I’ve been a fan of L.P. Dover and Heidi McLaughlin’s Society X series from day one. And to say I was excited to dive back into this wicked world after so long is an understatement. It also comes as no surprise that, of course, I wished this quick steamy novella about Scotlyn and Brent was much longer. Now keeping my fingers crossed that even more books will follow.

First time was a short, sweet, and steamy, OTT, opposites-attract, virgin gets his girl, second-chance romance. Brent is a bit of a sweet and hunky nerd and virgin. Scotlyn is a sassy and feisty bartender at Society X, a sex club. When Brent goes to the club and sees Scotlyn, he is attracted to her once again. They briefly dated prior. I loved having a male virgin character, and his awkwardness was totally adorable as he tried to win over Scotlyn. These two had great chemistry, and I loved that we ended on a happy note. This was my first book by these authors but not the last.

This was just ok for me.

If you've read anything close to BDSM or books that have sex clubs in them, this was extremely tame in comparison.

The plot was ok but I struggled with the flow & build-up. The sex club was underwhelming once they both decided to seek out it's rooms.

It kept me intrigued right up til about 80%. But then I felt like it was all rushed too quickly & the story felt underdeveloped.

I get that it's a novella, but everything happened within a week (maybe two) & that just made it hard to be believable with how little happened.

A beauty named Scotlyn also works there and she is someone he knows. This is a H 0 T T little novella in this series but can be read as a stand-alone. Told in dual POV and first person.

I read the original Society X series when it released back in 2016/2017 and the series was very steamy and I enjoyed the books, so I was very excited when the authors announced that they were going to be releasing a novella series! I received an ARC of this novella and started it straightaway! After reading, I can say that I loved it! This novella was a short and quick steamy read! The plot developed quickly and it only took me two sittings to read! There wasn’t really any action or suspense in the plot, but there didn’t need to be as the romance was the main aspect! The romance was developed nicely and it was a second chance romance! The romance allowed for some very steamy scenes! The main male character was also a virgin and I have to be honest and say that I don’t think I’ve read a lot of books were the female character has a lot more experience, so that made this book different! The characters were very intriguing and made the plot even better! Scotlyn was the main female character and she worked in the Society X club, so she was very familiar with how it was run! I liked Scotlyn a lot and she was confident and had worked hard to provide for herself! Brent was the main male character and love interest of Scotlyn! Brent was a guy who didn’t really have any romantic experience because of his upbringing, but it’s fair to say that Scotlyn changed things for him lol! Brent also made some big changes in this book as to where he wanted his life to go and who he wanted in it! This novella was written from both Scotlyn and Brent’s point of views, which I wasn’t sure if it going to be because the synopsis gives the impression that it might only the male character’s point of view! I’m really happy that it was written this way because it helped me connect more with both characters and see their feelings for each other develop! It allowed for a few more things to happen in the plot as well, which helped as Scotlyn and Brent didn’t spend every second of the plot together! I now can’t wait to read the next novella in this series! I’m not sure when it’s going to release or who the main characters are going to be, but I’m excited to find out more information on it! I’ll definitely be reading it as soon as it does! The cover for this novella is also absolutely perfect for it! I suits the feel of the book and would draw me to it if I didn’t already know the authors names! It suits the covers for the Society X series as well! Big thank you to L.P. My first thoughts were of disbelief. Ok, so anyone could get to nearly thirty and still be a virgin, but to the suggestion that they hadn't even touched themselves or masturbated before felt a bit of an ask. I guess if there had been a bit more on the reasoning behind his abstinence then maybe I would have bought the idea.

Now obviously this is fiction, well written at that, and I decided to leave my disbelief to the side. Continuing the rest of the story which centered around Brent and Scotlyn's reverse virgin relationship was interesting but slightly predictable as I marveled at how quick Brent lost his prudeness and Scotlyn gave into her secret desires.

All in all, an easy read for a quiet afternoon.

Given four stars but nearer 3.5.

I will preface this with I have not read any of the rest of the Society X books. I loved every minute of this book and have the rest of the series on my tbr list.

Brent is in town for work when one of his employees invites him to a party/club. Brent has always been a over the top smart guy and has always thought he wasn't built for going out to clubs and when he realizes the Society X is not the type of club he was thinking things that an interesting turn.

Scotlyn got out of her home time to live life. When she ends up needing a job the owner of Society X hired her to work at one of his other business but she tends bar at Society X.

What happens when she runs into someone she knows from her hometown? Will these two rekindle what they almost had in high school?

