book two in the Lone Star Redemption series and it tells the story of Morning Fawn (Beth Logan), the sister of Eyes-Like-Sky (Maggie Logan) from book one. Both sisters had been kidnapped by the Comanche Indians and held captive for years. When Texas Divided opens, Morning Fawn has been rescued and been living on her uncle’s Texas plantation for a number of months. But years spent adapting to and embracing life with the Comanche, has left Morning Fawn feeling the opposite of rescued and life with her uncle is anything but free. Devon who was hired by her uncle to rescue her has returned on a secret mission for the Union army. As he gets to know Morning Fawn, he wants to help her gain true freedom.
The author has such a way with words. She draws the reader in from the start and is able to eloquently express the inner turmoil both characters feel throughout the story. I really enjoyed watching Morning Fawn and Devon interact with each other and seeing their tenuous relationship strengthen. I loved that Devon never saw her wild spirit as something to be tamed or broken as so many around her thought. But instead he saw her wild, untamed spirit as something unique and beautiful to her. Even at times he was the brunt of her unchecked spirit and words.
Hope to see more of these sisters in future books. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. No positive review was required. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Texas Divided has well-researched historical details that enrich the story and bring it to life. Vivid descriptions of the activities during the Civil War are woven throughout.
The characters are well-developed, with lots of layers and surprises that caught my attention from the beginning. The love story had its ups and downs, complicated by the war and Morning Fawn's reluctance to conform to her uncle's demands. Her life story is heartbreaking but inspiring because of her courage and determination to make her own decisions.
The story is about the redemption of both main characters, forgiveness, and their belief in God, to not give up when things seemed hopeless. This must-read will keep you guessing how it will end.
I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.
Enjoyable read. I wish that the 1st book was tied in more, hopefully the sisters will be reunited in book 3. Even though it is in POV of the love interests eyes (not my favorite since it makes it more predictable) it was well written. The story def they keeps attention and such different history, I never thought about Texas during the civil war.
When I saw there was a second book coming out, I could not wait to read it. I loved the first one and this second one is just as goood! They are such fast reads and you just really connect with the main character. Morning Fawn was taken from her adoptive Comanche tribe and will do just about anything to escape her uncle's plantation and get back to the life she enjoyed. But with each attempt, she puts herself more and more under watch and laudanum dosages. Her uncle is determined to assimilate her back into "normal" life and hopefully marriage to someone who will help advance their family name. When Devon, the man who had taken her from her Comanche tribe, shows up looking for work she can hardly believe it. How dare he try to act as if he has done nothing wrong? But as he sees what goes on with Morning Fawn, he does start to step in to make things better for Morning Fawn. Devon gets her uncle to give Morning Dawn a little more freedom, but there is some trade offs. She must marry someone of upstanding and she will then inherit the land of her mother and can do as she pleases with it. But the man courting her, has his own motive and will do all he can to get her hand in marriage, and Devon now sees where he went wrong in some of these choices and decides he will do all he can to save her from the mess he created. This story was so well written, I didn't want to put it down. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Texas Divided by Sherry Schindelar is the second book in the Lone Star Redemption series. This is a nicely written Christian historical romance story that takes place during the civil war. While not having read the first in the series, I was able to easily read and understand this story. This story focuses on Morning Star, a young lady that was taken captive by the Comanche years earlier, and Yankee spy, Devon, who was hired by her uncle to capture her and return her home. This is an enjoyable story to read and left me feeling sorry for all that Morning Star has to endure due to her uncle's actions. Morning Star and Devon are such strong, determined characters. While they both are grieving their loss, they continue to work for the good of others and help others. I like how realistic this story is, it is so easy to imagine the tension as the dangers surround the characters. I appreciate how Morning Star struggles with her faith, yet remembers how strong her mother's was. This is a wonderful story of doing everything you can, even putting yourself in danger, to help others. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this story, this is my honest review.
Devon and Morning Fawn definitely face manny hardships and heartaches. They both have determination and grit to see things change. They have an unconventional relationship and romance. The history portrayed in the plot was well-researched and shows how people and families were divided during the War. There is a faith element involved for both Devon and Morning Fawn as they learn to give control of the future over to God Who is the One Who can work things out right.
