This is the second book in the trilogy about the Devotion to the Holy Face which began with The Golden Arrow: The Revelations of Sr. Mary of St. Peter and concludes with The Whole World Will Love Me.
Leo Dupont, an ordinary layman, was the means to keep this devotion alive for the 30 years while the Catholic Church refused to acknowledge it. Sr. Marie de Saint Pierre (1816–1848) a Discalced Carmelite nun who died shortly after her visions from Jesus were concluded, was denied by her bishop to publish or disseminate the information given her. Three bishops later, near end of Mr. Dupont's long life, the material was finally released and even sent to the Vatican for worldwide distribution. The book ends on a hopeful note with the death of this very holy man.
Leo lived a very interesting life. He was born on the Caribbean Island of Martinque, educated there, the United States and Paris, before eventually settling in Tours, France where it was his wife's dying wish to have their daughter educated by the same Ursuline nuns who had taught her. Mr. Dupont's journey to holiness was also fascinating as he was not saintly as a child, virtuous certainly, but not overtly oriented towards the church until his early adulthood. He lived in the shadow of the cataclysmic French Revolution, so the book also gives some indirect history about how devastatingly it had ripped apart the fabric of Catholic faith in France, not only for those who suffered through it, but for the rest of the country thereafter.

This reads like a novel. Very interesting and edifying. He helped spread devotion to the Holy Face found on the veil of Veronica. He took up the devotion after the death of Sister Mary Peter. He witnessed hundreds of miraculous cures when people came to pray in front of the Holy Face image in his parlor.

Inspiring
This interesting biography is an uplifting account of a humble man’s quiet life full of heartache & miracles. His faith & fortitude are inspiring. The Devotion he practiced is important & relevant for our times. A good read.

Every Catholic should read this book
Great book. It is very inspiring and is a reminder that we are all call to be saints… in our own special ways with our virtues and our weaknesses.
