Amari Moody, the daughter of a powerful mafia boss, is navigating her life with a mental health disorder and a troubled past. Just as she is finding her footing, her world is turned upside down when her father arranges a marriage between her and Domonick Rivera, the son of a rival cartel leader.
Amari is hesitant, but as she gets to know Domonick, she finds herself drawn to him in ways she can't explain. Meanwhile, finding out her best friend Britt is pregnant with Amari's brother Channing's child causes a rift in their lifelong friendship.
As the wedding approaches, tensions rise, and secrets are revealed, threatening to tear apart the delicate balance of power in the criminal underworld. Amari must decide if she can trust Domonick and embrace this unexpected union.
With high-stakes drama, sizzling romance, and glimpses into the lavish yet dangerous world of organized crime, this captivating story will keep you turning the pages to uncover the fate of these interconnected characters.
This was an okay book, for a part 1 of a series I am guessing it hardly had any plot to it whatsoever, there were too many inconsistencies, unfinished or ignored plot devices (Amari being in school and supposed to be graduating, the first guy at the school who showed her interest, Britt with that guy who was her client?) Also I could feel this book was a set up for a series but it could have been done better with a plot showing us the motivation for the cliffhanger at the end. There were also some errors in the POVs where it randomly switched from one character to another’s. Also a lot of repetition in description of things and errors, Dom first said he got his Rolls for his 25th birthday then it was his 18th, the wedding is in 2 days then in the same breath 2 weeks? It would have been a great story as the concept is amazing had it been set up properly!
Best friends …her brother …and the new guy in the family
Yes this book was entertaining from being to cliffhanger. It has Multiple POV which helps build the suspense. Amari and Dom are off to an interesting start meanwhile we are thrust into the middle of Brit and Channing relationships woes. Waiting to see where the chaos leads
Few errors but it doesn’t take away from the story .
2.5 This story has potential and overall I like the idea behind this book. The multiply POVs had me trying to keep up with the drama in this series. I like the two main couples in the book even the toxic one. I feel like this book had some plot issues overall I like the story.
Lawd, this cliffhanger got me messed up. I hope brit and baby boy are OK. Slaughter and Channing are going to tear this island up. This is a good book. 5 stars
Debut author!! Yes this is how you start off…GOOD JOB! I can’t wait for part 2 because I have to know how this to ends. The cliffhanger caught me off guard so yeah I need part 2 like now!
This is more like maybe 2.5 stars only because I kind of like the characters. They could be a little dramatic in my opinion. Also the amount of errors in one chapter the author switched POVs throughout the chapter and it became confusing. Other than that the book was pretty much boring with a lot of repetition. When I say NOTHING happened until the very end, I do mean nothing happened for real. The very last two pages something happened and now we have to wait in a part 2. I had to skip so many pages to make it to the end just for nothing. I mean I will read part 2 just to see the outcome but if it goes passed 2 parts I won’t finish. Also what happened to the dude at the beginning, he was never brought back up and her bad feeling never turned into anything. Actually she never even went back to school.
It was I wanna say an okay read but only because the characters were okay, not because of the story that was boring.
The book lacked a substantial plot and although it’s supposedly centred around an arranged marriage the idea isn’t presented to either parties until the last quarter of the book.
There were too many plot inconsistencies. Amari and dom meeting at the club and exchanging numbers to then meeting again and her telling him good luck on finding her number? Dominic being introduced as the oldest but in the middle of the book is suddenly referred to as the youngest, and those are just a few of many. The random POV changes mid chapter also make it harder to follow the story.
Another point to add is that the families involved are of Italian descent however use ‘hijo’ and ‘padre’ which are Spanish words.
Overall the book could use a second or third edit to help iron out these details and enhance reader experience.