The one downside for this story for me was the disrespect shown to woman and other people by those in authority. I fully realize that this was an accepted part of the society in that era and that prejudices were in full force. This just made the story harder for me to read. This is not a slight toward the author and her work; it is just a personal preference.
I received a complimentary copy and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.
I absolutely love Native American culture and the Civil War, so this book was just for me. I liked the first book, but I loved this one even more. I found Morning Fawn a more likable character.
The beginning was a little slow for me (and I HATED the Lebeaus) but Morning Fawn and Devon kept me invested. The chemistry felt natural and I loved the enemies to lovers aspects. Morning Fawn cracked me up with her spunk. I love how Devon gave up because there was no way to handle her. 🤣
The ending was full of twists and turns, and I was on the edge of my seat! I highly recommend this book!
Wow, oh wow! I devoured this book. Couldn't put it down. It's a page turner. I love Morning Fawn's spunk and the romance that blooms between her and Devon. Utterly beautiful and skillful writing. Bravo!
The Lone Star Redemption series continues with this captivating, emotion-packed Civil War Era story featuring heroine Morning Fawn aka Beth Logan, an unpredictable, determined former Commanche captive, and hero Captain Devon Reynolds an honorable, courageous Yankee spy and former Texas Ranger. The fast paced, skillfully designed plot lured me in quickly and kept me engrossed for the duration of the story. I am a big fan of Civil War Era stories but had not read any set in Texas that explore the pivotal role of cotton in the war effort which made this story especially inviting. The author does an amazing job of weaving authentic historical details into the fictional story which enhance the setting, bring the story to life, and educate as well as entertain. Well-crafted, memorable characters drive the plot forward and keep you invested in their journey. I appreciate the valuable faith lessons on forgiveness and trusting God even when we don’t understand His ways. Ms. Shindelar is truly a gifted storyteller, and I look forward to the next book in the series Texas Reclaimed. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I read the first book in this series and looked forward to this second book since I was fascinated by the premise of it. Sometimes, taking children back from the Indian culture they have now grown accustomed to and returning them to the "white man's" ways isn't always best for them. Such is what happens with Morning Fawn or "Beth" as she was once known. She only remembers snatches of her birth parents after they were killed and then raised by the Comanche Indians. She doesn't appreciate being returned to her mother's family by Devon Reynolds. She wants to continue living with the Comanche and continues to try to escape every chance she gets! Devon can't believe it when he takes on a secret mission for the Yankees as a spy during the Civil War into Confederate territory and runs across Morning Fawn again. His heart is still broken after the death of his wife and unborn child years before which is why he decides to fight for the Yankees and take on a dangerous mission. However, he doesn't anticipate having to live in the same house as Morning Fawn and her uncle's family while he tries to destroy the cotton route of the Confederates. Devon was my favorite character. I loved his goodness and sense of duty. He tried to do the right thing, no matter what situation came up or how many times things changed that he couldn't control! I wanted him to succeed in all facets of his life and was rooting for him! Morning Fawn was also a great character. She was impetuous, feisty and loyal to those who treated her with compassion. She was treated horribly by so many, but she kept on going. What courage she had! I loved how she depended on God when she'd only just learned about Him. So Strong! Very well researched and great story line!
I absolutely loved Morning Fawn. She is a fierce young woman who has been treated like a prisoner by her uncle. All she wants to do is go back to her people which she is calls home. She is rescued due to her uncle, but why? She seemed so happy where she was. When she is offered land by her uncle if she marries a suitable soldier she decides this is her way to freedom.
Devon has suffered a great loss but takes on another mission thinking he is saving a young woman. To his dismay he finds out that Morning Fawn really needs to be freed from her uncle. It was subtle but I saw the signs that he was interested in her especially after he saw how she has been treated. My stars why was she locked in the attic and given sleeping medicine? Why is it so important to keep Morning Fawn a prisoner? I like how Devon deems himself the rescuer and finds a way to help Morning Fawn.
