I haven't read this in years, but I absolutely loved it. The portrayal of childhood just seemed extremely realistic to me.

I read this book when it first came out and just re-read it, 20+ years later. It is a great coming-of-age story! Nelson is so real as a teenage boy full of questions and angst about those he loves and his future. His voice is so fresh and real...and quite funny! I loved it the second time and wish I could spend a few days with the Shooks myself!

Recently rediscovered book.
Coming of age book about 3 13 yr olds narrated
In such a way that you imagine yourself in that tree house watching the neighborhood yourself.
Highly recommend if you can find it.

A coming of age novel dosed with humour and plenty of wry observations on real life. I very much enjoyed this novel, and its a pity it is not better known. The characterisations were really well done.
