Alpha Dragons #1

Omega Captive of the Alpha Dragon

Rate this book
I’ve been sold to an unfriendly foreign land of dragon shifters to become a brood slave.

Tavi is a set-omega, which means he has no inner beast and cannot shift.
Considered worthless by his wolf pack, and with no individual rights, he is sold into slavery along with other set-omegas as they come of age.

Alluresh is a dragon shifter, all business and very little play. His inner dragon is feral and often controls him, shifting inappropriately at times, creating chaos and damage. Others fear him, causing Alluresh to become bitter and reclusive.

All of that changes when a shady friend from his past invites him to an omega auction. Alluresh attends, only to discover his dragon has eyes for one of the omegas for sale, demanding he bid on him or else.

What is Alluresh to do but obey his beast and call out a ridiculously large sum?

Two outcast men learn they might have more in common than they think, and a feral dragon finds his inner heart.

Contemporary omegaverse, alpha/omega, dragon shifter, mpreg/eggpreg, omega heat, knotting, opposites attract, age gap, size difference. This is a sold-into-brood-slavery tale turned romance where everything is consensual with a terribly sweet HEA.

Feels like 2 stars but I won't rate it because I skipped quite a bit. Simple and bland writing, I didn't feel a thing. I don't really have to say much more.
Lets not talk about the cover, either.

« I wanted to be kissed. For real. And it was going to have to be my captor who did it. »

𓆰𓆪 Alluresh doesn’t want a mate, especially not a slave omega. His dragon, Allure, won’t take no for an answer. And once he sees Tavi at the auction, he can’t resist. They have to have him. 𓆰𓆪

I’m quite surprised by how much I enjoyed this.
I was skeptical ‘cause man, that cover wouldn’t be my top pick, but despite the premise, this was actually a very sweet and fluffy romance.
A bit à la Beauty & The Beast — a seemingly scary (but not really) beast, cute bonding moments in a castle, a sprinkle of Stockholm syndrome.

I found Alluresh’s need for complete consent and respect for Tavi’s wishes refreshing.
Given the slave trope, I was expecting some dub-con, some angst, but found a sweet story instead.
The spice was brief so not exactly exciting, but I absolutely LOVED the dragon interactions, especially Tavi and Allure playing tag.

This book just took all my expectations and said ‘nah girl, not today. Take some fluffiness instead’. And I’m not mad about it.

Allure let out another roar, softened, mysterious, a tone I’d never heard before. It no longer sounded feral, empty, or full of fury. It sounded like a roar of belonging. It sounded like a roar of love.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

CW and tropes (spoilers):
- Omegaverse w/ mpreg/eggpreg
- Dragon shifter
- Size difference
- Heat sex
- Opposites attract
- Knotting
- Strict top/bottom

I love dragon shifter books.
This one was quite interesting, had a good setting, but the love connection here didn't convince me.

3 - 3.5⭐ for a nice story of a wealthy dragon shifter getting his Omega mate, but it's nothing new, nothing too exciting and it begs for more development of the overall story.

Tavi that's in the book looks something like this

so forget that cover if it's stopping you from reading the book.

🟣 Omegaverse
🔵 Alpha dragon shifter/wolf omega (set-omega, can't shift)
🟡 Mpreg
🟢 Age gap 19/36
🔵 Sold in a sex slave auction (for breeding)
🟣 Size difference (substantial)
🟡 A recluse Alpha with an untamed dragon (there's constant inner battles between the two)
🟠 A ghastly cover
🌶️ Slow burn, smut near the end; kissing, some oral in passing, penetrative; t/b

As much as the ideas implemented worked for me and I did like the main characters Alluresh, the wealthy dragon shifter who's apparently had a hard life and doesn't really want a mate but his prickly dragon Allure does, and Tavi, the small, long-haired set-omega that's sold to Alluresh to have his egg -- but the author didn't focus as much on bringing that wonderful, passionate connection forward and what was mentioned started bordering on Little play, did I get that right? With the stuffie, the new plush toy, the dragon soaps, the toys, I mean at that point I didn't know what was happening anymore.

It's a very slow burn and the falling in love isn't believable . The story deals with a lot of other things that take time away from the main characters and even so, their budding relationship and growing chemistry should've been more pronounced. I actually couldn't feel it, for the majority of the book it felt like they were just making a business deal and eating together.

