I recently received an ARC copy of this paperback & decided to take a break from my current book to read it. I admit, this wouldn’t be the typical book I’d reach for in a bookstore; however, I’m glad that I was gifted this opportunity because I did find it to be a fun experience.
I wasn’t sure how I’d feel going in, it took me time to get used to the writing style as it was different from the recent books I’ve read- but it didn’t take long to connect with the characters, their emotions, and to develop an intense curiosity for the mysteries at play.
It was a roller coaster of emotions while reading- enjoyment, excitement, happiness, surprise, confusion- and one of the more prevalent being concern. Concern for the total disregard at the amount of red flags that could be thrown at a person’s face (I’m looking at you, MC’s)! There were a lot of twists and turns that left me eager to read on to find out more as well as parts of the story I found to be a bit over the top or far fetched- it almost felt like a fun soap opera- that probably best describes it. And the more that I thought about it, the more I realized- I’ve met real people with wild, far fetched lives, you see outrageous stories on the news- people ignore the reddest of flags every single day- hell, sometimes they gather them up and ribbon dance with ‘em- this book accomplished exactly what a book is meant to do- I was entertained, enjoyed the characters (I mean, Sir Napoleon Pumpernickel, Amiright?), I felt invested in wanting to know what happened, and never once felt bored. If you over think or nit-pick, you can find something in any book- it’s supposed to be entertaining and it was. I enjoyed The Champagne Toast and if you’re looking for an out of the box, quick/fun, murder/mystery- I’d say to give it a go!
Also, author, @leahorr723 is not only absolutely wonderful herself, but she donates all of her book profits to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which is truly incredible and inspiring!
This charming and twist-filled tale kicks off when Marilyn and Scratch decide to play matchmakers, arranging a meeting between their best friends, Misty and Roland. The chemistry is instant—thanks to a chance encounter at the intriguingly themed nightclub, Angels and Demons—and it doesn't take long for sparks to fly. Misty, a spirited wedding planner, and Roland, a mysterious psychiatrist with a snobby cat named Sir Napoleon Pumpernickel, discover they share more than just attraction: both were raised by single mothers and carry long-buried family secrets.
Set largely in the quirky Opulence Hotel, the story effortlessly weaves humor, romance, and suspense, with a shocking champagne toast that changes everything. There are moments of heartfelt emotion, especially as past traumas rise to the surface, and just as many over-the-top twists that make this a fun and escapist read. The plot is fast-paced, the characters are delightfully eccentric, and the kids add an extra layer of charm and comic relief.
While at times unbelievable, that’s part of the book’s irresistible appeal. It’s a rollercoaster of laughs, love, and intrigue. Bonus points for the touching author’s note and additional short story that added depth and delight to an already entertaining book. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a little chaos with their romance.
This author is an amazing human. I just don’t think I’m quite the reader for her books. I enjoyed this one but I think the cover distracts from the fact that this is a bit of a thriller. A light suspense if you will. It moved very quickly and you definitely need to suspend some reality. A quick listen and a fun read if I look past the things that just didn’t quite work for me.
This book was... interesting! I wouldn't say I didn't like it, I enjoyed it, I just feel like the characters weren't for me? I don't know! They were 30 years old acting as if they were 13...that really cringed me out! But I did enjoy the story! And the love story was really sweet!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the very sweet author for personally sending me a copy of this book after I won a goodreads giveaway! And for the note and bookmark! 💛
I received an ARC copy of this paperback book. Thank you to author Leah Orr! This was a page turning thriller about Misty and Roland who meet at a bar and quickly fall in love. Parts of their past are revealed throughout the book when strange people start showing up in their day to day lives. I was able to read this book in a day! The short chapters and cliffhangers had me quickly devouring the book just to get to the ending. Although it was a quick book, I did feel's parts were a little rushed. This would be the perfect palette cleanser after reading a heavy book or if you are in a reading slump and need a quick read to jump start you!
