Is this good? Not particularly. Is it stupid fun? Yes. Williams once again relies on the characters and their dynamic to carry the story, and whilst the dialogue doesn’t always hit, it’s more entertaining than not if you embrace the silliness. Enhanced by the fact that it knows what kind of miniseries it is, those who enjoy the way that Williams writes here should also look into X-Terminators where this almost signature brand of banter is better executed.

I REALLY want to hype this book more, having just polished off Leah Williams’ amazing X-Terminators book. But this wasn’t that. It wasn’t as zany, it was better on the Bechdel Test, but the art was fucking terrible. Who decided to let Harley look like a runway model’s heroin career slide?

A bit of fun, but ultimately not very good. For a very short, self-contained weekly mini-series, everything feels messy and rushed - a couple glaring things that didn't make sense (ie. White Rabbit's other self disappears from the cell between issue 2&3).

But, Punchline's inclusion and voice is great; good on Williams for rolling with recent (not-so-good) Tini Howard continuity and improving on it.

Somehow there's 3 artists: Matteo Lolli's art (issues 1 & 3) is definitely this serie's high point. In comparison, Daniel Hillyard's art (2 & most of 4) is quite poor - less consistent/detailed and with weirdly angled, small faces.

I learned you can write 'whore' in a comic but not, apparently, 'bitch'.

"TRIGGER WARNING is the world's only first-person shooter game using LIVING targets! 'But Pipi,' you might be thinking, 'how is this possible?! Isn't that murder?!' Yes, it IS!"

The Gotham City Sirens – Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy – team up with Jaina Hudson / White Rabbit to stop Punchline, who has created a horrifying real life first-person shooter game that uses innocent animals and humans as prey.

Trigger Happy was an enjoyable and entertaining comic, even if it wasn't anything groundbreaking or particularly amazing. I had a swell time reading it, and I think the premise of Trigger Warning the game, their mentally enslaved targets and all that was delightfully absurd and dark. The art was hit or miss for me, as some character designs were super cool (Ivy looked incredible and I liked Punchline's look) and some less so (something about Harley's design didn't quite click with me). But while the character art wasn't top notch, I loved the way the artist depicted the action sequences – in those scenes, the art was very dynamic and full of movement. The cowboy aesthetic was fun (seeing the Sirens in cowboy hats and outfits, all from Harley's seemingly endlessly quirky closet, was a delight).

I'm always happy to read a story about the Sirens. They are one of my fave teams in all of DC and this comic, once again, captured the reason why. Harley and Ivy's cute dynamic (they are girlfriends) combined with the the snarky, aloof and effortlessly cool vibe of Catwoman is just catnip (heh) for me. Who doesn't love a super bad girl team up? I like how they all get their moment to shine, how they trust each other's talents in tricky situations and how they share a distaste for morally corrupt billionaires and people who hurt animals and innocent people. They are not always good people either – Ivy's first appearance includes her feeding two guys to her flesh-eating plant Betsy – but they have some uncrossable lines at least. Alongside Harley and Ivy, whose relationship is perhaps my favorite romantic ship of DC, I really enjoyed Catwoman and Harley, cause though they are good pals, their energies and vibes are drastically different. I loved that scene, in the truck, when Harley wants to play I spy and keeps picking the same object to "spy" and Catwoman, though she complains and groans, indulges her and plays along. Also, this moment made me cackle: “Harley, these ‘disguises’ are foul. Where did you get them?” – “M-my closet?” – “… that explains that.”

This book introduced me to some characters I had never come across before. Punchline, the big bad behind Trigger Happy the game, and Jaina Hudson (and White Rabbit, her criminal alter ego and clone), were new acquaintances for me. Punchline was a solid villain, and I loved how, through her, the author gets to say a little something about unethical business people, the exploitation of workers, the way billionaires prioritise profit over humanity and so on. This comic doesn't do a deep dive into these topics nor does it attempt to be something super profound, but it does touch on those topics. Animal abuse is also at the center of the comic, which can be tough for some people to read (and see, as this is a comic), so keep that in mind – even though, for reasons I won't spoil here, no animal actually fully dies. I loved seeing the Sirens take down animal abusers.