This little novella was full of spice and can be read as a complete stand-alone.

This was a quick read set in the Society X world by these two authors. It is a sweet second chance romance for two high school sweethearts who go separate ways and find each other again by chance in a different state.


Everything centers on a BDSM club. Scotlyn works there and Brent is new tot he whole scene. The two were very sweet together. Not my cup of tea but I would guess that the flow of how things happen at the club was typical.


Good mix of sweet and steamy. I much prefer both author's longer books but this was great for an in between book read.

I have read and reviewed five of Heidi's books, and I have enjoyed them all. This book, not so much. It just seemed so improbable to me for a couple of late 20s characters. These two had dated for a short time in high school and have reconnected, and Brent wants to lose his virginity with Scotlyn, who is not the virgin for a change. I did not connect with either character or the plot. I will continue to read books by this author.

Dip your toe into the Society X world with this quick read co-written by Heidi McLaughlin and L. P. Dover. If you need something short and sexy, this one works well!

Scotlyn and Brent knew each other in high school, and they even dated for a short time. Years later, they have a chance meeting in a different state and in a place Brent would normally not venture into. This world becomes a little bit of an obsession, and he is hoping he can get some help for a long-overdue problem.

But, he's falling for Scotlyn all over again. The big decision Brent needs to make is weighing on him.

I enjoyed dipping my toe into this secretive world, and I think you will too!

Sparks fly between them, but will they have the courage to let each other know? Each has their reasons for partaking in the benefits of the club.

This is the first in a new series of novellas, and this is Brent and Scotlyn’s story.
When Brent spots an old flame behind the bar in Society X, she brings out a side of him that he has not explored previously.
This is a well written easy to read story, with a secret relationship. Secret identity, undeniable chemistry, friends with benefits, opposites attract, romance, second chances, and love, which leads to an entertaining quick read.
I look forward to reading more from these talented authors’ whose work I highly recommend.

It may have been chance that brought Brent into Society X but when he sees his first love works there he is determined to stay. This club and this lifestyle is like nothing he has ever experienced but it is all worth it for a second chance with Scotlyn.

Scotlyn works at Club X and the more time she spends there the more she wants everything it has to offer. That only becomes truer when Brent walks back into her life.

Even though the experience levels between Brent and Scotlyn is very different the chemistry and the feelings between them makes that feel unimportant.

They date, but also meet unknown to each other at Society X sex club. He's a virgin, and she's the one who takes his v card. Physical and emotional connection leads them to think long-term, but the issue of distance needs resolved first.

A quick read, hot and cute at the same time.

Can the “nerdy guy” get the girl after all these years??? Brent is in town for work and gets invited to go out with some of the guys from work. What he didn’t realize was he was walking into Society X. When he sees someone he knows at the bar he realizes he still wants the girl he has his eyes on years ago.

I loved the premise of the dark room and how their inhibitions went out the window. This novella was hot to the touch and I loved every second of it.

This was my first time reading a book by these two authors and I am hooked. I will definitely be reading more of their books. This novella is so well written with lots of heat and a little angst and very fast paced. Brent runs into Scotlyn at an adult club and realizes she is the one that got away. I love how these two are set up. These two get their second chance at love.

Sweet and steamy! I loved reading Brett and Scottlyn's story. It was refreshing to read about a male virgin instead of always the female being the virgin. Brett may be inexperienced, but he knows he wants Scottlyn when he recognizes her at the bar of the Society X club. He had briefly dated her when they were younger. He is attracted to her again and has a feeling that she could teach him plenty. I look forward to reading the next novella in this series.

I missed being in the Society X world, so I was really looking forward to this novella as soon as it was announced.
Having known each other since high school, Brent has always had a lingering crush on Scotlyn. When he sees her at Society X, he’s both surprised and excited. Brent was awkward and shy, and it took a lot to come out of his shell.
This was a quick read, and such a lovely novella that I loved from start to finish.

This was a quick spicy read, and kinda out of the norm. very rare the male in the read is a virgin so this was a nice change. Scotlyn and Brent bump into each other after years in a place he normally wouldn't ever be caught in. He's super sweet, innocent and she is sweet but not so innocent. These two are super cute together, loved this read. I hope we get more of this spicy club.

Wow I wasn’t sure what to expect from this novella, at the start I wondered where it was going.

But once I got into I absolutely loved it, Brent and Scotlyn’s past and them getting to know each other was lovely.

The action all starts and ends in Society X. It’s definitely worth a read.