I LOVE that Leah donates all profits of her books to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of her daughter, Ashley who is afflicted with the deadly disease.
4/5 I received an ARC copy of this paperback book The Champagne Toast by Leah Orr. This one opens up with a bang and pulls you in from the first page. It's very fast paced and I loved all of the characters! The plot is excellent and the plot twist, I definitely did not see coming from a mile away lol! I adored the Disney part of this story and will be definitely be recommending this one. :)
I received an ARC copy of this paperback book. Leah Orr's The Champagne Toast is not the usual book I would have chosen to read. I will be a fan of Leah Orr moving forward. I enjoyed this book so much that I finished it in a single day. It was the ideal book for me to read while on vacation. I'll admit that this book took me by surprise and was enjoyable. I was wondering who the murderer was during this entire story. This book's twist caught me off guard. Usually, I can predict how a book will conclude. This romance thriller was entertaining.
I enjoyed the bond between Roland and Misty. When a man does not criticize a woman based on her diet, it makes me love him even more. However, I also love Disney, so I'm thrilled that it was a major influence on this book.
“It’s okay to feel all the feels. Feel all the emotions. Let is all out. Just don’t get stuck in them.”
One night, Misty and Roland meet at a bar and immediately click. They were unaware that their two closest friends were plotting to set them up, though. Roland is a psychiatrist, and Misty plans weddings. Sir Napoleon Pumpernickel, Roland's cat, despises everyone, and Misty is determined to win his affection along with Rolands. They begin to realize how much they have in common, which strengthens their bond. Both of their fathers passed away when they were young, and they were raised by single mothers. Their mothers immediately clicked and quickly became friends because of their common life experiences.
I just loved this Disney Reference.
“I always thought of my mom as the fairy godmother type. She was such a helpful, sweet, lady who helped me overcome every challenge I encountered as a kid. But she’s not like that fairy godmother at all. Cruella de Vil.” “Well, if your mom is Cruella de Vil, then my mom has to be Ursula, the sea witch, who just sits back and watches bad things happen to Ariel. Ariel was my dad’s girlfriend.”
Leah Orr also donates the profits from all her books to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, as her youngest daughter, Ashley, is afflicted by it.
This was a fun thriller ride that had me hooked right from the beginning. I enjoyed the twists and turns and character development throughout. I also really enjoyed the references to popular culture like Disney characters. This was a great, quick read!
I received an ARC copy of this paperback book! The story started off with a literal champagne toast at Misty and Roland’s wedding. Jumping right into action of the unexpected event that ensues immediately after. I loved Misty and Roland’s relationship!! Both sharing past trauma and mothers who have dark secrets. Twists after twists in this story!! I’m going to be honest I did not see main plot twist coming! A story filled with so much mystery you have to keep going. Entertaining, quick read, dual POV, therapist MMC, insta-love, disney, mystery, murders, luxury wedding.
I received an arc copy of this book “The Champagne Toast” from Leah Orr.
This is a cute love story, mixed with family drama with suspense/twists at every turn. So many genres wrapped into one, I love it!!! I really enjoyed Leah’s style of writing. I definitely recommend reading!
I fell in love with each character, Especially mama Russo! 💩 🫣🤣
I really enjoyed how the story unraveled and the ending was *chefs 💋”
The Champagne Toast is a gripping psychological thriller packed full of twists that will keep you guessing - you won’t be able to put this book down until you have read the entire thing! The story had me hooked from the beginning - I read it in just one day!
A love story, full of deception, misinterpretation and of course murder, sign me up – I’m here for it! I loved the author’s storytelling and how she brought the characters together and took us along on their journey.
Marilyn and Scratch found love and they decide to set up their friends Misty and Roland but of course they don’t know they are being set up. Marilyn and Misty go out to a club called Angels and Demons and you decide which side of the club you want to go to – quite a unique twist and I loved this concept. Marilyn disappears for a moment and Misty ends up meeting this really sexy guy (who just happens to be Scratch’s friend) and they make an immediate connection. Misty and Roland decide to go on a second date and the story moves quickly from there but at just the right pace.
