Коли сценаристу різних серіалів Алану Геінберґу випала можливість написати комікс для Марвел він вирішив скористатися нею. Ідея коміксу про Молодих Месників зародилася під час зустрічі із Джо Кесадою на якому той ляпнув фразу "Молоді Месники". Спочатку це викликало певний скептицизм з боку тодішнього редактора коміксів про Месників Тома Бревурта та спантеличення з боку Адама оскільки у Месників не було сайдкіків з яких можна було б зробити таку команду. Після зустрічі Адама мучило запитання "Ким Є Молоді Месники?" і він вирішив зробити його основою свого пітчу для Марвел. Створивши його та отримавши зелене світло для роботи над серією із шести номерів Геінберґ зіштовхнувся із тим, що він не знав як йому розповідати історії в цьому медіумі через те, що останні роки писав тільки телесценарії. В результаті Джо Кесада порадив йому написати сюжет для першого номеру саме в такому вигляді, а пізніше зголосився допомогти з перетворенням цього у сценарій який би був підходящим для коміксу. Тож давайте глянемо чи вийшло у Алана Геінберґа видати хорошу історію та вдало ввести Молодих Месників.
Перша арка відбувається між розпуском Месників та формацією нових Месників. За сюжетом Джессіка Джонс, яка працює у Дейлі Б'юґл над колонкою "Пульс", об'єднується з Капітаном Америкою та Залізною Людиною для того, щоб розслідувати появу групи з чотирьох молодих героїв які, на перший погляд, мають зв'язок із різними Месниками. По ходу історії до сюжету також додаються Кессі Ленґ, донька Люди Мурахи (Скотта Ленґа), яка хоче зустрітися з Молодими Месниками та повернути собі костюм батька, а також Кейт Бішоп, яка зустрічає Кессі й вирішує піти з нею. Досить швидко виявляється, що Залізний Хлопець, який і зібрав команду, є молодим Канґом Завойовник, який дізнався від дорослого Канґа ким він стане і вирішив не дати цьому статися. І тепер перед трійкою дорослих героїв постає дилема: повернути хлопця Канґу заради збереження часолінії чи захистити його, але ризикнути змінами в часі?
Взагалі перша арка викликала у мене досить змішані враження, якщо за самими персонажами загалом було цікаво спостерігати, особливо на початку, то коли вже пішли розборки із Канґом то все стало якось аж занадто різким, особливо це проявилося в тому наскільки швидко Кеп і ко вирішили віддати Айрон Леда Канґу, те як він сам вирішив піти зі своєю старшою версією, а також любовна лінія між ним та Кессі. Однак чого у цього сюжету, як і більшої частини серії, не відняти це досить приємного малюнку Джима Чанґа.
У 7 і 8 номерах, які відбуваються вже після того, як Нові Месники сформувалися, нам показують трохи більше особистого життя молодняка, основний сюжет тут зосереджується на Патріоті, який є внуком першого Капітана Америки, це той, що Ісая Бредлі, і таємниці пов'язаній з тим звідки у нього з'явилися здібності. Загалом вийшла цікава невелика історія, яка більше розкриває персонажів, щодо малюнку то тут ним займався Андреа Ді Віто, і загалом цілком норм, але минулий малюнок мені сподобався більше.
Останній сюжет який відбувається з 9 по 12 номер зосереджується на Галклінґу та Вікані. За сюжетом на Тедді нападає Суперскрул оскільки молодик є не звичайним шейп-шифтером, а сином принцеси Скрулів та Капітана Марвела, а тому наші герої опиняються також під прицілом Крі.
У цьому сюжеті знову ж таки вилазить декілька проблем, зокрема певна різкість яка була присутня в першій арці. Головне, що мені тут не сподобалося це те як зробили лінію Вікана та Швидкості. За сюжетом герої рекрутують Марево, який пропонує розширити ростер Молодих Месників для боротьби із скрулом, але в результаті вони рятують тільки одного Томмі, а зроблено було це для того, щоб, максимально ніяк, вкинути ідею з тим, що Швидкість та Вікан можуть бути дітьми Багряної Відьми.
В результаті перша серія про Молодих Месників має певні проблеми із сюжетами, однак за рахунок персонажів та розкриття того, що вони не є такими простими як може здатися, на перший погляд, читати це було досить цікаво. Серію загалом можу порадити, якщо зацікавила.

