Nowhere is safe for a fae alone…
For all his many days, Allarion has been faithful to queen and country. In their sparkling city on the sea, the fae live long lives of pleasure and luxury. But pretty things can be rotten at their core, and not all is as it seems. A betrayal at the heart of the fae court shatters Allarion’s belief in all that he once held sacred.
Now in hiding, he must make his own sanctuary in the human kingdom of Eirea. The dilapidated estate of Scarborough has been waiting for a chance, and he intends to breathe new life into the land. All he needs is the final anchor to his magic, the one thing that binds a fae to the earth more thoroughly than any spell or power. A mate. Obtaining the woman he wants will be easy. Keeping her is another matter.

There is no denying a fae when he comes to your door…
All her life, barmaid Molly hasn’t had time for dreams or fancies or romance. From caring for her cousins to serving the patrons of her uncle’s tavern, life has always been about earning her keep. That at least kept her safe. Or so she thought. She never imagined her uncle might sell her off to the mysterious patron who’s haunted the tavern and Molly’s dreams for months.
Molly wants a family—not a kidnapping fae with no sense of humor, his terrifying, grumpy unicorn, and a sentient but malfunctioning house. But then, life has never been about what Molly wants—at least until her fae captor insists that’s all he cares about…

A fae in search of his queen, a woman hoping for a home—together they could build everything they dreamed; if human and fae alike don’t tear them apart first.

My Thoughts:

This was a great addition to the Monstrous World series!

I really enjoyed both Molly and Allarion as characters. They share some key qualities, particularly their deep devotion to the people they love. Both are willing to risk everything for those they care about, often putting others' needs ahead of their own. For Molly, this book is a journey of self-discovery. She’s spent so much of her life living for others that she never really discovered who she was on her own. Allarion, in his own way, gives her the space and support to explore this, allowing her to begin reclaiming her sense of self. 🫶

Allarion's attempts at wooing Molly were honestly hilarious, especially since he's so clueless about humans. Despite his good intentions, everything he did seemed to go wrong, and he fumbled his way through their interactions. For a while, Molly holds his missteps against him, which made sense to some extent, but I have to admit, her vindictiveness toward him in the beginning did rub me the wrong way. She made a promise to herself to "take this man for everything he was worth. Whatever he loved, she would find and take." This didn't seem to align with her character. She is a barmaid and has years of experience reading people, so she is able to see things from others' perspective and discover their intentions and truths. But instead of doing that with Allarion, she just gets mad, locks herself in her room, refuses to speak to him, and plans to get even. It seemed childish and a bit of a contrived reaction to her situation in order to create tension and drama between the MCs.

What I loved most, though, was how Allarion never gave up on winning her over. His persistence, despite all his mistakes, is really endearing. Over time, Molly softens, and they evolve into such a sweet couple. Their bond becomes evident in the little things, like singing duets at the piano and cooking together in the kitchen. It’s these quiet moments that really show how sincere their connection was. 🫶

There was a lot of spice in this book and it was very fulfilling. I mean, he has a pierced peen and can use his magic to weird a phantom dick. There's biting, somnophilia, tiddy f*cking, mutual masturbation, and watching in a mirror. The chemistry between Molly and Allarion is undeniable, which made these scenes extremely enjoyable to read.

The sentient house was such a fun addition to the story! Even though it didn’t speak, it somehow became a lovable side character in its own right. I love how it was always offering comfort to Molly, especially in the beginning when she felt alone and afraid.

And then there's Bellarand, the grumpy unicorn, with his hilarious vendetta against the squirrels. 😂 His interactions with Molly were so entertaining, especially the way they bickered back and forth. And while their arguments started off genuine, as they gained respect for each other, it gradually became a way for them to express affection and care.

I really enjoyed that the MMC was fae, so it gave us a fascinating deeper dive into the fae world and their complex politics. The way the book explored their culture, their rules, and the tension that comes with being part of such an ancient, powerful race added a lot of richness to the story. The stakes were relatively high, especially at the end, which I enjoyed. And even though the romance wrapped up nicely, there's a bit of a storyline cliffhanger that will lead into the next book and focus on another couple. So I'm excited to read the next book.

