Becoming Indigo

Rate this book
A fateful encounter with a killer in the streets of Reno would change a life forever. Just not the one intended.

Two years ago I escaped a life of abuse and captivity at the hands of the Callahan Family, head of the Irish mob on the East Coast from Nova Scotia to Connecticut. I’d do anything to outrun my past and the ghosts that haunt me.
After thwarting a serial killer I dub “Hoodie Guy” and becoming BFFs with his van, I expected to ride off into the sunrise after his funeral. Like Sandy and Zuko at the end of Grease, but with less lycra and more blood splatter!

Unfortunately for me, the owners of Hoodie Guy’s lonely burial plot out in the desert catch me glamping and decide to take me prisoner. But, to loosely quote a motivational speaker I quite admire; I’m not locked in here with them, they’re locked in here with me. And this bitch is crazy!

“Becoming Indigo” is intended for readers aged 18+. If you like dark humor, a crazy fierce FMC, sexy bikers, vicious mobsters, and most BEST FRIENDS, this book is for you. The spice level is at a simmer in this book for reasons you’ll soon discover, but don’t worry! The FMC will get her happy ending in more ways than one in the sequel, but this book ends on a cliff hanger.

Tropes found family, mafia, MC romance, slow burn, forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine, and secret identity

Trigger warning : This novel contains material that may disturb some readers. It graphic violence, references to past SA, references to past animal abuse, death of a family member (off-page), and torture. Your mental health is important, so please read responsibly.

Great start!!

This was a really fun read. I especially enjoy the chaotic nature of the main character, and it quite frankly makes me happy to visit her world - apart from a few brief references to all manner of abuses (emotional, physical, and sexual). Its an interesting story and I am curious as where it will go. I highly recommend this for anyone if they find the synopsis remotely interesting.

Damaged Goods Series Book 1

This book had so many fun elements that made the story entertaining and engaging from beginning to end. I was instantly hooked right from the action on the first page. I would categorize this book as a dark rom-com because it's heavy on the dark humor but also we're in an MC/Mafia world with action and suspense so I'm just going to call this a highly entertaining and a jack of all trades book because we get such a fantastic mix from the elements in these genres.

Is our FMC Indigo completely unhinged? Yes! Do we love her crazy? Absolutely, 100%! She is such an amazing character. Her inner thoughts and some of the things she said had me truly laughing out loud. That being said she went through a lot of atrocious things in her past and somehow she became this fractured yet resilient BA woman. She's one of the best FMCs I've come across and many parts of her story had me shedding tears. She's so endearing and has easily carved out a space in my heart for her.

The fight scenes were some of the best most thrilling I've read. The way they were written made them so easy to visualize.

I was not a fan of the MMC Priest at the beginning of the story. As he worked to earn Indigo's trust and forgiveness I felt my heart thawing out for him too. He is the grumpiest grump there ever was but his obsessed/protector mode was hot.

The slow-burning enemies-to-lovers tension was on point. I really loved how their connection developed throughout the story.

I loved the family she found within the MC. All the characters were written so well.

Indigo might be my new favorite FMC because this bitch is UNHINGED—and I love her for it. She’s effortlessly hilarious, completely chaotic, and somehow still endearing and sweet. She makes this book feel so unique, and I could not get enough of her.

She might be a standout, but I loved most of the characters. They were amazing and distinct with their own voices. the motorcycle club as a whole added so much to both the plot and Indigo’s character arc. I especially liked how the MC was portrayed—not just as a stereotypical outlaw group but one with actual morals and a commitment to helping their community. Priest is kinda a dick. But at least he gets put in his place multiple times, and by the end, he finally pulls his head out of his ass. I still want to see a stronger redemption arc in book two, though. That being said… Pyro. Trash. Why the club didn’t do something about him earlier is beyond me, and I was so frustrated that Indigo kept certain things to herself. It definitely came back to bite her in the end.

Romance-wise, I wish there was more, but hopefully, that builds in the next book. Minimal spice overall, but that motorcycle scene? Absolute gold.

Also, HOW is this a debut novel? The writing, the layered plot, the unfiltered chaos—it was all so damn good. And that cliffhanger? Disrespectful af. I need book two yesterday. Highly recommend to anyone who loves a badass FMC, ridiculous banter, motorcycle clubs, and organized crime. A definite must read! I'll be here.... impatiently waiting for book two.

Oh my goodness!! This book was incredible, if you like enemies to lovers and just a little spice you HAVE to pick up this book! I could not put it down once I started reading. So make sure to clear your schedule when you start reading because if you are anything like me, you will be occupied all day! This book is a contemporary romance but I’d say it gives some dark twisted vibes as well. There is a huge cliff hanger at the end of the book so be prepared to scream at the last page for at least a full 10 minutes. This book has a chokehold on my life and all I can do is think about the next one. I did receive an ARC for this book in exchange for my review, but it is now live as of Dec 9, 2024! Go buy it!!! And Meredith, please get us the next book asap 😭

This book was amazing! From the 1st page I was captured. I can't wait for the next book, I feel lost without it. The writing was witty and well done. This might be my favorite FMC of the year. Someone mentioned this on reddit and I thought let's try it out. I finished the book the 1st day because I could not put it down. Thank you and looking forward to the next one.

What's not to love? Tragic back-story, hilarious/witty banter, pop culture references, enemies to potential lovers. I was hooked from the first paragraph and couldn't put it down! I can't wait for the next one!!

Wow! Just wow. You have never met a FMC quite like Indigo. And if she isnt amazing enough wait until you meet Shelia. Add in the tension between Indigo and Mr. Growley Gus and you will find yourself losing sleep and questioning your need to keep your job or just stay home to read. A forever recommendation from me!

