An unexpected marriage. A forbidden kiss. A love worth fighting for.
London, England, 1823
Ian has vowed never to marry, steadfast in his resolve to shield himself from the heartache his father’s infidelity brought upon his mother. Instead, he dedicates his heart and soul to reforming criminal law with his Rebel group. A chance encounter in a country graveyard with the infuriatingly bold Miss Amie Tyler only solidifies his resolve to remain single. That is, until his life descends into chaos when rumors of his engagement—an engagement he had no part in or prior knowledge of—force him and the vexing Miss Tyler into a calculated marriage, a mutual scheme to protect Miss Tyler from her lecherous cousin and to save Ian from a political marriage he dreads.
Amie never imagined her unsophisticated life would lead to an entanglement with Lord Ian Reynolds. Living on her relatives’ charity, she is resigned to remaining a wallflower. But when her mother concocts a wild lie of her engagement to Lord Reynolds, she chooses to trust a gentleman she hardly knows with her future. Amie is thrust into a whirlwind marriage and is overwhelmed to find herself falling for Ian despite their agreement to maintain their own separate lives and goals.
As they navigate their charade, Ian’s political ambitions clash with his growing affection for Amie, and Amie’s courageous attempt to help Ian’s family heal threatens to unravel their bond. However, a forbidden kiss and unexpected acts of kindness kindle the spark between them that neither can ignore. In a desperate race against societal expectations, the two must decide whether a future together is worth breaking their earlier vows of independence.
Anneka Walker was raised by a librarian and an English teacher turned judge. After being fed a steady diet of books, she decided to learn about writing. The result was a bachelor's degree in English and History. When she isn't dreaming up a happy ending for a story, she's busy living her own together with her husband and adorable children.
"The Rules of Matrimony" by Anneka Walker is the fourth book in the addicting “Matchmaking Mamas” series. It can easily be read as a standalone, but there are recurring characters that readers of the series will enjoy seeing in each book. The whole series is simply fabulous and "The Rules of Matrimony" is the perfect ending to the series. It was everything I wanted and more! I was so looking forward to Ian’s story and this did not disappoint. From the hilarious and adorable meet-cute in a graveyard to the perfect ending, Ian and Amie’s story will melt your heart like it did mine. I have loved Ian and his gruff exterior (with the biggest heart) and was so excited for him to get his happily ever after. Amie is perfect for Ian. I love that Ian is determined to use his life to help others and change laws. Ian and Amie enter a marriage of convenience and create “rules” that they then proceed to break, also breaking down the walls each has put around their hearts. Will they find love in their marriage? Their romance made me smile with the nickname “Lord Grumpy” that Amie gives Ian. I appreciated seeing Amie make Ian smile. Tiny the dog was adorable and the way Ian would comfort Amie when she was scared was precious. The chemistry and the longing between the two were so well done and sparks flew off the pages! The characters learn that even though they cannot choose their scars, they will never stop trying to rise above their circumstances. There are beautiful themes of family and forgiveness. At times laugh-out-loud funny and at other times poignant and tender, "The Rules of Matrimony" by Anneka Walker has quickly become a top read of the year!
Content: I give this a PG rating. Some examples of the content: someone was unfaithful in the past and has mistresses; mention of madness and someone being drunk; mention of brothels: mention of laudanum.
TW: brief mention of madness; mention of a man trying to take advantage of a woman in the past; anxiety.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I can't believe that this is the final book in The Matchmaking Mamas series. It feels like the first one just came out, I blinked, and now I've read and enjoyed all four books. This has been a truly delightful series and I will miss having any more adventures with the friend group, The Rebels. And watching these very tricky and cunning mamas employing their matchmaking skills. But the good thing about a book or book series that you love, is that you can always return and reread them and find enjoyment again and again within the pages of those books and with beloved characters.
I've loved watching Anneka Walker grow in her writing talent over the years. She is truly a gifted writer and storyteller and this series is definitely one of my favorites of hers. These last two Matchmaking Mama books tie for my favorite book of hers. So well done. I just adored reading them both. I loved watching the characters grow and learn, especially with something that they have struggled with and seeing them come face to face with it and overcome. And a lot of that ability to overcome was due to the women that they come to love and find strength and acceptance in their relationships and love. So beautifully shown throughout the story. And it's not just the heroes who gain that strength and ability to overcome their struggles, the heroines do as well as they are accepted and loved by good men.