I liked how the author talked about slavery and showed how they were mistreated. Devon and Morning Fawn both want to help them escape , but at what cost? Tensions run high as a secret mission takes place to unite a sweet couple before one of them is sold. Can Morning Fawn and Devon pull it off?
There is danger in the story when Devon takes on a mission as he continues as a spy. His character grows throughout the book which illustrates trust, humility and protection. Morning Fawn has barriers up but you can tell that she starts to let bitterness go. I loved reading how the author not only brings us historical facts but a story rich in faith.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
What happens when the person you thought you rescued is more of a prisoner than before? That is the reality that hits Devon Reynolds when he returns back to Texas as a Yankee spy. The young woman whom he thought he rescued from the Comanche, Beth also known as Morning Fawn, is a prisoner on her uncle's plantation. She is always threatened with drugs and being put into an asylum if she does not control herself, except that she just wants to go back to her Comanche family. She is determined, but she is always caught when she tries to escape.
Devon has been through a lot, like the death of his wife and unborn child. If he can help Morning Fawn while helping the Yankees he will do all he can. The Civil War has been going on for a while and I found it interesting how important cotton was to Texas. It was like gold and the Confederates needed it desperately.
Morning Fawn is a strong woman. She lets her feelings sometimes take control, but I was rooting for her to get out of the situation she found herself in. I am not sure she would have continued to thrive in her Comanche family, but she certainly wasn't with her uncle's. I am glad Devon worked so hard to rectify his mistake.
This story was atmospheric of the Texas culture back then with plenty of danger, extending forgiveness, and the chance to begin anew when the opportunity arose. This was a great addition to this series.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.
Heads up, this is book two in the series. And this is one where I will say you absolutely must read book one first. It’s not just recommended here. In book one, Devon rescues Morning Fawn from the Comanche. Only she identifies as Comanche and has a life there. It’s all she knows.
Morning Fawn keeps trying to escape her Uncle’s farm and return to her people. But she’s not successful. She’s having to face a different reality and decide how to proceed.
Devon is feeling disillusioned. He’s not sure what’s right or wrong anymore. Or who is right and who is wrong, either. It’s a world divided during the Civil War.
He’s back in Texas as a spy, and he’s still intrigued by Morning Fawn and confused a bit about his role in her life. Because he brought her out of what he thought was captivity, but what she has now, she feels is captivity. It’s complicated.
I love the love story! I love that there are ups and downs and flaws and hills to overcome. Add in that I always love a good Civil War novel, and this one has lots of complexities. The characters are amazing, and you’ll be drawn into them and their stories.
Five stars. Highly recommend. Would read again.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this boo,k which I received from JustRead Publicity Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. Texas Divided by Sherry Shindelar is a Christian Historical Romance. This second book in the Lone Star Redemption series centers around Devon Reynolds and Morning Fawn. Devon believed he was rescuing Morning Fawn from the Comanche and returning her to a family who loves her. However, Morning Fawn struggles with the control and ill-treatment of her uncle and his family.
When Devon returns to her uncle’s plantation, he comes partially to check on Morning Fawn but more specifically as a Yankee spy. I love the dynamics the author creates between Beth (Morning Fawn) and Devon. Suffering from the pain of losing his wife and unborn child during childbirth, Devon struggles to find purpose and healing.
Meanwhile, Morning Fawn tries to escape her uncle’s home to return to the Comanche. But with each failed attempt, she loses a little more hope that she will be able to escape. The depth of emotion the author brings out in the pages of this book will draw you in and keep you reading.
As the second book in the Lone Star Redemption series, I believe this book could stand on its own. However, you may want to read the first book, Texas Forsaken first that tells the story of Beth’s sister known as Eyes-Like-Sky. You can read my review of it here.