There were of course some entertaining parts in the book that made it more readable

“I can feel the egg.”
“Feel? Did you just put your finger up my ass?”
“Yes. It’s coming, baby. Soon I’ll be able to see it against the beauty of your hole.”
“What? That sounds all wrong. Don’t say things like that.”

and a bit of their intimacy told, but the most interesting part wasn't experienced on-page, more time was dedicated to playing with the dragon and having breakfast, to be honest, but I would've liked more of this

"He pouted when the waves left him. “I don’t want it to end.”
I held him close and reassured him I was his alpha now, and I would be there for his every need. We were mates. We were bonding. “It won’t end. I promise.”
He sighed heavily against my chest, his hand between us holding tightly to my cock. He liked to hold it, sometimes even as he slept, as if it gave him a sense of security. Who was I to argue? His small hands on my shaft were heaven."

The real magic somehow just wasn't there and it felt more like a welcomed convenience that all of this happened to them than some grande amour taking place.
At this point the age difference started bothering me, which never happens in monster romance for me, so I'm guessing this pairing just wasn't well presented for my taste.

They had enormous potential, though. Alluresh's character needed to be a bit more fleshed out, I still feel like he's not yet in sync with his dragon and him and Tavi as a couple are still pretty much hiding in his castle, so Tavi's place in the dragon society remains unknown, they're in their small little bubble and that's where the story ends.

I'll read the next installment but I'm not getting my hopes up.

This is an easy, low-angst story that starts out with a very sad beginning. Tavi, a set omega, has been sold by his wolf pack to a slaver representing dragon shifters. Since Tavi cannot shift to a wolf form, his pack considers him worthless except for the money his sale can bring to the pack. Tavi is justifiably frightened about a future in which he can be bred and sold again and again.

Alluresh is a dragon shifter with an eternal dragon, Allure, who behaves in a feral, angry way, shifting erratically and damaging property. When Allure insists that Alluresh attend an upcoming auction to purchase an omega to create an her, Alluresh resists. He finds the idea of purchasing a mate to be fully repugnant. However, Allure insists and forces the decision, choosing Tavi as the omega.

The relationship is handled gently, carefully, with choice, and without force. The slave trade is not glossed over, but the relationship between the two men is beautifully developed and outside the norm of both societies. Tavi also has a close relationship with Allure, fully accepting the dragon form. This story is very satisfying and gives a warm feeling of health, safety, security, and love.

Alluresh is an alpha dragon shifter. His dragon is named Allure. Unlike most shifter series the dragon is in charge, not the human. It isn't clear if that is with every shifter in the world or just Allure and Alluresh's relationship. They are both lonely in a mansion and rarely go out because of Allure's volatility.
Tavi is a non-shifter omega wolf. Because of his not shifter omega status he is deemed as worthless by his pack and sold into slavery. Allure and Alluresh buy Tavi and take him home.
I think this is better described as a MMM book with a non-shifter omega, an alpha dragon shifter, and a dragon. Tavi learns to trust and fall in love with both Allure and Alluresh.
I won't go any further and introduce spoilers but I love the world-building and story. I hope that this becomes a series in the future.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.75 stars

Omega Captive of the Alpha Dragon is one of those books that starts off strong and then somewhere around the second half becomes another story entirely. It left me frustrated as a reader and a tad annoyed.

The dichotomy between Alluresh and his dragon was the most interesting aspect for me. They are two separate entities and Alluresh has little control over the dragon.

I should never judge a book by its title. I’ve overlooked this book many times because I thought the title was strange. I was wrong, it’s wonderful. I was only going to give this book 4 stars, but I just loved the last few chapters so much that I had to give it 5. This is only my second book by Wendy Rathbone and I loved both of them. I’m going to have to change that. What really made this book special for me was the characters. I loved Tavi. He was smart and brave. He opened himself up to Alluresh and wasn’t afraid of Allure. I loved it when he was bonding with his dragon. I’m so glad that there is another book in this series.

Sweet Comfy Read

I really liked this book. Genuinely. I also needed a light hearted easy read.

