After shoe designer Paige Bingham is jilted by fiancé Jeremy, just prior to the wedding, Paige determines she will go to Sorrento anyway. What should have been a honeymoon ends up being a holiday escape for one. But that is not the way it turns out. She meets the handsome and mysterious Sebastian Fielding, who seems reticent to share much about his business. He does help her enjoy the time on Sorrento. There is a definite spark between them. But when Paige gets back to Jersey she finds out it is Sebastian’s company that is taking over the struggling store in which her shoe shop is located. This completely threatens her business. How can she keep her business from going under? That’s one issue. Another is the gossip that paparazzi have unearthed and added to with lies about her fledgling romance with Sebastian. And what has gone wrong between Paige’s sister, Clem, and her boyfriend Olly? Olly is Paige’s best friend and she is concerned about him and Clem since they are acting strangely.
The settings of this story set in picturesque Sorrento and also Jersey are beautifully drawn. Paige is a caring, enterprising and strong willed woman. But lately it seems life has not turned out as she had hoped. Sebastian is a determined, wealthy man used to being in control and getting his own way. He is also compassionate as the reader discovers during the course of the story. Clem and Olly are likable. There are some other decidedly unlikable characters as well.
The story kept my interest throughout though it does tend to go on a bit long and get a bit repetitive before resolving issues. But still it was a nice light read. Chick lit, certainly but entertaining and with characters this reader cared about, even if at times I wanted to bop them and tell them to wake up to themselves. Though I am not a woman with a passion for shoes, it was interesting hearing about designing and selling the shoes.

I really enjoyed this latest one from Georgina. Set first in Italy and then in Jersey it was chock full of romance and warm, sunny beaches. I look forward to reading more from this author. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Paige decides to take her honeymoon in Sorrento after being jilted by her fiance, there she meets Sebastian who offers to show her the island. After enjoying her holiday with him she returns to her home in Jersey, only to find that he is part of a company that is taking over the store where she has a concession and she will probably lose her shop.
The world of designer shoes is definitely foreign to me being a man at M&S, but I have to admire anyone who can make a business from something that they are passionate about. Seb does come across as more than a hard-headed business man, with some hidden secrets. It's one of those stories where you want to bash the two main character's heads together as they both have strong feelings for each other, but struggle to make the relationship work. An ideal beach read.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

First read of the year, done!

Paige is an independent businesswoman with a flare for shoes. She finally decides to take some time to herself and heads off on holiday, where she meets a handsome stranger.

It's only once she gets home she learns more about them, and then their complicated love story begins. Add in to the mix an overage golden retriever energy best friend, a sister who's hiding something and an ex-girlfriend out to get you, there's some drama popped in.

I would recommend reading this is if you're a fan of holiday romances, small town romances and chance meetings.

Thank you to netgalley for providing me with the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was quite a let down, and here's why...

1) maybe especially so because I read this book straight after the first so the following became very obvious: there are too many similarities between these books, the plots and the characters. Woman with a long term relationship ending, meeting new man but suspecting something fishy is going on, still not able to stay away, love at first sight, poor communication leading to stupid misunderstandings, unconvincing and evil ex-girlfriends trying to sabotage, close friend or sister falling pregnant, money trouble... just to mention a few things.

2) The whole complicated relationship thing felt unnecessarily drawn out and boring, and the way these two were unable of simple communication made me lose interest and sympathy. I mean, come on, adult people can communicate better than this, especially considering how neither of them are described as shying away from conflict (their communication is basically either arguing and confrontation or kissing and swooning)

3) a third issue is uneven pacing: At times it felt like the story skipped ahead quite abruptly, and at other times it seemed to go on for ever with endless detailing of minor things that don't matter at all.

4) the switching of POV felt weird and unnatural - Paige is the main character, and she's mostly the main focus, so it felt weird and unnecessary to switch POV. I didn't really understand the point of this. The first book in the series didn't do this, and it allowed for a little more mystery as to what was going on (though it was still pretty obvious and predictable), here, with Sebastian's pov being part of the narrative there's no doubt whatsoever regarding his motives

5) just a bit bland and lacking in originality. nothing I haven't read before. Not funny enough to make me laugh, not emotional enough to make an impact, ... just so very underwhelming

I enjoyed the initial story and romance, but the main character drove me nuts after that. She supposed loves this man but refuses to listen to anything he wants to explain to her. I'm all for suspending reality, but this one really pushes it for me. He keeps at it and it just screams at a relationship doomed to fail to me and made it hard to enjoy.

Full disclosure - I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Unfortunately, this didn't work out for me. I was unsure what to rate this because it felt like it had all the right elements but the characters, the execution and conversations were just bad. I wasn't able to connect with the characters because the writing felt shallow and often had stilted conversations. Our main characters had zero chemistry and after a point, it was impossible to continue.

Thank you to the publisher for this ARC.

A really good story

I loved this book about poor jilted Paige and entrepreneur Sebastian. This is the second one time I have read this book but I didn't realise until I was a couple of chapters in. I enjoyed it just as much as the first time.

A frustrating heroine who can't make up her mind. Story telling that jumps between different points of view with no pattern. A plot with holes. Sorry but could do better

Paige opts for Sorrento as her honeymoon destination following a breakup with her fiance. There, she meets Sebastian, who offers to guide her around the island. Upon returning home to Jersey, she discovers Sebastian's involvement in a company taking over the store where she has a concession, putting her shop at risk. As a man working at M&S, the realm of designer shoes is unfamiliar to me, but I admire those who build businesses from their passions. Sebastian appears more complex than a mere hard-nosed businessman, harboring hidden secrets. Their tumultuous relationship makes for a compelling beach read, where you'll find yourself wanting to knock some sense into the main characters.
