I actually started to skim through this book for a science assignment. Now this book is not something you should read as you read fiction. It is the kind which sleeps in your cupboard until you need it for something. But as it was not mine, and I had to give it back to my friends after a few days,I read the whole book as it was a story. But it was not so bad.I have never been a person to like books on science, but 8000 Things You Should Know was actually a little interesting.Gallaher has managed to describe the facts so clearly yet in a way that will make you want to read this, not to finish this as soon as you can.
This book is for knowledge-seeking people, like me, who enjoy reading about facts. I recommend this book for use in school classrooms as I found it very fascinating. If you are like me, interested in learning about lots of facts, buy this book. I mainly enjoyed reading about all the scientific facts as science is my favourite topic. I have noticed that there is another book in this series which I am now eager to read. There is a lot of information that is easy for you to understand. I am exceptionally happy with this read.
this is a really wonderful book that summarizes all of the things that surrounds you in means of physics, chemistry and biology....
its not a book that you have to read from cover to cover, its best to buy it and keep it beside your bed, and whenever you want to discover a new thing or discover a fact you don't know; open the book on a random page and choose one of the facts there, that will do it
This book contains facts, facts, and more facts about a multitude of subjects such as space, planet earth, science, plants, building and transport, and the human body. Within those broad topics, there is a range of up to 55 subtopics. My explanation doesn't do it justice. For example, under "Light-years," It says that light takes 5-46 years to reach us from the Sun's nearest star, Proxima Centauri. The star Deneb is 1800 light-years away, which means we see it as it was when the emperor Septimus Severius ruled Rome (AD 200). Or "Earthquake waves" come in deep and surface waves... The book just states facts. It also provides pictures and is organized with a Key to each section. Some of the facts are 'wow' moments. It took a lot of work to create this book, and it would benefit from a new edition with up-to-date facts on population and some world politics. A section on technological improvements would be a welcome addition. Overall, it is an excellent book of knowledge.
It was a pretty good books kind of like a book of interesting facts would have been better if it was republished to more recent times like for example one of the fun facts was "someday you might be able to use the Internet on your phone."
I received this book as a gift, and it's really informational. I read it every day, everywhere I went, and I learned a lot of interesting things. It's very useful if you want to find information about a broad range of topics.