Tavi a male wolf set-omega is horribly discriminated against due to his inability to shift. He is sold by his pack as a breeder to the dragon shifters and then put up for auction.

Alluresh the male human form/Allure is the male dragon shifter. Alluresh couldn't control his inner dragon and his dragon had decided he wanted an heir and an omega NOW. Alluresh; however did not want an omega due to childhood trauma. Allure got what he wanted but they were proud alphas and intended to take very good care of there omega.
Tavi and Alluresh learn to communicate with one another; honesty being the there guiding light. Each day slowly breaking down there barriers.

MM. Paranormal, Slow burn, Epreg, Spice minimal, Low Angst, HEA

The Best in a Bad Situation

This starts out looking like the worst has happened for poor Tavi but turns into the best he could've ever hoped for. This story for Tavi, Alluresh, and Allure was very interesting to read and I enjoyed it very much. I finished it within a few hours.

i read this book in one stand. It was soo good.
werewolves x dragon was a combination i never read but it was quite worth it a try and im happy i got to know this book.
Alluresh and Tavi were both green flags and Allure, Alluresh's dragon was PERFECT. I trusted his gut since the beginning I KNEW or a fact he was not going against his human form in a mean way.
He was my favourite out of the three.
Alluresh was such a good alpha and sooo caring even when he didn't have to.
SPOILER
i have a feeling Allure was being mean to Alluresh about Tavi just to make him realise his feelings for their mate. The way Tavi fell in love for the both of them even after all the bad reputation they had>>>>>
i loved Tavi's powerful character and the way he always showed no fears in front of everything he was facing even tho he was scared for his life. ANd when he startred showing his real feelings just to Alluresh omggg.
RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

This is an enjoyable book to read.

Even though I was not too fond of the beginning of this book, it worked its way under my skin. Allure the dragon is the funny one in this book. He's the beast that is a terror but he is the one with the sideline comments that make you laugh.

This was a chore to get through

Listen, I love Wendy Rathborn as much as the next mpreg girly. I'm also the exact target audience for this book I love character-focusd stories, I adore mprag and omegaverse, and if you throw in dragons and eggpreg, mama, I'm home. But baby, it's been a hot minute since I have been this bored reading a book practically written for me.

I'm not one to ever complain about slower moving stories that forgo plot in honor of really in-depth character and emotional development where the plot is them falling in love. A very point A to point b type of deal. But did point A and point b have to be so far apart and did the land have to be so flat because when I tell you there is zero conflict in the story, it's actually quite astounding. And I don't mean zero conflict to where it's insta-love, that I could understand. I'm talking there's no conflict to the point that you don't understand why they're not falling for each other or why they're not trying for a relationship. Because all that's really going on here is Toby doesn't want to be here and Alluresh is an emo kid fighting with his dragon.

That's another thing about this book, The shifter logic. Most shifter bugs all have something to say about the inner animal fighting with the human but still understood that they are the same person. That's not the case here. Alluresh and Allure are two entirely separate beings occupying the same body. It's odd. Not odd enough to make the story interesting. But just a weird point that should add conflict but doesn't. There was even a point where I was hoping that Allure would be more destructive and domineering and he is to a degree but it's all internal so I hate to ask but I have to ask, what was the point?

And then, when the romance finally happened it didn't feel like these two fell in love so much as Tavi went into heat and Alluresh finally accepted being an alpha and that's why they're in love. These two barely interacted or said words to each other so it doesn't feel earned or born from natural progression. It just felt out of place and required because this is a romance.

There's also only one smut scene in here and it is the heat scene. I only have two notes about it. It was long and there was too much talking. And not in the fun way.

Yeah, I don't know what happened here because I really do love this author. She's got a ton of books that I've really enjoyed. But this was a huge miss for me. I know that Wendy is an author who is very light and sugary sweet these days but I can't really say this was sweet because again, our characters barely interacted and when they did it was so stilted and boring. The pacing also wasn't great and the descriptions, while always on the flowerier side, became overbearing. I'm really sad to say this but two stars because with nothing to follow or root for this was a little painful to read.

This was a freebie from the Romance Bookworms' annual Stuff Your Kindle event.