I giggled over many of the antics of Miss Amie Tyler's mom. Oh heavens, she was a character who is close to rivaling Mrs. Bennet's antics and case of nerves. Hahaha! And Lord Ian Reynold's mom was delightful in her little nudges as well. I loved it all! Even with some of the other familial struggles and frustrations, it made me so happy to watch it all play out. Especially the daring gumption of some characters to step forward even when something was hard and be able to correct some problems.
Poor Ian. He's vowed to never marry, but due to outside forces, he finds himself in a marriage of convenience. No problem though. Set up some rules and all will be well. Except he's wrong there. I loved watching him trying so hard to stick to his rules and then slowly making allowances and then running from his wife (hiding in the house, outside, etc.) and then being unable to stay too far away.
These two are just adorable together. My heart cheered for them and their sweet love story, full of chemistry, friendship, strength, trust, heartache, forgiveness, and love. I hope you love it as much as i did!
Content: Clean. Some kisses but nothing further. No language.

This is the 4th book in the matchmaking mamas series! It definitely works as a standalone but you will want to read all of these great books some point. There is an adorable and hilarious meet cute between Ian and Amie. This is a marriage of convenience story, which I always love. However, Ian puts some rules in place to not fall in love with his wife and potentially hurt her by becoming like his father. Amie agrees to these rules but quickly comes to regret it as she finds she wants her marriage to be a true one. I loved Amie and all her quirks. She was such a sweet character. Ian drove me nuts with his rules but it is understandable with his thought process. I loved Ian and Amie together, and how they started to bond and grow close despite the rules. Also enjoyed the mothers on both sides and their scheming ways, but also how much they cared for their children. Overall I thought this was a wonderful conclusion to the series and I definitely recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Regencies are hit-or-miss for me. I've been trying for a while now to find a regency author whose writing I thoroughly enjoy. There have been several misses for me during this entire endeavor, but when I read this book's blurb, I knew I wanted to try it.
The Rules of Matrimony is a definite hit. It's clean, sweet, engaging, and combines the perfect amount of era-appropriateness without making the characters sound too stuffy and robotic. Walker has a lovely writing style that both creates delightful characters and draws the reader in. I enjoyed how the reader is immediately pulled into the tension, and the history behind the plot is quite fascinating. While most of the characters in this book are fictional, the historical events represented within are very real. Walker also does quite well informing the reader of the atrocities that accompanied these events without going into gruesome detail.
After such a catastrophe with the last Regency romance I read, this book was not only a breath of fresh air, but it also proved even a wary reader can be won over. Walker now has a new reader, and I'll be looking into the rest of her books.
*I received a review copy of this book from the publisher in conjunction with JustReads. All opinions are my own.
“There. It was done. From this point forward, she would obey his rules of matrimony.”
The Matchmaking Mamas is one of my most favorite Regency romance series ever. From the very first intriguing and unique meet cute between Lord Grumpy (aka Ian) and Amie to the very last page, I was hooked and fascinated by what in the world could possibly happen next–especially as Amie is so unpredictable. This story is full of humor, heart, and happiness, with tinges of challenges and angst.
Ian is determined to stay true to his cause and not give in to feelings of love or family, yet…who can resist the charming and irresistible Amie? They enter a mutually beneficial arrangement of marriage that is more than either of them bargained for and they quickly discover the rules they set for themselves are easy to smudge. I was addicted to the romantic friction, every conversation, each situation, and all the fizzy build up of swoon that resulted in these two interacting. So many of my favorite tropes were present: grumpy sunshine, one bed, forced proximity, and more.
Anneka Walker does such a beautiful job of creating and telling this story. I may have highlighted tons of passages and they now live rent-free in my head.
All the heart-eyes and love for this installment of the series.
Content: mild romance; talk of infidelity

I know I've said before that I'm not a fan of the marriage of convenience trope, but this book may have just changed that for me. 😍 This was done so well, and truly the sweetest book. I'm definitely hooked on @authorannekawalker books!
Amie was the perfect match for Ian. I always enjoy a good matchmaking book if it's all done just right, and I thought this one was just perfect, I laughed so many times throughout the book. 😅 There were so many inspiring, deep quotes, I easily could've shared more! They all touched me so much. 🩷
Ian was the ruff, grumpy MMC, but in the sweetest way, I loved watching that melt away with Amie. Their witty banter, and that deny to love was my favorite, it made the whole book come together fantastic.
