Upon reconnecting with his childhood friend Juliette, Laurence uncovered a startling they were fated mates. Yet, Laurence recoiled from the idea, rejecting the notion of preordained love. But a greater challenge loomed over them. A restless spirit cried out for justice. Could Juliette and Laurence unlock the truth behind the murder? Could writing the ghost’s tale be the key to freeing it? And what about Laurence and Juliette’s destiny? Could he create his fate, or would this adventure draw him closer to Juliette than he anticipated?
This is part of an interconnecting series – the same world but different characters and storyline. So you can read this series in any order.
I'm an Aussie stay-at-home Mum with two young boys. I've always had a love for reading and writing. It wasn't until I reached my late 30's however, that I realised I wanted to take writing seriously and published my first book in 2021. I am excited to share my love for the paranormal and the romance entwined within with everyone.
I loved this book. It has some twists and turns that had me thinking all the way through. But l kept reading because the book had so much more. Fated mates? Star-crossed lovers? Friends to lovers? Twist upon twist. The author brought two childhood friends together to solve a mystery, which soon became a murder, but they would not have known except for the ghost. The two have differing expectations of how they should be dealing with each other until Laurence finally surrenders to his feelings and begins a romance with Juliette that brings them together. There are other interesting characters involved who add depth to the story and make it possible for Laurence to write a successful ghost story. The book has a great plot, and it is part of a series, so you will find that reading this book will have you reading the complete series.
This is an unusual take on a friends to lovers shifter romance. It combines friends to lovers, slow burn, an unsolved mystery, a ghost story and a shifter romance wrapped around an indie writer's pov. I loved this writer's obvious passion for her work and her love of other indie writer's shows through. I loved Laurence and Juliette's story. All of Julie Cannings stories are always worth the read and as Laurence states quite often in the book a review! No more spoilers, read the book!
I’m always quick to grab Julie’s new books as they come out. Look at how gorgeous that cover is? This has best friends lost but reunited. Ghosts. Was she murdered or not? Love the indie author references. It takes time for these two to figure their stuff out. The mystery intertwined helps slap these two in the face so they can truly see what’s right in front of them. Friends make the best lovers.
I started this book months ago and got pulled away because of life, but I'm so happy I could finish it. Friends to Lovers is my absolute favorite type of book to read. The author did a fantastic job pulling you into this story from page one. The characters are relatable, and she had you wondering why he was forced to leave so suddenly at the beginning. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal.
Laurence is a bat shifter, Juliette an owl shifter, and they are kids in chapter 1, best friends who are then separated through circumstances. Don't worry though, chapter 2 is 14 years later. Unrequited love after finally reuniting, one has saved themselves for the other but the unrequited love of the in love partner is not for the usual reasons.
A well written novel with references to a few authors that I have read and enjoyed.
This was a smashing good read. The characters of Juliette and Laurence are well crafted and finely developed. The plot was spellbinding and kept me on the edge of my seat. Recommended.
Diving into this paranormal romance was an unexpected delight! Although it’s not my usual genre, I’m thrilled I gave it a chance. The characters were wonderfully quirky and brought a lot of charm to the story. The plot itself was both captivating and engaging, making it a truly enjoyable read.
What an interesting story! You get two romances in one while the main pair work through a murder mystery ghost story to avoid working on their own relationship. Loved the indie author shout outs/name drops. Thanks for another lovely story, Mrs. Cannings
I picked these up out of order, but this is a stand-alone so I fell right into the multiple shifter world. I loved it! Book 1 is on my short list now! Bats, Crocs, Dingos, Owls! Is everyone in aussie a shifter? Maybe that would explain a lot right? I loved getting to learn about how these bat shifters live. The underlying plot was amazing. Ghosts, shifters, a struggling indie author. Relatable and loveable characters. But holy everything did I want to slap him, like don't be an IDIOT!!! You love her!
I loved the shout outs to other indie romance writers. I picked up a few new ones thanks to this novel.
I haven't read an Aussie written book in I don't know how long. But this was a great book, really well written. The book flowed really well. It even brought back my own memories of the rides at wonderland. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
I love friends to lovers stories! Juliette and Laurence’s story is amazing. Childhood friends find each other again. I liked that she was a cop and he was the writer. Usually those roles are reversed. I really like that Laurence is a bat shifter and not a vampire. I’m so glad he overcame the battle with his emotions. He has me worried for a bit. This is a really good series so far. Can’t wait for the next one
