Unlimited Heart: How To Transform Your Pain Into Purpose

Rate this book
On a cold and cozy December night in 2018, Jim Kaveney thinks he is dying. He is a husband, a father, a business owner, an athlete, and innovator. He is also an Afib patient facing massive cardiac trauma.

In this breakout memoir, Jim Kaveney recounts his dance with death and the events of his life leading up to this fateful, health-defining moment and the shifts in business perspective and priorities that followed.

Unlimited Heart takes readers on a three-part, forty-year journey. It traverses the tight budgets of an eleven-member household to the financial burdens strapped to a dream to the sale of a multi-million-dollar startup. It is a raw portrayal of a boy who grapples with his own demons in the midst of his dreams and a man who turns those dreams into a clear, entrepreneurial vision—a vision that is threatened by medicine, technology, and surgeries.

Kaveney’s entrepreneurial and cardiac journey cannot be separated. Where his heart was weak, his mind became strong. When his mind was weak, his heart was strong. His battle between his metaphorical and physical heart and mind is what inspired him to write Unlimited Heart and to launch a business with the namesake. Turning his pain in life to a greater purpose, Unlimited Heart helps people with cardiac issues be different and better patients.

An absorbing page-turner. I received an advance copy from the author, who is a master in weaving together two stories. One of the stories is about winning in business with “heart.” The other is about winning his battle with a lifelong heart ailment. He reveals again and again his secrets for succeeding on both counts. You can’t help but marvel at his insights about finding your way—mentally and physically—to a better life. And you get all this in a fast-paced, easy-to-read book. Wow!

This is a fast-paced story. It's excellent. Two things I found while reading through this book. 1) I wanted more. If I could get additional stories from nearly every chapter in the book, I'd have another half dozen books to read. 2) The line is so very thin between a story to tell and nothing but an obit and a big family grieving.

That is the whole thing. There is almost no story at all. Thankfully, there is. And I want to read more, know more, and get to know this story even better. There is more, and I bet it's fantastic.

I'm thankful that the author found his purpose, thus the book. But I have a feeling there is enough purpose to sustain books for a long time.

I am largely unfamiliar with AFib. But books like these will shed much necessary light in area that affects many people. That is a good thing. Patients and providers alike will be better for having learned of this story.

I hope there is more to come, in the best ways possible.

Enjoy this ride it goes fast!

Thank you Goodreads for the giveaway copy I received. I thoroughly was all in on the whole Afib discussions explained first hand by the author. I’m sure much can be gained by a lot of people also struggling with similar heart issues.

Inspiring autobiography at its BEST!!

I’ve known Jim through our oldest boys playing sports together for some years now. When I 1st heard he wrote a book I was intrigued no matter the genre. What mattered was that he was a local author and someone I know. How cool is that?!

The only information I knew before reading his book was that he had a heart condition. As I began to read his book I was immediately hooked! I had no idea his story would take so many twists and turns and yet he NEVER gave up on any part of his life. I’ve read many autobiographies and inspirational stories especially since my adult journey always led me into a Sales role in some capacity, but NEVER have I read of any human overcoming as many hurdles physically, emotionally, & mentally. Truly the “Kaveney Work Ethic” is a thing!

I highly recommend this book to everyone!! I honestly could never look at Jim without complete awe ever again. Amazing job all around Jim!!

To me, Unlimited Heart is about one overarching theme: belief. Belief in oneself and one's vision. Jim has been through some extraordinary circumstances, but what I appreciated the most was his honesty regarding the roller coaster of emotions, and effort, we experience when wanting to advance our careers. This makes the book highly relatable for anyone looking to improve their professional life, not just those wanting to start their own business.