Aside from Molly’s initial reaction to her marriage to Allarion, my only other "complaints" about the story are the pacing and length. At times, it felt a bit drawn out, with sections that seemed overly detailed or repetitive. There were moments where the story could have been more concise, and I found myself skimming through some parts that didn’t feel essential to the plot.

I’m in love with Allarion and his devotion and gentle heart. Molly was an awesome heroine with a temper but generally kind and giving demeanor. Their beginning was less than auspicious, but hey, what’s a little spice? Their culture clash was interesting, with him coming from a matriarchal society and her from a patriarchal one. I’m glad she got some justice and independence and he got his well deserved peace. Also, loved the sentient house and the grumpy and kinda mean unicorn.
I neeeedddddd Balar to have a book!

Spice: 3.5/5

Triggers: parent death (off page), violence and gore, murder, battle, mentions of attempted SA and groping (not by MC), abuse, brief mention of attempted SA by family member, discussion of past starvation and severe illness, sentient animal death, parental neglect, discussion of past war, assumed enslavement, forcible marriage, sexism (not by MC)

We get it, she has large breasts. We don't need to be reminded of it every 5 pages....

I tried. But Allarion was not as brooding as I'd hoped, actually he was more like a misunderstood puppy.
The dark unicorn was the one thing I did enjoy.

Gave up because I can't anymore with another female main character that riots at the idea of giving up her awful, poor, overworked life to be with a rich, handsome, respectful man that treats her like a queen, because of prideful stubbornness.

The beginning of this book is so slow, I almost dropped my kindle twice because I was nodding off. Allarian and the unicorns' introductions were interesting, however Molly was absolutely dull. I just didn't find her interesting. Every time the story shifted to her view I started skimming.

It's such a shame that Allarian ended up with someone who wanted to call him "Larry" who does that....? It's like going to Nobu and trying to order chicken nuggets. My perception of Molly was already low, struggling on trying to read just made me sad for Allarian, he got the short end of the stick with this mate bond.

"My sweet mate, the sun rises later and later for jealousy of seeing your beauty."

Book 3 in the Monstrous World series brings us a different love story than the previous two - with no big adventure through the wilderness or impeding war brewing - but there's still a lot to enjoy! Add in a sentient house and the grumpiest, most sarcastic unicorn and it's a fun time. Bellarand ended up being the real MVP of the book for me. I was laughing anytime he had something to say because it was always something sassy. Unless he was plotting his revenge on the squirrels.

I loved that Molly finally got her freedom in the end. Even if it wasn't exactly how she imagined it. She had a difficult childhood and early adulthood but I was cheering her on as she described how she learned to use her looks to take advantage of men in the tavern. My female rage was very happy to know she got some satisfaction from it - and all the coin, of course! It broke my heart when she mentioned that she didn't believe romantic love stories were for her. She sure got one, though!

Allarion...that poor naive Fae male. He was so clueless when it came to humans. Especially human females. He tried his hardest to do what he thought was right according to human customs but it didn't turn out the way he expected. There were a lot of misunderstandings between him and Molly but once they got past most of their cultural differences and became more comfortable with each other their love really blossomed.

And that ending! Again I feel like we're left with more questions than answers about this world. I can't wait to see what happens in the next one.

I was so fucking bored and you have no idea how much I was looking forward to Allarion and his red eyed unicorn.

I made it to about 70%, I think?

Not even the mystery of the half fae girl could keep me reading; I wanted to know why she was so important but couldn't make it there. Allarion was very sweet, almost too understanding and let Molly treat him like he'd committed a crime. Molly would freak out when Allarion did something that wasn't normal by her standard of living and instead of explaining to him or asking him what the deal was, she was determined to think the worst of him. Did they get off on the best foot? No, but she didn't try to help the situation.

I loved the first book in this series, and liked the second book but this one was a DNF for me.

