Thanks to Book Sirens for an ARC of this book. I enjoyed Dane and Sten’s stories so I assumed I would like this one, but I was very disappointed. Arne is Dane’s younger brother, and like the rest of the family, he expects to mate for life. He meets Jinn under inauspicious circumstances as she shoots a crossbow at a deer on his family's land and barely misses Arne. The deer is killed, but Jinn runs and Arne chases her. She puts up a fight and he knocks her out. It's only then that he discovers she's a woman, so he takes her home to figure out what's going on.

Long story short, Jinn and her sister Kip are on the run from sex traffickers. Both are terrified of Arne and want to bolt. His patience is boundless and he convinces them he won't hurt them. He senses that Jinn is his mate. As the two girls (20 & 14 years old) come to trust Arne, Jinn begins to fear that he may be in danger. Naturally, Arne’s family agrees to help eliminate the threat to the girls so they can safely stay there.

Normally, I can suspend my disbelief for the sake of a compelling story, but not this time. I had multiple problems with the plot. Jinn was sold to the trafficker when she was 13 (7 years ago) and has been raped and abused since then. At some point, Kip ended up with her—I assume their father sold her too—but even though she's already 14, she hasn't yet been raped. Why not? She clearly represented another stream of revenue and these guys were heartless, so why was she spared?

Two goons come to town looking for the girls, but they've been hidden at the farm. Arne decides to take the girls clothes shopping in the city, somehow forgetting they live in a small town and anyone who sees them in the car with him will gossip. With all of the mail order options available, why would he take this chance? Predictably, town gossip leads the goons to the farm.

Jinn stopped attending school at 13 when she became a sex slave—again 7 years ago! I'm not sure how long Kip was with her but she certainly didn't attend more school than that. They were locked in a windowless basement cell with no books, no TV, no socializing, and so on. Apparently, whenever Jinn found magazines she brought them to try to teach Kip how to read. Does that mean she couldn't read? And with so little education, how was Jinn able to use the phrase “villainous lasciviousness”? I just think they would have been at such a disadvantage after so much time that it’s not credible they would fit in so quickly and easily.

Jinn was so accustomed to abuse that every time she feared Arne, she'd drop to her knees in front of him, offering herself up to him if he just wouldn't hurt Kip. Not long after she realizes he's safe, she starts initiating intimate contact with him. This was a little hard for me to believe. She asks if they're in a “relationship,” and Arne says it's the beginning of one. Then he talks about dating, and she wonders what that's like. This next part blew me away:

“‘You've never been on a date? How old are you?’ It wasn't something he had thought about until now.”

Are you kidding me? Who would have taken her on a date?! He never thought about it? She was sold at 13!!

After they upgrade security at Arne’s trailer, Jinn teaches Kip how to check the cameras on Arne’s computer, how to load and fire his gun, and how to fight back if she is (sic) grabbed.” How did Jinn know how to do all of these things? I can see it's possible she learned how to check the computer and she already knew how to fight back, but let's remember she's been locked away for 7 years so she isn't exactly tech savvy. And how could she know so much about guns? And that made me wonder, how did she know how to use a crossbow? Inexplicable skills.

There's a scene where Arne and Jinn are fooling around in the bathroom, one of the few places they can find privacy. Again, I'm having trouble with the whole sex thing between them because of the trauma she experienced, but okay. The description doesn't make sense.

He pushes her against the counter, and her head hits the cabinet. Then he lifts her onto the counter and she has her hands behind her. It sounds like the author is describing a kitchen counter with a cabinet on the wall. I've never seen this in a bathroom. And remember, backing her up to the counter causes her head to hit the cabinet. So, it can't be too high up or too far back. But that means there isn't a whole lot of space for her to sit, and putting her hands back just isn't realistic.

And finally, I want to complain about the goons looking for the girls. They're cartoonish and cliche. I found it hard to take them seriously because they were so two-dimensional and flat.