In the beginning I was most interested in Tavi, the shift-less wolf omega who had been sold to the dragons as a breeder by his asshole clan. After a while, though, I was more fascinated by his alpha, Alluresh. He is a dragon shifter unlike any other I've read about, constantly at war with his inner dragon Allure and not understanding why. Allure refuses to listen to Alluresh, and regularly forces shifts and smashes whole structures with his huge body.

As a result, the rest of dragon society looks down on Alluresh for his lack of control, and he's isolated himself on a large estate and handles his finance business remotely. He's super awkward when he brings his new acquisition Tavi home, and after a while, Tavi has to overcome his fear and draaag Alluresh into communicating his expectations properly. So he does. And they bond.

DNF. The extreme age gap and the disturbing "brood slave" trope were deeply unsettling. The idea of a 19-year-old being "purchased" and then falling in love with their owner is deeply problematic and not something I can condone. I initially tried reading the second book in this series but couldn't continue. Unfortunately, this one didn't work for me either due to the problematic nature of the relationship.

The blurb gives a good base for the story in this book. Tavi is sold to dragon shifter Alluresh (with the adamant insistence of his dragon Allure) to be bred and provide an heir. Alluresh is uncomfortable with buying a human, even if it is acceptable in his culture, and he worries about Tavi’s consent in the situation, not usual at all! As Alluresh and Tavi get to know a bit about each other while waiting for Tavi’s heat to arrive, Alluresh questions Tavi on what rules he wants to follow during his heat, and Tavi asks the same, so the two negotiate the parameters to follow, thus setting up the consent. Tavi also feels it is important to meet Allure (Alluresh’s dragon) and get to know him before the heat. One visual which sticks in my mind is a large dragon playing Follow the Leader with human Tavi as the leader, Allure trotting behind a running and giggling Tavi as they roam the vast estate. Allure’s angry and dangerous side becomes softer around Tavi, always aware of this smaller being it would be so easy to injure.

The book has all three characters (even though Allure and Alluresh are a shared being, each is very much their own self) feeling unworthy and rejected, Tavi because he is a “worthless” set omega, Alluresh/Allure because they had been abandoned and raised in foster care and Alluresh had to work very hard to become successful, while Allure was very stand-offish, didn’t like anyone, and was mostly angry and out of control. After buying Tavi, Alluresh raises the issue of consent related to the heat and possible pregnancy, and over time there is the growth of each as they become more accepting of each other and themselves in this new dynamic.

I really enjoy Wendy’s writing and the variety in her stories, and this book was no exception. Characters were interesting individually and in their interactions with each other (enjoyed the mind interactions between Allure and Alluresh a lot). The plot was one that is out there but the treatment was individual enough to hold my interest as it all unfolded and the love between the characters developed and grew. This was an engaging story and one I would recommend if you like dragon shifters or Wendy’s writing specifically. An entertaining afternoon read.

I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.

Enjoyable omegaverse captor-slave dragon shifter/wolf non-shifter story

I always enjoy this author’s stories, and while this one isn’t as intense and high in romantic conflict as some, making it feel a little muted for me, I still spent a good few hours engaged in the characters and world. It's surprisingly sweet, given the scenario.

It is a bought-slave premise, with one MC, Tavi, being both reviled by his wolf pack for being born a “set-omega” aka an omega without shifting abilities, but also valued because they can auction him off for quite a lot of money to alphas who want a breeder. Then there’s Alluresh, a reclusive alpha-dragon shifter whose dragon, Allure, is utter chaos and won’t be controlled by anyone, which makes Alluresh isolated, but also greatly feared and quite powerful in his milieu.

Tavi’s fears and resignation to his fate combined with Alluresh’s reluctant “I would never buy a slave” stance faced with Allure’s BUY HIM NOW HE IS THE ONE TO BEAR MY YOUNG demands become engaging and entertaining, and what I appreciated most was that their relationship became a slow-burn, get to know you scenario, because Alluresh was adamant he did not want to pressure Tavi or take advantage of the power imbalance. Seeing him find a way to get true consent was endearing and hopeful for them.

The story still features the author’s steamy attraction and connection between the heroes, plus adorable elements of Alluresh trying to please Tavi and Allure the dragon melting for his chosen mate. They find their way from the forced master-slave situation into a true partnership, though it’s clouded by there seeming to be no way this society will ever move from its oppressive and abusive treatment of set-omegas into equalizing rights for everyone. So that was a bit of a dimmer, but, Rathbone makes it clear that Alluresh will fight in the future to accept only equal treatment for Tavi. Could make for an interesting sequel.