Tropes: Cinnamon roll hero, fated mates, found family, magical house, slow burn, touch her and you die, grumpy unicorn sidekick, miscommunication, small-town fantasy vibes

Okay, listen. I just finished and I’m still grinning like a fool. I gave it five stars and I already need the next book like yesterday.

💘 Allarion & Molly The Softest Fae + The Strongest Girl

Allarion? BABY. That man is pure golden retriever wrapped in ancient Fae mystery. He doesn’t even need food or drink, but he keeps showing up at Molly’s tavern ordering drinks just so she can earn a little coin. I mean, sir. That’s love language right there.

And Molly? She’s been through it. Working for her trash uncle who spends all his money on himself while she tries to feed herself and her cousins? She deserves the moon. She’s cautious, smart, and a little emotionally bruised, but watching her fall for Allarion slowly, sweetly, with all that fated-mate tension? Chef’s kiss. I was kicking my feet.

🦄 Bellerand The Unicorn Who Needs His Own Spin-Off

Now let’s talk about Bellerand. This unicorn is in a full-on feud with the squirrels in the forest and I am not exaggerating when I say he stole every scene. He’s salty, dramatic, and low-key jealous of Molly because it’s been just him and Allarion for ages. He’s basically the grumpy best friend who throws shade but would fight a dragon for you(Maybe fight next to a dragon 👀,). I want him in every book forever.

🏡 The House — Encanto Meets Cottagecore Chaos

And THE HOUSE. It’s sentient. It has moods. It’s giving Encanto meets cozy fantasy and I was obsessed. Molly doesn’t trust it at first (girl, same), but the way she slowly bonds with it? It’s like watching someone fall in love with a home that loves them back. Literal magic.

---

This book had me laughing, swooning, and whispering “oh noooo” during the miscommunication scenes. It’s romantic, hilarious, and full of heart. If you love cinnamon roll heroes who would burn the world down for their girl, magical settings with personality, and unicorns who throw shade like it’s their job then this is probably the book for you!

Now someone please tell me when book four drops because I’m not okay.

Allarion is THE fae - and I love that Molly gets to enjoy all of him, she's so lovely. And that damn house - not to speak of Bellarand, I just LOVE everything.

*yawn*

What exactly was the plot? The twist? The point?

Nothing happens until about 80% in, then a little something occurs (which gets resolved in a matter of two pages) and voilà, The End, with a little cliffhanger that does not even make you anxious or want to know what happens next. What a waste of time.

𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲:
Sweetling is the third instalment in the Monstrous World series by author S.E. Wendel. Wendel never fails to amaze me as her writing style continues to envelop me into a continued sense of comfort and safety. The familiarity to be found within the writing of an author that you continue to read is a feeling that I strive to attain no matter what style of events are occurring on-page. To recognise an author's writing before ever thinking to check the front page is a sense of comfort that I have greatly come to value as it signifies how much I truly adore and anticipate their future works. This book thrives for me as a reader as it continues to showcase Wendel's compelling narrative voice that drives the storyline from beginning to end in an immersive atmosphere that leaves you unwilling to put the book down. The extensive yet easy to understand worldbuilding provides the perfect opportunity to create beautiful and extensive imagery within my mind, and the pacing itself felt slower for me which is in no way a complaint as it provides the reader with ample time to visualise the story as it progresses. I thoroughly enjoyed the time we are allocated to get to know our main characters and witness their gradual development towards love. I adore how individual character exploration is used as a tool to better strengthen the progression of the love story being foretold, and overall this book was a wonderful addition to the Monstrous World series that I highly recommend. With its unique cast of characters and endearing relationships built on trust and respect... this is not a story to be missed for fans of the Monster Romance genre. Sweetling is able to be read as a standalone however I highly recommend reading the series in publication order to better understand background events and the cameos from past characters.

