Kidnapping a mafia boss. What could possibly go wrong?
Thea
It was supposed to be one final job. Kidnap someone important and ransom him off so we can finally leave the city and make new lives for ourselves. It was my brother’s plan. It was meant to be simple.
…and then I find out the man we’re kidnapping is Silus McLean, a mafia boss who runs half the city. If this thing blows up in our faces, it’ll be biblical.
But it’s too late to turn back. Silus’s days are numbered. I just wish the mafia boss in question didn’t make my heart skip a beat.
Silus
The last place I expect to find myself is in the care of two strangers who say they want to sell me to my enemy. While I may be used to certain situations, I can honestly say this one is new.
One of my kidnappers just so happens to be a girl I can’t take my eyes off of. Something about her intrigues me, and I need to know more.
If Thea and her brother think they’ll get away with this, they have another thing coming. I’ll escape, and when I do, I’ll take Thea with me for a little payback. The girl is mine and she doesn’t even know it.
Mafia romcom? ✔️ Fun antics? ✔️ Laugh out loud moments✔️ Multiple kidnappings? ✔️ Sexy smoldering H? ✔️ Super sweet but definitely can hold her own h?✔️ Age gap? ✔️ h 22 H 35 Insta-lust ✔️✔️ Safe? ✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️
Gah This was a fun and refreshing read it is definitely not to be taken to seriously. I warn you cause the antics are OTT and fun but definitely not in the realm of a normal mafia book.
I had some much fun with this I wish it was out in audio and I will definitely check out future books
Safe‼️ No OP after meeting Both experienced! No V No real mentions of their past except both had regular sex lives. The H did make mention of sharing girls in the past w his brother. Definitely will not share the h. It was his brothers link not his but he would indulge his brother from time to time. The H had the normal mafia boss sex life woman throwing themselves at him but he never had a relationship and was not a manwhore but definitely experienced.
This was so fun and unserious lol😂 Her kidnapping a mafia boss and then said mafia boss kidnaps her again for revenge but doesn't really treat her like his captive and becomes obsessed with her? EPIC. God, I feel like I needed to read after a couple of flop reads. Silus and Thea were amazing tg and there was absolutely no drama or double standards, which I LOVED! If you're looking for a quick palate cleanser with an obsessed hero and strong heroine, then this is the book for you☺️
safety squad: - no OW/OM drama (mentions of H having shared women before with his brother sometimes but he doesn't want to share h when the brother offers. no actual drama tho) - reverse captor x captive - no cheating/sharing - no virgins/manwhores (wasn't mentioned but I didn't get those vibes from Silus) - age gap (h is 22, H is 35) - insta lust/love - obsessed hero - HEA
I was dying when I read this book! Thea had to listen to her brother and his plan to kidnap someone, and when she did, she didn't know it was a Mafia boss. 😆😆 The banter when she held him Captive was funny. From feeding him to holding his dick as he peed.
Until his men came for him. He did warn her, giving her ways out, but she didn't take them. Lol, her time being kidnapped by him was funny too. And the drama and her brother were amazing. at least her brother wasn't a douche lol.
No ow/om drama, no cheating, slight secondary character, drama, sexy times, no virgins

This book had the potential to be massively funny. A mafia boss getting kidnapped? The sheer incredulity of this ever happening caught my interest and I decided to give it a try.
It was OK in the beginning: seemed a little funny, and I was under the impression that Thea was competent. But then this just turned into any other mafia romance with dubious consent and a massive disparity in power. As is typical in mafia romances: the FMC is poor and has no legitimate family left (except her brother). Turns out this wasn’t even Thea’s idea and she was not an experienced thief/criminal. The whole heist, if you wanna call it that, was clumsy, poorly planned and not well thought out.
This book had so, so much potential. But in the end, it turned out to be a bland mafia romance. Not a great way to end the year.
Lmao this was so funny it was peak comedy 🤣 Silus was so unserious the whole time while being kidnapped and then he just uno reserved the situation 💀 Anyway, I was entertained for majority of the book. Now why do I kinda want a book about Max and Roark. Or even Cormac. Or actually you know what, they could be a throuple
i don't feel any chemistry between the H and h. the heroine is an unsympathetic character, and i don't like her whatsoever. the hero smirks constantly (the book is ~230 pages long, and the word "smirk" is mentioned 38 times; that's a smirk on every 6th page).
I'm rating this higher than I usually would because the idea (to me) was unique. Haven't read this trope before so kudos to the author
The h agrees with her brother's plan to kidnap someone for money, she doesn't know his identity but her job is to get close to him and drug him. To her surprise the man they kidnapped is a mafia boss, when he's rescued by his men he kidnaps her in return. Now she's stuck in his home, with her brother also kidnapped and his whereabouts withheld to keep her compliant. Thea is pissed.....the absolute last thing she expected was to fall in love with her kidnapper.
