Actions speak louder than words and understanding goes a long way…….
This was a marriage of convenience for Nancy and Richard. She agreed to save her family from financial ruin after her father died, and he did it because he had unexpectedly become the Duke after the death of his older brother. Neither went into the marriage wanting to be with one another, but she decided to try as she got to know him better. He never thought he was good enough so he didn’t try. I actually really liked Richard and felt a lot of sympathy for him after reading the prologue and hearing more of his past. He was portrayed as grumpy, but he seemed to give her anything she wanted from the very beginning. Nancy’s character was too naive, and sometimes she seemed really forgiving of others she seemed judgmental when thinking of her betrothed. I wasn’t impressed with some of her decisions either when they encountered hard times. I felt like he showed his love through other ways like his actions and compromises, but her words were sweeter so it made it appear that she was the saint in their relationship. She was constantly suggesting that he forgive after all his hurt, but she was hesitant to give him that same grace right away. It took a bit of persuasion from others. However, they did get their HEA after outside forces tried to take away their happiness.
Though Richard had a somewhat Troublesome past I did appreciate how hard he tried to be responsible & do the right thing & even though he wasn't treated well as a child, he tried to be kind to others & not hurt them & I appreciated how Nancy wanted to help Richard & looked for the positive things in him & was really a good daughter & sister & genuinely wanting to help those around her. I also thought Mrs Silverstone was a great help to them & a nice person. It was slow, then great, then terrible & then really nice, it was a bit exasperating but there were some really great parts & sweet moments. It was a cute story!
The beginning of this story was so sad! Richard becomes Duke when his. brother dies, but all his life his father has told him he is useless, and will never be any use to society. So he tries to be as big a rake s he can, but now Duke, his brother left a letter, he need a wife, Nancy. She has lost her beloved father, and vile cousin who inherited the title, gives them three months to leave their home! She needs to marry, but Richard not what she wanted but must wed! A journey of misunderstanding and no trust. But enjoyed the book.
Nancy was tasked to marry Richard so that her family would be saved from dealing with their cousin, who had inherited the title from Nancy's father. Luckily as Nancy and Richard spent time together they grew closer into a more positive and loving relationship. Even though there was a plot afoot to husband part theming did not work as they were meant to be together forever.
Having to marry a duke to save he family from ruin following her fathers death without even meeting him first .A cold loveless marriage in name only ….. Trust and honour soon becomes an issue thus changing the dynamics . An enjoyable read with some interesting characters with some spicy scenes .
Loved the story and the characters. Kept you interested and didn’t drag on and on. Brought to light about abuse and how it can carryover into one’s future. The Duke is very fortunate to find the right person to show him love can overcome a black past. Read this story for that great feeling at the end
What a lovely story of heartache, greed and love. Richard and Nancy are two delightful characters. Both mourning family losses they are destined to marry for family obligations. Strong willed and passionate they find their marriage on shaky ground. Will they be able to shake off the tales of Richards rakish past and move forward? A fast read and enjoyable story,
A family losing a father/ husband and sacrificing a daughter to save their family is the theme here. With family duty, sacrifice and devotion all parts of our heroine’s character gives her never ending worry and heartache. This makes for and interesting and good read.
I continue to love Harriet Caves stories and this book was no exception. Wonderful story line, great amount of steam and the love story is to die for! If only our real lives could be this way!
What a story. I loved this book. So many things happened in the early days of their marriage, but then everything turned out wonderfully. I throughly enjoyed this book. Thank you fr writing it.
It certainly was a romance with a wedding to begin the story. For a few chapters I didn't think Richard would turn into a decent, loving husband. It took a special woman to help him become the man of her dreams.
I really liked this book! It had wonderful characters, with quite the bad guy. The plot was well thought out and easy to follow. The characters were believable and well developed. There were no graphic scenes, making it cleanly written. Again, I couldn’t put it down.
An arranged marriage/& at last company seemingly delighted to be Seen at the ball. But then untrue rumors abound -that lead to the breakup of a most beloved couple. And endless love…
Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Lovely cast of character s that charmed you .. Lovely HEA....love the author so knew it would be a curl up in chair enjoyment.
This story just goes to show that everyone wants to be loved and appreciated and to know that they do matter. Some steam in this story so beware. Enjoyed the extended epilogue.