So if you want a Christian Historical Romance, check out Texas Divided by Sherry Shindelar.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
I have never read anything by Sherry Shindelar before, OMG this was fantastic!!! This will get you hooked from the very first page! Even though I did not read the first book in the series, I had no trouble following the story. (I will be going back to read book one). Beth Logan (Morning Fawn), was raised on a Comanche Indian Reservation; her mother died when she was a child. Beth was kidnapped from the reservation, by Devon Reynolds and brung to her mother's mother's house. They want to refine her and married to a wealthy gentleman. This is the last thing Beth wants; she wants her moccasins, deerskin dress and to return to the reservation. She escapes every chance she gets; she is an excellent horsewoman. Each escape gets locked in the attic for days or weeks at a time; by her Aunt Judith and Uncle Robert . Lieutenant Devon Reynolds is a Unionist, given the job to spy. He gets a job working for Robert LeBeau (Beth's Uncle), a large cotton grower; he is trying to destroy the cotton route of the Confederates. Can he succeed or is he captured? With Devon living in the LeBeau house, he becomes friends with Beth at times. Can he help her escape? The story is well researched, the characters well developed, and an amazing love story . Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Sherry Shindelar!!!!
Christian Historical Romance is one of my favorite genres. Texas Divided by Sherry Shindelar is Book 2 in the Lone Star Redemption Series. I read this first book in this series and have been anxiously awaiting Book 2.
WOW, this book reeled me in from the beginning. The setting of the book is 1873 in Eastern Texas. The 2 main characters of this book are Morning Fawn and Devon Reynolds . Morning Fawn, originally Beth Logan, has been a part of the Comanche tribe for 9 years after he mom died. Devon Reynolds was paid by her uncle to kidnap her back and bring her to live with her Grandma after 9yrs. Devon soon realizes that Morning Fawn is not being treated well by her Uncle and he wants to help her get out of the situation. Devon becomes a spy for her Uncle and that is how Devon and Morning Fawn begin a friendship and eventually take a liking to one another. Devon and Morning Fawn have to fully put their trust in the Lord to make the escape to safety for Morning Fawn. The book is about Trusting the Lord, Forgiveness and Romance. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Romance! WONDERFUL BOOK!
Morning Fawn is a force to be reckoned with and gives a new definition to ‘never give up, never surrender’. I felt enraptured as I was reading this historical fiction. There are moments that are full of hope and others that make you feel like all hope is lost. I found myself getting lost in the story, my emotions ebbing and flowing right along with the characters.
Being a born and bred Texan, I appreciated all of the geographical references to my home state and loved how amazing this story flows, the writing pretty close to perfection. I appreciate seeing a true glimpse into the past, flaws and all, no matter how hard it is to read at times.
While this can be read as a standalone, as the author does a wonderful job of catching the reader up on past events, I do feel like it’s more impactful when you read the first book in the series first as it adds so much more depth.
Highly recommend this novel and the Lone Star Redemption series as a whole.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
Exquisite blend of history and romance! How has this author escaped my notice? Her prose is full of vivid descriptions that pull the reader into the story, leaving the real world behind for awhile. Her historical detail is well-researched. Loved that I gleaned a little bit of knowledge I did not previously know. Ms. Shindelar held my attention with a well-paced plot, full of action, and characters who were developed with a subtle pen. After being kidnapped from the tribe she had called family during years of captivity, Morning Fawn wrestles with her reintegration into the society of white cotton planters in East Texas. She also struggles to trust Devon, who at one time was her captor, but now pledges to help her attain true freedom. I love the way Ms. Shindelar skillfully pens the inner turmoil both characters feel as the story is told from both POV. This is a compelling story of sacrifice and redemption, one of loss and hope, one of courage and love. Impossible to put down.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is book two in the Lone Star Redemption series and was so worth the wait as book one captivated me and this one didn’t disappoint. This had me invested from beginning to end and it felt like the characters were people you knew. I cried multiple times over the abuse Morning Fawn indured from her uncle . I loved her spirit and her growth throughout the story. The historical details were well researched and although it was a sad and difficult time the author gives hope in the darkness. I loved the sweet romance that developed between Devon and Morning Fawn aka Beth Logan as they learned to trust and open their hearts. There is intrigue that keeps you guessing as to how it will be resolved which adds depth to the story. This author has a way of drawing you into the realm of the story and leaving you wanting more. I’m anxiously awaiting book three as I can’t get enough. The series will stay on my keeper shelf so I can revisit them. I highly recommend reading asap. I received a complimentary card from CelebrateLit/Wild Heart Books. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
November 1863 found slavery alive and well in Eastern Texas. But this slavery was different for various individuals. For Morning Fawn, slavery was in her inability to be herself. The uncle had paid men to steal her back from the Comanche tribe where she had lived and flourished for 9 years, but now she was a prisoner in his home, forced to fit into his mold. Would she ever be able to once again let the wind blow through her hair as she rode her favorite horse?
