Her first published novel was A Great Deliverance in 1988, featuring Thomas Lynley, Lord Asherton, a Scotland Yard inspector of noble birth; Barbara Havers, Lynley's assistant, from a very working-class background; Lady Helen Clyde, Lynley's girlfriend and later wife, of noble birth as well; and Lynley's friends Simon and Deborah St. James.

I have always been a huge fan of Elizabeth George and had been looking forward to her next offering. So, I was delighted to see her five-book series on the Abandonment of Hannah Armstrong show up on Amazon. I was able to get through the first book, although it was something of a struggle, since it was not what I had been expecting. I then moved on to book two of the series in the hopes that things would improve along the way. Sadly, they did not.
These books should be promoted as part of the coming of age genre with some fantasy thrown in for good measure. Referring to them as “suspense novels” is extremely misleading. They are all about teenage angst, magical thinking and pure, unmitigated fantasy. Rather than her usual and wonderful detective fiction, these books offer something along the lines of Harry Potter. If you loved Harry Potter, then this series is for you.
For me, however, these books were a major disappointment.
I've been waiting for this follow-up book ever since the first Whidbey island came out.I love these people and their complex selves. I won't want it to be finished when it is!