Dom is my guy, Amari is my homegirls, Brit rubbed me the wrong way when she found out she was pregnant with Channings baby, and Channing is starting to grow on me. Channing is a male h@e and he is proud of it, until his ways cost him the love of his life. Brit was tired of Channings lack of respect for her and their situationship. When Brit found out she was pregnant, (in my opinion) she taunted Channing by always telling him she was going to abort the baby. Now that’s something that I didn’t like about that heffa. I understand that he hurt her, but to consistently tell that man that she was going to abort the baby, was selfish. The reason why I say that Brit is selfish is because she wasn’t getting rid of the baby because they were not ready or any reason that made sense, she was getting rid of the baby because Channing hurt her and she was being spiteful. Brit didn’t consider anyone in her decision she just made up her mind and reminded Channing every chance she got that he was not gonna be a father. Anywho, it’s safe to say that Brit officially got on my nerves with that.
I am very interested to see Dom and Amari’s marriage turn out. I mean there is a clear connection that those two have, so I can’t wait to dive into book 2. FYI, I hope Brit and baby is ok, because that cliffhanger had me yelling at my Kindle.
I enjoyed reading about a black fmc with bipolar schizophrenia. This is definitely something that isn’t explored a lot. I really don’t like when the main narrator talks to the audience. It really turns me off from a book. Like a lot. I’m not in the story! Don’t talk to me! Every character introduction they did it, too! Learning about the characters should happen naturally throughout the story. It felt like cheating on character development. However, I kept reading it because I really just wanted to enjoy the storyline. There were a couple things in the storyline that bothered me. I didn’t like the mixing of alcohol with pregnancy. I can’t stand the word seed!!!! And it was weird the main character would be called slim on one page then a size 18 on another page. Nothing wrong with being a size 18, but I wouldn’t consider it slim?? And a couple things that didn’t make sense plot wise but I just went along with it. But that’s just me… Someone else could read it and have an entirely different perspective. Coming into this book, I knew it was a series so I was very pleased with the ending and how the fmc and mmc progressed in their relationship. There’s still a lot of room for growth between the two and since it ended on a cliffhanger, I’ll be reading the next book.
Wow this book indeed captured my attention. The things we sometimes have to endure because of family, it just so happened that in this case Amari and Dom were already slightly attracted to each other before they knew they were to marry one another. The way they felt for each other when they touch as well as her being able to open up about her illness and he standing firm with still wanting her, but like he stated he needed to handle some loose ends and he.needed to handle them fast because not sure what ole girl was capable of and with her dad trying to get Intel on Dom's family. Now Channing realizing that the women he's been taking advantage of all this time was indeed the one that held the key to his heart but once Britt told him she was done he just didn't understand how he could fix things and win her back it was going to be a long road ahead of them; but this cliff hanger I don't want to say too much but Madam Wise you know you had me screaming I need book 2 like seconds ago. This is a must read it gives drama, love, health issues and.much more that some of us may be able to relate to. Great book thus far.
This book did too much while giving the reader nothing regarding the plot.
Amari and Dominick are the main couple, well it seems like they are supposed to be but there was more about Channing’s and Brit’s relationship. Which was weird. Britt cries about Channing constantly cheating but Amari talks about Britt and her having several sexual partners. Even walked in on her before.
We didn’t get enough of Dominick and it was unrealistic how they ended up staying next door to each other on a random vacation. The scenes we did get of Amari and Dominick was low-key boring. As was the cliffhanger. I’ll probably pass on part two.
This story delivers a sharp blend of emotional chaos and criminal intrigue. Amari’s struggle with her mental health and her dangerous family legacy makes her instantly compelling, and the arranged marriage to Domonick adds real tension instead of predictable romance. Their slow-burn connection feels earned, not forced, and the fallout from Britt and Channing’s secret adds a believable layer of betrayal. As secrets surface and alliances shift, the plot keeps tightening without losing sight of the characters’ personal battles. It’s a fast, engaging read that balances heart, heat, and high-stakes drama with surprising control.
The potential is there for sure, but this book fell a little flat for me. Amari & Dom and their arranged marriage is not the focal point of this book to me. They don’t even discover they are marrying each other until 80-85% of the way through the book. Channing & Britt’s situation seemed to be the focus of this book which would be fine if it was advertised as their story. Nothing significant was happening with Amari & Dom’s situation throughout the whole book.
4.2 ☆ Great start to a good series. Since this is book 1 in the series, we were introduced to EVERYBODY! I felt like maybe we could have read a glossary at the end with every character because some of the POV's I felt like we really didn't need. And they didn't add anything to the story. I wanted more of Brittnee, Amari, Channing, and Don personal and relationship ! . The cliffhanger !!!!!!!!!!!! Yea, I need book 2 tomorrow.
