Mercy Thompson is a shapeshifter, and while she was raised by werewolves, she can never be one of them, especially after the pack ran her off for having a forbidden love affair. So she’s turned her talent for fixing cars into a business and now runs a one-woman mechanic shop in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State.

But Mercy’s two worlds are colliding. A half-starved teenage boy arrives at her shop looking for work, only to reveal that he’s a newly changed werewolf—on the run and desperately trying to control his animal instincts. When a coyote shifter Volkswagon mechanic takes in a homeless new werewolf teen, her goal of keeping her head down and minding her own business in the local Tri-Cities supernatural community is blown to bits. This is not my first time reuniting with the first book in the Mercy Thompson urban fantasy world, but it was my first encounter with the Graphic Audio full cast edition which took a good story and made it even better.

Mercy had a unique upbringing and is a unique individual. She's young, but she has hidden depths that come out as the story progresses. She considers herself low in the supernatural power hierarchy, but it was fun seeing this underdog-erm under coyote find a way to get it done. Much of the story is introducing Patricia Briggs' urban fantasy world, but this does not bury the exciting story crescendoing to an action-packed climax.

Getting the sound effects, music, and full cast dramatization was sensational and I liked the voices chosen. I had to laugh at how Stefan was voice- very different from the one I had in my head for him.

All in all, a fun and exciting outing making me excited to listen in as Graphic Audio continues to release the rest of the series.

I loved the graphic audiobook!
I could imagine the word and all the people in it. At the moment only two graphic audiobooks are out. The third will be available at my retailer at the beginning of December. I'm looking forward to listen to it and will re listen to the first two books.

Edit March 2025:
I still love this graphicaudio production. I'm currently rereading them, because I have some unread audiobook of this series and want to listen to them.

What a wild ride, I love a good plot and this had it! Mysteries and vampires, wolf shifters and witches and a coyote shifter…. What else is going to happen to Mercedes Thompson??? I’m pumped to start book two with Graphic Audio! Two alpha male wolves and a single coyote female…. I sense romance aplenty!

Moon Called Dramatized Adaptation (Mercy Thompson #1) by Patricia Briggs Relisten: Yes. I listened the the Graphic Audio version just a few months ago but the second book in the series released so yeah, I had to relisten. Not much else to add.

Original: I have to admit, Graphic Audio does a great job adapting and presenting books. I thoroughly enjoy MOON CALLED the first time I read it (or listened to it...it's been awhile and I've forgotten...) and this version did not disappoint. I'm glad that it appears GA is working to get all the Mercy Thompson books into this format as BLOOD BOUND (#2) appears in Audible as a pre-order. I like Mercy and the others in her world though I admit I dropped off the series a few newer releases back. Not sure why, other than other books caught my attention. Anyway, I'm happy to be back in Mercy's world for a visit. Patricia has a way with words and her version of the world is both well-done and intriguing. The series has been around long enough that most UF fans have already glommed onto it. If you haven't, you should give it a try and enjoy the "movie in your mind."™ (Which is probably a registered trademark or something so all credit to Graphic Audio for the advertising slogan.)

I started it on a whim, thinking it might be fun, especially since it's by Graphic Audio.
Yes, I was right. This is exactly what you'd expect out of an urban fantasy setting: magic mixed with 21st century. The Dramatized Adaption made me think of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I realized this would be a tv series I would watch and re-watch.
The series follows Mercy Thompson, a mechanic and shifter and her life around different packs of werewolves and her select clientele of supernatural creatures. The love interest is, of course, an alpha werewolf. I am not so keen on all the male-female vocabulary, which feels outdated and a product of the late 2000's and early 2010s.
The entertainment value is still there, especially in this GraphicAudio format. I highly recommend this series in GraphicAudio format as it really does make it feel like an episode of Supernatural or Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The plot is quite simple and straight-forward, a bit of a murder mystery. There is a large cast of characters, but as each character has a different voice actor, it is incredibly easy to follow along who is who and who did what.
Mercy Thompson is a very interesting character and an equally interesting series that I have been eyeing for a while. As of volume one, I'd recommend it.

I really don't want to rate this because while I loved the story itself, I have re read it at least three times and just now going through them all with normal audio.

I could not stand this dramatized edition. The voices made me wince and the back ground noises made me cringe even harder.

I prefer the normal audio to this.

5⭐️ for the book but I am still unsure about the narration. Maybe I'm just used to Lorelei King's narration but I didn't love some of the characters voices

Moon Called is the perfect start to the Mercy Thompson series—fast-paced, thrilling, and full of heart. Mercy is a sharp, witty, and fiercely independent heroine you can’t help but root for. The mystery kept me hooked, the worldbuilding is seamless, and the mix of action, danger, and humor makes it impossible to put down.

What makes this even better is experiencing it through GraphicAudio. The voices, sound effects, and immersive production breathe new life into a story I already love. Mercy’s world feels more vivid than ever, and it’s like stepping straight into the Tri-Cities alongside her.

This is one of my all-time favorite series, and I’m beyond excited that it’s being brought to life in GraphicAudio. For fans of urban fantasy, strong heroines, and stories that stay with you long after the last page, this is a must.

Long time fan of Paricia Briggs but didn't listen to the audios as I generally don't like female narrators. However, Mercy's voice in this graphic audio quickly grew on me and so did the rest of the cast they were all *chef's kiss* perfect.