Amo cuando las editoriales de cómics piensan en crear personajes legado. Es decir, cuando se preocupan por crear personajes jóvenes que serán los protagonistas de futuras historias de la editorial. Esto es algo en lo que DC había tenido mayor fortaleza, en especial con grupos como los Jóvenes Titanes o la Justicia Joven. Marvel también tuvo sus equivalente en su momento, pero en la época moderna de la editorial fueron los Jóvenes Vengadores quienes representaban esta nueva generación de super héroes.
Este volúmen 1 de la Modern Era Epic Collection recopila la primera serie publicada de los Young Avengers, compuesta por 12 cómics en total. Además, cuenta también con un cómic llamado “Young Avengers Special”, en donde se ahonda en las historias personales de cada integrante del equipo.
Yo había leído esta serie hace más de 10 años y esta relectura ha sido un viaje en el tiempo que he disfrutado. Pues sé como están estos personajes hoy en día y leer nuevamente su debut me dio cierta nostalgia. Pero también disfruté recordando cosas que había olvidado por completo. Por ejemplo, no recordaba que el nombre de Young Avengers se los dió una periodista del Daily Bugle.
Un detalle cronológico importante a tener en cuenta es que esta historia comienza después de “Avengers Desunidos”, por lo que no hay un grupo activo de vengadores. Esto implica que la aparición de unos “Jóvenes Vengadores” cause revuelo en los medios pero también entre los mismos héroes. Es por esto que el Capitán América y Iron Man quieren encontrar a estos chicos para evitar que sigan cometiendo imprudencias y poniendo su vida en riesgo.
El grupo fue creado por Iron Lad, quien viene del futuro buscando una nueva generación de héroes que le ayuden a derrotar a Kang el conquistador. De hecho, el primer arco de la serie trata sobre ese choque con la realidad. Iron Lad aprenderá de primera mano sobre las consecuencias de viajar en el tiempo y el equipo tendrá que tomar una dificil decisión.
En un principio, el grupo era conformado únicamente por hombres: Patriot, Iron Land, Wiccan y Hulking. Luego de sus primeros combates mediáticos, Cassie (Stature) y Kate (Hawkeye) deciden unirse, sin importar si los chicos estaban o no de acuerdo. Evidentemente, sus habilidades fueron muy utiles en los siguientes enfrentamientos, por lo que no fue necesario hacer ningun tipo de votación, ahora los Jóvenes Vengadores eran un grupo de 6 integrantes.
Algo que me gustó de esta serie es que cada integrante tiene su propia subtrama. Por ejemplo tenemos a Eli, nieto del primer super soldado. De hecho, hay todo un arco sobre Eli, del cual no hablaré mucho porque es MUY importante y no quiero dar spoilers. También está el caso de Cassie, hija de Scott Lang, quien murió en el ataque de Scarlet Witch a la mansión de los Vengadores.
El último arco de la serie es el clímax de la historia. Esta parte final estará centrada en Teddy (Hulkling), quien creía que era un mutante, pero cuyo orígen conoceremos en estas páginas. Orígen que además lleva a la tierra uno de los conflictos bélicos más grandes de la galaxia.
Y como si fuera poco, también durante este arco final nos presentan a Tommy, más conocido como el velocista Speed, quien además es idéntico a William (Wiccan). Es aquí donde conocemos la realidad sobre su orígen: Ellos son hermanos y la familia que tienen no son su verdadera familia. ¿Quiénes son sus padres? No les daré el spoiler, porque deben leer el tomo para descubrirlo.
En fin, me he disfrutado mucho esta relectura. Amé regresar a los orígenes de estos Jóvenes Vengadores, en especial ahora que sé lo que les depara el futuro a cada uno de ellos, pues se han convertido en personajes muy relevantes en Marvel.

On a reread I’d say that the series still holds up, although I will say that the first arc wasn’t my favorite. Kang is way too big a threat to be dealing with on the first six issues. Especially since we hadn’t had enough time to properly know the characters well. After that arc ends and it’s just about the figuring out if they should continue the team, the book becomes much better. It definitely felt like there was some Marvel editorial meddling on the Teddy and Billy relationship though since we don’t get to see them fall in love, it’s just a fact they mention in issue 7.

While I read a few of these issues WAAAAAY back in 2005 (or so), this is the first time I read the whole series.
It was ... enjoyable, I suppose. However compared to other Epic Collections, this one felt scrimpt. Was it worth the cover price? Definitely not. I'm sure they could have found something else to put in here to make it worth it but alas.
I loved the characters, the art was solid (except in the inconsistent Special issue), and the storylines were mid.
Overall - 3/5

I have nothing bad to say about this, it’s near perfect. My initial interest in even reading this was for Kate Bishop and Wiccan but I loved getting to know all the Young Avengers. Their stories were so fun to read. The art style and writing meshes so well. Could not get enough of Jim Cheung’s work here.

Between the ableist slurs, the disgusting sexism, and the holier-than-thou hypocrisy of murderers pretending to be heroes, I was disappointed that in the 21st century we are still not any better.

I really liked this. Marvel doesn't typically do sidekicks. At least back in 2005 they didn't. This is set right after Bendis disassembled the Avengers and these kids step in to fill the gap. As soon as Cap and Iron Man get wind of it though, they try and shut them down. But these kids are determined to show the "man" what they can do. I like how the kids all subvert expectations, looking like fanboy versions of the Avengers when all of them all have something different going on. I love how Asgardian and Hulking are interested in one another. Back in 2005, there wasn't much LTGBQ+ representation and these two kids are awesome. I really like Jim Cheung's art too.
