It was ok. Most of this book was worth it simply for the art included (this was an odd edition, it has the form and format of a coffee-table book, but the content is a Summary of Christianity, something you might assign to undergraduate students at a Christianese College like CIU or Liberty or Grand Canyon. The content is quite Cynical; Owen Chadwick several times sides with secularism on controversial issues such as the resurrection or the historicity of Genesis, which I believe is a bit biased and uncalled for in a Church Historian.

Bottom line? Don't read this for the words. I'm wondering about how good his "The Reformation" is going to be; it has quite the reputation but judging by this book...anyway. Read. it for the paintings, which are gorgeous.

An overview has to make certain concessions in order to cover ground. If you have to do that, I think the way Chadwick did is a good way to go.

A quick read. The artwork is wonderful. Some of the history seems a little spotty in places.