Hopefully I've convinced you to read this now, so I'm going to go and read all of this authors previous books...😅

THE RULES OF MATRIMONY (Matchmaking Mamas #4) @authorannekawalker
-I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
~An unexpected marriage… A forbidden kiss... A love worth fighting for…
-THE RULES OF MATRIMONY, is a dear clean romance story, that sets place in London, England, 1823. This story will take you on a roller coaster of unexpected and surprising twist and turns. Watching two dear characters navigate a charade of mutual scheming to both protect and save one another had my heart. The stakes rise when a forbidden kiss and some unexpected acts of kindness kindle sparks flying in the air. In a desperate race against societal expectations, seeing how Ian and Amie have to choose whether a future together is worth breaking their earlier vows of independence was both heartwarming and tender. It’s somehow simple, yet beautiful how a chance encounter for Ian, sets in motion something greater to break down his stubborn resolve to never marry. I thoroughly loved seeing his heart and soul be able to heal through dear means of courage on Aime’s part! Seeing Ian rise above obstacles and opening his heart was the best. Watching him grow along the way also had my heart. But, also I loved how dear Aime had the ability to help mend, strength, and be a force for good- in her own way to belong. This story beautifully shows great value in supporting and lifting others through the hard and good times and of dear connection and sweet hope! This my friends, is a lovely story part of a dear series worth reading any day!📚❤️💯
“You deserve to love, and to be loved. There is no reason you could give me that could make me believe otherwise.”
•Content: mention of parental infidelity, toxic family members; kisses only.
The Rules of Matrimony by Anneka R. Walker is a wonderful Regency romance. It’s a Proper Romance with plenty of swoony moments (and notes of levity) between Lord Ian Reynolds and Miss Amie Tyler who had their meet-cute in a graveyard! Written in dual point-of-view, readers are privy to the thoughts and emotions of both main characters, an aspect I really enjoy in romance.
Lord Ian watched his three friends/fellow Rebels happily marry, but he pledged to remain single to focus his time and influence on reforming the British criminal justice system. He met Miss Amie Tyler in a most unusual manner, and her meddlesome mother’s lie led Amie and Ian into a very unexpected marriage of convenience. Will they abide by Ian’s rules of behavior, or will true love foster in their partnership?
At first, Lord Ian was *almost* too noble to be believed, but his frequent care and concern for others convinced me that his intentions were pure. Amie had a genuine desire to know and support people, making her his perfect mate. Their dog Tiny was a sweet addition who thankfully remained safe throughout the story.
To balance the romance and humor, the plot includes somber topics including a troubled familial relationship, mental health issues, and inhumane treatment of prisoners. I listened to the audiobook (purchased from Libro.fm). Narrators James Joseph and Mary Jane Wells imbued the characters with so much personality; it was perfection.
The Rules of Matrimony is a great conclusion to The Matchmaking Mamas series, although it can be read on its own. I’ve enjoyed books 3 and 4 and will read books 1 and 2 to become fully acquainted with the Rebels.
Thank you to the publisher and JustRead Tours for the complimentary egalley of this book; all opinions are my own.
I love a good marriage of convenience story but struggled with The Rules of Matrimony. The author admirably introduces social issues of the day, and I liked the heroine’s nickname for her convenience husband (Lord Grumpy). There is a cute rescued dog. This book is very readable and seems well researched, but almost nothing about the plot was believable for me.
The meet cute strains believability; in fact, many of the plot points strained believability. The obstacles to the happily ever after struggle to keep the pair apart. At about the halfway point I wondered how this book could possibly be only half over. Hero Ian is so stiff-necked and heroine Amie is so cringey and willing to do almost anything to keep herself and mama from the poorhouse. (But also she is beautiful – very beautiful.) This is one of those books where I just wanted the couple to talk to each other.
As is often the case with romance books in a series, the appearances of couples from the previous books were a bit jarring. The author clearly expects me to know and love these characters, but they were just characters under too bright a spotlight for me, since I haven’t read books 1-3.