Speechless!!!…The way my mouth dropped at that ending!!!… I truly hope Britt and baby are okay and I’m glad that Amari still has the wherewithal to keep moving and trying to make sure her reins is okay!!!… Now I need to know if Dominik is okay!!… I hope that is not his stalkier setting it off like that because I’m sure she is trailing him, especially if she’s showing up on like she has been!!!…
This was definitely a good opener... Did you see some of the characters a little bit of the back story, I'm definitely intrigued to see what happens in the second and third book. I like the dynamic of all of the characters, specifically our main leads relationship. Idk how I feel about Britt and Channing relationship, I'm def not routing for it but I'm not opposed to it down the line. Definitely a decent read and I can't wait to see what .
Madam, WHAT THE ENTIRE F***?!?! How could you do this to us??? First Amari’s mental troubles to Britt’s affair with Channing to the intro of Dom! Next the mafia families & their story. Then Rocco & Lana! This was too much but not enough at the same time!!! We need more!!!!
Mafia… Arranged Marriage … I enjoyed this book. The joining of the last family into the organization is changing the game for how Mari has been able to move about. Slaughta is one who is going to get what he wants…Channing… I’m excited to see where his story goes. Congrats on your first book Madam Wise
This book was the bomb.com!!!! I can honestly say one of the best book I have read this year. I usually only stick with the author I’m use to but Baby i’m so glad I read this book. Yess I’m patiently waiting for part two. Going to recommend my book club to read this book. Great great job.
I usually hate cliffhangers, but this one did it! Not sure how I feel about Amari she literally went from mature and level headed to some mafia chick within two seconds. Channing and his audacity has me giggling. Everyone else I love because they standing on business. Keep it going sis!
Normally I hate a cliffhanger but I swear this was done with precision. From the top of this book I was intrigued and so roped in. I just know Amari and Alikay have stories to tell. Rocco & Lana can already kiss my ssa lol bacillus know they’re a whole mess. I can’t wait to dive deeper into Domonik’s story. Amazing book. Thank you.
Child this was too much and I’m sorry but please hurry with book 2. These book series be getting on my nerves. I hope Brit is okay and the baby is good. I’m wondering who tried to hurt Amari and Brit. I do know between her Dad and new husband ain’t no telling.
Chokehold, complete chokehold. I'm glad all the books are out because that ending...MANNNN! Amari and Dom had me reading like somebody was chasing me. There was so much to digest in this book with Amari navigating her mental health, being exposed to lies, and forced to marry. This series has potential and I see war brewing on the horizon.
Got intro to a new, to me, author. I like the piece if the story, the plot, and the dialogue. Some grammatical errors are noted but hot enough go disrupt the story. Even though Amari has some mental health issues she seems pretty sane while in the meds, hopefully we don't see her off of them. Ended on a cliffhanger, so I'm headed over to part 2.
4.75⭐️ some of the dialogue had me cringing just a lil bit 😭😂, but overall I really enjoyed this book! It kept me hooked, and that ending?! Whew, I’m intrigued. I’m definitely continuing the series because I need answers! This one surprised me in a good way and had just enough drama to keep me turning the pages.
This book was so good ! I read it from start to finish in one sitting. It has one of my favorite tropes… arranged marriage and chile it’s some mess going on here ! Channing COME OUTSIDE ! I JUST WANNA TALK ! I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for part two.
I could smell the part 2. I need that part asap. Slaugtha and Amari r perfect for each other. I want to know what Amari damn grandfather do for real for real to almost get assassinated and who tf shot Britt?
Madam Wise this first release was awesome. I absolutely loved this book. I loved the characters and your development. I just hate you didn't warn us it was a cliffhanger
I really like enjoyed this . I really like the FMC and MMC . I thought the author did really good job of building the story and I anticipate the follow up. Slaughta and Amari are match .
Took me forever to start reading this book and wish I had not. Took much going on with way too many people to keep up with...maybe what some people like but I could not keep u with all the different characters. Maybe the next one would be better
