Lindsey Cormack's book, How to Raise a Citizen (And Why It's Up to You to Do It), speaks directly to an America in which civic knowledge is alarmingly sparse and many people dread politics. It's a tool for parents, educators, and anyone eager to fill this gap. In the book, Cormack offers an engaging and practical approach to discussing political issues and the inner workings of the U.S. government with children. Lindsey Cormack's book, "How to Raise a Citizen and Why It's Up to You to Do It" covers all the bases in explaining how and why our current generation of young people is woefully unprepared to assume the responsibilities of citizenship.

The book then provides conscientious parents with a well-organized outline of the knowledge they must impart to their kids and how they should go about it.

I was fortunate enough to have attended a quality 1960's high school in which the lessons of citizenship were imparted to us in the normal course of studying American History. For various reasons explained in the book, those lessons have vanished from our high schools.

The timing of this book could not be better because today's youth will likely encounter citizenship problems, we and our parents could not have imagined. This book will likely be a roadmap back to the kind of orderly nation the Founding Fathers envisioned.

It's a guidebook for parents in how to have political conversations with your kids to help them become informed and engaged citizens. The premise is that civics is best taught in the home because schools can be unreliable with their civics curriculum. The book is also a primer in how the government works and what the Constitution says, so parents can have basic political knowledge to share with their kids. I would have rated this 4 stars but there were a lot of grammatical errors that could have been corrected by another round editing and proofreading. I really appreciate the purpose of this book and its message, however it just needed more proofreading to correct simple mistakes.

This is really more of a basic primer on the constitution and the basics of American government and politics than it is a parenting guide, but it is a solid example of the former. It is good place to start and explores the nuance of federalism, while emphasizing the importance of state and local government, which I appreciate.

Audio.
This is a basic guide to how to engage your kids with topics around civics and our rights and responsibilities as citizens. A good portion of the book is civics and politics basics about the structures that support our government. It was helpful to me because I haven’t revisited some of this info since high school civics class.

This book is a little about how to raise a citizen and a lot about a civics refresher course for the reader that sometimes reads like a text book. Very informative.