I feel like the author had an opportunity to delve into sex trafficking and the long-term effects it has on its victims, but failed to do that. Instead, the experiences of Jinn and Kip were just plot points to create drama, with bad guys the brothers needed to conquer.

There is one thing I appreciated in this book that was different from Dane. This time, the history of the Ulvmand family and how they became wolf shifters is available at the end of the book, its own chapter called Origin Story. I much prefer this to the way it was shoehorned into the ARC of Dane's story. Hopefully, that was also changed before publication, but I don't know.

As I said earlier, I enjoyed the other two books in this series, but I can't say I'd recommend this one. I'm considering it a one-off for this author, who has demonstrated skill in other books. I'm still interested in her other books.

Arne is the second book in the Sköll Ranch Shifter romance series. It continues the story of the Ulvmand family, a family of shifters. The origin of their shifter abilities is explained in the first book and also included at the end of this book. The story focuses on Arne Ulvmand and his budding relationship with Jinn.

Jinn and her younger sister, Kip, are on the run from a dangerous man. After an incident where Jinn shoots Arne with a crossbow, Arne finds them hiding in an abandoned mine and offers them shelter in his home. Jinn is distrustful of men due to past trauma, but Arne's kindness and patience slowly begin to win her over. Arne experiences an unusual shivering sensation whenever Jinn touches him, a phenomenon that his family attributes to finding one's fated mate. Jinn and Kip's past eventually catches up with them when their former captors track them down and break into Arne's home. Arne's family rallies to protect them and help bring their pursuers to justice. The story also explores themes of family, trust, and finding love after trauma.

Arne is a kind and patient cowboy who falls for Jinn. He enjoys creating metal art and working on the family ranch. He is portrayed as a popular and outgoing person, but the women he has encountered recently run from him, a situation he finds confusing.
Jinn is a strong and resourceful woman who is initially wary of Arne due to her traumatic past. She is protective of her younger sister, Kip. Jinn gradually opens up to Arne and discovers the power of love and family. She shows surprising aptitude for spell-weaving.
Kip is Jinn's younger sister. Kip is more trusting than Jinn and quickly warms up to Arne and his family.
The rest of Ulvmand Family is Arne's boisterous and supportive family and they play a significant role in the story, offering protection and acceptance to Jinn and Kip. They are protective of each other and provide comic relief with their banter.

The book is a fast-paced and engaging read, blending romance with elements of suspense and fantasy. The characters are well-developed, and the dynamics between Arne, Jinn, and Kip are compelling. The shifter aspect of the story adds a unique element, though it is not heavily explored in this installment.

Fascinating contemporary small-town romance on a ranch in Oklahoma
For me, this was a book that I could not wait to return to when life interrupted. That is how I gauge a 5-star book. This is an intriguing view of a shifter family contrary to the typical shifter story. Many generations ago, a spell was cast which allowed them to turn into wolves to protect their mates. The Sorceress who cast this spell did it to gain the love of one of the men in their line. Since then, there is a protocol to finding their mates, keeping their mates, protecting both parties and what might happen if they lose their mate. Nobody in the Ulvmand line is willing to go against tradition. These are big, strong men of Viking descent from Denmark.
Arne is out repairing fences one day when he is almost speared by an archer trying to poach deer on his family’s land. When he goes after the poacher, he finds out it is a female and not alone, hiding in their mine shack. He takes them to his home. Thus begins the latest Ulvmand family saga. Why were they hiding in the shack? Why are they so skittish around him? He will be so very angry when Jinn shares her past. There will be abduction, trafficking and a few surprises but be aware, some things will be sensitive to read.
I have loved this entire series! Each episode which started with the patriarch, Sten, followed by sons Dane, and now Arne has been spellbinding. Next up will be Roar. Loved the ending. Now I must wait for Roar’s story. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens. I highly recommend this whole series.

3.5 stars rounded up.

