A Deeper Dive into the Arcane: Department of Dungeon Studies 2

J. Pal continues to weave a captivating tale in Department of Dungeon Studies 2. This sequel delves deeper into the intricate world of magic and alchemy, offering readers a thrilling continuation of Nox's journey.

  What I Loved:

Rich World-Building: The world of the Department of Dungeon Studies continues to expand, with new locations and intriguing characters. The author's vivid descriptions bring this magical academy to life.

Compelling Character Development: Nox, the protagonist, undergoes significant growth, both in terms of his magical abilities and his personal relationships. His journey is both inspiring and relatable.

Intriguing Plot: The plot is filled with twists and turns, keeping readers engaged. The introduction of new challenges and mysteries adds depth and complexity to the story.

Detailed Magic System: The unique magic system, involving the cultivation of a solar system within one's core, remains fascinating. The author's detailed explanations make it easy to understand and appreciate.

  What Could Have Been Better:

While the book is overall enjoyable, some readers might find the pacing to be a bit slow at times, particularly during the character development sections.

  Overall:

Department of Dungeon Studies 2 is a must-read for fans of LitRPG and fantasy. It offers a blend of action, adventure, and character development that will keep readers hooked. If you enjoyed the first book, you'll undoubtedly appreciate this sequel.

Nox is enough of a butt that I realised I didn’t want to read about him any more. About 20% DNF.

Sometime during this book the magic system clicked and made so much more sense, absolutely love the idea of the magic system I think it’s so cool!

This book has also been rather motivating academically? Nox being so academically focused as a character makes him heavily relatable and his motivations are very easy to follow throughout the book! Also, the way he attempts to accomplish tasks through different avenues (relying on alchemy / his brain in combat as opposed to pure combat potential) makes for such a fun read

Overall, I’m loving how the series is developing thus far and I look forward to seeing how the different magic systems develop and change over time!

Ohhhh man I loved this second book in the series. It's by J Pal and it's about a student learning to make his alchemic potions even more powerful and at the same time running a business making enough money to not only pay for his tuition but all the employees that he hired. With his family and a couple of backers fronting the business. All he has to do is pull off a miracle or two to grow the wealth. And of course delve deep into dungeons and rifts. Leveling up his skills along with his friends and with the help of Otis his gremlin familiar and a bunch of squirrels they delve deep, tackling monsters and bosses that they probably shouldn't take on... Oh and what goin-on with Bi Xi?
Go grab the audiobook Eric Jason Martin’s voice is perfect. Besides it's an academy book, I know you love those too! ❤

Here's a quote that amused me:

“I’ve heard the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else,”

Not as good as book one but still very solid

So I kind of feel like the story's been a bit rushed this really should probably have been two books with some more growth in there there was very little focus on the growth of the protagonist like there was on book one which I really enjoyed

Are you ready for another round of carnal activities? Do you feel the need to read about hips gently caressing the loins of the main character? Do you prefer yet another romance masquerading as a fantasy adventure? Then this is the book for you!

Sweet Jesus Christ, I feel dirty after reading only 20% of this book.

I liked the story as I was reading it, but as I'm typing this 2 weeks after finishing it, I can't really remember the full story.

I think the first book was better, and I'll try book 3 when it comes out before deciding if I'll continue the series or not.

Time for another Mark of the Fool knockoff.

I enjoyed this and finished it faster than I realised. Don't know where the series is going after this, but I will pick up the sequel.

Very enjoyable

This book was every bit as good as its predecessor, with plenty of interesting things happening, real challenges, real growth, and persistent editing problems. Without those, I would’ve given this five stars.

Awesome Stuff

Very Unique magic system. This story of a disinherited prince who uses his alchemy to make his own fortune to go to a magical academy was a fantastic read.

overall good book

The end of the dungeon problem left me with mixed feelings. It was very abrupt. All this happens now it’s done and here is the aftermath. It really left me feeling “Wait what?!”
Overall good book. I don’t know if I will read the next book.

Nox Ratra and friends have finished their semester at Woodson University and are ready for some relaxation and fun - or what passes for it for them. Heading out of town, Kris leads the gang on their next adventure before they return to school and are once more caught up in the politics of the world.

For the most part this book was great. But I got attached to the characters and I start to get annoyed when author's begin to Which conversely means the writer has written a decent enough book to get me hooked, so clearly not a bad thing in a way.

The plot was action packed and full of political manoeuvrings, scientific inquiries and dungeon diving fun. I loved how many projects they all have on the go and I enjoy the theory behind the magic system. I came to really adore Lillin in this one. She really comes into her own in this book, developing more of her own quirks and personality and I was rating it.

It's not a perfect book but it's a decent litrpg with an interesting and unique magic system and fun characters. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 stars.