****" This was cute, sexy and fun Likeable mcs Fun plot Interesting secondary characters Pretty decent read
***** No cheating Both mcs experienced The H mentioned sharing previous women with his brother but he absolutely refused to share the h
I had high hopes for this one because Thea seems to be at least a little bit fierce but of course she sees Silus and she's gone. I mean, not completely, she does try to fight her attraction to him but let's be real, it's not for long. And Silus? He's just a dick who wants to fuck her, regardless if she's willing or not (although he's so convinced she's attracted to him that if she even said no, I'm sure he'd hear yes). The only little bit of saving grace is that he doesn't want to share her with his brother, despite him having shared women in the past with him. It's pretty much at this point (not even 26% in or so) that I pretty much checked out. It's one thing to know the mmc has past lovers but this? Yeah just disappointing and it's clear she's nothing more than a hole to stick his dick in. Thea's reaction to him kissing her as she's his prisoner is what really ruined it for me. Of course she moaning and turned on and wanting more, because what woman wouldn't be eager to fuck her kidnapper? 🙄 😒 I swear all fmcs in these books are the same, dick stupid and disappointing. Sure her inner thoughts might show she's pissed off, might even throw a fuck off at Silus but she's all too responsive to him touching her, and she doesn't fight it. And I don't care that Silus bought her a bunch of furniture, etc for the windowless room. He's not a good guy and all he wants is sex and to own her. Like she's nothing more than a pet to him.
All in all I gave up reading at around 60% or so. I didn't want to waste more of my time. I like my over the top men, but I like them to be "touch her and die" with a possessive personality but never mean to the fmc. I don't like when anyone is treated like an object. Also Thea basically annoyed me to no end about her going on and on and on about how good looking he is, everything he does is sexy, etc. Have I seen good looking men? Yes, but I don't fucken drool and think about how everything they do makes them so much more appealing. Especially in a situation where you're kidnapped? No, their good looks would go down the drain fast in my eyes. That whole scene with him making her suck him off or her brother would pay the price really doesn't sit well with me. I get this is a book, but it's clear it's non consent and normal people don't get turned on by non consent and I'm honestly tired of reading fmcs that basically flood their undies when they are treated like this. Does this mean I want a real non consent scene? No, I've lived through it. I just don't like seeing these things in books and the author feeding the audience in a way that makes it seem ok because they'll have a HEA.
The scene that really did me in and proves that she's nothing to him is that he takes her on a date, fucks her all night (whether she wants it or not -but it fucks like a God and the stupid woman that she is can't say no like a sane person), and then when she falls asleep he throws her back in her windowless room. Just like a good little sex doll that you hide in the closet when you're done. He is such an asshole and I can't be bothered anymore. She means nothing to him at all, other than some stupid obsession and I don't feel like whatever HEA the writer has planned for them will actually make a difference. There is zero love here, and honestly, no room for it.
Edit: Tried to go back months later and I got another 7% maybe? Yeah the scene with the gun and where he tells her she should respect it and proceeds to get her off with it was enough to send this book into the trash for me. If I could give negative stars as a review I would.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
this was such a great palette cleanser. if you’re wanting to read a mafia romance but not something so dark, then this is a good choice. this book will have you chuckling, esp when you realize Thea and her brother who are both like 5ft tall kidnap a mafia boss 😂 you also still get a good amount of spice that includes a gun play scene. honestly, i need more mafia books with the trope of them getting kidnapped (but it’s so unserious) or accidentally kidnapped.
While I love all of Candace's books and worlds she creates, I think this book is one of the most fun reads I have had in a while! It was crazy, hilarious, exciting and I devoured in one sitting!
Watching Silas, the Mafia boss in question, come to terms with the ridiculous situation he finds himself in, and then dealing with it - and Thea - in the way he does was so fun to read!
While with Thea, following her process of going between being baffled by the position she finds her self in and deciding to just go with the crazy was very entertaining!
I also unexpectedly loved both brothers by the end of the Story. Max in a lovable idiot kinda way, while with Roark he is very intriguing and I hope we get to see more of him, as well Cormac! We only get to see Cormac briefly but with the way the story finishes up he would definitely be a fun character to delve into.