I don't have much else to say about the comic. It as good fun but nothing incredible. I would recommend it to people looking for a light-hearted, easy-to-get-through and entertaining, comedic comic book about the Gotham City Sirens.

Leah Williams did this grindhouse miniseries over in X-Men called X-Terminators, and this is kind of the same thing for the Gotham City Sirens (Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman), but it works so much better here. The story feels more contained, the chaotic pansexuality is deep to the characters and following established stories, and Punchline is a villain so well-suited for the talents of Tini Howard and Leah Williams. Plus, loved the funny shirtless sexy-cowboy henchmen in the backgrounds! What a hoot!

Terrible book. I was expecting something lighthearted and fun, and instead I got weird jokes, a crappy story and characters I couldn't care less for. Harley is the equivalent of Deadpool with a worse sense of humour and possible brain damage, Poison Ivy is as dry as a rock, and Catwoman is just there, I guess, because her role & voice are almost insignificant. I have no idea who White Rabbit is, nor did anything in this book make me want to find out. Punchline was just about the only decent character, but not enough to save this comic. Well, at least I found out I should probably stay away from the follow-up GCS mini by the same author.

What I liked: The art in the Matteo Lolli issues was the only thing I actually enjoyed in this book, but sadly, it's just 2 issues. For some reason, editors decided two different artists are necessary for a 4-issue mini.

What I didn't liked: The art by Daniel Hillyard is just ugly to me (the faces are particularly hideous). Maybe it would work for an original comic of some kind, but not here. The humour is cringy to the point where my eyeballs do a 360 rolling in their sockets. The word "wh..e" is uncensored and used several times (apparently there's a nice way to use it according to the writer), while other supposed slurs/swear words are censored - what's the point of this really, some weird type of edginess? There's probably more I can add to this section but it's really not worth it.

2.5*

As a huge fan of these characters and the original Gotham City Sirens run, I was excited to dive into the miniseries reboot but this ultimately fell flat

This is silly and fun when it leans into that but I just don't know that the Gotham City Sirens is supposed to be that. These characters have complexity, but they're so diluted in this. And to second what another review said, it doesn't feel like they are actually acting as a group. The chemistry is lacking and they don't really work together as a team like they're supposed to. It's like Catwoman is a major third wheel, and idk why we included a 4th anti-hero in a limited run. It ultimately just takes screen time away from the main trio.

The writing is inconsistent, as is the art. The setting and theme is great, loved the gamer space commentary though and love the himbo henchmen in hot cowboy attire.

Unfortunately, my favorite aspect of this was all the cover variants, which doesn't really reflect well. But hopefully we'll get more Gotham City Sirens perhaps with a different writer/artist team.

2.5 rounded up. It's nothing out of this world but it's a fun one-off trade-long romp. I know Leah Williams for her run on Power Girl which has been mostly fun with a strong focus on putting the characters in a wacky sort of situation and letting them bounce off of each other as cape things ensue. It's similar here. She also has a strong girl power vibe reminiscent of Josie Campbell. Though between the two I prefer Campbell as while Williams’ stories are more outlandish and in turn immediately interesting as a concept I find Campbell's writing to have more substance. That sort of is the case here. It's a fun story but with little substance. This won't shake up anything about DC or these characters. That's not terrible. But it is just a sort of meant to be digested and enjoyed with little else in a small four issue story.
Also all the artists did great though there is a special shout out to Daniel Hillyard. I know him for his Image work on Plush and Plastic. Seeing that scrunched up face artstyle of his is a joy every time including here

Harley, Ivy, and Catwoman team up with White Rabbit to stop an illegal hunting operation with a "cowboy" theme. That's really all there is to this, with the trio investigating, rapidly being captured, and then having to escape and bring the operation down. There are some nice touches, such as the energy drink promotion that's all part of the scam and some fun with White Rabbit's abilities, but nothing stands out. At a stretch, you could point out the anti-hunting theme, but there's not space to do much with that, with Punchline being more a generic corporate villain than anything else.