If you’re a fan of found family, enemies to lovers, and strong female heroines you will surely enjoy book one in the Damaged Goods series. I can’t wait to read more of Indigo’s journey in book two!

If you love a good dark rom-com with a strong and stabby FMC, then this book is for you!

I was hooked into this book from the beginning. Indigo quickly became one of my favorite FMCs. She is completely unhinged, but you can't help but love her crazy. She is hilarious when she really isn't meaning to be, completely full of chaos, and has a sweet side that you wouldn't think was possible after everything she has been through. She has escaped from a life of abuse and captivity and has been on the run for two years now, doing whatever she has to in order to survive. Indigo is fierce and does not allow her trauma to have a hold on her.

The MC that takes Indigo in after she buries a body on their property is exactly what she needed. There's a story behind that as well! There's only one person that is part of the MC that I disliked and you'll see why! Priest, our MMC, has his own issues and was sometimes completely infuriating, but there's a story there as well. Indigo has finally found friends and a family.

While there is a lot of humor and banter in this story, we are also seeing the story of survival, strength, grief, and resilience. There's a slow burn with Indigo and Priest and we see just a little bit of spice towards the end, but that is it. I presume that will pick up in the next book.

I thought the author did a fantastic job with this as her debut novel! I highly recommend you check it out and I can't wait to get into the next one. Make sure you check your trigger warnings.

Wow. This book absolutely consumed me from start to finish. Becoming Indigo isn’t your typical dark romance it’s raw, chaotic, and strangely empowering. Meridith Gray takes us deep into Indigo’s world, a woman clawing her way out of trauma and reclaiming her strength in the most unorthodox ways possible.
I loved how unapologetically fierce Indigo is. She’s not a damsel in distress she’s the storm itself. Her dark humor, her inner monologues, even her interactions with danger everything feels so alive and unpredictable. The writing is sharp and gritty, with flashes of vulnerability that make her story hit even harder.
What really stood out to me was the balance between pain and defiance. There’s blood, danger, and madness but also this strange beauty in how Indigo fights back. The story is wild, sometimes funny in a twisted way, and completely addictive. And that cliffhanger? It left me needing the sequel immediately.
If you like your stories dark, daring, and driven by a heroine who refuses to break, Becoming Indigo will absolutely grip you. It’s not for the faint of heart but that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Becoming Indigo – A Raw, Hilarious, and Powerful Ride

Becoming Indigo is an absolute 5-star read. The FMC is unhinged in the best possible way—funny as hell, unapologetically herself, and full of chaotic charm. She’s witty, wild, and refuses to give a damn about what anyone thinks, which makes her one of the most refreshing characters I’ve read in a long time.

This book isn’t just about surviving—it’s about fighting your way through life, trauma, and all the messy in-between moments. Indigo doesn’t hide from her pain; she wears it with a smirk and turns it into strength. Watching her build her “village” of support while healing and growing made this story hit deep.

It’s raw, emotional, and laugh-out-loud funny in the most unexpected ways. If you love strong, unfiltered female leads who tackle life’s chaos with sass and resilience, Becoming Indigo is the book for you.

This book is flipping amazing and drew me in in the first chapter! The banter is off the charts hilarious and I laughed and cried over Indigo! The characters fabulous and you just want more, like right now I must have book two immediately. Please for the love of Bob I need this. Stop what you’re doing right now and get this book, you’ll thank me later because you won’t be able to put it down. Meridith Gray chefs kiss my dear I will forever be a fan. And I must know if Indigo and Priest finish what they started🙌🏻🫶🏻🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. Oh these characters you’ve created I love some and despise a couple so bad I can’t even tell ya. But you need to read it to find out. 🤣 10/10 I’d read it again.

It took me a bit to get get into this book, purely based on the almost childlike writing in the very beginning. BUT once Girl aka Indigo developed a little, I fell in love with her! She’s witty, unapologetically her and snarky as Bob (get it? 😂)
Again, I loathed Priest at first, but once I learned more about him, I understood why he was the way he is.
Then add in the rest of MC? Love them all!

This book combines two of my favorite tropes…Motorcycle Club and Mafia. The trigger warning list is a mile long but that’s what makes Indigo herself.
I’m immediately going to read Keeping Indigo now!

Meridith Gray is a Bobdamned hilariously brilliant literary genius! You get everything with this story—laugh-out-loud humor, gut-punch emotion, and the kind of raw authenticity that keeps you glued to every page. Indigo herself is magically chaotic in the absolute best way, and watching her journey of self-discovery unfold was an experience I didn’t want to end.

This book balances humor and heartbreak with such effortless grace, and Meridith’s voice shines in every line. I adored every second and immediately jumped straight into Keeping Indigo because I just couldn’t let her go! 💜

The line of ADHD thoughts from Indigo is what drew me in, her fearfully fearless background is what kept me reading. There are trigger warnings but it was definitely worth reading to see how far she comes and is willing to go to protect herself and find what a real family/love is. Then you throw in a biker that just wants to make things right for her, I'm SOLD! Now I'm just idly tapping my fingers for the next book!

The FMC is unhinged-rightfully so, her tragic past catches up to her. Her challenges are made unique by her charm and positivity. The chaos that ensues has vibes Sons of Anarchy meets Harley Quinn meets Taken. The book has found family, forced proximity, and coming of age/next life chapter type of tropes. Spice is minimal but I suspect may pick up in book 2. Which I’ll be on the edge of my reading glasses waiting for…

I'd give this 10 stars if I could! Easily one of my favorite books I've read this year and I've read some amazing books. Indigo is one of my favorite characters ever. The true slow burn between her and Preist was incredible. It seriously scratched an itch I didn't know I had.
