A mage who was petrified for twenty years is restored only to find her adoring former pupil all grown up in this steamy fantasy romance. (Also a hit manga!)Lara Bradley, a renowned mage, sets off to defeat a low-risk monster with her young apprentice Alistair, who never stops proposing to her. But instead of a minor threat, they encounter the world's most dangerous creature--a dragon! In a desperate bid to save Alistair, Lara faces the dragon alone and casts a spell that turns herself to stone. Twenty years later, the petrification spell breaks, and Lara awakens in a world that has moved on--except for Alistair, who never forgot her. The boy she once knew has grown into a powerful, determined man who's eager to make up for lost time with his beloved master. As they reconnect, will sparks fly, or are they doomed to repeat past mistakes?
I have found it: the Unholy Grail of Bad Sex Scene Writing. It is contained within this ridiculous book, and it is the line "He filled her like a pastry." Bow down before the sheer force of tortured imagination that came up with it.
So this is an awkward little romance. The heroine raised the hero from when he was 8 until he was 12, at which point she cast a spell to save him from a dragon which resulted in her being petrified for twenty years. Then she revives, he's thirty-two, and, uh, pastry-filling ensues. Also, he's been fondling her statue-self for twenty years while transforming a province into her utopian society because he loves her so much. I honestly don't know what to think.
I guess file this one under "Here is a book you can read. Proceed with caution."
This was sweet, sexy, and a little heartbreaking. Alistair's all consuming love for Lara was both the source of his grief and his salvation. But Lara is a great character too. I was worried her portrayal as someone completely pure hearted would make her flat, but she had much more depth than that, and it was often funny being in her mind. There are a few areas in which I wished the story had provided more detail and the ending was a bit rushed, but I still enjoyed this very much.
I started to get into Light Novels (Japanese novels) and just like anything, you have to accept it for what it is. It's like when I watch C dramas (Chinese Dramas), you have to accept the Chinese propaganda when you watch them. Light Novels aren't going to have your typical Western smut style of writing and I'm all for it.
I'm glad I randomly picked up this book because the reviews weren't great and the cover art isn't my style. There was something about the premise that got me interested. It's not what the title suggests... well not entirely.
Lara is a mage and she is taking care of another mage, Alistair, who is eight years old. She takes care of him between the ages 8 through 12. When Alistair's is 12, they both confront a dragon where Lara makes herself turn into stone so she can protect herself. It takes 20 years before she turns back to a human who hasn't aged since the day she stoned herself.
Kind of cute and funny huh? Alistair is now 32 and I think Laura is in her late twenties when she turned herself to stone. The novel is smutty, there's no way around it, so you will get a lot of explicit scenes (and don't think of it the western writing style). You can hire the best translator, but unless the translator wants to write in the western style format, it's going to be within the Light Novel bounds of writing, which I don't mind at all.
The novel has a lot of back story where it goes back and forth between past and present (which I wasn't a fan of), but it's an easy and fast book. The author just wants to explain why Alistair loves Lara so much and you can only get that by reading his thoughts when he was with her when he was young.
Overall, if you are like me, like smutty Light Novels every now and then, this one is a good one.
I surprisingly enjoyed this light novel despite the very obnoxious title lol.
Alistar a possessive yandere-ish character and Lara is your stereotypical otome airhead female lead. It's a good generic combo that can go good or bad. What made this story special was the worldbuilding and the mystery behind it. I thought that it would just be your common fantasy world with class tier mages, but a character in the book accentuates that there is a cloud to be cleared with how Alistar is deemed to be so powerful. I kind of wish the author dove into that more, or at least created a short series to explain it (and possibly introduce romantic rivalry and more boombayah). Plus, their backstories and relationship bonding went so great that I want more!! We get to know so much about Lara and Alistar that I can't believe that's that.
Now onto my concerns... I am not too comfortable with the fact that their relationship went from family to romantic. Lara quite literally raised Alistar and now fell in love with him because he's her type... yeah that's a little weird. She took "I can save him" literally (and it actually worked). I love the yearning from Alistar but the context just doesn't sit well with me. I guess that's the creative aspect of light novels and its tropes.

Normally yandere characters give me the ick. I can never seem to suspend my disbelief for them.
But male character in this one was actually sort of adorable? In a unhinged, obsessive way... I did laughed out loud when I read a comment that said he showed all the green flags! He really really did not. But the female character was okay with it so...
Plus it was refreshing to see a male character actually mean it when he proclaim that there is just one woman for him.
Zero interest in reading the light novel though. I think the manga is the better mdium for this kind of story.
If you just think about the overall plot, this was a nice a fun experience. On the other hand, the romance and sex was disgusting and made this book hard to fully read. Luckily, nothing significant happens during those scenes, so they are easy to skip past. I’m serious, btw. I did a big NOPE when I read the line “filled her like a pastry.” DISGUSTING.
Other than the sex scenes, I enjoyed this book, but I probably won’t read it ever again because it didn’t impress me.
I read it for the lols because the title was a bit over the top and the plot seemed messy, but it ended up being really fun and cute. The storytelling and the characters had a lot of charisma. I wish there was more because I really had a good time reading Alistair and Lara's shenanigans. I was doubtful about the romantic relationship but I ultimately gave in. Very self indulgent, that I can tell, thankfully, I'm into every trope presented in the plot.
light novel (complete) manga v1-the art in the light novel is a LOT better and the manga simplifies the character design but smooths out the yandere aspect manga v2 manga v3 manga v4 manga v5
This was a fun and super quick read! The premise is as over-the-top as the title, and honestly, it leans right into that drama. Lara Bradley, a legendary mage, wakes up after being petrified for twenty years, only to find her former apprentice, Alistair, is now a powerful mage completely obsessed with her. Their dynamic is intense, full of tension, drama, and just enough steamy moments to keep things entertaining.
Like most light novels, this one isn’t too heavy on character development or world-building. The pacing is definitely on the rushed side, and some plot points feel a little underexplored, but it’s not really trying to be anything deeper than a fun escape. The quirky premise and fast-moving plot make it the kind of story you can finish in one sitting.
It's super easy to read and a nice way to be entertained for a few hours.
4 Stars I know it's not finished yet, considering that we are still on chapter 28, but I really enjoyed reading this manga. The two main characters were so fit for each other.