In fairness, it isn't trying to be anything more; it's a straight-up adventure with no added frills, but some good comic artwork and decent visuals. And shirtless cowboy henchmen if you're into that sort of thing (although they're mostly in the background). It's fun, but it isn't great, and it probably isn't meant to be - it was only four issues, after all.

DCpcionante!

I love all the individual pieces of this book. Harley, Ivy, and Selina together again. Himbo cowboys. Punchline getting to be a huge bitch. Social commentary.

And yet this just...didn't work the way I wanted it to. I don't know if it was the focus on White Rabbit for some bizarre reason, or that it never really felt like the girls were working together but rather just all being at the same place at the same time, but something was off. It didn't capture the magic I was hoping for at all. The art's okay, but there are more than two artists across four issues which just feels like a misstep. I know this was a weekly series when it was coming out in single issues, but maybe some better planning would have helped.

Less than the sum of its parts, somehow. I hope this doesn't stop us getting more of the ladies together again sooner rather than later.

The story about playing with human avatars and an energy drink causing people to turn into zombies could have been done with either more seriousness or better yet more humor. As is, the story is average with a few chuckles, such as giant Poison Ivy plant and some funny one liners from Harley. More over the top humor and silliness would have raised the story up more notches.

I really like that Punchline is the villain in the story. She works well in Gotham Sirens stories. Hopefully, they use her more often as the main villain in the series.

The art has an angular look to it that works well with the story.

Must a book be good? Can't it just be vibes and good art and inconsistencies in a plot with a lot of "hello fellow gamers" dialogue? This was silly candy-coated nonnnnnsense but I love Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy and Catwoman and himbo cowboys and hyenas. Punchline is whatever.

P.S. idk why this is listed under Tini Howard's name. Leah Williams and Matteo Lolli, you will be avenged! Probably closer to March 2025 when this actually comes out!

It starts out fun and interesting and then dovetails into predictable. The fun moments and panels are still there, but it's just small details in the overall book. And the feeling of there being no care for the ending continues with the art, the last issue/pages have a different art style that I'm not a fan of.

Feels like a bad episode of the 'Harley Quinn' HBO series...

What should be a fun story about the three Gotham anti-heroes is instead, a slap-dash story (again) about whatever Punchline is up to now. Gotham City Sirens has been done better before. This is just cashing in on name recognition.
===
Bonus: Punchline's plot might be the only new and interesting thing to come out of this...

This is a fun, albeit pointless, story that puts the ‘Gotham City Sirens’ back together. Lea Williams writes standard renditions of the characters (Harley is whacky, Ivy is dry and Catwoman is sarcastic) and the art is serviceable.

Definitely a much sillier tone than the original Gotham City Sirens, but I'm happy to see these three women back together again. Now if we could get a slightly better written miniseries, maybe we can get a ongoing series out of it.

I’ll always have a soft spot for my sirens. Doesn’t even come close to the original series, but the book was still entertaining overall. I don’t love punch line (just don’t think she’s that interesting), so I didn’t love the story. But I still loved the siren’s relationship and essence.

3.5 - this is very silly, but honestly, is there anything better than watching a certain someone receive karmic justice? Ivy is fantastic in this, and I'm really enjoying White Rabbit becoming more enmeshed in the Gotham universe.

I didn't realize how much I missed the Sirens!
Punchline has created an energy drink that allows mind control and is using it to run a video game sim where you can shoot real people! Ivy, Harley, and Catwoman head in to stop it. Much laughter and action! Just a really fun ride.
Strong recommend.

Trigger Happy is a little bit goofy and a whole lot extra. But the characters are fun like always and the art is pretty solid to deliver an entertainingly outrageous read.

Williams has a knack for writing off-the-wall chaotic girl group fun, but I think it worked better in X-Terminators than in this. Still fun, and it was nice to see White Rabbit.