𝐏𝐥𝐨𝐭:
The plot within Sweeling begins with a devastating prologue filled with grief and despair as Allarion finds himself trying to leave the home he has always known and forsaking his loyalty to the Fae that has reigned as Queen for centuries in order to honour the promise he made to a dear friend. He soon learns of a human kingdom called the Darrowlands that has slowly become known for welcoming more non-human residents into its borders, and Allarion knows that this is an opportunity too great to miss. As a male who has accumulated mass wealth over the duration of his very long life, Allarion has very little trouble securing the deed to the lands of Scarborough where he and his unicorn dreadmount decide to settle and call home. For reasons I'll leave unknown to avoid major spoilers... time is not on Allarion's side as he desperately needs his magic to bond with the new lands to weaken the hold that the Fae Lands hold over him before he can continue to honour the promise that he made. Something that can help speed up the process is by finding the one being in the entire world that sings to his very blood, magic and soul; his azai. His mate. When he unintentionally stumbles upon a human woman at the local well who works as a barmaid, Allarion knows that this woman is meant to be his and will do whatever it takes to claim her. Even if that means relying on his outdated knowledge of human customs and how they secure themselves a bride... and accidentally (for a very brief time) kidnapping her. Can Allarion and Molly overcome their differences and find happiness in the unlikeliest of homes? Or will the past catch up with the present as unforeseen forces seek to separate them?

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬:
Molly is a young woman who is finally ready to take control of her own life and stop living on the behalf of the comfort of others. Having faced many hardships throughout her twenty-something years of life... independence is something that Molly has come to value and crave as she desperately wishes to discover her next path without being forced to rely on the support of others in order to survive. After sacrificing many years of her life being the primary caretaker for her younger cousins due to their neglectful and demanding father, it was completely understandable why Molly was eager to finally live her life for herself without shame or fear. I absolutely adored her character and the inner strengths that she knew she possessed. It breaks my heart to know that those inner strengths are as a result of her much-needed survival instincts that Molly was forced to hone from a very young age. Her backstory absolutely broke my heart, and the reasoning behind why she keeps her hair cut short even more so. When we are introduced to her character, Molly is not a woman to be considered as soft nor meek. She is headstrong, intelligent and knows how to predict the behaviour of others before they ever know it themselves which was a skill she was required to learn as a barmaid. Her ability to care for others and have compassion regardless to whether they are deserving or not is admirable, and I just adored how her inner strengths would manifest during emotional and tumultuous times. Molly's biggest flaw is her initial struggles with feeling vulnerable and opening herself up to the support of others. This is unavoidable after learning about her tragic backstory, however I was overjoyed to witness Molly's character growth as she learned to feel more accepting of the love and support being offered from others. Her hot-headedness and quick-temperament made her a fierce advisory for any who dared oppose her, and honestly I just spent the majority of this book cheering on Molly's behalf. Molly's complexities make her an interesting character to follow, and I enjoyed most of all getting to witness her character find a balance. How she can maintain all of her strengths whilst softening with the comforts to be found in a space to call home and a man who desperately wishes to love and dote on her. That she can be headstrong and feel angry... and still be deserving of softness and love in return. That despite not coming from a high class family and a wealthy background she is deserving of the love and attentions from a male who is. Molly was a phenomenal character who has quickly became one of my favourites of the series and I'm very excited to hopefully see what comes next for her character in future book cameos.

Allarion is Fae male who has been raised to value honour above all else and holds himself to the upmost highest standards. After disagreeing with the decisions of the long-reigning Fae Queen, Allarion sets out to leave the lands he has known in order to search for a new place to settle in the hopes of finally finding a mate to love and cherish. Whilst his intentions are nothing but good and pure... a misunderstanding and moment of deceit finds Allarion with a spitfire female by his side who is desperate to make his life as difficult as possible. As soon as that moment happened (iykyk) I immediately slapped my hands over my eyes and cringed with an audible "Oh honey... no." It's safe to say that his character makes a few mistakes during Sweetling but I enjoyed how he embraced them. It's difficult to pin down Allarion as one singular thing because my instinct is to say that he's a golden retriever character... however he also embraces his viciousness and determination to go after what he wants by any means necessary. I found it hilarious that Allarion has a reputation for being a fierce and unyielding Fae warrior and yet the version that we largely see is one of a renovation husband to their magical, sentient house. It was refreshing to see a male main character who was content to exist in the quiet and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Allarion exudes a calmness that reflected well in his environment and contributed greatly to his budding relationship with his azai. His openness to love and keenness to dote on his partner made him a wonderful love interest, and his companionship with his unicorn dreadmount was hilarious yet endearing. We get to see Allarion form unlikely friendships and bonds during the book which I think will be utilised in the next book, and I'm very excited to witness his reunion with a certain character.

𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭:
Allarion and Molly were met with a tumultuous beginning due to unintentional miscommunication fuelled by an unforeseen deceit. It was never Allarion's intent to purchase his bride and we are met with his apparent horror when Molly finally decides to confront him. The establishment of their relationship shows a keen Allarion who desperately wishes for his mate to accept him, and an angry Molly who feels cheapened... and that her long-awaited freedom has been stolen from her grasp. Once the pair finally discussed what had caused the rift between them I was excited to see the blossoming of their relationship built on tentative hope and building trust. I was thrilled to see that communication and honesty became something that both Molly and Allarion valued as this created an open and welcoming space within their relationship. Both characters undergo notable moments of self-reflection which showed maturity and a willingness to address their flaws and vulnerabilities. My favourite aspect to Molly and Allarion's relationship was their ability to exist joyfully within the quiet. Sweetling is unlike the first two books in the series as there is noticeably less action and adventure to be found on the character's journey. Much of the story takes place on a quiet plot of land as Molly, Allarion and Bellarand learn how to co-exist in a gentle and domestic setting. I really enjoyed this change of tone as it better enabled me to get to know our two main characters at a steadier pace outside of an action-packed plot. Despite being complete opposites both characters complimented each other beautifully as they worked as a balance that was unique to them. Both Molly and Allarion were unafraid to fight for the life that they wanted and the love that they deserved, and there was no greater reward that seeing them gain a champion in the other. Their relationship was the most different from the series that I have come to expect thus far, however I adore Allarion and Molly with my entire being. I'm so thrilled that they have (mostly) found their happy ending with some plot points still left to be tied up in the next book.

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:
Sweetling was yet another wonderful and strong addition to the Monstrous World series that I will continue to love and cherish long after the series is over. It was so much fun getting to explore a new side of 'otherlings' by following a Fae Hero after focusing on half-orcs in the first two instalments, and I cannot wait to learn more about the Fae in the next book in the series. The epilogue left me shocked with a feeling of being incomplete which makes sense once you read it. It's no surprise that I'm feeling selfishly impatient for the release of book four, Faeling, which is sadly not due for release until late-2025. There is definitely a lot of unanswered questions in need of being addressed with answers, however I'm very excited to continue to explore this expansive world and all of its otherly inhabitants in future books in the series. I have confidence that it'll be worth the wait, and I'm very excited to learn who Ravenna's love interest will be after much intrigue and theorising that I've been bothering the author with. This series is criminally underrated and I could not recommend it any more, and it's the perfect option for those looking for a gentle introduction into the world of Monster Romance.

✨Sweetling✨

Author: SE Wendel
Release: out now!
Series: A Monstrous World novel, book 3 in the interconnected standalones

I always love coming back to a SE Wendel novel! These books are just so cozy and precious and always heal my heart after a round of dark, difficult, or sad books. In this third book, we finally get to follow the enigmatic fae who has been lurking around Dunduran. After all his assistance and intriguing moments in books 1&2, we finally get his story!

After centuries of serving an evil queen and the death of his friends, Allarion escapes the fae kingdom. He leaves behind a goddaughter in hopes of finding her a safe home in the human lands. As he acclimates to his new land and sentient home, Allarion realizes he needs a mate, and who better than the soul mate he hears at the well?

Molly has been through the wringer in life. Serving at her abusive uncle’s Tavern, she dreams of an escape. That is, until her uncle sells her to the quiet fae who visits frequently but never drinks or eats.

We get to follow a dual POV between Allarion and Molly as they navigate an unconventional arranged marriage, different temperaments, a grumpy unicorn, a traumatic past, and a kingdom Allarion thought he was free of.

