I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.' What if we can learn to embrace the nearness of God in the midst of our suffering? What if God’s good plan is to work through our trials rather than simply take them away? After living for more than a decade with a debilitating nerve condition in both arms, Dave Furman shows us that God, in his grace, always designs trials for our good. He doesn't minimize the pain, but infuses significance into our suffering, demonstrating that, even when we're tossed to and fro by stormy waves, God is near... and that makes all the difference in the world.
Dave Furman (ThM, Dallas Theological Seminary) serves as the senior pastor of Redeemer Church of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, which he planted in 2010. Dave and his wife, Gloria, have four children.
This is a great book that encourages Christians to look at our Saviour in the midst of suffering. It is a really good and thoughtful gift to give to a suffering friend, who might struggle with mental health, physical pain and illness or brokenness in their soul.
Encouraging, but very simple, entry-level book on suffering. Great if that’s what you are looking for. I’m thankful for Dave and Gloria’s faith and ministry.
Note that this is the exact same work first published under the title “Kiss the Wave”. I don’t love it when publishers do that.