The hero’s father is determined to annul his son’s marriage and get him to marry the father’s own choice, and this insistence also went beyond the bounds of believability. (And a plot twist about the father’s infidelity was another twist too far for this reader.) There is a scene in which the heroine’s mother discovers information by reading her diary and OMG no.
I’m not sure whether I’ll try another book by the author. I read an advance reader copy of The Rules of Matrimony from Netgalley.
I just finished a wonderful book that I couldn't wait to share! It's a charming story about a marriage of convenience, and it really takes you on an amazing journey of growth with the characters. The way it highlights the power of kindness and how it affects everyone around us is so beautifully done. It's such a delightful historical romance, full of themes like redemption, personal development, and some enchanting chemistry between the main characters.
I absolutely loved both of them and was so excited to see the return of the “Rebels” as well! It truly wraps up the series in the best way possible. If you enjoy charming, clean historical romances, you definitely won't want to miss *The Rules of Matrimony*. The way the characters complement each other is just perfect, and the story touches on family struggles and finding reconciliation. I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a read! Thank you to Shadow Mountain Publishing and NetGalley, I received a complimentary ARC copy with no obligation to post a positive review. The thoughts and opinions are my own.
Ohhhhhh my goodness!!! Anneka! Freaking! Walker! I swear everytime I read one of your books I am convinced it may be my new favorite (but who are we kidding?! I LOVE all of her books!!). Ian aka Lord Grumpy was sooo good. He has the whole “extra serious and intimidating, but with a secret sensitive soft side” down perfectly. I loved his caring heart for everyone around him but especially for Amie. They are SO CUTE together. Infuriatingly sometimes 😉, but I love them all the same haha
Amie was sooo sweet and had a heart of gold. She was PERFECT for Ian. She knew just how to break down his walls, little by little (even when she didn’t know she was doing it). This was marriage of convenience done so right. I loved it, I loved it, I LOVED IT!!!
Thank you to the author and publisher for an advance copy, all opinions are my own. The book is available now so don’t miss out on ordering yours!!
This sweet story did not disappoint, especially since my absolute favorite trope is Marriage of Convenience! Right from the start, Ian is adamantly against marriage, so when he suddenly agrees to one for convenience, I knew I was in for something special.
If anyone could melt Ian’s icy stance on love, it’s Aimee. She absolutely shines in this book... her kind heart, witty banter, and endless patience with Ian and his long list of marriage "rules" were simply priceless. And that first kiss? All the lingering glances building up to it? Pure magic.
Ian just wants a no strings marriage so he can choose his own future bride, to keep his inheritance only. Aimee needs a safe place and a chance to claim her independence before being forced into a match she doesn’t want. A marriage of convenience seems like the perfect solution. Throw in some ground rules to keep things "strictly business"… but of course, the heart has other plans. Watching their friendship grow, their banter spark, and the romantic tension build was an absolute delight.
Now, I definitely need to go back and read the earlier books I missed!
I rated this story a 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5!
I received a complimentary copy, and this review reflects my honest thoughts.
🌹 Release Date: May 6, 2025 🌹 . . . This is the perfect story for all of you diehard regency fans! Filled with some of the best tropes, including forbidden love and opposites attract, this book is sure to keep you thoroughly entertained and coming back for more stories by Anneka R. Walker!
Ian Reynolds was certain that he was not meant for marriage and as such, was not ever planning on getting married. But when his father decides that Ian is to marry the woman his father chose for him or be disinherited, he must take drastic measures to take his life plans back into his own hands. With the help of an accidental engagement and a matchmaking mama, an unexpected marriage comes into play.
Amie Tyler was on the brink of destitution, along with her mother. At the mercy of her uncle’s whims, she fears she will be forced into a marriage with her cousin, Robert. But when her mother opens her mouth one too many times and insinuates that her daughter is to be wed to Lord Reynolds, Amie finds herself entering into a marriage of convenience with a near stranger. Will the couple be able to maintain their sense of independence, or will fate and proximity cause the two of them to fall madly in love?
The gentle way in which Ian cared for Amie was so heartwarming and will definitely have any romance lover all in their feels ♥️ I loved watching their relationship progress through this book! I really enjoyed the whole storyline in general and I feel like Anneka R. Walker did a fantastic job at writing it and portraying her characters so well. . . . I received a complimentary arc from Shadow Mountain Publishing. All opinions listed are purely my own.