It's a great quick read full of the complexities of friendship, love, family secrets and hidden truths. After all, “everyone lies” …..
This is Book 3, which is a stand-alone with a series (Murder at the Opulence Hotel). I didn’t realize that this book was part of a series with Book 1 being the Executive Suite and Book 2 being The Bartender. These have now been added to my TBR and I will be reading these soon! I can’t wait to read more of her books.
This book made me feel old with one sentence... " "The moms are incessantly chatting about growing up in the eighties-blah, blah, blah, Bon Jovi, blah, blah, blah, Madonna has gone off the deep end, blah blah blah, Prince was born ahead of his time and something about partying like it's 1999-" I grew up on Bon Jovi, Madonna, AND Prince!!!
This was like reading an episode of Days of Our Lives! (Did I just age myself again?)Twist and turns and gasp moments. Suspend your beliefs because this is a wild ride. All that is missing is a case of amnesia.
This is a sweet closed door (completely closed) romance wrapped up in a thriller. One minute cute and fluffy, and the next twisted with a splash of possible murder.
I've been in a bit of a depression this month and haven't done much reading. This book sucked me in on page one, and I read it in a day. Easy short chapters. Likable adorable characters. It's funny with a side of creepy. Fun summer reading.
Bonus..... this book came with a short spooky story at the end! There's nothing to do with The Champagne Toast 🍾 but just a fun little extra.
Never meddle in other people’s affairs- does that extend to matchmaking? Thankfully when Marilyn and Scratch play matchmaker to their friends Misty and Roland there is an instant spark! But as their love story unfolds, can their future withstand the weight of their families vengeful pasts?
This is book 3, but can be read as a stand alone (I had not read the first 2 books and did not feel there was an issue). I got the opportunity to listen to this book dual narrated by Annalee Scott and Danny Montooth. They both did an excellent job!
I loved the fast pace, twisty, gripping thrill this book gave me as I listened. I was waiting for the next “Wait, What!?!?” to jump out at me! This was my first book by Leah Orr and I will definitely be back for more!
Thank you to author, Leah Orr, for the opportunity to read this book. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
I went into book blindly, after Author Leah Orr sent me the ebook to review. I was hooked from the prologue right away. This book got me in a good way, was not expecting the ending. I like that we will never know the answer with Roland. His mom Sue is crazy! 😂
Really good thriller!! Listened to the audio thanks to Leah!! This was my last book to complete my 100 books in 2024. It was just what I needed. Intense psychological thriller, kept me on edge. Had a mature love story included, which I enjoy when reading a thriller / suspense as well.
Leah Orr has a way of pulling in the reader with a fast pace story full of twists and turns that will keep you on your toes guessing. What can go wrong when Misty has a strange stalker and Roland finds himself unsettled with a new patient? You’re going to have to read for yourself to find out.
I enjoyed this. It was a good novella. A nice short story I read in one day. I loved the characters names in this book, very original. My favorite quote in the book : “Get over it. Life’s not pretty. I don’t know why people pretend it should be.” This book was def super face-paced but I still feel like I connected with the characters and got to know them. Mr. Jones was an awkward character who felt like they didn’t belong and was just placed in the book. BUT OMG the ending!! That’s messed up, wrong 😑 (I liked that!!)
I received an ARC copy of this paperback book. What a great psychological thriller full of romance, mystery, family drama, and even a few laughs! I binged it all in one day and the final twist shook me! Can’t recommend it enough!
Thank you Leah for sending me your book! 💛It was so cool to get official book mail! 🫶 Also, wow, I read that you donate ALL your proceeds from your books to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of your daughter who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. The Orr Family has raised over $1,400,000 over the past 21 years to help find a cure. Absolutely amazing!