This story was cozy and fun and I absolutely adored our MCs. We get glimpses of previous MCs alongside a delightfully sentient home and a unicorn war against the squirrels. Allarion’s devotion and patience is one for the books. He is humble, honorable, and so very kind. Watching him ease the rough edges of Molly was beautiful- their joining one that was so sweet.

Tropes you may find in Sweetling are forced proximity, arranged marriage, fae lord x bartender, grumpy unicorn, mind speak, mate bonds, slow burn to medium-high spice, banter, found family, earth magic, sentient house, cozy with low stakes, and a HEA that also leads into the next book!

Available now, come join me on a Wendel Adventure!

I was really disappointed. The story/plot were promising, but it wasn't nearly as good as the first two books. I think it really lacked good timing especially on the important romance scenes that have moved the story forward. Their first time being deliberately kissing and wanting it was so random and out of the blue. I think it did a good job building suspense for the next book and the book itself wasn't bad, but not nearly as good as I expected.

Ever since I read Halfling, Book 1 in S.E. Wendel's Monstrous World series of interconnected standalones, I have fallen in love with the beautiful storytelling, writing style, and pure emotion oozing from the pages. Halfling, Ironling, and, now, Sweetling are the most perfect cosy monster romances you will ever read. There are no words to express just how much I love these books and how honoured I am to be a Knight of the Wendel table.

After two stories featuring half-orcs, we are now gifted a tale of a lone Fae warrior, his grumpy yet utterly loyal unicorn companion, and a bartender with a heart of gold. I knew we would be getting Allarion's story next, and I am so happy we got to learn more about him and his past. Allarion was always the intriguing side character, someone not that outspoken yet always ready to aid those in need. His gentle and kind nature just shone through in Sweetling. I loved his character; I loved seeing him finally accepting he was worthy of love and devotion and him fighting to get it.

"Nothing would please me more than giving you everything you deserve, azai".

And he truly did everything for Molly. Molly's character was lovely; my heart was full seeing her feel free for the first time, free to make her own choices, carve her path, and finally learn and discover who she really is, apart from being a bartender and a caretaker. Allarion gave her the space she needed to grow and heal, and she also healed him in return. They were precious together, especially with so many cultural differences between them. But they both learned and grew together, making them a couple one could inspire to be.

"You are safe here, sweetling. Always." "I know", she whispered, her words arrowing through him.

Sweetling, a heartwarming tale of love, tenderness, and mutual healing, is set to release on November 30th. It will warm your heart on even the coldest and gloomiest of days. With the addition of a sarcastic yet entertaining unicorn, it will take you on an unforgettable journey. Don't miss the chance to immerse yourself in the story of Molly & Allarion.

It’s been a helluva few weeks keeping me from devouring this book… but I’m so glad I finally got to! I love the world Sarah has created for us. She set this up well in Ironling, leaving me craving Allarion’s story.

It started off REAL intense and made me feel so much for him and Bellarand, his glorious unicorn Mount, right off the bat. I truly don’t want to give much away because watching Molly, Allarion, and Bellarand grow together was so special. I need more!!

I can’t talk Molly up enough for the strong woman and person that she is. The things she’s endured and the care she still has for others, especially her cousins, is incredibly touching.

“To everyone who's grieved for the idea and hope of a future that will never be.”

“Sometimes the hardest thing to endure about brutality was the acknowledgement of it.”

“I have loved you since I first saw you. I may not have known it, but I knew it. Holding you in my heart has been my greatest joy.”

**Thank you to the Author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review; all opinions are my own.**

Sweetling starts off slightly before book 2, and then picks up right at the end of book 2 with Allarion calling in his favor. This one has a secret plot point that I think is leading into something much bigger for the Monstrous World universe, especially with how quick things pick up at the end!

Like most S.E. Wendel books, the spice is SPICING. Allarion and Molly were the perfect pair and getting to see them fall deeper in love and act as partners made me giddy. Also! Bellarand the Black- I love him. His sass made me giggle everytime, and I adored getting to see him and Molly become friends!

