After reading the first book I really thought that this team had potential, and they do seem to not hate each other but they are not really a team. The story is okay to a bit disappointing, but the artwork is good. The characters are all over the place.
Since the Bloodhunt has ended the Blood Hunters have stayed together to deal with the remaining people who have been turned. Of course, they can't agree on how they deal with them. Also, enter Spider-man (Miles) who has recently been turned as well. Will the team stay together long enough to stop the Blood Coven?
The team keep getting put down and I have to agree. In the last book, I would have called these guys the B team, here they are the C team (are they even a team). I am not sure what happens next or should they all go their separate ways? The book finishes with a varient cover gallery.
The follow-up to the lead story of the previous Blood Hunters mini-series reunites writer Erica Schultz with Dagger, Elsa Bloodstone, Yelena Belova, and Hallows' Eve as they attempt to deal with one of the loose ends from Blood Hunt, the Bloodcoven.
This is a fairly quick read, I think I smashed out all five issues in about twenty minutes. It's fairly fast paced, a lot of fighting with banter in between punches to keep the story flowing, but it does feel a bit thin on the ground for development. Elsa annoys everyone, Dagger tries to herd cats (including a literal vampire cat who steals a load of panel time), Yelena says funny off-kilter things, and Hallows' Eve gets to do the most fun stuff. There's also an appearance or two by Miles Morales, currently a vampire as of this story, which takes away from our leading ladies a tad too much too.
The artwork's also a bit hit or miss. Robert Gill starts things off, but goes slowly off the rails, before Chris Campana steps in to help finish off the series. Neither are particularly bad per se, but things get progressively sketchier as the book goes on, and it feels like a bit of a workhorse for either artist to finish the series by the time it comes to a close.
Okay, but a little slapdash on both fronts, which is a shame, because the premise is pretty solid. Who doesn't love vampire hunters?
I quite enjoyed this run. This was a fun little team dealing with the fallout of the Blood Hunt event. Curing vampires and hunting down the Bloodcoven. I like the way they ended up working together and the interactions they had. I’m hoping to see this team together again sometime.
2.25 I really enjoyed the rocky ragtag dynamic of the Blood Hunters in Blood Hunt proper and wanted more of the special vampires that make up the Bloodcoven. So I came in pumped for this book. Sadly it ended up really meh, bland, and forgettable. It tries to have nonstop action but it doesn't really land and there isn't much character development. Legit no one grows or does anything interesting. It's meh fight to meh fight with little of interest or anything of substance. Miles Morales is added and then disappears making it feel like he was there to drum up readership. They don't even win, Cloak appears to teleport the vampires away. Really nothing of note. Does the sin of just being completely boring and forgettable. A shame considering the cast could be fun. I felt like the dynamic was stronger in the original mini-series from Blood Hunt. Yelena and Elsa Bloodstone of note just feel like stereotypes of themselves as they become just Russian person speaks a little roughly and talks bluntly and British lady talks with British slang.

Good lord, Marvel is putting out some slapdash books lately. This feels like they created it in about 30 minutes and given how bad the art is, that may be how long Robert Gill had to draw it as well. Even with zero backgrounds, Gill couldn't keep up and needed help with the last 2 issues and the art up to that point looked like breakdowns that Rain Beredo attempted to hide behind his colors and speed lines. If you give one Marvel series a pass this year, I'd make it this one.
I really enjoy the dynamics between Dagger, White Widow, Spider-Man, Elsa Bloodstone and Hallows' Eve. Definitely awaiting and looking forward to a return of the Blood Hunters team.