Now onto the review: This was such a fun, witty thriller! I was deeply invested in the story, and was trying to figure out what the twist would be the entire time! There were so many truths brought to light that made my mind spiral! And I couldn’t believe the ending!!
If you like quick thrillers, this one is for you!! I truly couldn’t put it down!
I received an ARC review paperback copy of this book and was very excited to read it! I’m usually a romance reader, but love a good mystery, so this murder mystery romance was calling my name. Overall, it was a solid book and a cool story. I definitely didn’t see the ending coming!
-Trauma Bonding -Murder Mystery -Friends Play Matchmakers
First of all, this author reached out to me and sent me a copy of this book. With it, I received a bookmark and a letter from the author. In the letter, she mentioned all proceeds from book sales go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). As soon as I read that, I was excited to read this book. I have a special place in my heart for the CFF and love that she goes out of her way to support them.
This book is a murder mystery that highlights a couples love story and some strange connections they share from their past. This book hooks you early on with some strange behavior that leaves you needing answers. As you continue reading, some crazy secrets come out but things aren’t adding up. Once we find out who Jane really is, some answers start coming out, but it’s hard to know what the real truth is by the end of the book.
There was a twist at the end that at first had me feeling disappointed to see the 6 deaths were fake. But then I read about the real murder and was shocked to see how casually Sue was able to act afterwards😂
Overall, I think it was a really creative story and it’s something I’ve never seen before. I would recommend this book to a friend and again, I love the foundation the author supports 🫶🏼

I had the amazing opportunity of receiving an ACR copy of this book and coming from a SLOW READER, I read this in less than a day! There is so much going on in this story that my brain was constantly focused on something and I didn’t even notice how fast the book had gone by! I love the dual point of view and the two main characters are so cute!!! I look forward to reading more by Leah Orr and think everyone should SUPPORT LOCAL AUTHORS AND ARTISTS! Thank you again for considering me and sending me a paperback ARC copy I wish you nothing but the best! 💛💛💛
I recently received an ARC copy of The Champagne Toast by Leah Orr. A quick entertaining physiological read that keeps you from putting it down. I enjoyed this short read. Thank you Leah Orr!!
Orr immediately goes into the sound of shattering champagne flutes from six of her bridal party members and falling to the floor with blood draining from their eyes and nose. Both Rolland and Misty find themselves bonding from their own childhood trauma and moms who have hidden their own secrets from them. When a sealed box of a burnt bunny shows up he finds himself trying to uncover his past. After revealing some of the trauma he decides to take a spur of the moment Disney cruise with Misty, Scratch and Marylin.

I was absolutely hooked from the very first chapter — the mystery surrounding the fire had me turning pages as fast as I could. I thought I had it all figured out, but Leah Orr had other plans, and the twists completely caught me off guard. The pacing was perfect, the characters felt real, and the tension kept me invested all the way through. A truly addictive read that blends intrigue, emotion, and surprise in the best way.
I received an arc copy of this book from the author and she is just the kindest person who donates the proceeds so I wanted to start there, as I feel that is even more important than just reading and reviewing. That said, the book hooks you in right away with a wedding, champagne, and 6 people dropping dead. Then we go back a few months to try to solve this mystery. From there, this book just flies! It’s a very quick read and if you want to binge something, this is definitely one to do it with. The couple meet through their best friends. They start learning things of their past. The mfc is being stalked at work, the mmc is being stalked in a different way. The moms are hilarious and I love that they connected instantly. Must be the most dysfunctional friendship I’ve ever seen but it works. I don’t even want to say anything negative. This might not be a negative but more of a visual problem for me personally. There’s a character whom we don’t really like due to lies, twists, family secrets etc, and I just can’t imagine what she actually looks like age wise. And for some reason, that bothers me. But I really recommend it and really enjoyed it!

The Champagne Toast hooked me right from the start—and I ended up really enjoying it! It’s one of those twisty, can't-trust-anyone thrillers that keeps the pages flying and your mind racing. Just when you think you know what's going on... plot twist!