I’ve loved every book in this series. The Rules of Matrimony is quickly becoming my favorite out of all four. The story’s situation makes it more interesting and adds a lot of humor.
Lord Ian Reynolds, who swore he’d never marry, and Miss Amie Tyler, penniless and her only suitor is a distasteful cousin, find each other unexpectedly. The charade they undergo is to marry and show they are in love, but will the deception fool others? More importantly, will concealing the truth bring them together as a true married couple? If one tremendous kiss at the wedding is any indication, then I knew they had a chance.
I really liked the characters. The ups and downs of Ian and Amie’s feelings felt honest. They both had hopes and dreams, but sometimes their actions got in the way. Falling in love slowly showed more of who they really were. I believe that a slow romance adds depth to both the story and the characters.
This book isn’t just about love. It’s about two people who let their guard down, support each other, and become better people. Anneka Walker wrote a timeless love story that will stay in readers' minds long after the last page. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed Ian's story. His love interest Amie was a surprise and a delight. It sounds like the end of the series, but I need more of those scheming Matchmaking Mamas!
4⭐️ ARC Review: This book was a delight. It is exactly the wholesome romance I needed.
Amie and Ian get caught up in a unique marriage of convenience. One that I think is more realistic than most marriage of convenience books I have read. And their relationship was the most wholesome of all wholesomeness. Historical romances are always that way. We get hand touches, winks, flirting and that’s all you need! It gives you all that sweet tension. It’s like the pride and prejudice hand clenching. Those who know, know.
Their meet cute had me rolling. Amie in general was so funny. She was a quirky character, and that made her all the more lovable. Ian had his issues, but I did like him. I think he dragged his feet far too long, and shouldn’t have compared himself to his father. But it is what it is. I am so happy he and his dad did reconcile in the end. It was truly the perfect ending for their relationship.
This was the first book I read in this series, and I think I missed out on a few things by doing that. The couples from the first books made some cameos and I was a bit lost. So I highly suggest you read them in order if you can help it. If not, I think you can obviously still read them out of order and still be fine. I loved the found family I was getting from it though.
Shadow Mountain Publishing and a marriage of convenience was a match made in heaven. I am truly convinced they only publish good books.
*Thank you to Shadow Mountain Publishing and Anneka R. Walker for the complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Read if you enjoy: - Marriage of convenience - Dual POV - Opposites attract - Forbidden romance - Regency/historical romance - Clean romance
I am so sad to see the Matchmaking Mamas come to an end! I have adored this series from the beginning and will miss this world and characters dearly.
I was not sure how I would feel about anti-marriage Ian finding love, but his story is debatably my favorite!
Ian is most definitely prickly on the outside. He loves his mother, works endlessly for the rebel’s causes, and does not respect his father.
Amie is the one who notices and takes are of everyone else. She puts saints and angels to shame! Having not had a place to call home consistently for years, service is what she has to give.
I love how Amie softens Ian and how Ian strengthens Amie. I especially love how protective Ian becomes of Amie; she allows him to show his gooeyness on the inside.
Watching them go from strangers to acquaintances to a married couple to a power couple was the absolute best! Honestly.

The Rules of Matrimony by Anneka R. Walker was an absolute delight to read. I recently finished it, and I can’t stop smiling. The main characters were wonderful and I enjoyed the wedding. I also liked how their love for each other grew throughout the story. The pace was steady and enjoyable, and I found it to be a wonderful romance. My favorite things: • - The wedding kiss: a special surprise. • - Lord Grumpy: The character of Lord Grumpy was both amusing and endearing. • - The squirrel hunting: It was a fun and light-hearted scene that added a touch of humor to the story. • - The pillow fight: It was a playful and fun. Thank you, Shadow Mountain via NetGalley, for providing me with this wonderful book. 4.5⭐️
“Trust me when I say, it would not take any effort at all for me to fall madly in love with you.”
I loved this story! Ian and Amie’s first meeting was so funny. And their second wasn’t your normal meeting either. Ian is such a kind-hearted, caring man. His attachment to Tiny was so cute! Seeing how quickly his determination not to get married changed to a marriage of convenience once he officially met Amie was sweet. A marriage of convenience with rules, rules that may or may not be broken as early as the ceremony. Amie is a fixer with a heart-of-gold. I enjoyed seeing her take Ian’s political passion on for her self, and their working together to meet his deadline. I loved the sweet, tender, caring relationship Ian and Amie built. My favorite parts were when Ian would break his own rules! 🫠 The revelations and developments toward the end of the story made so many things clear about Ian. I was happy to see his growth and acceptance! I loved seeing the Rebels together! How wonderful for a tiny peek at everyone’s happiness one last time.