Overall another 5 star read for me and I hope we get to see this world again 😍
Thea never thought she would be involved in a kidnapping. She blames her brother Max. Once their mother gets out of jail they have a plan to get them a house. Her brother convinced her about a better job. She has been working for over a week at this fancy place. There are always men with expensive suits in there. She doesn’t care about men like them. They think they’re better than her or wanting her on her back or knees. She is there to drug someone and her brother does the rest. Some guy kept trying to proposition her and she even told the guy she had a boyfriend. He didn’t believe her. When she looked at the table there was a guy by himself so she got an idea. When she went up o the guy with a drink she explain what was going on. She saw how attractive he is. The man got up went around toward her and said better make it believable and grabbed her by the waist and pulls her down to his lap and kisses her. After the kiss he asked her do you think that was enough. She thank him for going along and tried to get off his lap. He told her trying to run from your boyfriend so soon. She told him she needs to get back to work and he lets her go. She goes back to the bar and her phone buzz. When she looked at her phone it was her brother shower her the target. She zoom in and she knows that person. It was her new boyfriend, she couldn’t believe out of everyone there it had to be him. She will or something in his drink then her brother which take it from there. Ones the target starts to leave she texts her brother that his on his way. Her brother told her to catch the bus and meet them at their house. She went along with this plan because she wanted a better life for her and her family. She gets to the house and see Mr Sexy handcuffed to a chair. Her brother gives her the gun that belongs to the target and tells her to watch him. He has to go dump his phone and the car and that he will be back in about an hour. She asked him who he was and he tells her Silus McLean. Her eyes budged out because she knows who he is, his from the McLean crime family. His the mafia boss who she helped kidnap. Her brother told her that he was going to call the mafia boss rival and sell him to them. Her brother told her to keep an eye on him then leaves. Her brother gets back and now it’s his turn to watch the target. She goes to her room and try to rest but the encounter she had with him keeps replaying in her head. She couldn’t sleep so she went downstairs to tell her brother that she will keep an eye on him. That he needed his rest before tomorrow and she couldn’t sleep. Silus starts to wake up, when he lifts his head he saw her. He asked her where was he. She told him that he was at her house. He asked her why and what did she do and she told him what she did. She told him sorry that she didn’t know he was the target until after. Then he told her after you needed a knight in shinning armor. He also tells her that you’re welcome for that by the way. He tells her is this how you repay every stranger who dies a favor. Silus tells her if you wanted to tie me up all you had to do was asked. Is that my gun he tells her, do you know even how to use it. She told him yes. He ask her why was he at her house and why she drugged him. His never been kidnap but people do try and kill him. What is it you hope to gain from this he asked her. She told him that they selling him to the O’Cormac. He assumed it was because of money. He told her that if that was it he could have gave it to her. That’s what a good boyfriend does. He realized she said we and he asked her who else was there. She told him it’s none of his business. He told her it better not be another man trying to take her away from her. You got jokes she tells him. I have never been kidnap before he says. Will they sell him? Or will they let him go? What will happen to them? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This book was recommended to me and I am glad it was because I never would have picked it up on my own. The idea of someone innocent (not in the life) kidnapping a mafia boss is original but I like my books predictable (hah). So this was a light read, a bit silly but entertaining and actually turned out to be a great palette cleanser between the heavier books.
Thea lets her hustler brother talk her into kidnapping some guy who they are going to sell off. She goes undercover as a bartender for this plan. Turns out the intended victim is none other than Irish mafia boss Silus. Silus, rather than being outraged he got kidnapped is more surprised and dare I say, amused by the whole situation. He is also strangely attracted to his little kidnapper. So when his brother comes in and rescues him, he takes Thea with him as a hostage.
Nice light mafia romance. I didn’t find it as funny as other people seemed to have. It does have nice banter though.
What I liked: -the meet cute -the rags to riches -the banter or just the fact they talked - their names
What I didn’t like: - the repetitions!!! Oh god how many time do I have to read the brother wants to share her??? - the blackmailing!!! She had to “serve” him to see her brother… I know I know she liked it bla bla bla… but yeah dub/con and even though she didn’t fight back it’s still called 🍇 - I wished she had fought back harder!!! -the h insecurities “why does he want me when he can have any other women” yeah yeah we get it you don’t think highly of yourself.
Overall it was a good book with a different storyline but I was waiting for more actions. The h must have been bored to death locked in a room all day long!!!
This was so good! I was excited for this the second I saw Candace post it on her Facebook group. It was a very fast paced, non dark, mafia romance. I like darkness in my books but this was still amazing. I have yet to find a book by this author that I didn’t love. Everything about this book was amazing. Honestly I didn’t even read the description so all I knew about it other than the title (which is actually pretty descriptive lol) was the author. I loved the turn it took and would love more books from this universe. I would love a book about Roark (and 😉) or Cormac! It was kind of a basic mafia theme but it had its own unique aspects to it.
When I saw reviews for this book describing it as a mafia romcom and unserious…I was expecting a lot of ridiculousness. And, sure, this book is totally OTT and unrealistic, it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting (which is a good thing!). I loved how obsessed and possessive Silus was right from the start. Thea was a bit naive, but she didn’t annoy me. The brother (Max) was a bit of a caricature though. The spicy times were spicing, phew! All in all I enjoyed this for what it was, a few hours of good entertainment!
Safety: - No OW/OM - No cheating - No separation / no third act break up
I really loved this book. I enjoyed both sibling relationships. I liked the main characters and how they remained true to themselves in all the quirky scenarios. It’s not as dark was most mafia books I’ve read which made it even more delightful for me. It was truly refreshing and original. I will absolutely read more from this author. A KU recommend to be sure.
Is it a solid 4⭐ read? No. Would I still rate it 4⭐? Yes, because it means I don't mind rereading it.
The idea and the plot were great - definitely fresh among my other reads. The story was not perfect, though still quirky, easy, and fun. The second hald was weaker, but oh well - still a perfect unserious read during the holidays.
Cute story, very very light reading. Feisty heroine with possessive hero. It went slightly “hallmark movie” towards the end, which made me skim a bit because it was a little too sweet for my taste, but still, enjoyable
