Rate this book
Ten years ago, in the small northern B.C. town of Isinbury, Jane Beckett’s best friend went missing and was never found. Months later, her father died mysteriously on a solo camping trip in the Rocky Mountains.

Now a 29-year-old witty, disabled and brave homicide detective, Jane returns to her hometown that she’s avoided for over a decade to solve a series of murders. But being back home brings up dark memories for Jane and questions she’s been too afraid to ask until now. She’s forced to defy her feelings of paranoia, low self-esteem and doubt while trying to solve a murder case, come to terms with being newly disabled and finally confront her past mistakes…which might involve murdering her teenage best friend.

The killer is watching her carefully. They have been watching her for years. And the motive behind these killings is closely connected to Jane…she just doesn’t know it yet.

I was given this book for my birthday and love that it was signed by the author. Mysteries are one of my favourite genres and I especially love enjoying books written by Canadian authors set in Canada.
This is certainly a suspenseful book - I was thrilled to have a 'non-put-downable' book to read on my holiday! While I cannot say that I loved Jane, the main character, I was rooting for her for sure. I found some of the writing a tad repetitive but overall I was caught up in the story and I had no idea 'who dun it' - it was suspenseful right to the end and I did like the fact that the author provided an 'epilogue' of sorts... I liked this rather than leaving us hanging as to how everyone's lives ended up. I hope Myriah writes more mysteries... I will certainly read more from her.

Ready for a spine-chilling mystery? 🌲🔪 Ten years ago, Jane Beckett’s life in the quiet town of Isinbury was shattered when her best friend vanished without a trace, and her father died under eerie circumstances. Now, at 29, Jane returns home as a witty, disabled homicide detective, determined to solve a string of murders that haunt her town.

Jane’s journey is a gripping mix of bravery and vulnerability as she battles dark memories, paranoia, and self-doubt. 🕵️‍♀️🌑 Her return forces her to face past mistakes and the chilling possibility that she might have been involved in her friend’s disappearance. The suspense builds as Jane uncovers clues that hit close to home, and she realizes the killer has been watching her for years. 😱

Myriah Saulnier masterfully weaves a tale of tension and emotion, keeping you on the edge of your seat. If you’re a fan of thrillers with deep psychological twists and a strong, relatable heroine, this book is a must-read. 🌟 Don’t miss out on Killer in the Mirror—a story that will have you questioning everything until the very end! 📖

What an amazing first novel from Myriah Saulnier! I'm a huge fan of thriller and mystery novels and this one did not disappoint. So many twists and turns and I found myself getting sucked in again and again to the world the author created. I loved the small town setting, and as someone who has lived in British Columbia for 6 years, I loved all the BC and Canadian references. The author is great at fleshing out all the small town characters to make them feel real and complex, so much so that I everyone was a suspect! I can't wait to see what she writes next.

Like every thriller novel I’ve ever read, I had to suspend my disbelief a few times but UNLIKE a lot of other thriller novels I’ve read, attempting to suspend my disbelief never took me out of the story. I loved the small town setting and all of the characters. Even when there started to be too many characters, I never lost track of who was who, which is a problem I often face. I stayed away from crime thrillers for a while because I found that I was often left disappointed but OOOOH this scratched the itch for me. This may have just gotten me back into thrillers!

A Crime Thriller that is riveting, clever and fresh.

Recently, I had the pleasure of reading the debut crime thriller by author Myriah Saulnier, and what a delight it was. Killer in the Mirror marks her debut novel, and to say she exceeded expectations would be an understatement. This crime thriller is riveting, clever, and fresh—a perfect blend of inventive plot, a strong and captivating protagonist with a disability, uncommon in the genre, and superb prose.

Saulnier weaves a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, making you forget about cooking dinner and opt for delivery instead, just so you can keep turning the pages. It's clear that this novel was years in the making, evident in its meticulous construction and depth. It's a standout piece in Canadian crime fiction, offering a refreshing take that leaves a lasting impression.

Myriah is a local author and we selected this book for our Millennial Book Club for the month of April.

Instantly when I picked this book up I was hooked. I didn't want to put the book down. I really enjoyed the differently characters and also really disliked a few. The book kept me guessing right until the end.

We were lucky enough to have Myriah join us at our book club for discussion about Killer in the Mirror and also about her journey with self publishing. She was so kind and intelligent! It was great to learn about her writing process and self publishing journey and what she has coming next!

I can't wait to read what Myriah puts out next and I highly suggesting purchasing a copy of Killer in the Mirror

This book was a surprising detour from my usual reading choices thanks to a lovely friend but it quickly hooked me. The story is dark, with vivid and, at times, grotesque descriptions that are both disturbing and captivating. The characters are likable yet deeply flawed, which adds a human touch to the relentless pace of the action. I found the book entertaining and hard to put down. If you're looking for a suspenseful read with a bit of grit, this one won't disappoint!

Hooked by the synopsis alone! So excited to read this thriller by an amazing strong female voice🙌🏿

UPDATE: book completed ✅
My favourite part was how beautifully written it is! The moments were many, where I had to pause and savour a line that hit the spot. In hindsight, enthralled as I was, I should have made more of an effort to earmark them, because a) I need them for my Quotes Book, and b) I now struggle to find them for this review! A re-read is in order.
I’m impressed by how vivid and alive all the characters and locations felt. I honestly couldn’t wait till I had a quiet moment to pick the book back up. Praise for an amazing debut novel!