I was excited to find myself back at the Sköll Ranch, this time following Arne and the shake up his life needed. The family always delights with their banter and sibling chaos that has me laughing out loud and wishing there was even more. This time around we are adding 2 sisters to the mix, who were on the run to save their lives from being trafficked. The romance here was patient, and sweet, and Arne is the safe haven Jinn didn't even know she needed. Didn't even believe, but his desire to protect her and her sister wore her down easily. It took almost no time at all for them to fit right in with the family and settle into life on the ranch.

Almost. No. Time. I struggled to flow with the story as Jinn and Kip both seem to behave as if the terrible abuse they suffered didn't have any other lasting affects besides being a bit jumpy. Jinn, having been SA'd in horrifying ways, slipped into a romantic relationship remarkably fast. Everyone heals differently, it just seemed too hard to accept. There is so much to unpack for her, I felt like we got a bit cheated out of really getting to know her.

Regardless, I love this family and series and I look forward to continuing it. I hope we get to see this group more, their growth and continued healing. I love the little hints of possible future books and relationships.

The author upped the fantasy aspect here with our shifter guys and their witchy women, who or what will happen next?

The Ulvmands are back…

I’ve really gotten into this paranormal series – wolf shifters? Yes please. If you’ve been devouring the titles like I have than you know Arne is the flirty, talkative brother. There was more to him than that and his protective, serious side came out in full force when he met the sisters Jinn and Kip. The sisters were part of a sex trafficking ring so the trigger warnings were spot on.

I have to admit, I struggled with some of the plot elements as they lived right beside the serious issues incorporated in the story. These young women were tough but recovery and trauma were somehow glossed over. The story had a different feel than the earlier ones, though the strong feelings of family, loyalty and love between the characters were satisfyingly in full force. I love how they loved, laughed and battled together, no matter what came their way.

I’ll definitely be looking for more in this series even if this one didn’t have as strong an impact…

*I happily reviewed this story

'Arne' is the second installment in Avery Samson's "The Sköll Ranch Shifter Series", and like Samson's other works is a captivating blend of suspense, romance, and humor that kept me hooked from start to finish.

One of the standout features of this book is its well-written characters. Samson excels at creating multidimensional characters who are both relatable and engaging. The strong family dynamic within this hysterical shifter family adds depth to the narrative. In this offering, the protagonist is Arne, the charming middle brother.

The fun begins when Jinn almost shoots Arne with a crossbow on his ranch. As they navigate the dangers that threaten Jinn and her little sister Kip, their relationship evolves in a way that feels natural and deeply satisfying.

I love it when an author adds to a series while also making a new addition be perfectly ok to read on its own. Most times, you truly need the backstory from other books in order to continue, only able to read a full series in order and for me, sometimes I don't want the hassle! (not often, considering I LOVE reading, but still. Sometimes it's a mood, right?)

Arne is one of those that you can genuinely go straight to reading about our endearing MMC, and immediately be immersed in a story of boy-meets-girl/damsel in distress. One who almost seems more unwilling to get him into the trouble of her distress after getting to know him. Unwittingly caught in a dangerous web, now they have to work together in order to keep themselves out of harm's way.

Absolutely recommend this book for those who enjoy a good thrill!

Arne is a good addition to the series, offering a fresh perspective on family life at the ranch. The story starts strong, with Arne protecting Jinn and her sister from their traumatic past and quickly welcoming them into his family. While the romance between Arne and Jinn is sweet, it develops too quickly and feels rushed. Some plot points, like taking the sisters into town despite known dangers or allowing intruders onto the ranch multiple times, suggest a lack of strategy and security for shifters. Additionally, key questions remain unanswered, such as the fate of Jinn’s mother, how the father even knew a senator and whether he was paid or just taken as a debt. While enjoyable overall, these gaps left parts of the story feeling incomplete. Grateful to have received an advance review copy, which I’m reviewing voluntarily.

