They say you can’t go home again…

especially if you’re the governing mind for an interstellar military starship.

It's Sergeant Henry Morgan has now spent more time as a starship than he spent dead. His mission is more than a century old, but in some ways, he feels like it's just begun.

A desperate distress call from Earth has brought him back to his old cosmic stomping grounds, for your standard save-humanity-from-extinction-by-alien-constructs operation.

But Henry needs to realize while his species might be the new kid on the galactic block, it is not without its secrets. Many of them deep and dark, with implications that reach back to the time when he himself walked the Earth on two legs.

In some ways, humanity has become more alien than the extraterrestrials. And if Henry can't figure out what this means - fast - he's going to have serious problems keeping himself and his crew safe.

The Earth We Knew is such a surprise in terms of plot and characters that it makes it difficult to make a choice of what I loved most.
Yes, the Interchange became "old" and inevitably so also our starship's spirited "leader", Sergeant Henry Morgan.
And a century into the future with Scree obviously intent on destroying Earth finally, it is indeed an Earth that is hardly recognizable as such.
Surprises there are many, such as another lookalike starship to the Interchange, this one called the Satyr.
But it is a little aside close to the end of The Earth We Knew that really brought tears to my eyes when the love and kindness of two team members, Ensign Dixon and Corporal Lundrigan is related.
Talk of being poignant. And thank you.
Author Scott Bartlett penned here a winner.
Enjoy

Well, Scott Bartlett, you've done it again. I really enjoyed reading the continuing adventures of the I, Starship crew. Sgt Henry Morgan is the Reconstituted Mind (RM) of an actual Marine from a time long ago. Now, he has doubts about whether he ever was human. But then again, being the only "person" alive while everyone goes into Offset during their long, interstellar journeys, would be enough to question anyone's sanity. There is so much to check into with Henry, Captain Seemey and the rest of his crew, along with Admiral Perik and the crew of the Rafail from the Fundament world as they race back to Earth to fight the Scree. But will they arrive back in time to do anything? Scott Bartlett, you weave a wonderful tale. Makes one contemplate the "what ifs" of life. Can't wait to read the next book in this series. Thank you.

This third instalment of the series I, Starship picks up immediately after the second book. Due to communications they have received, the ship and crew have to immediately return to Earth. They are helped in this by the race they befriended in the second book.

The author has given us quite a few interesting twists. He also continues to build out the main characters including the RM (Reconstituted Mind, formerly Sergeant Henry Morgan). I enjoyed the direction the author took us once the ships arrived back out our solar system. Earth is in dire shape for a few reasons (sorry, no spoilers).

This is another very good read by Scott Barlett and I can’t wait for the next book to come out. I gave this 5 stars based on what you read above.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review,

Sich surprised there ships still can fight

This a grim dark odyssey has see what a humanity would do to its self when it loses all hope in its self. The story comes full circle has we return to a war ravaged land ruled by humans who been twisted into not thinking form them selfs and abandoned the principles that made there people great once.

An with the war we learn more of the secret history of humanity hinted in previous book lay it was rushed and was given an unstiastifed end has we know with no direct end with them there probably still around. Also like previous books just when Herry final has people seen him has a person they cut of a once more his sorrowful voyage with people who are killing slowly starts agin.

Does Henry go insane? Would YOU!!!

Reading this book, you naturaly relate to the main charater, Henry, the ship's AI. As the decades swiftly pass for the crew of the Interchange, they crawl by for Henry. Imagine being awake and alone, without any other intelligent contact, for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for over a century! Would you keep it together under these conditions? Our protagonist faces these exact circumstances in book 3 of I, Starship. You won't want to miss the drama and intense space battles that the crew of the Interchange lives through in book 3! I highly recommend it!

Boring

I first thought we'd get some breakthrough that these past three books were leading up to a grand reveal about artificial intelligence. Failure. I saw the first book as a criticism of open AI, and its ilk. The second book seemed to imply some benefit of a reconstructed mind over standard human ability, and this book looked as if it were going to address problems associated with an RM going insane. No. nothing. nada. We make stupid demands, and brilliantly lucky combat tactics that end up with our getting our way while losing all or friends. I've got a sour taste in my mouth.

The fight continues

The Interchange survived both the contact with a deranged Earth and the Spectre fleet that was trying to wipe out all of the Earth’s inhabitants. They then leave on their longest journey to date.

The majority of the crew have spent less than a subjective year on the mission thanks to their time in Offset (Humanity version of suspended animation) and therefore haven’t reached the levels of burnout that Henry has been forced to endure, so more than likely they will embark on another mission with just a brief stop in our Solar System to result. I’m curious to see how the mission is planned & run!

What an amazing read. The storyline is gripping and brilliant and the characters new and old are well written. I could not put this book down , started it one day and finished it the next it has so many stories regarding the crews lives on a ship partly controlled by an AI that is actually a human brain cloned and it totally makes this . I won't say anything about the storyline so I don't give spoilers but I will say this is an action packed book with well written battle scenes .
I absolutely recommend this book.

Good Read

Another well thought out continuing storyline from Scott Bartlett. Earth and it off world colonies are in trouble from a rogue AI bent on destroying organic life and obtaining the “rod” that Earth doesn’t even know was left on Earth centuries ago. The first humans starship the INTERCHANGE is on its way back to Earth along with a more advanced alien starship to help. The reconstituted mind of dead Marine Henry Morgan is being trusted a little more by Capt Seemey. Need from Earth is spotty and very dire!

This incredibly imaginative series just gets better and better as the action moves over centuries and through multiple galaxies. The characters are so well written and described and the whole concept of a reconstituted mind as a ship's AI is so novel and inventive. The action is intense and constant and the story so gripping that you just keep on reading to see where it goes next.

The adventure continues to develop and intrigue

I continue to enjoy the inner thoughts of Henry the RM.(Reconstituted Mind) that controls the space shjp and the epic story line of unlimited possibilities the galaxy holds for the author and reader. I'm up for one.more in this series.!

Good read

In all the latest book followed in well, but, it was almost like the author knew the direction he wanted to go and what he wanted to do when he got there but just couldn't find enough interest to fill the book. I'm not trying to be harsh but quite a few pages seem to be "filler". Still love the books and the concept and the next is loaded to go.

A very good continuation!

One becomes enamored with Henry...this one did, anyway. Discussing a possible "soul" was very enlightening. I sincerely hope that theme is continued. I'm looking forward to book 4!

One fight end

Well captain smelly seems to have finally excepted the RM as a member of his crew. But it was not easy. As they have returned to earth in answer to the call for help, and help defeat the specer. But now it appears that they have a new challenge ahead of them.

as good a read as you will find

both the first and second books were good, but they set the timbre for this third book. Many questions answered some more raised looking toward the next book. the main characters are all now well developed and working the story. excellent.

this series really took a turn for the worse when the author started pimping the pseudo- cannibalistic doomsday cult he's a part of instead of a space scifi story about an existential threat to humanity.

the tear down of the ridiculous Covid era delusions was fun though earning it 1 star

This review is a 5 because shortly after I finished, the thought crossed my mind, I might read it again someday. What I don't like is having to wait until December 2025 for the final installment.

The time jumps get a bit wider here and we start to see more things. I started to drift a little mentally in spots, but still want to know what happens next.

Enjoyable enough and will keep going with the series but it’s just good enough, not up there with any greats.
