This is such a unique, lovely little book with a hopeful message and a gorgeous last-page artwork. With skillfully crafted words that linger long after reading them, the author draws reader's attention to the little things we sometimes forget or fail to notice. Though simple and short, the book reminds you of the difference between solitude and loneliness, makes you think about the openness to other people and the impression you leave on them, and encourages you to get up and wander around.
*I received an ARC of this book but that in no way alters my review*
Such a beautiful little book, both in the exquisite images and the poetry of the writing. I've been a fan of Darby's for a long time, and I love the way he is forever trying to tackle the really big questions of existence itself. Who are we? What is our essential self? And how do we justify our existence in the face of an indifferent universe? All of which makes 'Walk' sound a little sad, which it is. But it's also incredibly hopeful. I've re-read this a dozen times over the last few weeks and every time I close it, I do so with a smile on my face and a flicker of hope in my heart. Exquisite.
A Little Crease of Comfort. Darby Hudson: Walk Smashwords Edition, Australia, 2012 (2017 this edition). ISBN: 978-0-646-96072-2, pp.32, $20.00
I’m strangely comforted by the hardcover casing of Darby Hudson’s Walk. Like a chest with secrets locked inside, the book explores the dark and captivating composure that a walk can elicit. It’s ominous, from the words that whisper at you from the page, to the artwork that scratches itself into your soul.
“Your walk is your DNA in motion.”
I wanted more from the words, lyrically placed across each page, and to connect further with the sense of walking. Personally, walking is one of the only things that can calm me down also. So reading about it is all the more therapeutic and resonant. I identify with Hudson’s appreciation of a walk, and would love further exploration of the influence and interactions human actions on our being. This pulled at my heart, and it was a pleasure to be able to read it.

Reading this feels different every time and I've never read anything else like it. No matter who you gift it to, they'll connect with it. A beautiful little dream of a book.