If you like:
☆ fated mates
☆ complicated family relationships
☆ magic & secrets
☆ sentient houses
Then this is the book for you!!

”I didn’t want a lady or a noblewoman or any other barmaid.” The corners of his mouth lifted, as if he tried for humor, but quickly fell. “I wanted you, Molly. Since the moment I saw you. Your liveliness, your vitality—it filled up the room, and I was in awe. I knew within a moment why the goddesses led me to you.”

Rating: 4.5/5
Spice: 3/5
POV: Dual 3rd

Sarah always hits hard with the prologues in this series 😭 3/3 they have made me cry. Is there a title planned named WEAKLING? I could cameo in it for sure 😆

Now lord of the Scarborough estate after managing to flee the faelands, Allarion Meringor is looking for a bride. One particular bride, in fact: Molly Dunne, the barmaid that captivated him at a well.

Meaning to respect the humans’ customs, he went to speak to her uncle to ask for her hand. His first unintentional mistake when that decision got him the bride he wanted, but much less willing than he expected.

I honestly was so frustrated with Molly after the hand fasting. I wanted to jump in there and shake her so she could just tell him the truth— her version of it— instead of locking herself in her room at the estate. Our poor fae was clueless.

The development in their relationship, after the air has been cleared, was wonderful. I need me a gentleman like Allarion. We saw more of some side characters and I am ready to marry Balar. I LOVED how the otherly folks rallied together to help Allarion when his past caught up with him. The sentient house was absolutely adorable and Bellarand? He stole the show 😂

I am so excited for FAELING!!

I’m rounding up to 3 stars bc i’m nice.

It started out with potential but by halfway i remembered why i couldn’t get thru the first book of this series. It just gets dull, tbh.

And the sex scenes 🥱 they sure had a lot of descriptive language that somehow barely described anything…

The world is interesting but it took so much effort to finish this book so I may have to stop here.

Allarion, never stop simping, you beautiful purple man, you.

This was a cute, cozy read. Maybe a little slow but I needed something that was low energy, low brain cells, after reading Onyx Storm lol

If you haven’t read any paranormal/monster romances, I highly recommend reading her Monstrous World series. This is book 3, and I may have squealed when she reached out with an advanced copy 👀

Sweetling centres around Molly (human FMC), Allarion (fae MMC), and his dread-mount/unicorn companion Bellarand.

I’ve been off work this week, recovering from my surgery & this book has become my entire personality. I just didn’t want it to end, I wanted to live in its cosy little bubble. A friendly sentient house - surrounded by cute woodland creatures, a tall beautiful fae man - ready to give you whatever your heart desires, a grumpy unicorn that honestly just wants to eat carrots and take down pesky squirrels??? Sign me up 🙂‍↕️👌

The romance between Molly & Allarion was just so sweet. They’re unsure, out of their depth, and Molly finds herself in somewhat of a beauty and the beast style situation. She’s the epitome of older sister vibes, and completely over being pushed around by men. Allarion, absolutely enamoured by Molly - has his heart in the right place, but is low key clueless about human women.

Sweetling is filled with cute & tentatively soft moments - S.E. Wendel truly is a queen of deliciously slow burning romance, to toe curling spice 🙂‍↕️👌

I loved this book so much!! The sentient house was giving me Casa Madrigal (Encanto) vibes, in the best wayyyy. I adore that Allarion was just out there making his dreams happen, mr fae handyman getting the job done 🛠️

The author really transports you into these magically lush lands, and paired with the artwork - you just get such a vivid visual of the character and surroundings. Don’t get me wrong, this book isn’t all cosy loved up vibes. There’s very real looming threats, stressful situations and a plethora of trust issues to navigate.

I’m so beyond excited to see what comes next in this series 👀💜

Before Reading:
I am so excited to learn more about Allerion. He was such an interesting addition and we haven't had any good background about the Fae people. Also, the unicorn seems badass

During:
Woah that's an intense prologue.