Lieutenant Devon Reynolds was one of the men paid to remove her from the tribe. As a Unionist, he is against slavery of any kind, and wonders if tearing Morning Fawn away from the only family she remembers was the best thing for her. His mission in Texas does not include rescuing her from her current situation, but how can he be successful at both? For these very different and well developed characters, will they finally learn to leave everything with the Lord?
An early copy of Lone Star Redemption Book Two was received through Wild Heart Books and BookFunnel. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
Set during the Civil War. What an exciting story, an action packed ending! Devon rescued Morning Star from the Comanche who kidnapped her and returned her to an evil Uncle. He didn't realize it, and she hadn't wanted to leave the Indian village. Devon is on an undercover mission for the Yankees to destroy the confederate cotton stored in the town her Uncle lives in. Intertwined with powerful underhanded men, the story is frustrating and nail-biting. Each of them has to learn to know that the Lord uses all things for good, to trust and to stay firm in faith. Very excellent read. Not a quick read. Betting the next in series will be fantastic too.
I received this book free from the author, publisher and CelebrateLit book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Texas Divided is the second book from Sherry Shindelar's Lone Star Redemption series. I loved reading the first book, Texas Forsaken, and was excited to get my hands on this one. I enjoyed getting to know the main characters and taking this journey with them. Devon and Morning Fawn's story was full of adventure, love and faith. There are lessons to be learned, including the power of forgiveness. I thought it was great.
I am going to give Texas Divided five stars. I have no doubt that lovers of clean Christian historical fiction, particularly American Civil War era, will love it as much as me. I look forward to reading the next installment from the Lone Star Redemption series.
I received a paperback copy of Sherry Shindelar's Texas Divided from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
This is book 2 in Shindelar’s series, Lone Star Redemption. If you haven’t read the first book, Texas Forsaken, it is helpful in understanding the background of Morning Fawn/Beth Logan, as it tells the story of her older sister, Eyes-Like-Sky/Maggie Logan, as well as the setting in Texas during the Civil War.
This second book has a different flavor than the first, and the plot is a lot more convoluted. If you don’t like reading about the treatment of slaves or native Americans or women in general back in the 1860s, you might want to skip this book. The characters are well drawn and Shindelar does a great job on all the history.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
This is a captivating story of the best intentions that are not always the right intentions, but in the end, they become they perfect intention. Devon thought he was doing Morning Fawn a favor by rescuing her from Indian captivity only to realize he doomed her to a worse captivity when she was brought to her uncles’ ranch. Stifled by the rigid rules he demanded she follow and locked away when she disobeyed. Devon devises a way to set her free and in doing so they find their way to love one another. This is the second book in this series and I was pleasantly surprised to find out Morning Fawn is the sister of Eyes-Like-Sky in Texas Forsaken. Both novels are filled with historical details and after the last page leaves you with wanting more to each story. R. Fody March 25, 2025
I thought this was an interesting story with fascinating characters. I liked that we get to see what happens to Morning Fawn as she is being forced to leave the world she knows to try and be white. I liked seeing her struggle and how she came to blend her two identities. I also liked how Devon came to love Morning Fawn for who she was and to accept all of her. I liked how they came together and loved each other. I also liked that the story is set during the Civil War and seeing how people at that time in Texas were handling things. I thought the story was well researched.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
Morning Fawn “Beth” lived happily with the Comanche tribe for years. When she is rescued and taken back to her mother’s family, they took away her freedoms and tried to mold her into a “proper” young lady. Devon was her rescuer but he’s not sure that she really needed to be rescued. She has tried to escape but has not been successful. She is feisty and full of spunk, and more than ready to leave her enslavement in her uncle’s house. A fantastic read! I received an advance copy of this book from Wild Hearts Books, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