HEA, captor-slave, dragon shifter, wolf shifter who can’t shift, Mpreg (eggs), omegaverse. Absolutely no cheating or OM action of any kind. Chaos dragon! I enjoyed it, though it wasn’t as gripping as other romances by this author. Still, she tells a good story. Recommended.

“I want you in my bed. And afterward, I’ll keep the spreads and sheets with your first-time scent in my private hoard as my most valuable of treasures.”

I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I'm used to omegaverse stories where omegas were considered lesser and had little or no rights. This felt worse in a way that there are a class of omegas born without an inner animal and thus deemed worthless except as breeders and sold off to other species who needed omegas. Tavi didn't bother to fight against his alpha selling him off, who claimed he was doing a service and the funds would benefit the pack. Alluresh's dragon, Allure, was out of his control- and the one controlling him instead of it being the other way around. I was fascinated by this concept and of Allure's very strong personality.

'I was different from other alpha dragon shifters. While they controlled their dragons and lived fairly peaceful lives under the rigid rules of the flight, I did not. Allure controlled me. I had little say as to when or where he would shift, fearsome and angry and wanting to burn. I was the animal in our relationship.'

I was sad that because of that he had to live alone and no one wanted to be around him. I like the way the relationship between Tavi, Alluresh, and Allure developed. Tavi and Alluresh spent more time together. I liked Tavi's first meeting with Allure, and absolutely loved their games of tag. I also liked that Tavi treated Allure as if he were a third person in their relationship- giving value to his feelings and wants.

I was hooked to this story. My only regret was I wished for an in-person reunion with Tavi's father. This was a parent who loved their child but could do nothing to change his fate. I would have loved to see him and Tavi not only reunited, but to meet the baby, and Alluresh/Allure. 5 stars.

OMEGA CAPTIVE OF THE ALPHA DRAGON is a surprisingly low-angst story, although you would be forgiven for thinking otherwise.

Tavi is a set Omega, in other words, he doesn't have an animal to shift into. Alluresh almost wishes he didn't, as Allure, his dragon half is almost feral and controls the shifts, causing lots of damage both to buildings and to Alluresh's self confidence. It is Allure who wants Tavi, not Alluresh - who finds the whole slave trade repugnant and degrading - but once again, Allure gets his way and Tavi becomes theirs. And this is where the fun really starts. Alluresh refuses to just 'claim' and Tavi wants a relationship before his heat. They spend time together and a wish list of sorts comes to life. What I loved was that Tavi spent time with both Allure and Alluresh, having feelings for both of them.

This was a relationship outside society's rules for all of them, and it worked perfectly. I loved Alluresh's realisation that something in particular wouldn't work before he even asked Tavi about it and put Tavi's feelings first.

This story is sweet, cute, and steamy, even considering the subject matter which I thought was handled perfectly. I really hope we return to this world. Absolutely adorable and definitely recommended by me.

The omegas in Wendy Rathbone's omegaverses have it hard. Second class citizens at best. In this universe, it's worse. If an omega can't shift, if they lack the shifter gene, they are viewed as property, a walking womb. On the ladder of power, they haven't even touched the bottom rung.
Tavi is filled with anger at his former pack. They're too busy counting the money and his omega father is powerless to help him. Alluresh can't control his dragon, Allure. Allure forces the change whenever Alluresh annoys him. They keep the clan construction crews in business, as Allure's form can't be contained indoors. With Alluresh's help Tavi comes to understand his worth is more than a womb. And Tavi unites alpha and dragon. For the first time they are a team, protecting the omega mate that fate brought them.
The worldbuilding is great. And original. Secondaries are remote, background. Tavi starts out as demure, rather downtrodden and Alluresh is all stiff disapproval. Allure is an annoying know it all. The alpha and omega develop nicely. Allure remains a slightly less annoying know it all.
I enjoyed the story. It was a quick, fun read. They live in a castle and one of the primaries is a dragon. What more could you want?

