A mixed bag of tie-ins to the Venom War event. The Spider-Man series had a lot of potential. The symbiote teams up with Peter Parker again and Jackpot is along for the ride. I really liked the parts where the symbiote realizes all the regret Spider-Man is hiding over losing MJ. It gets points off for not being a complete story on its own though as it weaves in and out of the main book between issues which I find incredibly annoying. And I don't care what you say about Greg Land's art. I've always liked it and it's still good here.

The Lethal Protectors story is the return of Silver Sable's Wildpack. This time they have symbiotes though. It's fine.

The Fantastic Four one shot is one of the worst Marvel comics I've read in a long time. Adam Warren is a terrible writer. The dialogue is nonstop technobabble. My eyes glazed over a few pages while I painfully stuck with it until the end.

Thankfully the It's Jeff story continues to be a delight anytime Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru get together to make it happen.

I did not enjoy the Venom War main book. I did not enjoy most of the tie-in books. I have been angry at the Amazing Spider-Man book since One More Day and Brand New Day. So I might be a bit biased.

Venom War Spider-Man #1-4. I actually enjoyed this part of the book. Yes post the Day era Peter Parker is a man-child loser, but here is a glimpse of the old Peter Parker I looked up to as a comic book and respect and was proud to call my favourite character. The artwork is great and the story is ok but the part I love is the symbiote pointing out Peter's faults, especially not being married to Mary Jane. These are the things I would want to say to Peter myself while trying to shake some sense into him. I also like the Peter/Spider-Man moment where he will not give up despite the odds. That Spider-Man/Peter Parker is to me. This part of the book is 4 stars.

Lethal Protectors #1-3. Staring Sliver Sable and her Wild Pack. Sable has trust and commitment issues but she always gets the job she was hired for done. Carrying on the theme that everyone has a symbiote in this story. If this does not lead to Silver Sable getting her own series or mini-series this is a waste. 3 stars.

Venom War: Fantastic Four #1. This is the pseudo-war/game between Kang and Doom with the FF as a pawn. However, when a pawn gets to the end of the board it can become a queen. Apart from explaining something that happened later in the Venom War main story (which I also/still do not see the point of), I do not get the point of this story. 2 stars.

Venom War: It's Jeff. Comic relief fun nonsense. Maybe it was correctly placed after the FF story so I enjoyed it more. It worked. 3 stars.

The Spider-Man story was one of the best in continuity Spider-Man I've read in a long time. Lethal Protectors was your run of the mill dumb but fine comic book tie-in. FF was terrible and pointless. Why do I even feel compelled to read all the tie-ins for an event? The curse and brilliance of Marvel Unlimited. The Jeff story was fun as they always are.

This one was so funny lol.

Like we have the main Spider-man tie-in which shows the venom symbiote bond with Peter and they fight against Hobgoblin who has kidnapped people and is using them and then another creature called Arachniote comes and the whole deal with him which was okayish but its the MJ team-up which is fun and there are continuity elements from the current wells run like her being Jackpot and all and not many people will like it, but I like the symbiote's meta-commentary of how this doesn't feel right and him expressing Peter's love for MJ as he is bonded to Peter atm and its a good story and then further tying to the main event as the symbiote is going to Eddie again and he gets a vision of what could happen if Peter kept the symbiote and its one of those dark future stories and its alright but its the end issue about Peter missing the symbiote and him saving MJ.

That story ending was good, some moments were confusing but then again the writers are not the best in my opinion but they do give a good monologue and moments to Peter expressing his love for MJ and the symbiote and its a cool one-off adventure and as far as tie-ins go it does its work. The art is as expected.. traced by Greg Land.

The "Lethal Protectors" story which focuses on Silver Sable is fine as she has to get her wildpack team together and retrieve Shriek for plot purposes and you get to see cool mixtures of different heroes with symbiotes and usual betrayal stuff but also a commentary on Sable's duty and love and her betrayal of love for duty which I found an interesting take. She is one of those characters I haven't read much about but this was a cool take and I wouldn't mind reading a solo series of her by this writer.

The FF story is a proxy war between Kang and Doom and Jesus christ, so much text, I lost it lol in the first few pages as there was so much talking but it gets better with Reed's plan to defeat Kang and yeah some funny moments but I felt like it was a word salad for the most part and cold have been done better though interesting ideas and use of Reed's power like Ryan is doing with his FF run atm!

The Jeff the shark story is funny for real, and after the FF story, its a quick read and really one of the funniest and relaxing tie-ins to the whole event, I liked it!

So yeah, overall a mixture of good and not bad but not good either stories and is a good tie-in for the most part to the main event! Definitely read it and form your own judgements!

Venom War hits Spider-Man (obviously), Silver Sable and her new Wild Pack (sure), the Fantastic Four (makes sense), and Jeff The Landshark (...wait.)

The Spider-Man mini-series that starts us off is both stupid and solid, which matches the theme of Venom War, honestly. Spidey and Jackpot team-up to battle the Hobgoblin and an enormous symbiote in a story that has some repercussions both on Venom War and beyond, unfortunately marred by Greg Land giving Jackpot his usual pornface at every opportunity.

Lethal Protectors has more story than its three issues has time to explore. The cast's a bit too big, and the Silver Sable/Dominic Fortune subplot doesn't get the time to breathe that it deserves. It's not bad at all, but it definitely feels cramped - cutting a character or two might have helped, I think. Luca Maresca's art is solid as usual.

Then we get the two one-shots. The Fantastic Four one falls into the trap of 'if I use more words I will sound smarter', and instead just becomes a slog to read, despite being a kind of wrap-up for the Kang plot that's been running in Venom, and the Red Goblin stuff that launched its own series. The Jeff one-shot gets no notes though, because it's adorable from page 1 to the end. I love that little guy.

A good selection, just a little shaky in the middle.

Score for each of the included series

Spider-Man - 4 stars, liked Venom symbiote seaking help from Peter & the shared history.

Lethal Protectors - 3 stars - EVERYONE now has symbiote and perfectly linked with to augment existing powers. Meh

It's Jeff - 3.5 stars - my first Jeff story. Cute and fun

Fantastic Four - 2 stars - tad boring! Worst of the "Venom War" books thus far.

I'm not sure Greg Land is the right artist for Spider-Man and no one (no matter how talented or sincere) can make me care about the relationship between Silver Sable and Dominic Fortune.

I really enjoyed the artwork and some of the parallels in this. If you’re a Venom and/or Spiderman fan, I’d recommend!

It was ok.

Not the best. Or the worst. Some good. Some bad. The good was great. The bad was unreadable stuff. Great art though.
