Inner Identity

Rate this book
- The past she can't remember hasn't forgotten her. -

Nova’s powers kept her alive when she set off bombs to save Visalia, but now she’s alone in a stolen body with the screams of the dead still in her ears, and no one knows she’s survived.

Can she find Cayde or Eric before Crowley finds her? And if she can, will they recognize her in this stolen skin or will they, like her, only see a stranger?

Meanwhile, someone is sending Nova psychic messages, the public has turned against powered people, and OxyComm transceivers are being installed across the nation. When Nova has a vision of a doomed future, she decides she can’t avoid using her powers anymore. But even if she can master her abilities in time, it may not be enough to stop the bloody outcome she’s seen.

Her past is catching up with her, and David Crowley may prove to be the least of her worries once it does.

If you enjoy action-packed dramas like The Umbrella Academy that feature fun banter, romance, morally gray characters, and a diverse cast of found family, The Identity Saga is for you.

Inner Identity picks up where Powered Identity leaves off and it keeps you turning the pages to find out how in the world Nova is going to get back to her friends, especially Cayde, who still thinks Nova is dead and is not handling her loss very well at all… (which is completely understandable).

What I loved most about this book is that you really experience the character’s emotions and struggles and it sucks you into the story. I wanted our heroes to come out on top and get closer to their happy endings every step of the way. Though I did enjoy hearing from more characters in the story other than Nova, and I felt the pace was well done, sometimes I did wish there weren’t so many different POVs (though they were interesting). I just wanted to get back to Nova's (and Cayde’s) POV to find out what was going on with them. My heart was breaking so much for Cayde and I was impatient for them to be reunited. I did enjoy the friendship immensely between Nova and Eric, it’s very wholesome, even with a new development that I suspected was coming for quite some time. I also love Bunny so much and wish I could have one of her peanut butter cookies!

Inner Identity is a fantastic addition to the Identity Saga (and my favorite!). It’s a must-read for anyone who loves superpowers, evil villains who really should go to therapy for daddy issues, and stories with mystery and suspense nicely woven in. I can’t wait for the next book to find out what’s next for Nova’s journey and how everything will come to a close.

Holy wow that was worth the wait.

First, I have to talk about the big baddie and his backstory. Without spoilers, I'll just say I love me some morally gray, and Crowley has me feeling for him now despite the absolute bastard he's been throughout the series. I blame Long John Silver for my love of misunderstood antagonists. Anyway, his backstory and ARC alone is five stars for me.

Nova, dear Nova. I loved her in the first book, got a little frustrated with her the second, and the third? Welp, I'm obsessed. I'm ride or die for her whatever happens.

Relationships got so deep in this book, and I'm so here for it.

Stakes got more intense even though I didn't think it was possible.

Also, that epilogue 😭.

This is a very vague review, but I don't know how to be more specific with spoilers, so I'll just say Tenaya has mastered her craft and cemented herself as a skilled storyteller in my book. Auto buy forever.

Also, if you find yourself intrigued but have begun Nova's story, you can grab the first book in the series for 99 cents this week.

Don't miss out, folks.

I have just finished this book. In one sitting on a rainy Saturday afternoon, I read the last two-hundred-ish pages. I am processing a looooot right now.

First of all, I'd like to say, what a fantastic story. Tenaya handles the portrayal of PTSD so realistically, it's refreshing. I cannot think of many superhero stories (that I've experienced, anyway), which focus on the toll of taking on the enemy, especially when the result of the battle is death.

I'd also like to mention that I gasped OUT LOUD several times during this book. 😂 The twists were great. Some moments were truly dire and made me panic that Tenaya was going to kill the/a main protagonist(s). And then when she did kill someone... well, if they truly are dead 👀... I sort of sat there for a moment in shock. However, as mentioned (though I could be wrong!), something tells me there's more to this death than meets the cold, dead eyes. (Sorry, couldn't help myself.)

Second, I'll talk about the main cast.

Nova is a brilliant protagonist. From her ongoing moral dilemma, to her sense of humour, to the desperation, and the flickers of hope, I thoroughly enjoyed the complexity of her character. She remains one of my favourite book heroines, and I am very eager to see what she does in Book #4. I'm also rearing to know about her past, especially after the third act and epilogue's reveals...

Cayde's journey was something I'd anticipated to take a 'Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes'-esque turn. Although it didn't hit the expected mark, the old Cayde is certainly gone, and this new, darker, anti-heroic take? *Chef's kiss.* I have several thoughts about where his new stance on things - life... and death (or killing) - could wind him up as the series progresses.

