I really enjoyed this book. Most of this book is set during the Absolute Power series. This book actually reminds me why I was such a Dan of the Arrow series. I like the darker Batman style (Green) Arrow.
The unthinkable has happened, Amanda Waller has won the heroes are defeated. Powerless, they are captured or on the run. However, Waller could not have pulled this off without inside help for one of the heroes. Oliver Queen has betrayed all his friends and family. What is he thinking? What had Waller got on him, and how far will he go?
This might be my favourite Green Arrow book so far. I love the Absolute Power companion stories and the annual about the "one" that got away. It's a great book. After this, I can't wait for the next book.
Well... guess I don't need to wait to read Absolute Power anymore. LOL This one goes through all the background stuff with Green Arrow and family that appear to make up a large portion of that story, including an aftermath/apology story. Can't wait to see how the full story goes... but I need to catch up on the other titles to get me there.
This book is mostly Absolute power tie-in and Although GA is probably the most interesting in terms of plot it is not the best executed and tends to pass the time with GA's family not doing what they were told to more than dealing with Oliver so the final twist is very poorly exploited The art isn't exceptional either and this volume is rather disappointing.
In the end I'm rather impatient to Chris Condon arrive on the title.
Green Arrow's latest run continues to hammer home its "we're not friends, we're FAMBILY" vibes. Just like the Fast & Furious series, there are plenty of ridiculous stunts and airborn acrobatics. Unlike FF, I guess there are many heroes wielding bows and arrows.
Long story short, Oliver Queen is all wrapped up in the Absolute Power nonsense, but this volume does very little to explain why Waller has his balls in a vice grip. His vast extended family attempt to help him out, thus falling into Waller's trap. Eventually, a happy ending and a very dull, very long annual.
Feels weird to miss the time-traveling, multiverse-skipping nonsense of the previous volumes.
I don’t really remember a things since I read all of this (except for the annual) in November so I can’t really give a review. I am however giving it two stars because i do remember not feeling anything towards the Ollie betrayal arc, and because I do remember about the other things that I read in November. I’m glad that Joshua Williamson is finally off the book.
This was such a fun read, say what you will but this is like why I love Ollie. It starts off with him reuniting with his family and then going to work for Waller and its like why and then the events of Absolute power kick and its like whats going on, last 2 volumes its like trying to unite the family and now he is fighting them and it leads to some great moments.
And then you see the family come together to save the patriarch of the Arrow family and then it involves Dr Ivo, Arsenal breaking into save Cheshire which was fun and then Bright also coming in and you can see his hatred for Ollie and he doesn't trust him and you get the idea that he maybe undercover and it felt obvious tbh, but then the big fight happens and twists here and there until the big reveal and one can pretty much guess what it was but you know I love the way its done and you see how far he will go to save his family and friends.
Its a change that has happened to his character as he has become this family man and responsible and then you see a story in the future where he is telling his successors about this villain FIRESTARTER who always escaped him and through flashbacks you see all the versions of GA and his costumes and the different eras he has been through and I love that and it made me nostalgic about the 2000s and New 52 and Rebirth eras! I love those eras and omg I love the art here especially those splash pages its just so good!
Its an amazing ending for a man who has evolved so much and starts in a very dark place but ends in positivity and I love it! This has been an amazing run and also I love the tease of whats to come in the new run with a murder mystery next up!
Bello, bello!

Joshua Williamson ends his Green Arrow run as he started it, with a focus on family and fun. Even Absolute Power rearing its head isn't able to knock the story off-target (arrow pun!).
This is the closest a GA book has felt to the Judd Winick era, and not just because Phil Hester draws some of the issues; this is what DC has always done well, bringing big groups of characters together and making them all feel like a family. Green Arrow, Flash, Batman, Superman, they just...work, and while it may be the nostalgia goggles, I just love it when the rich continuity of characters and relationships feels important, from older bits and pieces to the newer stuff, and that's something that Williamson really seemed to get with this book.
This is gonna be a hard act to follow, I'm certain of it.
Honestly, Williamson's run could have (should have?) ended before the Absolute Power story and Ollie's deep connections to it. What we get isn't BAD, but it's like all the major points were already hit previously and now we're just....here.
It's nice to see them all grow into a true family and the teases for future relationships is a nice touch. ======= Bonus: Who remembers Tomorrow Woman? That's a DEEP cut. Bonus Bonus: An archery lesson for Red Canary would be...epic. So many skilled teachers.
Your enjoyment of this is pretty dependant on how much you enjoy Absolute Power, but I loved Absolute Power, so I really enjoyed this one. Builds upon the events of that really well and I expands up Ollie's character motivations a lot.
4 stars because I really enjoyed it, even though absolute power is required reading to understand what's going on. Again, loved how this comic let's you understand and get to know the arrow family, and I loved the fun campy feel of this book.
Holy crap was this a super fun read! The art was pretty great too. What made it so special was seeing Ollie's family together as a larger crime fighting unit. There was just so many great characters and the interplay between them rocked.
I worry sometimes that I'm not adventurous enough in trying new titles, so a few months ago I ordered a bunch of books I would ordinarily dismiss and, well, lots of two star ratings.
3.5 Thank goodness, that has to be the last of the Absolute Power crap. Not the strongest writing, but I love seeing the Arrow family (even Arrowette!! 🩷) all together.