"

He sat up and pressed his hand behind her neck. She let him guide her back against his lips. His tongue traced the line that separated them until she opened. Then he imprinted her taste in his mind."

I enjoyed the premise of the with its intriguing setup and the characters' unique situations. Arne and Jinn’s dynamic, with her as a runaway and him as a protective rancher, brought a fresh twist to the romance and suspense genres. There were moments of tension and heartwarming care that I appreciated. I appreciayed the creativity behind the storyline. It was an enjoyable read that fans of suspenseful romance may find appealing. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is not your typical shifter romance but it is a fated mate romance but the "pack" dynamics in my opinion aren't there. It starts out rocky for Arne and Jinn. Jinn and her little sister are on the run and end up seeking shelter on Skoll Ranch in an abandoned shed. The trouble begins while Arne is out checking fences on the ranch and Jinn accidently comes close to hitting Arne with an arrow while poaching. It was an easy read but I felt Arne's family and Jinn's little sister Kip stole the story. Trouble continues to follow Jinn as Arne and his family fight to protect them while Jinn and Kip learn what real family means and Jinn learns to overcome her fear. Arne is such a wonderful addition to the series. We get more of the family life in the ranch and it is a delight. Arne brings home Jinn and her sister who he catches on the ranch poaching. They were running away to save their lives and they become part of Arne's family pretty quickly. Jinn and Arne also become involved romantically quite fast as if Jinn and her sister's abusive past has no effect on their lives. I found the romance in the book sweet and touching. I was very much invested in the story and in the family life in the ranch. It was very engaging and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Arne encounters Jinn when he is out on his farm. As he gets to know her better, he soon realises that she has a dark past and that she is in danger.

When protective Arne steps into the picture and shifts into wolf mode, it was blazing hot. I loved how he was gentle with the girls at the start and how he helped them integrate into his large family.

I enjoyed the brothers bickering and goofing about; and the bonding between Kip and Thyra. The ending was so satisfying and he totally deserved what Arne gave to him. I can’t wait to read Roar’s second chance romance.

ARNE AND JINN

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review.

Arne’s story is one of finding his fated mate. Jinn is in danger and is wary of every man. Her sister, Kip, believes that Arne is a good man. This story shows how one can love and that if one knows the consequences of their actions, they can be redeemed and forgiven. This story is suspenseful until the end. I loved it!

They meet when she's poaching on his land and nearly hits him with an arrow. Arne is the shifter, but Jinn is the fascinating character in this book. She's not at all fazed when she sees him shift. Not only is she a quick study for spells, but she's quite powerful as well. His family continues to support everyone who enters their circle, loving, caring, accepting to the newcomers. I received an advance copy of the book, and this is my honest review.

I enjoyed the story, with its constant action and never knowing when the danger would strike again. Sold at a young age, Jinn has endured years of abuse and now her abuser wants her back at any cost. Arne and his family will do anything to keep her safe. There are secondary characters who add to the story. It’s a suspense filled story that is worth reading.

-At Sköll Ranch, Arne finds love and purpose protecting Jinn from a dark past.Their romance is sweet and healing, set against family chaos and lurking danger. I received a free copy of this book and am freely sharing my opinion.

The story has trauma elements that feel rushed, but the story’s heart and suspense carry it through. A tender, fast-paced read with strong family bonds and high emotional stakes.

While I did enjoy this book, I wouldn’t say it is strictly a shifter romance. It was more romantic suspense with shifter and mystic elements.
I liked the premise of this family, with loads going on to keep you reading, and you certainly feel for what Jinn endured.

This book was an awesome read. Arne and Jinn were predestined. I just love Arne’s family they are so wonderful I think they would be the perfect family to be part of.

What Jinn went through was beyond terrible I hate to think that things like that still happen here. The Ulvmand family will be there to provide anything that Jinn and Kip will ever need. I can’t wait for Roars story and the explanation his ex has for what she did.