Two outcasts that come together but not knowing if they are the right fit for each other. Will they be able to come together and make things work? If they communicate and get to know each other, it just might happen.

I loved Tavi and how he stood up for himself. He knows that he cannot shift and is not a fit for his wolf pack but to be sold like he was, he wasn't okay with that. When he is set to be sold, he can't help but stare at Alluresh but he also doesn't want to stand out either.

Alluresh can't believe that he was forced to the auction to find someone to possibly mate with so that he can have an heir however when his eyes land on Tavi, his dragon tells him that he is the one. He has no choice but to listen to his dragon.

Alluresh is hiding a secret and only a couple of people know his deep hidden secret but the more Tavi and him spend together, the more that Tavi keeps poking at him to let him see his dragon side. What happens next was not what Alluresh was expecting.

I loved this story and the main MC's. I loved the slow burn and how they really got to know each other. You could feel the connection forming between the two.

3.7/5

I don’t love that the MMC bought the mMC at auction and I really didn’t like the way his dragon spoke about owning him and taking whatever he wanted. I much prefer grumpy human/softy animal (This MMC was grumpy/grumpy). That ameliorated somewhat since he freed the mMC from his literal chains and loved him before they had sex. But I’m being nitpicky. It was a nice dislike-to-lovers OV with knotting, nesting, and egg laying. Some found family too. I also like that the mMC forgave his father and spoke with him. It was cozy.
Look, it isn’t Amy Bellows, but it was still enjoyable.

OV. Age gap (36 x 19). Opposites attract. MM, alpha and omega. Set omega mMC (wolf shifter with no wolf and can’t shift). Wild, rich, reclusive, dangerous dragon shifter MMC. Purchased omega. Virgin mMC. MMC never been with an omega before. First Knotting. Heat. Mpreg. Egg pregnancy. Egg laying. Love develops over a summer and into fall. Epilogue with their egg hatching and the dragon meeting their little alpha baby boy. No OMD/OWD. No cheating. No breakup. Consent. Freeing of set omega.

Trigger warnings: abandoned/sold by the pack. Abandoned at birth/foster care (MMC). thoughts of suicide (MMC). Sold as a broodmare (mMC). Purchased a broodmare (MMC). Descriptive egg laying.

Absolutely fantastic!

This book is amazing and I loved it! Wendy gives us the wonderful story of Tavi, an omega wolf shifter with no wolf and Alluresh, a dragon shifter who can’t seem to control his dragon and how the two end up together. Alluresh is led by his dragon, Allure, to get Tavi who has been sent away by his pack. He doesn’t want to but can’t fight the dragon’s urging and soon he is taking Tavi home. Things are tense at first but the more time they spend together, the more they get to know each other and begin to enjoy being together. Allure is pushy at times and I love how he and Alluresh go back and forth with their conversations, sometimes out loud for Tavi to hear. It will be his dragon that shows Allure the truth of his feelings for Tavi and when he is honest with Tavi about how he feels, Alluresh will find out that Tavi feels the same. It will break the bond between them that Alluresh has been uncomfortable with and form a whole new one full of love that will lead them to find that while they are outcasts alone, together they are the perfect family.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Nicely developed novella.

I like the books I've read by this author, and this one is no different. For a novella, it hits on some sensitive, serious, and dark issues. It's surprisingly (in a good way) developed, with depth and feeling.

I would have enjoyed seeing steps taken to change how set-omegas are treated (or even just a discussion about what can be done), but that doesn't happen.

Tavi and Alluresh's relationship does not start off volatile or traumatic. Yes, Tavi is auctioned and has to go through that humiliation and degradation, but Alluresh doesn't like it or add to it. He even steps in before it can get worse. But, he is there, and he does buy Tavi, so those are the obstacles that they both have to overcome. Alluresh never treats Tavi poorly. He never pressures him or lords over him. And he provides for Tavi everything he needs, and then some. Their relationship is slowly built and develops into love before they get physical, which I needed to see due to the situation they're in. It wouldn't have felt right or fully consensual if it'd happened any other way.

This is also technically written well, which is (sadly) rare these days.

I really enjoyed this story with the two men who had far more in common than they realised. I loved how out of control Alluresh's dragon was and yet he was putty in Tavi's hands. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and MPREG.