Two quick quotes: “I . . . don’t want to kiss you.” “Who said anything about kissing?” “I mean, kick you. Not kiss you.” “Really? Because you seem to have an affinity for both.”
“I said you were good, but an angel?” “Not all of them look this good in a cravat.” “You certainly fooled me.” “My secret is out, and the lady did not even swoon.”
This ARC was provided by the author. I was not required to give a positive review, rating and opinions are my own.
Another fabulous Regency romance book from Anneka Walker--I look forward to these so much. Ian is the last in his group of friends to succumb to marriage, but what he's hiding is that it's not a real marriage; it's a formal arrangement. He only marries Amie to escape his father's meddling, but he doesn't want to make his father's mistakes or be distracted from his noble goals by caring for a family. Of course, he doesn't realize how easy it will be to fall in love with Amie, and the false marriage slowly becomes a real one, with plenty of obstacles along the way.
I adored this story, Anneka's always charming and believable characters, and the wonderful writing. If you haven't tried her books yet, I obviously think you should!
While it's not a religious book, my favorite quote referred to God. Even if you don't believe in God, I think there's a great message in this passage: "God doesn’t sit back in his throne in heaven, measuring our acts of kindness. He celebrates each one, because even the smallest spark can dissipate the darkness in another’s life." And don't we all need those small sparks in these times!!
Thank you to Anneka and her team for the advance copy!
It’s bittersweet to see the Matchmaking Mamas series come to an end, but what a story to end it on! I’ve been anticipating Ian’s story and it gave me all the feels!
First of all, it’s a marriage of convenience story which is my absolute favorite! The meet cute was adorable and had me in giggles! Ian and Amie were just too cute together!
Ian was dead set against falling in love. He put together a list of rules to make sure that didn’t happen..which we all know how those rules always turn out! Silly Ian! And he should have known better after watching all his friends break their own rules! 🤭
Amie went along with his rules but quickly found herself wishing they were non-existent. Their slow building love story was tender, patient, kind and full of so much witty banter and sweet gestures that will have your heart pitter-pattering! And that first kiss…*sigh*!!!
Those Matchmaking Mamas sure know their stuff! And it was a joy to see The Rebels again and their reactions to Ian doing what he swore he would never do…fall in love.
What to love: ❤️The meet cute 💋Mint leaves ❤️Squirrel hunting 💋The 3 rules ❤️Forbidden kiss 💋“Tiny” ❤️Nicknames 💋Wildflowers ❤️When he comforts her 💋The horse ride ❤️Pillow wall 💋Marriage of Convenience ❤️He’s determined not to fall
I highly recommend this book and entire series! If you haven’t started them yet, then what are you waiting for?!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The meddling Mammas are at it again in this final instalment of the Matchmaking Mammas series. This story is an absolute delight with stubborn Ian laying down some rules and "refusing" to fall in love with his unique and sweet wife Amie. From the meet-cute to falling in love readers will thoroughly enjoy this fun and charming unconventional love story.
A complimentary copy of the book was provided. A review was not required and all views and opinions expressed are my own.
“Trust me when I say, it would not take any effort at all for me to fall madly in love with you.”
“Was it the church, or were all kisses this heavenly?”
* What a way to meet 😂 * Amie is much more patient than I’ll ever be haha * Oh, Miles. Sneaky, sneaky. Can’t wait to see all the Rebels hehe * He’s secretly so dramatic and I love it * Squirrels 😂 * Hehehe * Oh, Amie… * You tell him, girl! * Ugh, no you dummy! * Not the pillow fight! 🫶 * Don’t be dumb, Ian. * Awwww!
Oh man, I loved this sweet story! Ian and Amie had a lot they had to work through, but they pulled through and I loved watching them get there.
Amie is so kind and has such a big heart. She always deserved love and happiness. And thank goodness Ian stopped being a dummy so she could have it!
And Ian, oh Ian. What a good man who was being so dumb 😅 Luckily he came to his senses!