Okay I am about halfway through as I write this little blurb. Molly and Allerion's cultural miscommunications are so frustrating but its great. Great tension.
Allerion: "No I did not buy you; I gave your uncle the money so you would be free from your indenture, so I can marry you!"
Molly: "Girl he told me you paid a bride price, also you giving him money and then taking me is literally buying me"
Allerion: *Panic* "You can leave I promise"
Molly: "Nah I don't want to leave"
Love it. Also, Twilight Sparkle being mean to Allerion wanting his mate kind of a red flag for him. I had higher hopes that Twilight Sparkle and Molly would be besties sooner but turns out monster house is her ally.

I have gotten further now as I write this blurb:
I hate her uncle. How ICKY. I never liked him. He is horrible. Also the king is so annoying. BRO

Okay I am almost done when I write this:
What the hell is with the triad? all that action felt so abrupt! Also, I love the idea that finding his human mate and drinking her blood basically made him live again. Like he needed his human to not spoil inside with the toxicity of pure magic. But yes all that action just felt so fast and out of the blue? Maybe that was the point?

Also, the manticores are so confusing. Are they humanoid? I only know about the ones who are quadrupedal with the body of a lion for the most part, do these ones have a human body with certain lion features and the other manticore features? Like how a minotaur has human and bull aspects? No clue.

For the Ending:
I loved it all in all, I am excited for the next one! Getting ready to take town another Fae Queen like Amarantha and Maeve!

HEAR. ME. OUT.

Allarion has been faithful to this evil queen and country. The fae live long luxury lives. But pretty things can be rotten underneath all the beauty, and not all is as it seems. He has to find his own sanctuary in the human kingdom of Eirea. Where of course, he meets our beautiful Molly that is thick and full of herself, which I did not appreciate because she held on to that for a while. Don't get me wrong, you can be thick and beautiful, but she was a bit much with her attitude. I enjoyed more towards the end of this book maybe like the last 40%. A lot of the beginning stuff and some of the middle of this book I just felt like was filler. They were getting to know each other. It took a while for me to fully like them together. It was more of a slowburn which I'm not a huge fan of. There was a little bit of spice in this book.

S.E. Wendel writes the most swoony and blush worthy books and Sweetling is no exception. I was so happy to return to Dunduran again and dive into Allarion’s story. After meeting him in the last book, I knew the wait would be worth it. Allarion is such a gentleman and is so devoted to his Molly, his dread mount, and his home. Molly came from a rough place, but she was strong and kind. Once she got past the miscommunication, she really opened up to her new life. I absolutely love Bellarand and his grumpy attitude 😂 I would want to try and be his friend even if he hated me hehe
I think the best part of this series is how we get more pieces of the overall puzzle. I’m so excited for how this series will continue to progress!

My least favorite in the series so far, but still a quality Fantasy Romance. And the purple cover, gag me with a spoon, it’s gorgeous!!!!

Ultimately, I don’t think Fae MMC’s are for me. I much prefer the orcs, lol! The flowery compliments that Allarion was constantly throwing out were a little too much for me and genital piercings kinda give me the ick. I also didn’t really get their connection for most of the story?? I wish there had been more interactions between them? Idk??

I really liked Molly as our strong yet vulnerable heroine, the house was a gothic dream, and Bellarand the Unicorn Dread Mount was full of grumpy banter which was fun! I just didn’t swoon for this one and I know this author can make me swoon. I also really enjoy when this author writes action scenes, which surprisingly few writers can do well. The action is clear and suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat. I would love to see the author lean into this strength even more! Looking forward to the next one in the series, especially since it sounds like we’re getting another Orc MMC! And a Chieftain no less!!! 😊

Still spicy and the writing here has improved!! Compared to the previous book, there are lesser mentions of the male love interest's penis color fkfmfm

(Not gonna lie ...I though I'd be put off for Taro because Allarion's a fae with purple grey skin. Thank the Lorde the author practiced restraint)

Trigger warning though for the abusive relative dkdkfk there's a lot like him in real life! Good thing this has a happy ending.
