This was the first time reading a book by this author. Interesting accounts of park rangers recording on the unusual things they have seen . Worth checking out these stories
It reads like an FBI report, mostly redacted, if we are to believe these "eyewitness" reports there is no room in the National Parks for normal creatures, these "Unknowns" must be bumping in to each other left and right.
These are supposed to be to be true stories told by many different individuals. However, if that is the case then each of these “individuals” have the exact same style of writing, word choices, phrase construction and sentence structure. In other words, it is blatantly obvious that this book was written entirely by one person and not by different individuals who had experienced phenomena and were reporting what they had seen and heard. So, if you like short (very short) stories that are supposed to be creepy and scary, give it a read. You may like it. But, if you’re like me and really wanted first hand accounts of bizarre and unusual events witnessed by professionals in the field of National Parks and places like that then you may want to pass on this one.
This is a haunting book about ranger encounters with cryptids, UFOs, paranormal phenomena and more. They are in a unique position, working in the wild. These encounters have shaken many. The heartfelt testimonials show how deeply many have been touched. I hope more stories will be shared. It is not wise to solo hike or take trails off the beaten path.
I wanted to give this book more stars but the more I read these" encounters", they turned out to be more like stories. These stories alone went on forever and it was hard to believe these encounters to be true with the way they were told. Instead of it being told as by the person it felt like the author was trying to make a book \ story out of all the encounters and made it less believe able.
I was really looking forward to reading this book has I have a big interest in the supernatural. I did find myself skipping over bits as a lot of parts seemed repetitive. The writing style also put me off and made me feel like the book was more fiction than non-fiction which is a shame.
Clearly not written or told by NPS or any land management agency staff. Big gaps in logic, and a lot of "haunting ember eyes" and ghastly skinned creatures that "haunt my dreams" kind of writing. Feels like the exact same acid trip repeated with bigfoot, dogman, aliens variations.
This series of books covers odd things happening in forests but not necessarily linking them to specific cryptids. This one includes small humanoid creatures, thin creatures carrying boxes, Bigfoot, Dogman, some kind of voices, tall aliens, a skinwalker and a whole bunch of others. It's pretty standard material in the field.
Earlier in my career, I worked at a national recreation area, 170,000 acres and at night when it was darkest of skies, your mind can go to places. I can appreciate the stories and the mysteries. I'm just glad I didn't read these stories on those nights.