I love me a marriage or convenience, and this one was no different! I loved seeing all the Rebels together, and hopefully we can see more of them in the future.
“What would it be like to be loved by such a man? To feel safe in every storm?”
“…every trial is significant to the one who carries it.”
“God doesn’t sit back in His throne in heaven, measuring our acts of kindness. He celebrates each one, because even the smallest spark can dissipate the darkness in another’s life.”
“When you care for someone as deeply as I do, you are not meant to be separated. Your souls long to be together.”
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the ebook. All opinions are my own.
'There. It was done. From this point forward, she would obey his rules of matrimony.'
I have loved, repeat loved with intense emphasis, every Matchmaking Mamas book. These anti marriage but falling deeply in love books are incredibly adorable. And Ian and Amie's story is no different. Amie is the sweetest character, a lovely and soft woman in spite of her difficult life while Ian has a tender heart, hidden behind a grumpy facade. Finding each other and watching them fall in love is a great way to spend your time.
If you like meddling moms, parent relationships, opposites attract, marriage contracts, and marriages of convenience, read this! And the rest of the series because all of these love stories deserve a place on your shelf and your heart.
Such a sweet ending to this adorable series! A marriage of convenience between a man who vowed to never marry and a woman who needs rescuing. There are rules out in place to prevent any “feelings” between them. But what are rules for if not to be broken?
I loved all the funny and silly happenings in this story, starting with the hilarious meet cute in the cemetery. Then there’s the squirrel hunt, thunder storms, and more!
With everything seemingly against them it was such a satisfying journey!
“A melancholy tune from a pianoforte sang from some distant room. Was his feigned fiancée musical? The funeral march she had selected was the right tune for the occasion.”
““It is I who am happy,” Ian said quickly. “I have news to share. Miss Tyler and I are engaged to be married.” For someone who claimed he was happy, he sounded a lot like he was pronouncing someone’s death.”
“Kissing Ian was the scariest, most terrifying thing she had ever done. And she wanted to do it again.”
The Rules of Matrimony by Anneka R. Walker is a sweet historical romance that blends redemption, personal growth, and sweet chemistry. Ian, once scarred by his father’s infidelity, has sworn off marriage, dedicating himself to reforming criminal law. His chance encounter with the bold Amie Tyler leads to a forced engagement, setting the stage for a mutually beneficial but complicated marriage. As they navigate their charade, their growing affection for each other feels genuine, rooted in kindness and respect. Amie’s quiet strength and Ian’s gradual opening up make their slow-burning romance both heartwarming and satisfying.
This book is perfect for fans of redemption stories! It was a cute read!
I enjoyed this book and found it entertaining. I definitely wanted to know how it played out but I didn’t find it addictive like some others in the “Proper Romance” collection. I liked how the relationship with the dad played out. Wouldn’t re read.
This is a great ending to the Matchmaking Mamas series. Ian, aka Lord Grumpy, ends up in a marriage of convenience with Amie. I loved the forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, marriage of convenience, slow burn romance. It has some surprising elements that made me love this book and series even more.
The Rules of Matrimony by Anneka R. Walker 4 stars June read
I realize that I've jumped into a series at the end of it but since I seem to do that so often, I'm quite used to it 😆 And I'm especially glad I did in this case, because I really enjoyed this story and would love to go back and catch up on the previous stories in the MatchMaking Mamas series. Even though it is a series, I was still able to read The Rules of Matrimony in its own without confusion. Like I said, it made me eager to catch up on the other books, but I didn't find this one lacking from jumping in here. The Rules of Matrimony features a marriage of convenience trope, which is one of my favorites! I loved seeing how the relationship between Amie and Ian started, and also how it grew. Ian was determined not to ever fall in love. And he stayed pretty resolute in his decision until...Amie worked her way into his heart with her sweet nature and true kindness. And she really was such a sweetheart. I loved both characters - Ian in his gruffness, and Amie in her charmingness. They complimented each other well, and I was so happy when they truly let themselves fall in love with each other. They both shared a heart for helping others and creating change, and I think Amie made a great addition to Ian's group of friends known as the Rebels. This regency story was a delightful read. :)
I received a copy of the book from the publisher through Just Read Tours. I was not required to write a positive review and all thoughts expressed are entirely my own.