The story opens dramatically—at Misty and Roland’s wedding, during the champagne toast. Sounds romantic, right? Wrong. Something major happens, and we’re immediately thrown back several months to watch their whirlwind love story unfold—and slowly unravel.
Misty is a great main character: strong, relatable, and quietly resilient. You want her to find happiness, but it’s clear early on that nothing’s going to be easy. Roland? He’s the kind of character that keeps you on edge the whole time—charming one moment, suspicious the next. That tension had me hooked.
I also loved how the story weaves in deeper themes—past trauma, family secrets, and the question of how well we ever really know someone. The romance has a “match made in heaven (or is it?)” vibe, and when their mothers unexpectedly bond, a whole new layer of emotional chaos is unleashed.
Some highlights for me: 🍾 The fast-paced plot and snappy chapters 🍾 The way the suspense builds from romantic to unsettling 🍾 That constant feeling of “what is really going on here?” 🍾 A finale that made me go, "Wait, WHAT?!"
And a big shout-out to author Leah Orr—she donates her profits to cystic fibrosis research, which is just amazing. It added a layer of meaning to the reading experience and made me feel even better about picking up the book.
Bottom line: If you’re in the mood for a quick, popcorn thriller with emotional depth and nonstop twists, The Champagne Toast totally delivers. It’s a little wild, a little dramatic, and a whole lot of fun. 🙃🍿
Thank you Leah Orr & Goodreads for my giveaway copy!
I received an ARC copy of this paperback book from the Leah Orr (Thank you!!!!) and all I have to say is Wow! I read the Fruitcake by Leah, which I thought was so fun but the Champagne Toast was even better! I absolutely loved this juicy murder mystery.
So Champagne Toast is a love story mixed with a whole bunch of drama, drama, drama and oh yeah, a murder!!! Marilyn and Scratch decide to play Cupid for their besties Misty and Roland, and guess what, sparks instantly. Pretty much love at first sight! But like, both Roland and Misty are hiding these super deep family secrets and childhood trauma. As their love story unfolds, all these hidden truths start bubbling up and take over, turning everything into this juicy mystery with so many twists and turns. You'll be on the edge of your seat the whole time, trust me!
The conversation between the characters flowed so well, it was like they were real people hanging out in my living room. The cheesy jokes throughout? Hilarious! I couldn't stop giggling. And let me tell you, when they started the Disney trivia, I was like, Okay, hold my win, I’ve got this in the bag!Seriously though, I would have won hands down!
And the twist? Well there were several twists, but the big twist…. I never saw it coming, which made it even more dramatic. I was like, Wait, WHAT?! It was so cool and very unexpected. This book would be perfect for anyone looking for a thriller without all the violence, dark plot lines and such. A fun, engaging ride that keeps you on your toes but doesn’t leave you hiding under the covers!
The Champagne Toast wasn’t my usual type of read, but it hooked me pretty quickly—and I ended up really enjoying it! It’s one of those thrillers that keeps you flipping pages, wondering who you can trust and what’s really going on beneath the surface.
The story follows Misty, who’s trying to move forward and start fresh after a painful past. When she meets Roland, he seems like the perfect guy—charming, successful, and genuinely into her. But of course, things are never that simple in a thriller, right? As secrets start to unravel and doubts creep in, Misty is forced to question everything she thought she knew—not just about Roland, but about herself too.
I really liked Misty as a character—she’s strong but vulnerable, and you genuinely want her to find happiness (and maybe a little peace). Roland is that kind of character who keeps you on edge the whole time… you’re not quite sure what to make of him, and I loved that tension. The pacing was great too—not overly complex, but just twisty enough to keep things interesting from beginning to end.
And I HAVE to shout out the author—she donates her profits to cystic fibrosis research, which is just incredible. It gives the book even more meaning, and honestly made me feel good supporting it.
If you’re in the mood for a quick, suspenseful read with some emotional depth and an author doing good in the world, give this one a read!