Eric is fantastic, and I was very happy about a particular revelation he had. I look forward to seeing this expanded upon in Book #4. 👀 His and Nova's friendship - furthermore, their bond - is so powerful, it certainly is a contender against Nova and Cayde's relationship. Hm...

I'd like to finish by saying that this is my favourite book in the Identity Saga so far. Tenaya's writing continues to draw me into what is becoming a mad, wicked world, and I very much look forward to reading about what Nova and the gang will do to combat such a powerful threat.

(I also have this strange feeling about an alliance between Nova and David in the future, but I could be wrong... we'll see.)

I devoured this story. I read it a week, which for me is super fast. Why? Well, it's un-putdownable. Like, melting-cheese-falling-from-your-sandwich-because-you-cannot-multitask-but-its-worth-it un-putdownable. The writing flows beautifully, elegant enough to draw you in and make you believe in this superpowered world but it is never distracting. And those characters, dang, I will root for them right up until they get their happy ending and then I be there for the celebratory margaritas.

Nova is my fave snarky heroine of all time, and it’s cool to see her training to use her powers, exploring the benefits of them. And I loved that Nova (and the reader) got to learn more about herself before her powers first tore her from her body—though she doesn’t know who she was before, she gets these glimpses that make us smile and yearn for more. I also liked learning more about the main villains and their origin stories. Oh, and I have to mention the beautiful relationships and friendships, especially Nova and Eric’s, which are so heartwarming.

This is an action-packed superhero story that totally lives up to the high bar set by first two books. It draws you in, sometimes breaks your heart (in a good way), and always shines a light on just how epic true friendship is. Get amongst it people!

I was lucky to read this book pre-release and it was an emotional rollercoaster! Picking up after Powered Identity's cliffhanger, Nova is faced with new challenges, separated from her friends. Eric was the true highlight of the book for me, I loved him more and more with every page, but every character is so delightfully complex that even the villains—Crowley(s) and others (dun dun!)—tugged at my heart in some way or another. Reading this felt like a love letter to friendship, to love itself, exploring the intricacies of grief, trauma, and growth. Tenaya MKD has delivered another stellar read; I finished this book just four days before release and I'm already anxiously awaiting book 4!

Oh man this might’ve been my favorite in the whole identity series so far!
I loved how much you find out about so many of the characters, plus so many new elements that keep you guessing and forming theories.
I loved how nova started to really find and accept herself as well as her abilities in this book. I was so enamored just from the small bits of her past we finally learn in this one and can’t wait to hopefully know more!
I’m such a fan of Tenaya’s writing, her descriptions are easy to picture and she makes you feel all the emotions going on with everybody.
I can’t wait for the next one, highly recommend picking this series up!

I usually have a hard time getting back into a series when reading the next book but I was wrapped up in the story again from the very first page. I also very clearly remembered the ending of Book 2 (which is not always a given with me😄). All of the different POVs were so well written and made me even more eager to read on. There were quite some surprises in store and I'm so glad Bunny was in it again😊 In the middle, the plot slowed down a little, but it made room to explore some other new developments (*cough* Eric). A well-written third establishment and I really am so very excited for Book 4! 😁❤️

It's all about the Power; who has it? Who can take it? Who can hold onto it? Who can take it back? To what end(s)? From scorching start, to misty conclusion, Inner Identity powers up the vacuum, sucking the reader in on an action- packed journey of twists and turns, with Nova and company seeking to find themselves, whilst saving the world as we know it. When the power is finally switched off, the main residual thought..how long until book 4?

This was the best “Identity” book yet! The interpersonal relationships were really explored and explained, we got some historical perspectives that added to understanding the characters better. I could go on and on about the psychological perspectives, but that would ruin the story- best to just read it yourself! Highly recommended, but best if you start the series from the beginning.

Nova has survived but will others recognize her? She has to decide whether or not to use her powers to help avoid a future of doom but can she master them in time? This is a fast-paced, action-packed adventure which doesn't disappoint the reader. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I just finished the third book in the Identity Saga, and this book hit hard. The characters just keep getting deeper and more complex as the series goes on, and you'll want to stick around to the very end and read the epilogue. If I say anything more about that, I'll end up spoiling it.
Total reading time 10 hours 50 minutes.

I got to read a copy of this early and I can't wait for everyone else to get their hands on it so we can discuss that thing that happens at the end. That thing where one character and the other character are in *that* scene together. It's so hard not to talk about.