I loved hearing the story come to life and looking forward you the next one!

I love Patricia Briggs and most of her stories. She has real skill for writing fantasy in a way that isn't cheesy and overdone. I love Lorelei King's narration of the Mercy Thompson series because she does an excellent variety of voices, and she reads them without overacting. My particular favorite is her narration of Zee. When I saw that this dramatized adaption was released, though, I was really excited to hear an entire cast take on the different roles. It can be cool to see other people's take on something like this. Unfortunately, I was incredibly disappointed, as this narration is so overblown and overacted. It's like listening to a rendition of this story as a pornographic film with terrible sound effects. The serious tone of the story is completely lost, and I just couldn't get into it. I couldn't make it through the entire book; the narration was just too awful. I truly hope they keep Lorelei King as the narrator for as long as Ms. Briggs publishes this series.

Graphic Audio http://www.graphicaudio.net is re-releasing the entire Mercedes (Mercy) Thompson series featuring plucky, spunky, Mercy Thompson the shape-shifting coyote and Adam Hauptman, Alpha werewolf and leader of the local pack.

Can Mercy, Adam, and their allies ward off the humans who want to expose the Fae who live amongst us? What about those who experiment on the non-human beings? This is just the start of the series! It gets even better with each adventure.

The full-cast takes on characters ranging from ancient Germanic Fae and Slavic witches to sultry Vampires and fearless human (villains). Of course, the characters sound different in my head. Then again, these voices/ vocal actors are perfect for the series.

I typically get excited when I come across a dramatized audiobook adaptation because the added sound effects usually enhance the story and bring it to life. Unfortunately, that was not the case this time.

I found it really difficult to follow the plot. The "dramatized" elements mostly consisted of growling and other odd noises (of the wolves and beings) that, instead of enriching the experience, made it harder for me to stay engaged. By the end, I had no idea what happened in the story, and I was still unsure if I wanted to continue with the series. I might give the "regular" audiobook version a try to see if I enjoy it more.

Sometimes they just do not land, and this was one of those times for me.

Mercy is a Coyote shifter that grew up in a Wolves world!

She is really a skin walker that makes her immune to a lot paranormal things and sensitive to others.

she can see ghosts, resist the thrall of vampires and Continues to resist the dominance calls of the Alphas from wolf packs.

She believes in God and has some sort of faith back ground which i found refreshing. So many stories now days go the I don’t believe in God route.

She currently resides around Adam’s pack and he has claimed her. Samuel is an ex still pining for her cresting a bit of a love triangle.

the story was fast moving. I felt like i kept getting lost in the story and the Characters. By the end of the book i was on the fence about moving on in the series.

I just finished the dramatized adaptation of Moon Called, and while I enjoyed the experience of the GraphicAudio format, I couldn’t help but feel that it was missing a lot of content and context from the original novel. The fast pace and condensed scenes left out key details that really help build the world and deepen the characters.

As someone who appreciates the rich storytelling in the book, I feel the adaptation did a bit of a disservice to the original. It lost some of the depth and nuance that makes Moon Called so engaging. That said, it was still entertaining, just not as satisfying as reading the full story.

Basic Plot: Mercy is a skinwalker in a world of shifters, fey, and vampires that makes her life a whole lot more complicated than she would really prefer.

Mercy is a great character, very human despite her supernatural status. The werewolves and their pack dynamics are well-written, though I remain unsure about the point of giving immortality status to werewolves. Immortality just doesn't seem as cool to me as it does to other people, I guess. This is a positive start to one of my favorite series.

Listening to this in Graphic Audio was tremendous fun. I loved the voice for Zee!

I have read this book previously, but I just had to listen to the dramatized version. It's great listening to the story with all the voices, it brings a lot to an already good book. My only complaint is the voice they used for Stefan; he is supposed to be Italian, but the guy in the dramatized version is not. He also makes Stefan sound like a psychopath, he would be better suited for the voice of Wulf in the other books.

Mercy Thompson Book One

Mercy Thompson is a VW mechanic in the Tri-Cities of Washington. She also happens to turn into a coyote.

This new Graphic Audio version is a fantastic addition to the Mercy world! Hearing the voices and sounds of the events in the book brings the story to a whole new level. The only voice I didn’t love was Elizaveta. Otherwise, the characters were given a new life and I can’t wait for the next installment.

Meh. This dramatized version was actually great. I thought the sound effects and editing were great and enjoyed the full cast. But that wasn’t enough to save the story or make me care more. Mercy was kind of random and needs way more fleshing out. And the I just didn’t care that much about the story itself. There was no tension or build up. Things just sort of happened.

Idk. Probably won’t continue the series.

Great pacing, interesting (and quite wonderfully convoluted at times) plot and intriguing characters. Every type of paranormal, mystical, mythological characters somehow become involved in Mercy's world. Simply Excellent

GraphicAudio production of "Moon Called." Wonderful all the way through.

This got 5 stars because I love the book and the series. While I enjoyed this adaptation, I am not a huge fan of dramatized audio books. I like the various actors, but I do not like the sound affects or the music.

I am not normally an audio book fan, but Graphic Audio dramatised adaptations are the exception. Especially when they bring my favourite series to life in so I can enjoy them in a whole new way. Not everyone was exactly as I imagined them, but Mercy was good and Adam was spot on.
