This book is about a girl who, while she's training for the olympics, gets stabbed. This lifts a spell, meaning that she becomes a changeling. Obviously, this changes a lot for her. She finds out that her lawnguy has a curse, that can only be lifted by the so called 'changeling's dagger' and she decides to help him, but other people also want the dagger for more evil reasons.
First I want to talk about the writing style: At first I thought the book was written very childish. There wasn't any depth to the feelings as they were more written out as thoughts. When the book progresses, though, the writing of Renwick also improves. Her writing at first made it a bit hard to start, but when the book progressed I was flying through it.
Then, the pace, as it was very quick paced at first. A bit too quick for me, there was so much happening already at page 17. Throughout the book it becomes better, until the last 50 pages. Those went by in some blur and the ending came a bit too abrupt to my liking.
I did like the story very much, the plot felt very unique. I've never read a book with a concept like this before, so that made it a very fun read aswell. I was very much into the plot when the story started to progress a little, so I think that Renwick did that very well.

Changeling's Dagger took a while for me to get into. It was difficult to suspend reality and emotionally connect with the characters immediately as the characters own emotions were written shallowly. Too much telling me how they feel, not enough showing. Their determination, anger, heartbreak, fear --they struggled to come across in a way that was believable. Once the plot started to pick up the pace, the investment increased a lot and included twists I hadn't expected, feelings of hope and wondering what will come next. Mystery, adventure: B+, romance: C. The angst? I feel like the author both wanted it but didn't want to wallow, leaving or feeling like "meh, who cares" 3.5 stars.

This book was a lot of fun! Somewhat shallowly written, and a lot of what we see is pretty surface level, but I enjoyed the premise and the world the author has created. Even if the character motivations could get a bit confusing, it was still fun to see them move through a world of magic, shape-changers, elves, fairies, and dragons!
If you are looking for super in-depth high fantasy then this isn’t it, but if you want an easy, enjoyable read to fill an afternoon then Changeling’s Dagger has you covered.
Kenya discovers her origins, and Camilo is tasked to find a dagger that will cure his curse. This story has twists and turns that were surprising yet somewhat expected in someways which was intriguing. I really enjoyed the buildup to the climatic portion of the story. The end was a bit abrupt, since I wanted more but overall, it was an entertaining read.
